Hi there, this is what you get when you start out trying to give someone a simple gift and your mind runs away with you, lol!!  I have a Starbucks Card for a dear friend of mine and while I was getting it, my gaze wandered over the cardboard cozy holders that you get at both Starbucks and I found out later, Panera Bread.   At first I was going to decorate one of the cozy holders and put the gift card inside but then it grew into a book :-)  For the decoration I settled on the wonderful Scripture Sets (Set 1, Set 2, Set 3, Set 4 and Series 1) from Our Daily Bread Designs.  Below you can see the brown from my gift card peeking out from the first page.

I started out by punching holes in the cozies.  Then I decided I wanted a panel that was three inches wide.  Each panel wraps down the frontside with the fold at the bottom and up the backside with the open ends tucked in a glued at the top.  What this does is make a pocket so that I can put something extra inside each page.

I decorated each page back and front with coordinating paper and border punches and stamped Scripture using Scriptures Sets 1,2,3,4 and Scriptures Series 1 onto panels cut with my Slice.
I tucked one more scripture in the pocket of each page.   I put a tab on each tucked in page so that it can easily be removed.

To finish up, I took one of the cozies for a cover.  I hid the Panera logo and added a ribbon just to make it a little bit dressy!  It was not a complicated project at all and once done I was a little bit proud of my recycling effort.  I hope my friend likes it.

Project Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – Scripture Sets 1, 2, 3, 4 and Scripture Series 1, Light
Paper:  K&Company, Bazzill
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black and clear embossing powder
Accessories:  Slice,  Tab Punch, Coffee Cup Cozies, Martha Stewart Border Punches, Binder Rings, Ribbon, Pearls

Thanks for stopping by!!

I’ve been saving the coffee cup cozies from Panera Bread for a long time. I knew they’d make good layers for a card. I’m always keeping my eyes peeled for interesting things to put on my cards. Thanks for the book idea. I hadn’t come up with that idea!ReplyCancel

Becca, this is so clever! I had a several of the “cozies” and finally decided to throw them out, b/c I could not think of how to “gift” them. I’ll start collecting them again when I get coffee and give this project a try!ReplyCancel

  • LucyAugust 31, 2010 - 5:58 pm

I would never of thought of using the cup cosies to make a booklet. That is quite amazing. Did you add a comment that once used it could be returned to you for a refill? Just kidding, but what a wonderful way to surprise your friend. Now she has both the coffee/tea and the scriptures to read while she enjoys her treat. Best way to get a gift!ReplyCancel

A delightful afternoon.  That’s what I had :-)  Just got some new rubber in from Quietfire Designs, rustled up a pot of coffee, gave my favorite guy a peck on the cheek and disappeared into the studio to relax.  I didn’t have long, but long enough to pull this together from one of the beautiful new sentiments that Suzanne has put to rubber.  This card uses the Words of Love sentiment  and even though it can be used for Valentines Day, I made my card for as a Wedding Card instead (with the thought in the back of my mind that I can pull it out for either an anniversary or just an I Love You card).

I wanted a classic look like a black and white tuxedo so I kept things simple.  Just one layer backed by a border and I popped up the Spellbinders Labels Sixteen.  The Flourishing Inside Hearts are also a new Quietfire stamp so I decided to add them as a splash of red.   I’m using a length of organdy you normally get on the wedding aisle that’s about 6 inches wide and it makes for a lovely bow when you fluff it out.  Pearls just didn’t do the job so I dug out some rhinestones.  That’s about it for me today – off to watch a good movie.  Hope you’re having a great weekend too.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Quietfire Design – Words of Love, Flourishing Inside – Hearts
Paper:  Xpedx Brilliant White Cover – 130 lb
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black, Colorbox Pigment Ink – Cranberry
Accessories:  Spellbinders Labels Sixteen,  Martha Steward Border Punch – Layered Arches, Rhinestones, Ribbon, Organdy

Thanks for peeking in on me today.
