Hi there blog friends!  I didn’t tell you this yesterday, but the orthopedic surgeon I saw yesterday is saying not to do foot surgery – er . . .yet.  He would rather exhaust every tool than cut – sigh!!!  I’ve gone A-Z with a podiatrist so now A-Z with the ortho.  I had to take a while to digest that info yesterday and try to figure out why I seemed so disappointed and today I’ve put it into perspective.  I figured out it’s taken me so long to step up and address this health issue that I was truely “ready” and now it’s more wait.  I know I’ll find my way!  In the meantime, I got busy today but am heading to the studio to create – in the meantime here are the winners of the Prima paper!

    Sorry to hear about your foot issue, Becca. I have my own issue with stress fracture that would not heal after months in an air cast. Then MRI was done and they say I have a hammer toe. Seriously? How did I get that and why didn’t I know I had it? Over $3,000 for an MRI AFTER being in a stupid air cast for that length of time. Now being sent to ortho foot clinic. What a drag.     Becca, what a bummer after finally psyching yourself up for surgery to be told to wait. I know you’d just like to get it over with and put it all behind you. Not being cut on is not necessarily a bad thing if the surgeon has a plan for relieving the pain. Hang in there.ReplyCancel

    Becca, I understand your disappointment about the surgery, but I think your doctor is wise…surgery on the foot is one of the most complex and not always with good results. I struggled with foot pain for a year, but after six months of trying things other than surgery, I am now free of pain most of the time.     Praying for you Becca…I had surgery (3 procedures at once) on my left foot over 10 years ago…was told I needed it on both feet, but Dr. refused to do both at once…never did the other foot. Truthfully, I can’t see it helped at all but was painful after surgery and a long recovery. Have finally found shoes that help me get thru the day without throbbing feet – MBT is the brand and sandles with adjustable straps work best for me. They are expensive, but worth it since I can stay on my feet all day!!! If you try a pair on and think they will work for you, check on-line with Herrington’s (big discounts).

    Hello Becca, If I was in your place, I would have felt disappointed because if, when you get surgery then you can move on. Till then its probably still a wait and see game.     Hi Becca,
    I am so sorry to hear that things are not going the way you thought they would, but please don’t see this as a negative, it could mean the doctor is trying to save you further problems later on in life.
    I had spinal surgery and a bone graft after a serious car accident in 2000. When the problem was diagnosed and the surgeon told me of the immediate need for surgery, my first reaction was ‘have you got to operate’, what he went on to tell me and I have also learned for myself over the years may help you my friend. He said operating can cause complications at the time, as i am sure you are aware, but also problems later on. Your doctor may be worried about scar tissue, that forms as part of the healing process and also arthritis, this often can occur where bones are concerned. I, myself, am now left with horrid pain thoughout the winter in and around the site of my surgery and also where the bone graft was taken. I also have scar tissue that is pressing into the spine and causes me severe aching and shooting pains. Now, I don’t know exactly what you were having done, I am probably way off mark, but the reason I wanted to explain was for you to see that surgery isn’t always the answer and that is why doctors will often take their time. I had to have it or I would have eventually lost the use of my right side all together, so problems now were inevitable but he made the right decision.
    I believe you have a good doctor there because he sounds like he has your long term well being at the forefront of his mind and is weigh up the pros and cons of surgery. Whatever he decides my sweet, I pray it will bring you not only short term relief but long term improvement.
    Please take care of yourself, throw yourself into crafting even more (if that is possible) and do all the things that keep you busy so you have little time to focus on the waiting.

    I did the same thing, Becca! I was all psyched p to have my neuromas removed but I found a podiatrist that I swear is God’s gift to feet! In three sessions he has me walking without pain and he says he can maintain me this way for only a couple of visits per year! Now if only my knees and hips didn’t complain so much about walking……still – I am walking instead of riding a scooter to do my grocery shopping! I am blessed!ReplyCancel

    To have worked yourself up to finally face an issue and then be told to ‘wait’ is hard! But, I have also heard that foot surgery is one of the most painful ordeals to go through. So I will pray that the ortho doc will find the winning combination that will you give you relief without the knife.

    I know what you feel like..It took me months to finally go to the doctor and find out I needed a hip replacement.. It was getting so painful to walk.
    I had to wait about 3 months for it to take place but it gave me time to prepare and to maybe lose some weight and store blood for the surgery.
    Emotionally it gives you time. You’ve made the first decision and that’s always the hardest..Now your facing it and ready for what ever.
    Take the time to prepare. Like all surgeries it takes time to recover and you’ll need help at first..
    Good luck to you and keep doing your beautiful cards.. I miss the Becca Bits. I learned so much quickly. Thank you for all your kind sharing and showing us how too…I am a visual person so those tutorials showing how to do it were fantastic..
    Another note..I just had my knee replaced too and it’s coming along..I use a can now..it’s like having a third leg and helps with the balance..

    Ah, yes, sometimes you just want to get it over with…I totally understand. But after 7 surgeries in the last 10 years, I’ll go to great lengths to avoid them now. The last two years have been surgery free, perhaps being over 50 has some great benefits after all! LOL! I know you need to have a solution soon and I’ll be praying for that for you, Becca.     You might be disappointed but really foot surgery should be an absolute final destination. My mother had foot surgery and said it was the most painful thing she ever went through. Needless to say, she did not have her other foot done. My own experience has been that everytime I have surgery the problem may be fixed but something else goes wrong which makes it worthless to have it done. I’ll refuse anymore surgeries unless I’m near dead or it’s decided for me! I pray you find another solution. I find at 60 years of age, pain is pretty much inevitable and I try to ignore it as much as I can and rest when I can’t.ReplyCancel

    Sounds like you have a good doctor…not so quick to resort to the knife. Ortho pain can sometimes be intolerable, and surgery becomes necessary, but even then, we are not quaranteed to be left pain free. Understanding the frustration with the waiting is quite normal. Being a christian lady, you know God doesn’t send us crosses we can’t bear because He knows how heavy crosses can be. Trust that He has control of your situation and has set you on a wiser path. You will make the right decisions alongside a good doctor. Lots of prayers go with you.ReplyCancel

    Aw Becca I’m sorry for your disappointment regarding your surgery but hopefully this doctor can heal you without it, if not the option will still be there.
    I’ve read the previous posts and must say it brakes my heart to read some of these stories but I hope they don’t scare you away from surgery if and when you do need it. I am a retired surgical technician. I’ve learned over the years that different people have different levels of pain as a result of the same surgeries. Also a positive attitude and faith have a great influence on healing and pain levels. I had foot surgery myself, I have tiny wires, staples and screws in my foot. Although people say it is the most painful thing they have ever been thru I only needed pain pills for three days and some extra strength over the counter stuff for a while after that. We all know you are a very positive and strong person, you are also a woman of faith. Know that you are where God wants you and He will carry you thru this journey. You remain in my prayers.

    Congratulations to the winners here, I´m sure, you´ll get lots of fun with these gorgeous papers.
    And I don´t think, you should feel so sorry about the surgery being put on hold Becca, as they must have a good reason for doing it, and like more have already said here, it´s not always the best solution. I´ve had 4 major backsurgeries now, and now they can´t do anymore, and I have to live with constantly pains all the time and be on really heavy painkillers for the rest of my life, which is definitely NOT very nice either, and had I known this earlier, then I would never have let them do all this, but they kept telling me, it was the only solution, but now I know better, but it´s too late, so at least take the time to investigate more for other people, who have had this surgery and ask them about their expiriences first, that´ll be my advise. I was told, that they had always only had good results with these OP´s, but afterwards I´ve been in touch with many many people, and not one have gotten it any better, rather the opposit, but it was a new type of surgery, so the doctors wanted to do as many as possible to get some expirience, and it was the patients, who got to pay the price for that, so check it really well before doing anything will be my advise.

    Congratulations to both of the winners! Becca I feel the doctor gave you a blessing in disguise. A close friend of mine just had knee surgery on January 9th and will never ever have the other one done. She just came home yesterday from rehab as she encountered serious complications; and none her fault. It’s rough and be grateful that your doctor is not encouraging surgery and taking the conservative route.ReplyCancel

    I had a shot that was suppose to take care of the pain-Well it did for maybe a month then it returned in its full burning glory. Purely by accident I bought a pair of Crocs-real ones- and 6 yrs later- still surgery free-pain free. Granted I am not a fashion queen and I own prob 10 prs but I walk n ride my horse just fine. Turns out the thick rubber sole is my savior to my feet and just happens to fix the problem! & I assure you not one dr mentioned shoes as a poss fix for my problem.ReplyCancel

    Becca, I completely understand your let down after having prepared yourself for surgery and the remedy to fix the pain. It will take a while to redirect your expectations on the treatment your specialist has in store for you. Sounds like you are in good hands. Some doctors are a little premature in cutting before exhausting the other less invasive possiblities. I feel for you.     Wow Becca, that is the first time I have ever heard of an orthopedic surgeon suggest anything BUT surgery. Your problem must be one that can be fixed in another way or you’d be scheduled already.     Becca, What a disappointment to have the doctor make a different plan than what you thought was going to happen. I know what you are going thru. I had the same situation with my knees. It has been 2 years since I fell & injured my knees. I finally had surgery on my left knee & it has been very painfull. Now I am praying that God does something with my fight knee so that I don’t have to have surgery. I will be praying for you that the doctors do right by you & that the pain will ease up.

    Hi Becca….I had some toe surgery in the past and WOW was it hard to recover from!!!! Took me a full 1.5 years to get back to where I was. Mine was an election to get rid of some bone spurs, etc. mainly for cosmetic reasons, cause my toes looked bumpy. What a mistake! Be glad your Doctor is not rushing. Hi there blog friends, I know it’s an odd time, I had a card to share with you today and simply couldn’t get back home to hit publish, lol!!  That’ll teach me, I thought I’d only be gone an hour and one hour turned into most of the day.  At any rate, yesterday when I sat down, I wanted to make a complement to the pink card I recently made – something along the same clean lines that with the addition of an inside sentiment might be able to be used for a baby boy card.    


I picked a sentiment from Waltzingmouse Stamps from the Fancy Phrases set.


I’ve been dying to use Spellbinders™ Square Swatches — is that not just like scraps of fabic or the charms you buy at the quilt store?  On top of each scrap I mounted two layers of Spellbinders™ Layered Flowers using the tiny gingham for the inside layer of the flowers as well.   I used the fourth quadrant of my card for the sentiment and framed it with Spellbinders™ Standard Circles LG and Spellbinders™ Standard Circles SM.     Sigh, those flowers are so lacey – love them!!

    How are you doing today and how is the pain? I do hope you are able to cope as you await the surgery. Have you any ideas of a date for surgery yet, I pray they do not keep you waiting long.
    As to todays card well, it is as lots of my fellow followers have said ‘almost CAS’ It is CAS with a tad extra layers that all isn’t it…LOL!! It is after all a Clean card that is Simply devine and would easily be a baby boy card that any new mother would be so pleased to receive.

    Square swatches is one of the dies that I won on Day 6 of the Above and Beyond Frenzy contest. I can see using this die used just as you have, but I am wondering if there are other uses for it. Though this card doesn’t look like a “typical” Becca card, I appreciate very much changing things around, working with different styles, etc. For me, and sounding like others, it takes so much time to think up these beauties let alone the time to make them. Sometimes the time grabber is ink on the hand that smears on a beautiful sentiment that has to be redone. So, to see these pristine cards with no smudges, no little off center things and perfect bows, really, really impresses me, especially when you make so many. Sweet blog friends, Happy Monday to you!! I wanted to make something on the feminine side so I flipped through die templates laying on the table and came up with this combination. I mentioned that Spellbinders™ Romantic Rectangles was at the top of my list and was my starting point on this card. I added an element from Spellbinders™ Antique Frame, Accents, Spellbinders™ Damask Accents and Spellbinders™ Persian Accents. For the underlayer I used Spellbinders™ Classic Edges One paired with Spellbinders™ Classic Decorative Inserts Two and cut it up so that it would fit around the edges.

Hanging from the bow, I suspended a Happy Birthday sentiment from Our Daily Bread Design – Special Blend.
