Good morning and Happy (Day of Giving) Friday.  I love giving no occasion cards and thankfully this supports all the justifications I have for card making.  Let’s face it, there’s a gap from one holiday to the next so this is what fills in the cracks and puts the responsible facade on the front of some of my collecting habits :-). Seriously though, of all the cards given, holiday cards seem to be anticipated, while that ‘no occasion’, ‘just because’ card is simply a spontaneous surprise and likely at the time that it is needed the most.  My thought for you today is to never doubt your own kindness.  It is not frivolous and you can never measure how much you have lifted someone at their darkest moment.  Today I’m sharing a simple blessing card.  I duplicated this card many times to send out to friends and I’m letting my last one go…

Beautiful card Becca. I love sending the people I care about a card just to let them know I am thinking about them. It doesn’t have to be just for a special occasion. So I definitely send more anytime cards by far then I do Holiday cards. This is why I love your blog. You always find such wonderful sentiment stamps and such wonderful and unique card designs. You are such an inspiration to us all Becca.ReplyCancel

    Another stunning card Becca!

I give cards all year long, so I guess I do anytime cards most of the time; however, I do almost all of my Christmas cards, so I guess it is pretty even. I get such positive feedback whenever I give one of my cards.ReplyCancel

  • Gwendolyn GilesJuly 29, 2016 - 9:52 am

Hi Becca. Such a beautiful card. I make and give lots of birthday cards. I have everyone spoiled because they expect only handmade cards.ReplyCancel

  • ChelseaJuly 29, 2016 - 9:52 am

Becca, your words just brought tears to my eyes today because you really never know when you send the “just because” card how much it will touch someone. In this day of social media we are losing the gesture of sending cards “just because”. We text, we instant-message, but we are often too busy to send something beautiful like this card of yours. You are an inspiration to us all.
I send more “thinking of you” than holiday cards. In fact, I don’t send many holiday cards at all anymore. Maybe I’ll do better this year!ReplyCancel

  • KathyJuly 29, 2016 - 10:00 am

Beautiful card. I definitely send out more holiday cards than “just because”. I send 20 cards for each holiday, so as soon as one holiday ends, I start planning for the next. Right now I am finishing Halloween, but I have several ideas for Thanksgiving on the drawing board. Of course, I also make birthday & thank you cards throughout the year. I have embraced a suggestion from Jennifer McGuire & try to make multiples of the same card so I always have one ready to go! Blessings to you!ReplyCancel

Good morning, Becca. Your card for today is so perfect! Although I love the idea of sending a card spontaneously for “no occasion” I’m always so behind in the cards for birthdays, etc. that I never seem to be able to make cards ahead! This card is so beautiful and I will probably attempt to do it for a special birthday or an anniversay for someone special. If I ever get organized, who knows maybe someday I, too, can surprise a lucky friend of mine with this “no occasion” card. It could happen. Thanks, as always, for sharing your wonderful talent and creative ideas.ReplyCancel

  • Barbara CJuly 29, 2016 - 10:23 am

Gorgeous card, Becca! I do mostly holiday/occasion cards, but I really want to do more “anytime” cards. I think they are more important! Being a 24/7 caregiver to my husband, I know what it means to find an unexpected note or card in my mailbox…it means the world to me. It means I’m not forgotten. • SuzzieQJuly 29, 2016 - 10:26 am

Your “Blessing” card is beautiful. I give/send more all occasion cards than Holiday cards if one counts Birthday and Anniversary cards in the all occasion cards. I find as I am aging and my friends are aging and they are going through life’s trials and health issues, I am making and sending out loads of “thinking of you” cards to lift their spirits. When I first found your blog last summer during your give away a day card time, one of your questions had to do with what do we do with the extra cards we make. My answer at that time was to tell you I was making one card at a time and did not have any extras on hand. Well, times have changed. And now I do make more of the same design, changing colors and placements to change them up to have extras on hand. That way I can get my cards in the mail sooner without the waiting time of making one card at a time. Wishing you a most pleasant weekend. How’s your foot?ReplyCancel

  • DebraJuly 29, 2016 - 10:27 am

This is a great idea to give ‘no occasion’ cards. I love making them more than any other kind of card. When my daughter was away from home, I used to make and send her encouragement cards often but now she is home, I don’t. Maybe I need to start up that practice again! Right now I make more holiday and occasion cards. You’ve created another beautiful card for us Becca! Thanks for sharing!ReplyCancel

  • TammieJuly 29, 2016 - 10:28 am

Hi Becca. Hope you are healing well.
I love the simple message of this card. I would send a card with this message to several special people in my life. I send “anytime” cards more often than holiday cards. Each day is an opportunity to share a sweet message with others.ReplyCancel

  • Brenda WJuly 29, 2016 - 10:31 am

Becca, all your cards are so beautiful and I’d love to receive one.
The cards I send out most are just everyday cards. I love to send them to my family to let them know how much I care or to just give them a little chuckle with the humorous ones I send.

My daughters and grandkids love receiving them and if I haven’t sent one in a while I always get, “Hey, where’s my cards?”ReplyCancel

  • Judy BJuly 29, 2016 - 10:35 am

I probably do a lot more holiday cards then “thinking of you” cards. The times that I have sent out those cards I received calls from the recipients on how they loved getting the card. We all should be more thoughtful and kind to others. Your card is amazing as usual Becca.ReplyCancel

  • Yoshiko GlennJuly 29, 2016 - 10:36 am

Another gorgeous/elegant card that anybody would love receiving at any time. I tend to do more “event” cards (weddings, birthdays, births, etc.), followed by Christmas cards.ReplyCancel

  • Joanne LoweJuly 29, 2016 - 10:48 am

Definitely more of the anytime cards–thank you, get well, thinking of you, etc. I love sending an encouragement card, hoping to make a whole lot more once my craft room is completely overhauled, and I just bought a new electric die-cutting machine (Gemini by CC), and am hoping that this is going to make die-cutting and card-making a lot easier physically. Can’t wait to try some watercoloring on images heat embossed in white or clear, I really want to try this, and I’m hoping I can do a decent job.

Always LOVE your cards, Becca!!! You are such an encouragement and a blessing to all of us here who read your blog updates regularly, and I know to all of those loved ones around you. I hope you know just how much you mean to all of us!!! And I hope that you have dear ones who regularly encourage YOU!!! A friend today put a posting on FB talking about how God’s grace is sufficient, even for all of my flaws and failings, realizing this is such an encouragement to me…

Be blessed, Becca, and have a very enjoyable weekend.ReplyCancel

  • Carole FlanaginJuly 29, 2016 - 10:57 am

Becca, what an inspiration you have been to me in my card making. This card is absolutely beautiful. I make cards year round for family, friends, senior members of our church. This means I am making Christmas, birthdays, thinking of you, get well, sympathyk, and love making those cute new baby cards. I would have to say that I make less holiday cards.ReplyCancel

  • Marilyn in E~TownJuly 29, 2016 - 10:57 am

Gorgeous card! I love your loopy bow, such a sweet addition. I love to send “just because” cards at any time, for any reason. Who wouldn’t want to find a gorgeous hand made card in their mail box, talk about a spirit lifting moment! I can visualize smiling faces now.
I also made it a mission of mine to make a project every year for the ladies at my church, then I mail it to them on their birthdays, it is as much of a pleasure for them to receive as it is for me to make, thinking of each of them as I assembly the project. So far I’ve done cards with flower bouquets, cards with a hand colored image and this year they get a puff pillow box, with flowers and a mini birthday card inside. 2017 will be a tag with a Magnolia-Lucius image colored on it.
Oh how I love to brighten other people’s day?
    Have a wonderful weekend BeccaReplyCancel

I actually think, I do more anytime cards than holiday cards. Especially the last couple of years life has been a bit rough, so I haven´t got as many holidaycards done, as I used to earlier, but I alwayas manage one way or another to get them at least one card during the year, either for their birthday or sometime else, or just because, and that´s because all other people make or get cards to give for these special occasions, but then I´ll make one for some other time, when they least expect it, and it can hopefully make their day at that time.
Thanks sooo much for sharing this gorgeous card here today Becca, it´s soooo gorgeous and sooo elegant. I just absolutely love it with that fabulous bow on it.ReplyCancel

I so love your cards and especially your dies! As to what cards I make the most, I’m on the design team for Crafters companion so I rarely have the time to make cards to give “just because” although I do try to for both our parents as they do so much for us. It’s our 17th wedding anniversary today and I’ve been so busy with dt work plus we’ve just moved that today is the first time since I’ve been making cards that my poor hubby didn’t get one. When I apologised he don’t worry I have loads you’ve made me.

    Hi, Becca,
YOU are a blessing! I can see why you duplicated this card – it is so beautiful, sight and sentiment.
While I do make a lot of cards at the holidays, especially Christmas, I make cards for my church and community choirs to reach out to our members in greater quantities. “Thinking of You” cards for Sympathy or health concerns are the most common, with “Thank You” cards in the mix, as well. I am challenged to keep up with demand, but I am honored to have many people around me that appreciate and encourage my craft.
Love and blessings for your health & happiness,

    Hi Becca!
Love the cream color to this card. I seem to forget cream and go in favor of white. I love the layering on this card but especially love the pop of the pink ribbon and button details! I seem to give cards mostly for birthdays and holidays, although, I do send “brighten your day cards” to my two daughters who sometimes need a boost of confidence. I need to rethink sending out for ‘just because’ more!ReplyCancel

Card making ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders 5 x 7 Elegant Labels Four, Spellbinders Majestic Circles, Spellbinders Back to Basics Tags - full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
Happy and cheerful Friday blog friends!  It’s rainy here but I don’t have to go out so I put on a fluffy pair of socks and brewed up a huge carafe of French Vanilla Coffee and plan to play catch up on many of the things that escaped my grasp over the last month or so.    Yes, catch up – I’m behind on picking winners for Day of Giving Friday and getting my cards sent out, but I plan to be on top of that by tomorrow !  Speaking of Day of Giving Friday todays card is up for grabs to one of my readers – simple leave a comment to get in the running.
Card making ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders 5 x 7 Elegant Labels Four, Spellbinders Majestic Circles, Spellbinders Back to Basics Tags - full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
For this card I used classic dies with a bit of layering to build up  to the top layer.  The card base is 6″ tall and 5-1/2″ wide.  The main focal panel features Spellbinders 5 x 7 Elegant Labels Four but you will notice that it doesn’t seem to stand as tall as 5 x 7.  I cut the die two thirds of the way down and shrunk it down to fit on my card.  The big bow hides this doctoring.  Whittling away a die is a favorite technique of mine to get a bigger use!  The focal panel is then layered with Spellbinders Majestic Circles and topped with a label die that is no longer available but very similar to Spellbinders Labels Thirty Three.  To finish the card I added a small sentiment with the use of a small tag from Spellbinders Back to Basics Tags

hi, gorgeous card. wish I could stay in the lines when I color. so my most memorable independence day was one many years ago. I was 16 or so and had, should say have, a little bit of fun and humorous antics. my friends dad was in the parade and when he got even with us I let off some snappers near his feet. he wasn’t amused to say the least but we all had fun. snappers are those little things that make a small pop sound when they land. fireworks were not allowed in the state I was in. ok only by professionals. so that was the closest thing we had. plus some smoke bombs and snakes. so after the wrath from my friends dad came we all had a picnic at their house. no hard feelings. then the real fireworks at the fair that night. thanks for letting us share today.ReplyCancel

Beautiful Card Becca. I am in Canada so haven’t had many July 4th celebrations as we are usually in U.S. in the winter time. .
Our most memorable was July 4, 1976. I think it was the USA’s 200th Birthday. Awoke in Wheatridge, Colorado that morning & spent day traveling & scenery was fantastic. Everyplace had flags waving! Went thru Vail & lunch at Glenwood Springs (100 deg) HOT!
Too many experiences to mention but I remember that day well.
Got to Green River, Utah. Got to room looking forward to a shower & Hydro went off (upstairs room-very nice but hot)It was a great day!!! I love the U.S.A.ReplyCancel

  • Joni StonekingJuly 1, 2016 - 12:50 pm

Such a pretty card…all soft and lovely!
My best memory of the 4th was back in the early 80s. The Beach Boys had been uninvited to the White House as not formal enough or some such nonsense so instead they came to Denver, and gave an hours long concert that kept my friends and me on our feet, dancing and singing along, embarrassing the children along with us, the whole time. We had such a good time. And then, in honor of the occasion, Denver out on what was billed at the time as, the largest fireworks show ever, west of the Mississippi. It went on what seemed like forever…in reality, about 45 minutes. Good, clean family fun, safe, filled with laughter. People were able to bring in their own food, so picnic style in the stadium. It was simply delightful.
Hope your 4th is blessed this weekend, Becca.ReplyCancel

Love those layers, love those colors, LOVE that beautiful Becca bow on this card! Your “French” background is showing on this card! Now to your question: my best memory of an early Independence Day celebration was on a very HOT day in my back yard surrounded by many children my age running around and playing various games. The high-light of the day was eating a fresh churned bowl of peach ice cream that my father and brothers produced from salt and ice. Remember the “old fashioned” ice cream churns? My younger brother was so funny sitting on the ice cream churn while my father tuned the churn’s handle. My brother would slide off the churn from time to time due to the movement made by the turning of the handle.ReplyCancel

An absolut stunning card here again Becca. I love the stamp you´ve used and your gorgeous bow with the sweet little sentiment on the tag is just gorgeous too. Everything is beautiful as usual.
I´m so lucky, that I only live about 10 miles away from the only placec outside the US, where the 4th of Jully is cellebrated by the Danish/American friendshipunion here, and every year they´re having a huge celebration with prominent speakers from both Denmark and the US, and we´´ve heard many different ministers from both countries over the years and many amazing actors and that kind of people from both sides. I still think one of the biggest experiences was once, when I was about 10 years old and we went there the whole family, and I was falling down the sides from one of the steep hills, and a man came and helped me up again and followed me back to my parents, and my mum almost got a heartattack, but it was first many years later, I really found out why, as I sure couldn´t understand the weird words that foreign man was using, but later in lige, I found out, that the man who helped me up and followed me back actually was Danny Kaye, and had I known then I would´ve asked for his autograph ha ha ha, but I had no idea then.ReplyCancel

it really allows the black accents to pop!

My favorite 4th of July celebrations go back to my days at Purdue… they allowed picnics on the ball fields, and when the sun went down, had spectacular fireworks displays in coordination with the cities of W.Lafayette and Lafayette. They had huge speakers set up around the fields where lovely background music was pumped in. The days spent playing games, eating, and just relaxing with friends, were the best ever.ReplyCancel

My favorite memories of July 4th revolve around the fact that it was also my dad’s birthday. I was well into elementary school before I figured out the whole country wasn’t celebrating my daddy’s birthday. :) For Dad’s 80th b’day we were able to host a celebration at our home. All 5 of my siblings and almost all of the grandchildren were there. It was a great day celebrating not only our country’s freedom but also my wonderful dad. Dad went home to be with the Lord in 2008 before his 84th birthday. He’s still greatly missed.ReplyCancel

First of all what a beautiful card and how nice that you are having some rain. We have had some here in Colorado so it helped with the heat. For all those states that are having fires we can only keep them in our prayers. My 4th of July memories was one where we went on a picnic and just had some nice sandwiches-chips and a soda pop. Than my older brother would buy me sparkles or as I use to say little stars. It was always nice just to see other families having a good time and enjoying what we are blessed with and what the 4th is all about. Independence that has been given to us all by so many service men and women that have fought or given their lives for us to be able to enjoy. So to all who have paid the price I salute them and say THANKS and God Bless this great country USA!!!!! Have a Happy and safe 4th to you Becca and to all these wonderful followers of this awesome blog.ReplyCancel

    Hi, Becca,
Another lovely pink card…so soft and elegant.

I love to watch fireworks live but there have been some spectacular shows on television. One year, I watched a program that named and described different kinds of fireworks. Up to that point, I really didn’t realize there were so many completely different effects – so interesting and amazing!

Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday weekend!
    Blessings, SandyReplyCancel

No matter where we are, no matter what state we’re in, there are always FIREWORKS and baseball games. My fav! HAPPY 4th OF JULY TO YOU, TOO? We plan to read the Declaration of Independence this year. We want to remind ourselves just how exceptional the United States of America truly is. This Country is a hodgepodge of every Nationality you can name and yet together we all love the FREEDOM we have here in America! God Bless you and God Bless America! Ooops! My favorite memories of the 4th of July celebration was when the grandchildren were small and we always went to a neighboring small town for their big celebration. They had an awesome parade and later games and rides for the kids, a cake walk and good food. Later we would go back to our Aunt and Uncle’s house, with Great grandpa and play cards. Then, when it got dark, light up the firecrackers! Great memoriesReplyCancel

  • Rosemary TejaJuly 1, 2016 - 5:41 pm

My fondest memories are of going to the parade and honoring all of those we died and helped keep our freedom. All these people should be honored everyday they gave their live for us so that we may enjoy all our freedom we have in this great country
By the way the card is gorgeous and glad to see you have a new post I worry when I see nothing of you for a while. Go speed and remember to honor all our vets alive or gone.ReplyCancel

We lived on a greenway, the children were grown and my husband and I sat on the greenway just outside of our backyard all bundled up in blankets to watch the fireworks. When it was over, we picked up our chairs and walked a few feet to our house! No traffic jam for us. Your card is beautiful as usual.ReplyCancel

I was fortunate enough in 1976 to be in NYC when our country turned 200. The fireworks were amazing. And the tall ships in the harbor were so appropriate and wonderful. I can’t believe it’s been that long ago. Our country is amazing and so very resilient. We can and will weather any storm, with God’s help, of course. Happy Birthday, America.ReplyCancel

Such a lovely feminine card, Becca. Thank you.
One year we had some friends over and were babysitting our 3yr old grandson. Someone in the neighborhood was setting off firecrackers. Each time our grandson would whisper “what’s that” with a quizzical look on his face. We would explain that they were firecrackers. After three or four times they stopped for a while. We continued visiting with our friends and were busy chatting away when the firecrackers went off again. Our grandson jumped out of his chair and shouted “fire cookies!!!” It still makes me giggle sixteen years later! God bless him!ReplyCancel

I’ve always loved parades and the Fourth of July Parades were always the most memorable and emotional ones. I love the military bands playing all the various themes from the military branches ie: Air Force, Army…. and the precision marching. It always left a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye because of the dramatic heart thumping rhythm and loud brassy sounds. A good reminder of our great country.ReplyCancel

Impressive card Becca, just love all the touches and the light use of color. So attractive & special.

My favorite 4th of July holiday memory was when we first moved into this house in 1989. We have a slight hill at the back of the yard and we decided to take the folding chairs up to the top so we could enjoy the timed fireworks show from 2 city parks in our neighborhood along with the radio station that plays the music for the show. My son (who was 11 at the time) was trying to be good, watered 1/2 of the hill (????) so when we took the chairs up at dusk, we didn’t notice the mud/sludge. During the course of the show, the chairs began to slip down the hill, with us in them. By the time we caught our bearing, we were covered in mud, laughing our fool heads off……it was a fun holiday that year, albeit, a messy one.ReplyCancel

So graceful, so delicate, so ladylike, so Beccalicious! Beautiful. My best memories of July 4th have been centered around family, friends, food and fireworks. HI Becca,
Lovely card today. That cup of vanilla coffee sounds really yummy. Wouldn’t mind making one for myself, it is so cold hear in Australia at the moment. For Australia Day celebrations my best memory was taking my kids, when they were younger, to the celebrations where they played lots of good old fashioned games like sack races, throwing boots etc.
I have visited the states twice & seems that I always leave about a week too early. I plan to come again some time in the next few years, I hope. This time I will definitely have to put it in my itinerary along with Disney Land & any thing crafty lol.

Card Makiing Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design (Light Tomorrow with Today) and Spellbinders Pierced Squares, Spellbinders Gothic Border - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends!  This has been the week of tone on tone here on my blog and I wanted to show you one more alternative.  This is layered tone on tone where a glimmer of another color shows through from the back.  Here again it adds some color but on this particular card helps to bring a little bit of definition to the border I’ve used.

Card Makiing Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design (Light Tomorrow with Today) and Spellbinders Pierced Squares, Spellbinders Gothic Border - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Walk Through on How to Make Card

Base
This is a basic 6″ x 6″ card with a matted layer that is 5-3/4″ x 5-3/4″.  I simply glued a square directly to my matted layer using Spellbinders Pierced Squares and stamped inside the square with my sentiment.

Focal Panel
The focal panel is cut from Spellbinders Gothic Border – I cut this border four times and glued it together matching at the corners to make a frame.   Tiny pieces of double layered foam tape elevate it.

Embellishment
One bow with short tales to span the width of the bottom border and pearls around the square are simple enough to give a little bit of flair!

WR-Supplies
Rubber Stamps: Quietfire Design – Light Tomorrow with Today
Craft Paper: Neenah Classic Crest – Natural White – 80lb Smooth, The Fine Touch Metallic Poster Board
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black, Ranger Super Fine Detail Embossing Powder
Accessories: Spellbinders Pierced SquaresSpellbinders Gothic Border, Recollection Pearls, Satin Ribbon – The Paper Sourcepost-header-bottomThanks for indulging me through my tone-on-tone roll.  They are seriously so simple and every once in awhile that’s in order, right?  Hope you have a great day!  I’ll be back soon!
