You still have until Friday night at Midnight to enter for the blog candy.  Read about the rules and enter HERE.

I’m using one of the new sets from Our Daily Bread Designs called Nest.  The sentiments are wonderful and cover so many occasions, so I’ve made a card that can be used as housewarming, welcome to the neighborhood or just a gift.  In order to get the sentiment to fit on the tag I created, I used my Stampamajig to split the sentiment in half – ya gotta love that tool!!   I was intrigued by the shape made when crossing two Spellbinders™ Labels Four and used it as a mat for my oval medallion using Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals SM and Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals LG.

From my stash I had a piece of lace that is actually raw on the edges and is probably used for insertion in heirloom sewing – it just seemed to add a little bit of interest to the underlying green ribbon.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – Nest
Paper:  Bazzill, Graphic 45 – Florentine, K&Co. – Lifes’ Journey
Ink:  Versafine – Sepia
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Labels Four, Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals SM, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals LG, Copic Markers, Pearls, Ribbon

Thanks for stopping by today.  Mwah!

Hi Becca, Hope you and your family are doing better. I’m still praying for ya too. You’re card is beautiful. Your coloring is beyond compare. I study your work and try to use your technique when I color. (I didn’t say I achieve it, but I try.) What a nice gift this card would be, for someone to get when they move into your neighborhood. As for the “B” list……..My husband lived in Idaho when he was a young man. He traveled all over the west and from Canada to Texas. He loved it. He’s talked so much about it that I have wanted to go there too. Well, you know with work and getting a start in life, building a home, having children (5), we didn’t have the time or money to go. Now the kids are out of college and out of the house, so now’s the time, right? Hopefully if life doesn’t get in the way, my Sweetie and I will get there. That’s the Plan! Thanks for letting me try to win your fun candy. I would sooo love to win! Blessings! Patty W.ReplyCancel

So charming Becca!! I LOVE that nest image and you colored it beautifully!!ReplyCancel

  • Lynne PhelpsFebruary 12, 2010 - 10:37 am

You are right – the “ribbon” is called entredeux (between two) and it is used as insertion between two pieces of fabric – usually a fine cotton batiste! With the opening being so wide, this probably would have been used as beading with a fine satin ribbon woven in and out through the bars – maybe you can try that technique with your entredeux on another card! I used to do lots of French heirloom sewing by hand and machine when my darling neices were young, I sure miss all the special requests for American Girl doll clothes! Now they are in college – I’ll have to hope for lots of grands!

Your card is exquisite, I have Label 4 and I am in love with how they look crossed! Brilliant, as always!ReplyCancel

  • Linda StandartFebruary 13, 2010 - 8:24 am

It’s a beautiful card and a wonderfully creative use of the ribbon insertion strip. Incidentally, that’s what it is. Not lace. And you were right in your guess concerning one of its uses. It was a common element in Ladies ‘intimate garments’ in times before elastic. Ribbon was threaded through, gathered and tied in a knot or bow. So it was both functional and decorative. Today it’s usually just a decorative element.ReplyCancel

You still have until Friday night at Midnight to enter for the blog candy.  You can read about the rules and enter HERE.   I’m thoroughly enjoying reading your b-list items — I hope you read some of the others too!!

The Magnolia-licious Design Team has a challenge to do each month and this month Diana challenged us to do a Wiper Card!  I’ve never done one before and it was kinda neat.  For my card I used the sweet little Dinner Tilda with Valentine Papers from K&Co.  The stand up part of the wiper says "Be Mine"  Also since I’m in the flower making mood, I found a super tutorial over at Crafts by Rach that shows how to make these flowers.  I’ve had a bottle of Glimmer Mist forever and I never seem to reach for it.  Well this little flower and Glimmer Mist thing might get addicting *wink*.

Not as much as in real life, but you can see a hint of the sparkle :-)  Pop over to the Magnolia Highlites Blog to see that cards made by the other Design Team members.  If you want to try your hand at it you can make your own wiper card and upload it to the Magnolia Highlights Blog by February 28th in order to be in the running for a prize.   The details are HERE.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Magnolia Stamps through Magnolia-licious, #388 Dinner Tilda
Paper:  K &Co – Lovely, Bazzill
Ink:  Memento Black Tuxedo
Accessories:  Copic Markers, Twine, Ribbon, Buttons, Pearls, EK Success Paper Shaper – Retro Flower Large, EK Success Paper Shaper – Retro Flower Small, Martha Stewart Leaf Punch, EK Success Round Punch, Martha Stewart Heart Punch, Martha Stewart Heart Border Punch

I must say that it’s taking me a little bit longer than I thought to produce the video for the Woven Lattice Background.  I put a lot of hours into it yesterday but the tutorial length is too long and and frame is simply not that hard, just lots of steps.  I’ll continue to work on it and just so you know I can just about do that weaving with my eyes closed now. It’s coming soon, I pinky promise :-)

Another item on my ‘bucket list’ is to travel to and visit the town where I was born. My father was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina during WWII and I was born there in 1945; after the war we moved to my parent’s home town in Ohio and that’s where I lived until I met my husband and moved to Indiana. I’ve never been back to Charleston and now’s the time to do that.

My bucket list is very long, but I think I’ll start with letting you know that I’ve been a stay at home mom for a very long time, with only one income I didn’t allow myself a whole lot of fun stuff, but now that my husband is retired and our home is finally paid off, I’m taking classes from anyone, that interests me and the # 1 on the bucket list was to go to a painters convention, I did it last April, and have thought, well that wasn’t so bad, I can do it again, so I’m off to Virginia this year to Art and Soul. can’t wait. Love your card, and anxiously awaiting your tutorial.ReplyCancel

Girl, are you good! For the B-list, In my family over the last several months, several close elderly relatives have lost their spouses. I plan to be very busy visiting them. taking goodies to them, calling them, running errands for them, etc. You know, just helping to fill their time and hopefully ease their loneliness a little. Since I missed one day, I would add an bucket list wish that my husband and I are able to find jobs this year. (Ditto on the last poster’s comment)

I was excited to cross off another B-List item!!! I was able to help out a neighbor…We live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and we are currently experiencing the Largest snow fall we have ever seen!!! Our schools closed on Thursday and no school on Friday. Due to the snow and ice and freezing temp. a lot of us are not able to leave our driveways due to the ice. For some reason (I park in my garage) I was able to leave my driveway and pick up the kiddos from school. Most of my neighbors were not. So I was “bus driver” driving back and forward picking up kids from school and taking them home…since their parents were not able to drive.

Last week I was playing around with crepe paper and managed to make some of my own flowers.  I liked them enough that I went out a bought a couple more colors of crepe paper and swooned over the pink.  So here is a pink card from me (surprise!).  I used one of the new Flourishes sets called Lace Edges that features this exquisite lace!  For the sentiment I used Flourishes I Love Roses set.   I layered Spellbindersâ„¢ Labels Five on the top of the card, Spellbindersâ„¢ Grand 12″ Lace Border in the middle and Spellbindersâ„¢ Labels Four on the bottom. I finished by attaching two leaves from the Spellbindersâ„¢ Sunflower Set Two Set.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Flourishes Lace Edges, Flourishes I Love Roses
Paper:  K&Co.Lovely, The Paper Company – Blonde Columns, Bazzill
Ink:  Colorbox Chalk Ink – Pastel Pink
Accessories:  Spellbindersâ„¢ Labels Five, Spellbindersâ„¢ Labels Four, Spellbindersâ„¢ Sunflower Set Two,  Spellbindersâ„¢ Grand 12″ Lace Border, Pearls, Ribbon

Here is the video tutorial in case you’d like to make your own flowers:

Thanks for stopping in to see me, I’m still gathering blog candy and hope to have it posted by tomorrow.

    Hi Becca –

Wonderful tutorial! We must be on the same wavelength. I was out at the store on Saturday and picked up a roll of pink crepe paper. I had no idea what I was going to do with it, but it just looked so pretty. Subconsciously I must and been channeling you – LOL!

Your crepe paper flower is so cute. I have some black and gold crepe paper yet in the cupboard from our girls’ high school graduation. I’m going to have to give this a try. Oh wouldn’t black crepe paper flowers be great on an “over the hill” type card? Like you said, the possibilities are endless! Thanks for sharing this fun little flower.ReplyCancel

Wow! Thank you for sharing the crepe paper flower tutorial with me/us. Tomorrow, I am going to ask my mom how to stitch a long stitch by hand. If I keep finding awesome tutorials like this one, I am going to have to get a sewing machine!

    Thanks so much!
