Hi there sweet blog friends!  I have something to show you that I was working on last week and the week before.  I’m tickled if I must say so myself – it’s been on my mind for a long time and I finally sat down and did it.  Come have a look see – it’s worth a moment of your time!!

So . . . I strongly believe that if you can see it, you’ll use it.  Even though the packaging is smashing, the beauty of both Spellbinders™ Edgeabilities® and Spellbinders™ M-Bossabilities™ are absolutely magical when you take them out of the package and run them through the machine!!  I’m a very visual person and find it difficult to work from a two dimensional picture.  Voila, once things are out of the box, actual size, real dimension, touchable – they click in my mind.  I’ve had this ATC Holder for more than a year (I have two of them) and finally decided that I need to put them within an arms reach with items I’d like to see on a daily basis.  In this case I embossed all my embossing folders and cut all my edgeabilities.  That way I’ll be able to audition them by pulling each element from the ATC holder and holding them together.  So here’s what I did.

I created labels and embossed each embossing folder, putting a label on the inside edge so that I could quickly identify which folder.
I grouped them in alphabetical order (so that I’ll be able to locate them quickly by name if needed) and filed them away in the ATC Holder.
Then I cut all the Classic Edges Spellbinders Edgeabilities and placed them in the ATC holder together, inserting a black divider to separate each area.
So now I can pull select cards from the file and layer them together to see if they work.  I’m always intrigued by the cut out’s and how they look in different situations and with different colors.  With this entire mix and match system I can now compose with the decorative inserts, classic edges and texture all at the same time.  Like I said . . . if you can see it, you will use it!!

Here are the simple supplies I used – The 7 Gypsies ATC Card Holder, 7 Gypsies ATC Card Punch, 7 Gypsies ATC Blank Cards 7 Gypsies ATC Blank Tabs, Stampin Up Word Punch and the my assortment of embossing folders and Spellbinders Edgeabilities.  As time permits, I’m going back to add all my border punches – then I’ll be all set!!   I don’t have links but if you google, you should be able to find any of the 7 Gypsies items on the internet!

In the meantime . . . I’m checking this off my list!!  See you soon!!

Brilliant idea! What a great way to keep those items close at hand. It’s also a great way, as you mentioned, to get an idea of how they will work together for mixing and matching. You are one smart cookie, Becca!ReplyCancel

Then I read more and ralized how awesome your idea is. I m with Sallie-I have various samples in noteooks. Love this organization and display. I have a tiny space where I do my “creating”- on top of my washer & dryer!
(Very little space to set things down like the 7 gypsies card holder.)There are two cabinets just above this. I have put adhesive-backed magnetic strips on the backs of all four doors upon which I have mounted my Spellbinders- labeled by sets. On the cabinet handle hangs a key
chain that holds a 3×5″ set of cards which I have embossed and labeled
from my embossing folders. I can see it all right where I have my cuttlebug, etc.

    Becca,
For the longest time I have been trying to figure out how I could create something with samples of all the embossing plates that I have and then file the plates in alphabetical order in a box out of the way. I just happen to have a 7 Gypsies Photo Carousel and an ATC Card Holder with extra cards, etc., that I never got around to using so I’m already set…..

What a wonderful idea and this is not the first time I have found a good idea from your ideas. I already fixed a book of all my punches like you did long ago and love it but I will be transferring all my border punches and Spellbinders border dies to this system as those are the most used ones and best to have a sample that is removable for trying on for size and leave those 15 year old punches in the book for a rainy day!!!

I wonder how many ATC card holders will be taken apart now!!!

Thanks so much for the great idea.ReplyCancel

  • Pat KinserMarch 3, 2012 - 10:21 pm

This is really great Becca and looks awesome. i´ve never seen anything here like this holder, so I´ve done a simular system just in a rectangualr box with dividers between them too, and that works pretty well too, as I totally agree, it´s much easier, when you can visualize things. I´m all the same, when I´m working. Your idea is really great too hun.

I must be visual too Becca…I have samples of my border punches already and it surely does make a difference. I can’t tell from the SB dies what the cutout is gonna look like so I’m trying to cut samples of the various sets in at least lightweight cardstock so I can pull them out, see exactly what they’ll look like, and with the flourishes actually try and choose between them on the card itsself. I always look forward to your organizational ideas.ReplyCancel

I think this is brilliant. Unfortunately I have a very small space so this isn’t practical for me. My solution is to have samples of everything, stamps, punches, dies, embossing folders, etc in photo albums. Not out in the open but I can easily pull out a sample and I find as I flip thru my albums it refreshes my memory of what I do have and I am using things more then I once did.

I have lots more to go, but it’s a start, and it was such fun to recall what I HAD to use! Now your idea is wonderful. What a wonderful idea. I can see lots of uses! I have just spent a hour looking for a rotary card punch, even just the holes. With out success. I would have thought this would be a item all paper craft punch manufactures would carry like ek sucuss, creative memories, spellbinders, CTMH, stamped up etc. they must be out there, I know I can make one with my pazzles, but a punch would be much nicer for me. This will work great for ink, glitter, pencil, etc colors, too.

I have the stand, but have been looking on the internet for two days looking for the plain tags…with the notches…or the punch to cut the notches-discontinued, and can’t find anything. Do you have a source? Today, frustration is my name. I love the idea and you’re right…when you see it you use it. I can make my own tags, but the notches are the problem. Do you have any ideas on how to cut them? It’s a great idea if I can just impliment it. Many Thanks.ReplyCancel

Hi there blog friends!   We are to Day Three of releases for the Waltzingmouse Stamps February sets.  Today we’re introducing two more new sets – Compact Sentiments and Heritage Patterns.   I couldn’t resist stamping out the harlequin pattern to use for my background on Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Three!  For the rest of my card I went with tones of an aqua that has some gray or blue in it, and was able to work it into the flowers made with Spellbinders™ Bitty Blossoms.

I loved the contrast of the white so I also used some embellishing curls from Spellbinders™ Floral Flourishes.  For my sentiment I simply cut a banner and snipped the ends, then stamped and curled up the edges.  Compact Sayings is one of those stash must haves – the sayings will take you through quite a few occasions!

SUPPLIES I USED

Hi there blog friends, tell me I’m not crazy, please!  My received this envelope in the mail yesterday from my dear sweet friend Suzanne Cannon with Quietfire Design (addresses photoshopped out).  Oh, I was enthralled by the swirls and details, examining the penmanship while walking back to the house from the mailbox.  Who doesn’t practically skip when such delightful envelope comes their way?  Mr. Mailman – eat your heart out!!  I marveled over it, looked at the handwriting from all angles and poured over the details of the Canadian stamps.  This is a sickness, right?  So today I have to figure out a way to get the contents out while preserving this treasure!  Just in case you didn’t know, I’m a big fan of Suzanne and her stamps at Quietfire Design . . .  By the way, is it curious that the stamps were not cancelled?  Is that the way it works for things that come from Canada or was the mailman just mesmerized like I was – by such a pretty sweet thing?

Today I wanted to share with you the final part of an ensemble I made for Spellbinders, It’s a 6″ x 6″ calendar holder with a tiny bit of inspiration.  This is just the kind of thing I love to have sitting on my desk to remind me why I love to craft.  It’s very simple in design but the embossing is really the main feature.  It’s not made how you think – the simple way it’s made makes it an easy gift item – easier than a card – I’ll reconstruct it in coming days.

I downloaded the calendar for this project at the Canon site – here’s a link to Canon Creative Park :-)

  • MarisaFebruary 22, 2012 - 9:24 am

Beautiful project, Becca! Amazing that your letter got there with the way the name was beautifully caligraphied on it, but what a great treat :) I see you have some of our Chinese New Year stamps – they are always so bright and fun to look at. Believe it is the year of the dragon again and their dragon images are always so fun! As for the postage marks, they are usually there, you got lucky they were not stamped.ReplyCancel

Am I not seeing something….there is no address just your name on the envelope? Amazing, but then when the Lord wants to get something done things like this happen, His love never fails. I am looking forward to the directions on this bright little card. Getting to really like those “blues.”ReplyCancel

Wow, Becca, that envelope is amazing! I assume it got to you without an address because of the barcode on the bottom-wonderful mail service!
Your calender is awesome. At first I wondered what embossing folder that was, but then thought it must be one of the new Spellbinders M-bossibilities, Yup! then looked at the supplies list. Might just have to break down and get this one. Love it! Thank you so much for all your inspiration. I just received the twisted metal tags and accents. Can’t wait to use them.

This is BEAUTIFUL! What a lovely gift this would be. Looking forward to the tutorial.

Receiving an envelope like that would get my heart a racing, oh the anticipation. Something so beautiful would surely contain some thing special. I don’t know how you waited to take a photo of it, photoshop it and post it. I’d have had the kettle on and steamed it open before the mail man made it round the corner. Interesting that there is a bar code at the bottom but those spectacular stamps were not canceled.

For me it’s happen 4 -5 times a year my stamps are not obliterate in particular during Chrismas time.
I love so much this enveloppe. It was in my goals for this year to practice
Calligraphy. I have try but I am very far of something OK.
In Europe it is much more popular than here so we don’t have an easy access I cannot find an amazing calligrapher…I would like so much to learn from some one, I feel the enveloppe is so neglected.

You made again a very nice project. Thank for showing this enveloppe it is so perfect with your work.

I’ve done a little bit of calligraphy in my past but had difficulty in finding a great calligraphy pen until recently. The Pilot Parallel Pens are beautifully crafted and there are so many colors of ink cartridges! Actually I’ve learned the trick of blending 2 and 3 colors together. It’s really magical and easy! I’ve found some of these pens at art supplies stores and the pens come in 4 different nib sizes as well as 3 “altered” sizes from the original nibs. Also available online, of course.

Becca, you should definitely try your hand at calligraphy. I’ll bet you will excel once you get the hang of it.ReplyCancel

I live in Canada and I find that once in a while the machines maybe skip an envie and it doesn’t get cancelled. So of course I save them and reuse them! Or save the envelope by opening it carefully and place stickers over the addresses and reuse it! They are usually cancelled tho. No way a postal worker didn’t cancel it on purpose because it’s done by machine. Nice thought tho! :)ReplyCancel

Isn’t Suzanne wonderful ! I was in West Coast Calligraphy when she lived in Vancouver. Took a few of her workshops. Never will be a good as her. I would email her she knows a lot of tricks and probably how to open easily. The freezer idea sounds feasible.

ok, if the envelope is gummed you can steam it open and leave intact. good luck. you may just want to use a razor to cut one end right on the crease. don’t get the steam on the front or it may make the ink run. i have found her site by links from you. it’s a wonderful place. more talent than should be legal and great customer service. we chatted briefly. as always your work is wonderful. i have a girls weekend for stamping and may try it soon. have a wonderful day. and let us know what was in the envelope please.ReplyCancel

    Morning Becca,
In this time of bills and flyers it is fabulous to get a personal letter or card in the post but what a wonderful treat getting an envelope address like that! Just a note to us crafters that we should take some pride in our envelopes too.

I’ve been promising myself that I’ll learn calligraphy ( true to form I have the pens & books but not the time) but I’ll make time starting today.

Have a happy day and hopefully it will be crafting (we love your inspirations)

    Hi Becca,
This is lovely and again the colours are so regal.
I think I know how you have made this, as I have done this before for a folded album. Is it folding a piece of double sided 12×12 heavyweight paper, with a diamond shape linking piece between as the spine? If it is, this is a wonderful technique to learn isn’t it, as it can be used for smaller sizes too and can be made into special gifts. I have seen a fabulous wall hanging done by linking 3or 4 ‘squares’ together (8×8 paper making a 4inch finished piece) and adhered pictures in the middle. Also, another lovely blogger made one with an initial in each square with foliage embellishments to celebrate the Autumn season.
Another wonderful Becca idea with the calender and I love it.
Thank you Becca. Take care LindaReplyCancel

Hi Becca, I think the world of calligraphers and cardmakers is a whole lot more creative since you and Suzanne became such a “made in heaven team”. In my opinion our Canadian Postal Service really does go all out when it come to stamp design. I can really personalize each card that I send out by selecting carefully from all their beautiful designs. Your little calendar design would make a lovely little gift for a dear friend…and it lasts a whole year. Clever you!ReplyCancel

Hi, I put this comment under the Hex box you made which is beautiful BTW! What I was wondering, is there instructions on how to make the card above? And, I went to the Canon site and could not find the calendar you used on the card. All of the ones I saw on the Canon site are 4 X 6 or larger. The calendar you used looks like it is probably smaller. Could you tell me what size this calendar is and where it might be located on the site. Thank you so much, your work is beautiful!
