I often talk with fellow designers and we notice that people love the projects that they can easily reproduce themselves. Well it’s no secret that I can sometimes get a little bit detail oriented or intricate with some of the embellishments on my cards. I dunno – my muse pushes me down that road. So then, frequently an email comes in asking if I ever do anything simple. Well, dear blog reader who always asks me for simple, today is your day ;-) By the way these cards were made from my very, very favorite Our Daily Bread Designs sets, Scripture Collection I and Scripture Collection II. I have to say this – this is a must have set and if you have never purchased from ODBD, these should be your first sets. They cover any occasion and my heart swells with any opportunity I get to use them!!
Thrifty gal that I am, one of the many things I’m drawn to collecting is out of date calendars. I’m looking at the artwork and always thought that at the very least they could be used as envelopes because of the big size. Earlier this year I purchased two calendars at Hobby Lobby for a dollar each since they were 2008 calendars. My goodness the artwork was lovely! I sat down to the task of making a set of cards to go in the purse I showed you about a week ago – you can see it HERE. Because (often to my chagrin) I labor over things far longer than I should – I gave myself a 10 minute time limit on each card.
I pulled each of the calendar pages apart for both calendars and kept one sheet for the card and one sheet for the envelope. Use what ever envelope template suits your need and if you don’t have one, THIS one is excellent. From the two pages I was able to get an envelope and enough to make two cards. Now since I had the luxury of having enough paper, I was picky about the focal point of the card and was often able to get one of the lovely flowers in the center.
I shared these earlier this year in my Dirty Dozen Fan Club Gallery but the pictures were mighty small. Now I can share them in full size! Since there are 11 of them – I’m gonna break it up into two posts. Here are the first six:

Like others, I want to say “what a fantastic idea!”. I am not a recycle geek but I always think the beautiful pictures on calendars should not have to be thrown out but ridiculous to keep them. Giving them continuing life and sending out a special thought to someone else..well that is perfect!!
Becca – these are nothing short of stunning – and how clever (as well as thrifty). Year after year we throw away old calendars – always wanting to keep the pictures but just not being able to keep them all. You are so creative and innovative. Thanks so much for sharing so we can all be creative in our own way by following your lead.

These are just gorgeous, what a wonderful idea, I have an old Thomas Kinkaid calendar and I think I need to get it out and play.
This is such a great idea! I went right out to Michaels and bought duplicates of three different designs of their dollar calendars–plus I had a 20% off coupon for everything! LOL! Last night I made up the first set of cards and envelopes. They are beautiful. Now I think I may go buy a third of each calendar and add it with the note cards as a little gift?!? Thanks so much for sharing your talents and cleverness!

Kind of new to all of this so didn’t know whether I could post a question or not but a lot of times the calendar page is on the back of the picture. How do you hide that with the envelope?
Yes!!! I was wondering about the “grid lines” of the previous month on the “Back/inside” of the envelope??? Maybe you can just leave it and it will add to the charm and “homemade” / “green /recycled” feel to your project. Beautiful though and a fantastic idea!!!
