I often talk with fellow designers and we notice that people love the projects that they can easily reproduce themselves. Well it’s no secret that I can sometimes get a little bit detail oriented or intricate with some of the embellishments on my cards. I dunno – my muse pushes me down that road. So then, frequently an email comes in asking if I ever do anything simple. Well, dear blog reader who always asks me for simple, today is your day ;-) By the way these cards were made from my very, very favorite Our Daily Bread Designs sets, Scripture Collection I and Scripture Collection II. I have to say this – this is a must have set and if you have never purchased from ODBD, these should be your first sets. They cover any occasion and my heart swells with any opportunity I get to use them!!
Thrifty gal that I am, one of the many things I’m drawn to collecting is out of date calendars. I’m looking at the artwork and always thought that at the very least they could be used as envelopes because of the big size. Earlier this year I purchased two calendars at Hobby Lobby for a dollar each since they were 2008 calendars. My goodness the artwork was lovely! I sat down to the task of making a set of cards to go in the purse I showed you about a week ago – you can see it HERE. Because (often to my chagrin) I labor over things far longer than I should – I gave myself a 10 minute time limit on each card.
I pulled each of the calendar pages apart for both calendars and kept one sheet for the card and one sheet for the envelope. Use what ever envelope template suits your need and if you don’t have one, THIS one is excellent. From the two pages I was able to get an envelope and enough to make two cards. Now since I had the luxury of having enough paper, I was picky about the focal point of the card and was often able to get one of the lovely flowers in the center.
I shared these earlier this year in my Dirty Dozen Fan Club Gallery but the pictures were mighty small. Now I can share them in full size! Since there are 11 of them – I’m gonna break it up into two posts. Here are the first six:

Becca, Beautiful and simply elegant! These calendar pages are gorgeous! I have to ask a detail question, does the inside of the envelope show the calendar or did you line it? I asked that because it brought to mind an article I read in a mission magazine once, that the author had saved calendars and such to send to the mission field for art projects etc., and that the recipient loved it because the sender had sent their personal picture calendars with all the dates written in with appointments, birthdays, events, and such. The recipient missionary said she got “to know” the sender by reading them, and was blessed by the connection to the sender. Tnd hank you for the memory jog and reason to recycle or search the dollar bin,!, for supplies!

Great idea. Now I can finally use those old calenders I have stacked in my Craft Room. I just purchased the scripture stamps so I am anxious to use them. This will be a fun project Thanks for the idea.

Wow! Those are beautiful! Thanks for the wonderful idea. I always stock up on out-of-date calendars when they’re practically giving them away, but I never thought to make matching cards and envelopes. (I usually use them on decorated composition books.)

These are gorgeous, but don’t feel that you are too detail oriented. The items you make are very inspiring and prompt me to use the many toys I’ve purchased…dies, punches, and on and on. I love the idea of the cards and envelopes to match from the old calendars. Timely project since 2009 is coming to a close and there are probably many, many calendars out there for sale!!
