Hello there.  While I’m nursing my bum knee I thought I’d share some pictures I have in my camera.  I’m usually busy posting cards but I keep a list of Becca Bits that I want to publish and many of them are in progress.   This is one that has been asked about frequently and now I’ve finished it up so I can tick it off my list.

My Spellbinders are one of my most used tools and I have a hefty investment in them so I want to make sure they get their use.  My Spellbinders storage probably looks like your Spellbinders storage, the fat CD cases make for perfect storage!   But, I found that after I color coded mine – I had a solution that really, really worked for me and it has saved me time and frustration.  When I’m in the middle of creating, my desk becomes a mess and I could never seem to put my hands on the dies I needed – now they each have a place.

I group my dies in categories – Standard Shapes, Pendants, Labels, Flowers, Nested Shapes, etc.  All of my circles are all stored together and at the top of the label I left a place for two colors – the first color is the same for all circles – the second color changes depending on if it is a smooth circle or a scalloped circle.  All of my scallop shapes have a lime green label so that I can find them.   If you ever decide to color code yours, tailor the colors to what works best for you.  Below you can see some of the items I used and the pictures are clickable if you want to see a larger version.

I keep my storage within an arms reach of where I sit because I access them frequently.  Here I’ve stacked up CD holders that I purchased at Target.
I also store my Borderabilities and long dies within an arms reach.
Here you can see the color coding a little bit better.
I simply make an excel spreadsheet, drop in the colors and cut the grid out so that it can be applied to the  spine of the CD.   These are ready to apply.

The spreadsheet is printed on an inkjet printer on Full Sheet Avery Labels (8165) before being cut out.  This is what I started out with.

For the longer nested dies I use CD Cases – I covered them in another post HERE.
I simply apply my spine label to the front of the CD Case.

I store my 6″ borders in a magnetic album.

This one was picked up in the scrapbooking section at Hobby Lobby.

I hope this helps those of you who wanted to know :-)  Don’t forget I have current blog candy that you can read about and comment to HERE.

As I keep adding to them I will have to take your ideas and put them to work for me.

I don’t have a lot of nesties…..yet(:-) but…….. also wanted to let you know that a store I truly love is Trader Joe’s. Whole Foods is way too over whelming and pricey for me. However if you live in an area with a Whole Foods and are looking for a special fish or seafood, check them out. My husband had to revive me after my first and only visit. Whew!ReplyCancel

I store a lot of things in CD cases, including unmounted stamps, but my
Nestabilities are in a drawer. Now they are coming out. I had forgotten about color coding. I used that in the 1950s-60s to identify Xray films when I worked at a large hospital. In fact, I set up the system for it. And don’t know why I haven’t thought of that before. thanks for the idea.ReplyCancel

I also store my Nestabilities (I have the grand total of 4. lol), as well as clear stamps, in the CD cases, but I never thought in a million years to use the color-coding system or even just the labelling system you have. That is simply awesome!!!! Thanks sooooooo much for sharing!ReplyCancel

  • Val WApril 7, 2010 - 8:14 pm

Wowsa! That’s quite a collection! I can see how the CD cases would be the most efficient for you. The color-coding really looks like it’s a good idea for you to keep track of what you have, and where. My collection of Spellbinders is small by comparison but growing, thanks in part to all the wonderful die cut inspiration I see on your blog. So far, my zippered CD album is working well for me. Each set of dies is mounted on a magnetic sheet, and slipped into one of the CD pockets. Thanks for sharing your Becca Bits with us.ReplyCancel

  • MarshaApril 7, 2010 - 8:41 pm

This is weird because I had just been looking/searching for some of my dies, I knew I had them but couldn’t find the set I needed…..and then they are all jumbled up in a drawer……by themselves, but still loose in a drawer. This is perfect……thanks so much.
BTW, I love your blog and your work is such an inspiration.ReplyCancel

With regard to storing copics, I bought some clear Iris plastic containers at Michaels. They are apparently made for photographs but each box holds 16 copics perfectly. I made a list of the color with a sample of the color that goes in each box with the copics. What is great is the containers are completely clear to easily identify the colors and the containers lock securely. These containers have come in handy for storing several other things also. At my age, if I can’t see something, I forget I have it.ReplyCancel

I thought since I filled my little plastic storage bucket with CD cases full of Spellbinders dies, that I had to quit buying them….NAAAHHHH. I was so excited that while on a recent weekend trip, the scrapbook store in that area had the crosses, the curvy rectangles and the new oval dies (#10?). Anyway, I loved getting them and not paying shipping AND supporting an LSS…(they have been dropping like flies in this economy.)

NOW. To locate a retail store carrying those big CD cases….hmmmm…

Wow I am so jealous of your collection! I too have mine stored in CD cases and the colour coding is such a really good idea. I think I will have to pinch that idea too! I live in the UK and so far it is really slow getting hold of the new ones but they are slowly filtering through. I hope your knee gets better soon. I know that feeling well. I have needed a new knee cap since I was 19 and was told to wait until I was 45. At 45 they discovered I needed a total knee replacement and last month I got the news that I had been waiting for – the operation is to go ahead in the next 12/18 weeks and I am so thrilled at the thought of being pain free for the first time in over 30 years! So take it easy and keep the samples coming even if you do give me headaches trying to find some of the things you use over here!ReplyCancel

    I have one question??
How do you store the Grand 12″ Borderabilities?? Do you have a easy solution for that, (I hope so) I have a few but there so hard to store I’m afraid I may not get anymore because they may get damaged.

Hi has anyone used the little cd boxes with the hanging files for cds. I am unable to leave my home to shop much so I sent my husband looking for a spellbinder storage solution and he brought back a file box that is only 5in. x 5in. each holds 80 cd’s so far I have two boxes. I also can color code because the little hanging files are in four colors. I use one color for nestabilities one for shapeabilities etc. and each has a wonderful file lable at the top so it is easy for me to find as long as I keep it in the file box it came from with the color it came from I don’t even need to put it back in the exact right spot every time. I love them. they take up so little room and they hold so much each box gets heavy with eighty sets of spellbinders so have only put 40 to sixty sets in each box. I also use the thin magnet paper to keep them in place. My five year old granddaughter can access the ones she wants easily and can see them without having to open anything . I love these. joannaReplyCancel

I hope that you and your families are spending time together and celebrating the reasons that make today this holy day so important.  I have a full day with family and church but set up a post for Easter Day with a little card to share.  It’s sweet little Tilda sitting on top of an Easter basket.  Every month one of the designers with Magnolia-licious issues a challenge and this month our challenge was a sketch you can see HERE.  I flipped the sketch over so that I would have a valance on top from which to hang #441 Flower Basket.  The basket is large enough that I could seat #3049 Tilda with Flower in Her Hair.  I’ll give you a little hint though – Tilda’s head would have hidden that beautiful bow on the basket so I clipped it and moved it up.  Instead of fussing with cutting out the flowers on the stamp I simply cut them off and layered on my own flowers.   For the valance I used an EK Success Border Punch and for the tag I used Spellbinders™ Tags Five

The sketch challenge is open until the end of the month and I hope you’ll play along – you can see the other Design Team Cards on the Magnolia-licious Highlights Blog as well as details for the monthly challenge.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Magnolia-licious – #441 Flower Basket, #3049 Tila with Flower in Her Hair
Paper:  Magnolia Easter Paper, My Mind’s Eye – Penny Lane, Coredinations, 140lb Strathmore Watercolor Paper
Ink:  Memento – Tuxedo Black
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Tags Five, EK Success Border Punch, Buttons, Ribbon, Prima Flowers

Have a blessed holiday, friends!!

Well, all I can say is ……
“Count me into the Becca fan club”!! I just now ran across you and I truly have to say I fell like I’ve hit the “Bonanza Gold”…..here in California…… Again!! You just blow me away with your talent Miss Becca!! I thank the good Lord for giving you not only the talent but, the desire to “share” with the rest of us who truly need your inspiration. I am new to card making though I have done considerable scrapbooking in the past. Now I find I want all those nifty tools you use to get your results. I feel like a kid in a candy store Becca…….I want one of these and one of those etc. etc.!! :) So much fun! Your card making is on my mind a lot I guess cause as I drove to work yesterday I saw a sign over an antique shop and immediately said to myself……..”I know that shape, Becca used it on a card I saw yesterday”. Yes, I’ve got it bad I’m afraid……… Anyway….a BIG Thank You for all your help, and as I sit often alone at work in an old historic haunted hotel in the California mountains at night……..I have your beautiful art work to keep me inspired and excited to get home and try some of them out!

Oh my gosh, love love LOVE this card! Such sweet colors and papers and FANTASTIC coloring. You make me love Mags a whole lot more than I used to!ReplyCancel

Some time ago I asked what kinds of card you wanted to see me attempt.  Overwhelmingly the answer came back to see more masculine cards.  Well I honestly ran and hid because I did not know where to start.  It is said that one often meets their destiny in the road they take to avoid it.  There’s no doubt that I was avoiding making masculine cards until Our Daily Bread Designs revealed their April Releases.  There are two sets that deal with men, mens birthdays and Father’s Day called Dad and Happy Father’s Day.   I think I had myself convinced that a man card could not have a bow  . . . I changed my mind.   If man can wear a tie or a bow tie – I’m gonna put a bow on his card :-)  That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

I know this is an unconventional card – that’s just where my muse went today.  I created a background using three Spellbinders™ Mega Ovals LG and matted them using Spellbinders™ Jumbo Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite.  For embellishment I used my favorite Spellbinders leaves, Spellbinders™ On the Vine Border Grand.  I took my design to the inside this time . . .

On the inside I fashioned a tag using Spellbinders™ Ribbon Tags Trio Two and added scallops to the bottom.  The K & Co paper I selected is rich and earthy and to me, suited to a man, even though it has flowers.  I can’t wait to get more "men" cards in the works.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs: Dad
Paper:  Bazzill, K & Company
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black and clear embossing powder
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Mega Ovals LG , Spellbinders™ Jumbo Scalloped Borderabilities® Petite, Spellbinders™ On the Vine Border Grand Spellbinders™ Ribbon Tags Trio Two, Ribbon, Prima Flower , MM Brads

Have a blessed day friends!

Becca – After reading the inside quote, I thought it applied to you today as well…lol! God knew this stamp and paper were being made some time ago, and He knew your talent would follow the steps he had planned for you for this. And, since every man has “some” feminine side to him even if he won’t admit it, the bow adds to this card in just the right way. Keep up the good work now that you’ve gotten over your stage fright. Terrific job as ALWAYS!ReplyCancel

To take the bow away is just cruel and unusual punishment! Thats your trademark Becca!!! If you are afraid of bows on masculine cards, try using a thinner ribbon. Thats what I do for my masculine cards. I was challenged to make a birthday card for a co-worker, male of course, and I knew his favorite color was red, no problem but I do everything girly, duh! I searched my stash, and came across a Paper Studio stack in 8 by 8. Perfect! I thumbed through and found a black and white argyle pattern. I used that as my mat punched butterflies out with my ms butterfly punch in plain black card stock and embossed them with irridesent embossing power. I doodled a flight path and glued the butterflies on and added a thinner red ribbon on top for a pop of color! He absolutely loved it!!! It was definitely a challenge because I knew only that he liked red. Well, I’m off the make hubby a birthday card for tomorrow. He loves ice cream and cheese cake, HUMMM!ReplyCancel

Those are wonderful cards for a man. In fact they are the best male cards I have seen! These cards just prove your “magic fingers” can do great male cards too. Most designers have some great cards , and some bland looking cards , but ALL of your cards are great. In the year I have been visiting your blog I can’t recall one bland looking card that you have made. Not one! You are AmazingReplyCancel

Most of the older men in my family are into their gardening and this kind of card would work well for that kind of man as it does have floral paper but all of the colour scheme is very…like you say – earthy.
