Sweet blog friends, so sorry for my absence.  Like most, I go through brief bouts of being overwhelmed and pushing to create and that’s when I know it’s time to take a couple of days off to rejuvenate.  It feels empty to make something just for the sake of making it – I love to enjoy the process and I really do craft from the heart.  This is from my heart.  I sat down yesterday with the Fine Feathers stamp set from Waltzingmouse Stamps that I added to my collection after last months release – truth be known, I had to have it.  Claire made sure it found it’s way into my hands – thank you Claire!!!  It’s been a week of introspection and this is a beautiful reminder, one I sorely needed.  It was my treat to sit down and create with such a beautiful thought.

Waltzingmouse Stamps - Fine Feathers; Spellbinders Scalloped Borders Two, Spellbinders Opulent Ovals, Spellbinders Labels Thirty Two, Spellbinders Captivating Squares; www.amazingpapergrace.com (closeup)

I pulled a couple of dies together to layer and the card base is made as I’ve shown with the Filigree Hinged Card Tutorial using Spellbinders Scalloped Borders Two.  It was made that way so that the two borders used could be arranged on a flat front sheet and then joined to the back – I find it easiest that way.  I followed with Spellbinders Opulent Ovals, Spellbinders Labels Thirty Two and Spellbinders Captivating Squares.   The cut out from the borders made such an intriguing window that I lined the inside with pink.

Here’s your Step-By-Step Recap, from the bottom up, just in case you’d like to make one too.  Start out with a card base cut to 5-3/4″ wide x 6″ tall.  Cut with Scalloped Borders Two before assembling, foam tape, die cut layer from white using Opulent Ovals, foam tape, die cut layer from white using Labels Thirty Two, foam tape, die cut layer from white using Captivating Squares.

Your work is absolutely gorgeous–every one deserves to be in a frame, on the wall!!!

I have purchased two of the elaborate, lacy, Spellbinders dies recently and haven’t been able to use them–what is the secret to getting all the little throw away pieces out without ripping the rest of the paper??? someone said to use waxed paper–I assume you put it on top of the die, then your c.s.. I have a Big Shot and have had to add a piece of c.s. to get them to work at all. the latest one I have tried is the Majestic Elements.

    thanks much, Jo AnneReplyCancel

Spellbinders Enchanted Labels Twenty Eight, Spellbinders Wrought Iron, JustRite Custom Die - Vintage Labels Four - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends, I hope you had a stellar weekend!!  Last week was busy with new releases from JustRite and today I’m sharing another one that I wasn’t able to work in.  I reached for a Spellbinders die that I had not used before, and paired it with Grand Sentiments.  This time around I used Spellbinders Enchanted Labels Twenty Eight and used it as a frame tucking my panels up into each corner.  On the next layer I used Spellbinders Wrought Iron by cutting two and using them as a background.  For the sentiment I used Vintage Labels Four which is a Spellbinders Custom for JustRite Die.

WRBF-3944-2013
I loved the inner shape of the stamped frame so I took a second to fussy cut the upper layer and popped it up for dimension.

Here’s a Step-by-Step Recap of the Layers from the bottom up:  Pink cardbase 7-1/4″ x 5-3/8″, foam tape, die cut layer using Enchanted Labels Eight, pink layer 6-1/4″ x 4-1/8″, foam tape, white matting layer 5-1/2″ x 3-5/8″, pink layer 5-3/8″ x 3-1/2″, die cut layer using two Wrought Iron die cuts, foam tape, die cut layer using Vintage Labels Four, foam tape, layer using hand cut border on sentiment.  Add Ribbon, Flowers and Pearls.

Becca, this is such an elegant card. I have to ask about your process of mixing and matching all your dies. Do you cut templates of all of your dies so that you can pull them out and rearrage your stacks???? It is amazing (no pun intended) how you manage to always choose just the right sized combos. I have tons of dies, but never seem to be able to pull them all together like you do.

WRBF-Ctrl_Key
Hi there blog friends, yes this picture will need a little bit of explaining :-)  By the way, a time or two today you might see a maintenance sign on my blog, no worries, it will only be up a short bit at a time, so please try back.  Today I’m sharing a quick story that has been a little bit of a private joke in my family.  My grown kids say it is a sign and I chuckle as it comes coincidentally close to the release of the stamp set I showed yesterday called Looking for a Sign.   Not long ago  I was working on my laptop which is shoved back up against my library of dies in clear cases, you know — within arms reach. Several of the cases fell out and hit the laptop. After the mini avalanche I discovered one of my keys was missing.  I looked around my clean craft area and no sight of the missing key — not high — nor low.  I tore up that end of the room looking for the key to no avail.  The key was the Ctrl key and I wondered how I would operate without it.  It drove me crazy  because you know you use the control key for just about everything but over time, I let it go.

It became the joke du jour at home – how ‘I lost control’, the kids would call and ask me if ‘I ever regained control’ and mused, perhaps ‘I didn’t need to have so much control’ :-)  Ha-ha….  For a key to vanish the way it did, I wondered if it was indeed a sign, lol.

Many months later I was working on a project and voila, the control key was found, not buried or underneath something but just as if I had been overlooking it on things I touched every day.  I honestly said a little prayer and thanked the Lord for letting me think about that word in a positive way.  But alas when I went to fix it, the key didn’t pop right back on and resume where it left off – it appears something underneath was broken in the impact so for another month or so the key sat on the edge of my laptop, reminding me how it used to work.

Finally I went out on the internet and found out that you can buy replacement keys.  This week is the first week I’ve had the whole control key situation ‘under control’.  Thankfully during this little humorous situation, I was able to stop for a moment to think about things and put them into perspective.   Control has been a theme threaded through my life many of these last months.  After introspection, I hope I’ve become a better steward of that word.  Just sharing…

Ha…as soon as I started reading today’s post, I immediately thought of yesterday’s card showcased. I think you’re right on track with how everything has played out…it was definitely a sign! How funny about your kids ribbin’ you for losing ‘control’. Thanks for sharing and a reminder to think about ‘control’ in one’s life.ReplyCancel

  • Joan FrickerJuly 31, 2013 - 1:09 pm

Becca, thank for sharing your “story” with us. I think control is hard for most of us, but God reminds me every day when I look out at my gardens that “He” is in control (after all He created all those gorgeous flowers) and I just have to let him be so. I know many of us work on this on a daily basis. You are such a special lady and such a good example to all of us. God bless you my friend!ReplyCancel

HA ha ha Thanks sooo much for sharing your story with us Becca. It sounds exactly like it could´ve happened here in my house, and aslo how my kids would have reacted and got a good laugh of me.
I don´t know, what it is with mothers, but we seems to have a need for being in control always, and feel almost amputated, when we´re not, but maybe it was a sign to say, it´s okay to let loose and let go?? I think, we all should get much better at that.
Good luck with your new controlkey from here now, and thanks for the smile you just puton my face here, it made my day. BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG smile back on you.ReplyCancel

Just sayin’—Have a story regarding lost items also. Many years ago I lost a diamond from my ring. Previously someone had told me that Saint Anthony was the patron saint of lost articles–so I asked him for help in finding it. A few hours later I went to close a window, and sure enough, there lodged in the lace curtain was something sparkling—my diamond! Ever since then, when I lose something, out of my mouth comes “ok, St Anthony, another job for you”, and then I forget about it—and sure enough—the item is found sooner or later (probably because I have erased it from my brain, leaving it wide open for clearer vision). My kids, too, tease me about my “superstition”.ReplyCancel

I just love your story – thank you so much for sharing this amusing tale. Having spent a considerable part of my professional life working with computers/people I can really appreciate the irony of losing your Ctrl key. Now I wonder what would possibly come up had it been the Alt key?ReplyCancel

  • Pat JandacekJuly 31, 2013 - 4:05 pm

Great story that certainly got me to thinking – I’ve never used the Control key and now I wonder just how much I’ve been missing (all these years!)! I’ve got to get someone who knows what they’re doing to explain things to me, I guess. So far I’ve used the method young children use – hit every key there is, something will do what you want…seemingly, anyway. But so far I’ve apparently been using this computer as a typewriter. If I learn to use the Control key will I be able to make cards as beautiful as yours, Becca? lolReplyCancel

Being a “control freak” I can understand the loss… people who use the mouse don’t get it as much – but if you are more of a type/keyboarder it’s essential. I need to let go of more “control” in my entire life and give it to the one who truly should have it! Sometimes I give it to Him but it seems I’m always taking it back. Prayer and growth – and learning to give it up… Thanks for the reminder Becca!ReplyCancel

  • RoseJuly 31, 2013 - 6:41 pm

    Hi Becca,
It would freak me out as well albeit I use my mouse a lot more than the ctrl key. HOWEVER, there are times when one cannot do without it!

I suppose each and every one of us needs a reminder how sometimes we just need to accept and have patience.

    Best wishes, RoseReplyCancel

Well first let me say that I am so electronically challanged that I have never used that ctrl key except 2 or 3 times when my sister told me how to unfreeze my computer. I always feel so dumb compaired to everyone else. I can email, and go to youtube and craigslist and about 3 more places that I am confortable with. I have been learning what little I know in teeny tiny babysteps. When I am 90, I should have it down pat. : )
Now the second thing , what happened to you happened to me only with a pair of tennis shoes. We looked high and low for those shoes for almost two months , on and off. I finally completly gave up on them and then one morning I got up and sitting in the middle of the dining room floor, right smack dab in the middle, there they were just as pretty as a picture. We were all dumb founded and to this day, some 15 years later, we still have no clue how they got there or where they had been. Insert TWILIGHT ZONE music here. Sometimes you just have to wonder …… God bless…DeniceReplyCancel

Funny story, I also like control in my work space always have, I never leave it messed up I always put things back in its right place, that way I know if anyone has been in my area or if anything is missing. I have only one exception to that rule and it is my craft area, I am so tired after creating a cards or scrapbook pages that I leave it there until I come back then it all goes up in its right place and I can start creating again. I think it is okay to want control in our lives, with all the stuff that goes on in the world some control is a good thing. I am not a fanatic about it I can let go of stuff. SO keep that control in your life you deserve it, lots of loveReplyCancel

Great story – normally I am a pretty organised person and everything has a place – but sometimes I move things into ‘safe’ places but I then can’t find them! Drives me mad – a friend has suggested I keep a safe places book – now that is a bit anal me thinks! Anyway I think its something to do with the craft room twilight zone – I have ‘lost’ a smal stamp with SWAK on it – I lost it back in Feb when I was doing the othes half’s Valentines Card – I’ve turned the place upside down to find it – but to no avail – it doesn’t want to be found. One day it will turn up.ReplyCancel

I know , I’m a day late responding, but I have to share with you my story.
I was on vacation in California returning home from Disneyland with my Granddaughter. Driving up the coast back to Washington state; upon arriving home and unpacking I didn’t find my iPod Nano. While unpacking from vacation yesterday I decided to check the front pocket of my suitcase for what reason, I don’t know! I don’t usually put anything in it because it isn’t a user friendly pocket, anyway there was my iPod! That was 2-years ago! Needles to say, I let out a bit of a squeal! I shared with my husband we both laughed, through my happy tears. Then went in and placed it on my charger.
It works great. Thanks for listening!
    Hugs,
    CindyReplyCancel

How funny Becca. Don’t you just love it when the kids (and I use that term lightly – mine are in the 30’s and 40’s), can make jokes about something that occurred like this and has been driving you crazy trying to find it. I don’t know how many times this has happened to me, but you seem to be taking it well. Probably cause you turned it into a positive. I will have to try that one next time. Love your beautiful card.
