Encouragement Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design If You Don
Good morning friends!  Just another quick thought about the written word.  There’s a poem that says, that the scent of the rose always lingers on the hand of the giver, and I mused yesterday about how true that statement is.  Most of my cards are inspirational in nature and I have to admit that by the time I’m done with the card, I feel like I’ve reaped the wisdom of the message.  What a blessing, right?  As you may well imagine, even during the rare store bought card purchase, I stand for hours making sure to pick exactly the right words.  Same with handmade, the selection of the sentiment takes me as long, if not longer, than picking the color.  Today I picked a bold sentiment from Quietfire Design from the If You Don’t Believe in Miracles set.
Encouragement Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design and Spellbinders (closeup)
I’m not going to do a step by step today, but I’ll give you a couple of clues about how this card goes together; it is simpler than it looks.  It’s a regular card base with an embossed background – I used Spellbinders Dainty Dots (Side B).  On top of the embossed background is Spellbinders Grand Ovals cut in half vertically then the cut side of each oval is glued to the edge of the card and the round edges scored and folded in on a diagonal – the resulting piece looks like a diamond.  Both diamond pieces are arranged to meet in the middle.  I cut a matching piece of embossed cardstock into the same diamond shape to line the inside of the oval.  Underneath each of the scored rounded edges I lined with Spellbinders Grand Decorative Oval for the pretty detail.  On top of that I mounted the filigree piece from Spellbinders Tranquil Moments.  Here is a kind of behind the scenes quick look at the piece (I used two)  I put on my card to create the background illusion.
Amazing Paper Grace - Card Tip using Decorative Ovals and Grand Ovals
I thought this was a nifty trick and even if you don’t have the Grands to do it with, scale it down and try it out with the core Spellbinders Circle shapes and some of the decorative circles.  If I get a chance, I’ll whip up a smaller sample for you.

Lovely card and I am not usually a big fan of green! You see had to wear a green school uniform for 12 years so refused to wear green for years. Your card is lovely and what you have done is very clever – love the textures too. Not forgetting the little flower. Igot one of your dies the other day – Justrite Heirloom Flourish Two. It is so pretty and very versatile. Very hot here in the UK – we are not accustomed to such settled weather.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Exquisite Labels Eleven #amazingpapergrace.com
Hi there sweet friends, I have an easy peasy, all die, no measuring card to share with you today.  I was inspired by the sentiment but I wanted to keep it simple.  Three layers, that’s all and since they are staggered, the layer behind them shows off very well.  The sentiment is Wordsworth from a set called the Women Collection – I just adore Louisa May Alcott.WRBF-4364-2014
I used Spellbinders Exquisite Labels Eleven for my card base.  I have a video on how to cut and join each of two pieces for a hinged card – you can see that HERE.  The next layer is the Mediterranean Medallion M-Bossabilities 3D folder, then the upper layer is Spellbinders Valiant Honor.  The flowers are embellished with the petite little leaves and swirls from Spellbinders Sprigs.

Here’s how I made it – step by step:

  1. Cut/emboss two Exquisite Labels Eleven from cream cardstock.  One of the cuts must encase a 1″ horizontal fold in order to make a hinge.  For visual learners see the Hinge Video.
  2. With pink cardstock, emboss Mediterranean Medallion M-Bossibilities 3D Folder and trim around the motif edge with an exacto knife.
  3. Cut/emboss second largest motif from Valiant Honor with cream cardstock.  Stamp with sentiment then attach to Mediterranean Medallion with double foam tape.
  4. Take an 8″ length of  Blossom ribbon to span across card vertically over both layers of Mediterranean Medallion and Valiant Honor, securing on back with tape.  Attach to card base using double foam.
  5. Embellish with pearls and add bow on top of vertical span of ribbon.
  6. Cut/emboss leaf piece of Sprigs with green cardstock, and cut/emboss flourish piece of sprigs with cream cardstock.
  7. Add Sprigs and flowers to bow.

    Hi Becca,

Another absolutely gorgeous card. I have tried this style a number of times but I find it really really hard to get the dies to cut through the creased part because it’s a double layer. Can you tell me if there is a specific type of card you use? You make it look so easy but I’ve tried for hours and hours to get this right and I keep messing it up.

    Hi Becca
As always your card is beautiful! You never cease to amaze me with your talent. I have a question about the cutting of the hinge front if I may please? I have tried cutting card fronts in the way you show in your video however, mine always seem to not quite cut in the double layer of the card. I have tried running through my GC several times but this seems to mess up the card. Do you have any suggestions please that may help to cut the card easier? Perhaps I am using too heavy a card (centura pearl which I believe is around 250 to 300 gsm).
    Best wishes

Thank You Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Celebra
Good morning my crafty friends!!  Did you know that a couple of weeks ago Spellbinders launched new dies?  Well yes, it’s been quite busy in blog land and lucky me, I have some of these new dies in my hot little hands.  So today, I wanted to show you my spin on this bright, cheerful line of papers, inks, stamps, twine and dies that all coordinate.  All the things I used for this card will be in my recipe below but if you want to see the entire collection, pop over and have a look at the entire Celebra’tions line HERE.Thank You Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Celebra
I love to put my spin on whatever I work with and if you’ve been peeking in here around long enough you know it would be a pretty good bet to have some pink.  I started out with this enchanting embossed background called Framed Canvas (already a favorite).  I decided to have a circle frame using Pierced Circles for a focal element and place flowers made from the Just Because set around the edges.  I placed my stamped sentiment from the  My Friend set on the Enhanced Banner set and positioned it just inside the frame.  The matching design paper (Cotton Candy and Celebra’tions Prints), twine (Celebra’tions Linen Thread) and ink (Captivating Coral) pull it all together.  The pearls are from my stash, but sure go a long way towards making the look mine.  So what do you think, my style or not my style?  Lol, this was a lot of fun!!

I think this is very different from your usual creations. I wouldn’t have guessed you made it – and didn’t when I saw it on Pinterest. That being said, it is beautiful! And very cheerful! I like it :DReplyCancel

  • Clare WJuly 21, 2014 - 10:24 am

Yes I like it but for me the becca bow is not dominant enough – I love your doubles and triples in silk ribbon – simply divine – this twine one doesn’t have the same wow factor for me -sorry to say that Becca – just my opinion.ReplyCancel

Though this card is pretty the pinks are so bright that the soft muted tones you usually work would leadd me to think if I saw this elsewhere it wouldn’t be yours. You commented that over 1600 cards later that it is hard to come up with new ideas so I would think that you may be in an experimental stage here. How encouraging to know that I am not alone with the well running dry from time to time. That’s when really great things happen…launching out into something never tried only to find you produced something that brings a smile of accomplishment. I really appreciate the candidacy you share with different moments on your creative journey. We aren’t robots but just people who love to create expressions of beauty in the papercrafting world.ReplyCancel

The card IS lovely, working within the constraints of the materials you needed to use. Yes, you put on your own spin with the design, but I don’t think it quite fits your style. Still it is a cheery card, and a great design.

I love this look Becca!! So fresh and cheery. AND, it’s a look that isn’t intimidating :) I can see the ‘need’ to collect all the new line, just as in the past. You rock what happens to land in your hot hands!! :) TFS your new look.ReplyCancel

I must agree with those who are nay-sayers here! While the flowers and the pearls are Definitely true Becca, the card just misses for me. :-( I always love your delicate elegance and subtle use of color and this is NOT tha way. I do applaud your venturing out of your usual box and we all need to do that once in awhile but that being said, please, please go back to the REAL you! I have only glanced briefly at the new Spellbinders Celebra’tions and my jury is still out. I plan to try some of the papers and dies, etc. and will get back to you with my opinion. I may be just “old” and “traditional” but some of this just shouts at me! But thanks for “listening” to my little rant here!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca from cold and wet New Zealand. I absolutely love this card, it’s a little bit different from your normal style but still has all the “Becca” elements – the pink, the bling and the bow. Yes it’s a new you. xReplyCancel

serious question: Becca, I just purchased from JustRite the Vintage Filigree Layers Dies. AG02039. the picture shows four layers. But there are only two dies. A large one and the middle. they do not separate into four dies. How do you get these layers, that is pictured on the product? I want to use them for my holiday cards… …hope you can help. with tutorial. I am a visual learner. as use dies a lot, but this one is a puzzle…..hope you can help. thank you soooo much.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
Although it is a beautiful card, in my humble opinion, it does not fit your profile. You did bring class to these products, being that they seem somewhat juvenile for me, not that that is bad, it’s just not your delicate, gorgeous, elegance. I did view the roll-out, but was not too terribly impressed with the products…too much similarity to other vendors…it was cute at best, but again, it is my humble opinion.ReplyCancel

Yep, definitely one of your cards, lol. It seems as if Spellbinders are branching out with all the accessories to compliment their dies. More stuff for us to hanker after, but my cash will only go so far.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, I love your cards so much. Hope to hear from you soon on my serious question because it was a die you have designed. It would have so many possibilities., I want to use it correctly. Maybe doing a card with the die hear and a tutorial would help to see the process….thanks for your inspiration and fabulous creations.ReplyCancel
