Happy Monday sweet friends! Cool things going on today!! I have a new tutorial to share you with (by reader demand) and a bonus tip!! First of all, let me just say that sometimes I’m on autopilot – on my last card I mentioned using a Martha Stewart punch and it was actually an EKSuccess Large Edger Punch. I knew that and have no idea why I wrote it that way!! I’ve gone back to my original post and edited in the correct information and I have it correctly here too!! Thanks for tipping me off, you are the best readers evah!! My card today uses the same technique of punching 360 degrees around to create a border frame, corners filled, with a consistent margin all around. It’s a quick tutorial today, and I show you how to do this with any type of linear border punch!
Hey, by the way, did you notice my new button? It’s on the right side of my blog – all you have do is grab the html and throw it into your side bar. I also figured out that I had a bad link on my contact page that was trying to send you to the FAQ (frequently asked questions) but was sending you to an old version. I’ve corrected it. I hope you’ll take a second to look – you may even find the answer to your question there!! Thanks for stopping by today – I’ll see you soon!!
So cool!! Love this technique, it makes for an unusual background! Thanks for the tutorial!ReplyCancel

Thank you so very much for taking the time to develop these most informative tutorials. What you show is extremely clear & easy to follow; it was also great to have the specific sizes needed for the paper. I also appreciate that you ennunciate clearly and it’s easy to hear your voice. You don’t speak softly, but in a moderately maintained tone; the softness is a problem for someone who doesn’t hear well. Thanks again…and will be looking forward to seeing more when you have time. Blessings.ReplyCancel
Thank you for this tutorial! I have been trying to figure out how to do what you do but need to see it in action to follow through. Beautiful card shown today.ReplyCancel

Marcie SmithMarch 19, 2012 - 9:20 pm
Becca, thanks so much for the tutorial, and the info on your first card using this punch technique. I thought I was totally loosing it and spent some time searching for a Martha Stewart punch that didn’t exsit. I really liked the scrolled border best and thought it to be very feminine with Mother’s day right around the corner. Now I know where to look. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I also liked your info on making the larger cards. I prefer working with a larger base also. Seams easier to align medalions/bow/ and sentiment, and you don’t have to waste a 12 X 12 sheet of paper to accomplish it.
I also wanted to say that I am seeing your Becca Bow Maker croping up all of the place and am so happy for you. I love mine and have been using it alot. Works fantastic if anyone out there is reading this and hasn’t picked one up yet. Oh, and your card is gorgeous today as always!!!!
Hugs,

Oh how beautiful and Thank you for the tutorial. Now, if I can just do it.

Becca: Love the border filled frame but am having trouble doint it with both of the 2 punches I have. I have the “abstract flower chain” & the “argyle large edger.” They leave open borders unlike yours that go all around. What am I doing wrong? You mention a “linear” punch & I’m thinking that perhaps neither of my punches fit that description. Help!!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca,
Your card is beautiful and the border filled frame is a really nice change from Spellbinders all the time (I am a Spellbinder addict, just got to love those dies!). Thank you so much for the video tutorial, it really helped me get to grips with the concept, so much so I have already created my first border filled frames. My first attempt was using the Martha Stewart ‘Happy Birthday’ deep border punch. It looks beautiful and makes a lovely worded frame that is suitable for any age.
Have a good week Linda xReplyCancel

Amazing tutorial, Miss Amazing Becca. Thank you for showing us this little pearl. You are such a whiz with these punches! We spend a lot of money on those punches (even with our coupons!) and it is nice to have some things we can do with them other than the obvious. Many thanks to you!ReplyCancel

Becca, maybe you made the mistake on the name as the EK punches and the MS punches are made by the same company? There are so many beautiful ones, including the Spellbinder and now even some other companies are getting in on the Spellbinder wagon. Wish I could afford them all!ReplyCancel

HAD TO COME BACK!!!! Becca, have you seen the Stampin Up punch, Large Ribbon Border? They’re by EK Success too. That has the same little marks on the punch that you talk about. I tried what you said with this punch, although I think that punch in particular, won’t do what you said, only because it cuts off the design from the original piece of paper. BUT, can you think of ANY REASONS WHY this punch would have these SAME MARKINGS????? Just thought I’d throw this out to you, SINCE YOU ARE A PAPER CRAFTING GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!! :)ReplyCancel

Gorgeous and elegant card with the wonderful punched panel!! Thank you so much for sharing how you used the punch to create this terrific look and I will have to give it a try with some punches I own. I appreciate your video as it makes using the punch so clear and I love your tip for making the larger cards from a 8 1/2″ X 11″ piece of cardstock. Becca, I really enjoy and learn so much from your tutorials. I am a visual learner. would you think about maybe doing these special tutorials like they do on splitcoaststampers, so you can print the instructions with your pictures. that way one can read and see each step. this would be so helpful, then each time one needs them they would have instructions to follow. Not having a computer in my work space, I am not able to work an continue to watch at the same time. Please consider this option for all us visual learners.
thank you sooooo much. …. hugs and blessingsReplyCancel

I popped this layer up from the 5″ x 7″ base. I thenmatted my sentiment with a piece of cardstock and popped this layer up. of cardstock before I added my sentiment. I finished by tying a bow and adding paper roses and pearls as embellishment. That’s it – soooo easy!!

Becca,
What a wonderful card you share with us today. The sentiment is wonderful and I couldn’t help but think it just might have been on your mind as you took your little drive through the Older part of town as you mentioned in your blog recently. I grew up near your area I believe and oh I do miss the azaleas and dogwoods.(reminisced a little when I read your post) However, I realized , just this morning on my way to work as the sun was coming up over the thawing frozen lakes, and shining on the white birch trees, there is beauty everywhere if you open your eyes and heart to see His wondrous work. Thanks for reminding me.
I too absolutely am in awe of your beautiful card with its lovely sentiment. So many commenters have asked which MS punch you used, but I am the lucky owner of this punch and it’s not a MS…it’s EK Success Scroll Pattern Large
I am definitely going to give this a try as it’s simply stunningly gorgeous! Thanks for the inspiration, as always.ReplyCancel

Happy Friday friends!! Where did the week go? I hope you have some spiffy plans worked up for the weekend. I plan to work this weekend but hope to get out for a little drive around town since spring is blooming everywhere. I had errands yesterday that took me through an old part of town with well kept, quaint little 1940’s houses and it really had me yearning for simpler times. I got a little bit choked up as I imagined how proud the families were of these first little houses they bought and were able to call their own. I always try to look ahead but I almost feel like I was asleep when life slowly changed. I don’t ever see kids playing outside, is it my imagination? Well, that was certainly one of the joys of my childhood and flashbacks of the anticipation of seeing what was going on outside make me smile. Thankfully, there’s today . . . with beautiful azaleas in bloom, I may make the best of it and take a stroll instead of driving. I have a quick card to share today using one of the new Our Daily Bread Designs sets called Flourished Verses. I hope you’ll meet me back here tomorrow – it’s Our Daily Bread Designs 4th Anniversary – you’ll love the stamp I’ll be revealing then – it’s a quote I picked.
Today I’m letting the design paper do the heavy lifting for this card – it was a perfect choice to highlight the ovals I used. Keep in mind I build layers from the bottom up using foam tape so I’ll break this card down for you layer by layer. I started out with the design paper that is popped up on the card base 5″ x 8″. From another piece of design paper I cut out the oval motif and stamped my sentiment and popped it up directly over the matching oval on the design paper. On my next layer I popped up Spellbinders™ Floral Ovals, turned horizontally, that I made into a frame using Spellbinders™ Classic Ovals LG. On my next layer I popped up Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Five that I created as a frame using the next smaller size of Labels Twenty Five. For the upper layer I cut one of the smaller Florals Ovals as a frame using Classic Ovals LG and simply tucked the notches on the top of the oval into the Labels Twenty Five frame. It’s not a flat fit so the oval arcs and makes a beautiful landing spot for my spray of pearls – you can see that a little bit better below.
Wow!!! This is fabulous!!! Love the colors!ReplyCancel

Such quiet & cool elegance. Simply beautiful.
I think the reason you don’t see children playing outside, is: they have too many electronic toys, too much tv, and not enough discipline to be encouraged to go outside in the fresh air. Much easier to park them in front of the tv, instead of taking them outside to play something physical, as we used to do. (Red Rover, Hide & Seek, some kind of ball games, etc). It was a much simpler time, and I am sad that we have lost that. Also that people could trust in each other. We didn’t lock our doors in my little town. Can’t do that now, FER SURE.ReplyCancel
Beautiful design &color. Sad to hear your comment on the community but it is like that EVERYWHERE!! it would be great if they were outside drawing on the sidewalks with chalk like we used to do!

Not to fret, Becca, things have changed but some of the things that changed are us. There was a cartoon called “Pogo” (I think) when I was a kid and he was famous for having said, “We have met the enemy and they is us!” We just moved about 3 years ago to downsize from our big house when all our kids were grown and gone. This new neighborhood is mostly retired people (like my DH and me) living in smaller homes. All the kids are back in the old neighborhood with the big houses! I have a cute email about this very thing that I will send to you. You’ll enjoy it…ReplyCancel

Personally I wish we could turn back the clock and return to those simpler times, the era of Ozzie and Harriett, Leave it to Beaver and Happy Days. I guess that reveals my age. Like you Becca I love that look of the old quaint houses and small towns.
One of my favorite memories is playing hopscotch as a child on the sidewalk with the other neighborhood children. Or Jump Rope. Back in my day there were no cell phones, computers, only black and white tv with all the old classic tv shows that were a joy to watch. There are days I wish I could wiggle my nose and return to that non violent, happier era.
Love your card Becca. It’s so stunning, the verse is divine. Thanks for letting us drift back in time. It’s nice to be able to look back and reflect on happier days.ReplyCancel

Your cards are always a pleasure to see, and this one is no exception. I agree that there are no longer children outside enjoying themselves, playing chasey, bat and ball, riding their bikes. I live in South Australia, and when a child, my Mother used to say “off you go outside and come home for lunch”. It is a shame we can’t bring back those days. Somehow I feel it will never happen.
Thank you for your inspiration every day.ReplyCancel

THIS IS GORGEOUS Becca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE the light colors! AND the longer shape of the card! (sigh! I think spring is here & can see it in your card! :) ) No, you’re right!!!! Kids don’t play outside anymore & it’s because you have to WATCH THEM EVERY MINUTE now -a-days, with all the perversion in our society!!!!!!!! When it seems EVERY WHERE you look there are pediophiles! And kids are kept busy with buttons now! I TOO WISH we could go back in time to the Leave It To Beaver days! But, even if you TRY to create that life now, with your own family, OTHERS try to destroy it! “You’re too protective!” “They’ll be fine….(if you don’t protect them from danger)” At least that’s what we’ve been told! Everyone feels it’s THEIR RIGHT to put in their two cents on raising YOUR kids! It’s a WHOLE DIFFERENT WORLD we live in now!ReplyCancel

The colors are stunning! Gray with this beautiful green…who would have thought. I am amazed at how you put your layers together and have it all come out so well. Perhaps working so much with the dies helps, but it still takes a lot of fidgeting around to get them to work. I love how the die kinda leans out with the pearls floating. At first I thought they were resting on transparency film. I hope to try some kind of version of this card as I also like the oblong cards for some reason. I certainly hope its as lovely as yours.ReplyCancel

Such a lovely card. Great color combo. I, too, miss the sight and sounds of children at play outside–but in today’s dangerous world, it just doesn’t work. So sad— gone are days when we all looked out for everyone’s safety and welfare. Even schools aren’t safte anymore. Too much technology too fast. Consequently, too much danger. Simpler times were better times…but somehow the world manages to move on, and each generation manages to make its own way. Hope carries on!ReplyCancel

Gorgeous card, Becca! Yes, I too enjoyed leaving the house just after lunch and not returning until dinner time as all us kids head out on our bikes to the corner store and then the park to play…so sad kids can’t be kids much any more. Along with that, they are so overprotected in many ways, they have been unable to learn how to risk a bit. Thankfully we are in a nice area and they are able to walk to the corner store for a slushi or to the school to play now that they are older (10 plus).ReplyCancel

Those were the days, our neighborhood is like the others, few children play outside. We use to sit outside and watch the kids play and it was always amazing how many would just stop and talk, about their day. We listened and laughed. Wonder if parents spend time just talking and listening to them and not just the computer or tv? This generation needs our prayers for safety and understanding with much love. that will change their lives more than anything. … Becca, this is a beautiful card. love the size too. so glad you take the extra time to explain each step, and simply; on your videos as well.
thank you so much for sharing and blessing us. ………God Bless with hugs and blessings.ReplyCancel

A few months ago a family moved into a home I pass on my way home. There are five little ones who do the strangest thing, they actually play out doors. I see them every time I drive by. They made snowmen and had snowball fights when there was snow, more recently I’ve seen them, playing ball and hopscotch and yes one time two of them were fighting. It is such a delight to see them! So sad that they are the exception. Gosh when I was a kid if the sun was out so were we but then we didn‘t have a phone so we had to talk face to face and not even a TV to tempt us indoors.
Have a lovely weekend.

I love the cascade of pearls. The colors are so calming and beautiful.
You are right, children can’t play outside w/o adults now. 2 of our granddaughters live next door to us, and even though one is 7, we still walk her to her door. I miss the simpler times. Neighbors talked to one another, everything was at a slower pace and it wasn’t a “hurry up world” we live in now. Thanks for the reminder of yesteryear in word and in your beautiful creation

Your mention of those little 1940’s houses was very touching for me. My parents hand built their home in 1949, with the help of Dad’s brothers and some other members of the extended family. I remember the two oldest of my brothers and me carrying tools and some of the building materials, stiring paint and cleaning brushes….Various tasks suited to youngsters who wanted to help and needed to be kept out of th way.
My folks are gone now, but my ‘baby’ brother’s oldest son now owns the home and is proud of the heritage.
The card is beautiful. LOVE the subtle colours

Becca gorgeous card as always! How do you get the pearls to float like that without putting a piece of acetate behind them? If I tried that my pearls would end up falling into the frame and sticking to the sentiment! LOL!
As for the kids playing outside, mine do. I have four close in age, and live on a cul-de-sac. In fact, most of the kids on our street play outside regularly. I do know though that when my son goes down to the end of the street to ask his friends to play, he often comes back saying that they are not home because they are at some after school activity or another. Could that be it? Perhaps we keep our children too busy with other pursuits and organized sports and maybe that’s why we don’t see them playing outside anymore? I know we had baseball and football teams and things like that when I was a child, but it didn’t seem to have the frequency of practice and game playing that it does now. We also don’t seem to have the relationships with our neighbors that we did in the past, and that is really a shame.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca!!! Thank you for the very informative video – I will definitely give this technique a try :D
Blessings.
Thank you for this tutorial! I have been trying to figure out how to do what you do but need to see it in action to follow through. Beautiful card shown today.

Beautiful card and the punch frame tips on the video was great! Thanks for sharing it
Your cards are so ex quite. Thank you for the marvelous tutorial, too.
Hugs,
Marcie
You always give such great directions- and always are an inspiration
Fabulous technique, Becca!
Oh how beautiful and Thank you for the tutorial. Now, if I can just do it.
Where do all your fantastic ideas come from? Thank You, Thank You !
I love your videos, thank you so much for your great ideas
Becca: Love the border filled frame but am having trouble doint it with both of the 2 punches I have. I have the “abstract flower chain” & the “argyle large edger.” They leave open borders unlike yours that go all around. What am I doing wrong? You mention a “linear” punch & I’m thinking that perhaps neither of my punches fit that description. Help!!
Hi Becca,
Your card is beautiful and the border filled frame is a really nice change from Spellbinders all the time (I am a Spellbinder addict, just got to love those dies!).
Have a good week Linda x
Thanks so much for the tutorial, Becca! Loved the card and wondered how you managed to get the beautiful backing. That particular punch is new to me and I like it! But I’ll def. be trying your tutorial with some of the punches that I’ve got!
Thanks,
R/
Your card is gorgeous Becca, love how you did this with the border punch. Great tutorial too. :)
Thank you so much, Becca! I love learning new techniques, and you are just the most creative person! Your cards are always beautiful.
Amazing tutorial, Miss Amazing Becca. Thank you for showing us this little pearl. You are such a whiz with these punches! We spend a lot of money on those punches (even with our coupons!) and it is nice to have some things we can do with them other than the obvious. Many thanks to you!
Such an awesome tutorial here again Becca, it´s always so easy to follow and understand. And your card looks so gorgeous again here too. Sooo beautiful work hun, I really love it.
Have a wonderful day and week ahead here now.
Becca, maybe you made the mistake on the name as the EK punches and the MS punches are made by the same company? There are so many beautiful ones, including the Spellbinder and now even some other companies are getting in on the Spellbinder wagon. Wish I could afford them all!
Brilliant! Another spectacular card and tutorial too.
Blessings Bernie
Beautiful card and thank you so much for the Becca Bit and Bonus! You are totally awesome Thank you Becca!
Becca, what a gorgeous card, it has a Charles Rennie Mackintosh feel to it, absolutely love it. Thank you for posting the video, so useful. Welsh Annie
Thank you so much for the explanations, I just tried the 5×7 vertical card and will get it loaded on my blog today. I love it!! Your card is fabulous!
LOOOOOOOOVE this Becca!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU for showing us! SOOOOOOOO SIMPLE when you show us!!!!!!!!!! I believe I’ll be playing today!!!!!!!!! :) AND Thank you for all the little “Becca Bits!” :) You make a person SMILE!!!!!!!!!!! :)
You are just soooo clever. I adore all of your cards and you really threw me for a loop with that 7″ tall card……………..now I know how you did it !
It IS the paper size that matters most when doing those border punches around the page………I don’t have that particular punch but I may have to go and buy it as it does make such a lovely background.
Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with all of us…..
I am in awe. Your card is simply gorgeous, and just so “together”. Every element complements the total look. It’s lovely. Also, a gi-normous thank you or figuring out these clever punch manoeuvres and for kindly sharing them with us. Your generosity abounds and is appreciated.
Beautiful card Becca. The punched panel gives the card an Asian flair to the card. Embellished beautifully. I love the designer paper it is so pretty. Great video showing us how and a wonderful tip as well. As always Becca, TFS!!!
:-D
Spectacular card as always Becca! I love the background paper. Thanks for sharing the punch tutorial. I’m always looking for new things to try. Especially with my punches,
Hugs, Jess
You never fail to amaze me Becca … both with your talents and your willingness to share your ideas. Another great video and beautiful card.
that punch is so cool, I haven’t seen that one, thanks for showing us how to do this with our own punches, Beautiful card!
Becca,

Becca, Thank you ver much for your video. I usually avoid that kind of card.
The card is beautiful. I definitely have to try that today.
Love, Vicky
Gorgeous and elegant card with the wonderful punched panel!! Thank you so much for sharing how you used the punch to create this terrific look and I will have to give it a try with some punches I own. I appreciate your video as it makes using the punch so clear and I love your tip for making the larger cards from a 8 1/2″ X 11″ piece of cardstock. I love the larger cards also and hate all the waste I get from using a 12″ X 12″ cardstock.
Becca, you have created another beautiful card! You are so generous to share your creativity through video. Thank you so much, you have exceptional God given talents :-)
I love your card. The border punch makes a wonderful and unusual background for the round die cut. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us!
Becca

Another great tutorial, Becca. I was looking at the punches at Michaels tonight wondering which one to get and thinking of your past tutorial. I will have to print my coupon and go back this week, as I just couldn’t decide, and I had forgotten my coupon anyway LOL ;)
Becca,
Will you be teaching classes on the Online Card Classes site? I’d be the first to sign up.
Tammie
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so very very much for the tutorials. I find them very informative and easy to follow. Look forward to viewing your blog and feel you’re oh so talented.
Thanks kindly for the nice tutorial. Another stunner. You always amaze me with how you can easily conjure up creative ideas such as this. You’re one of the few designers that always come up with something new and original.
Thank You for the wonderful tutorial!! You make it look so easy!!!
Thanks for spending the time and your talent to enlighten us!
I will have to “dust off” my border punches and start creating.
I love to learn something new everyday. Thanks for making my day!!!!!
Hope yours is wonderful. Thanks so much Becca!
I used your video to make a vertical 5×7, it’s about the third one down on my blog and I sent them to your blog to watch the video. Thanks so much!!!
Hi Becca :) that’s a beautiful card and thanks so much for doing the video! I’ve just come upon your site and been through a lot of very gorgeous ‘stuff’ :) I think it will be a nice place visit with my tea

Another beautiful card! I love what you have done with the border punch it all adds to the card, and the tutorial was so easy to follow because of your explicit instructions. Thank you Becca.
LOL Eileen
Thanks for the tip on punching the cards. What do you use for envelopes? Where can you buy them?
Hi Becca great tutorial thank you. Ive missed you this week and hope all is well and that we will be seeing you soon. Have a blessed weekend.
I have been trying to find the designer paper you used on the card displayed now with the border punch and spellbinder. It says it is coredinations but I have been to several websites and am unabke to find this. Could you point me in the right direction? I think the paper is beautiful!
Thanks for your help
Thank you. I have new ways to use my punches now
Simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Becca: where do you find the envelopes to fit your card sizes? Do you buy or make them?
this is awsome you are an incredibly talented and blessed lady. I just love going over and over all you work it is so inspiring. Thanks for being a blessing and sharing your talents that God has blessed you with.
Love it so much! A friend of mine made it in Make the Cut program for electronic cutters!!! Not exactly like yours but super cool anyway!
TFS all your hard work for us!
…. hugs and blessings
