Tutorial by Becca Feeken - How to Add Borders to your Die Cuts with a Minc Machine - www.amazingpapergrace.comTutorial by Becca Feeken - How to Add Borders to your Die Cuts with a Minc Machine - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Hello there friends, I’ve been busy :-)  First of all {enabler alert}, this week I will begin showing you my new dies!  Stay tuned!  In the interim, today I have two videos to show you and a new tool (actually I purchased mine earlier this year) to show you that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with.  I’ve decided to add it to my every day repetoire but didn’t dare use it here on the blog until I could experiment around with it enough and also wanted to be ready for questions.  It may be your cup of tea or you may like doing things the manual way – I’m tickled to share this because it makes my life easy.
My card today uses the Minc Machine to add borders.  Until now, this was a messy and not always successful venture using ink.  I’m stoked to know that I can produce consistent results this way, and it works for me!  For my card I’m using a stunning sentiment called Give Thanks by Quietfire Design.  I’ve mounted into on a panel cut with Spellbinders 5 x 7 Matting Basics B.  The label shaped that I’ve bordered and added as a frame and to hold my sentiment is Spellbinders Labels Forty Nine.  I dollied that arrangement up with some silk and lace and a couple of flowers from Spellbinders Blooms One.

Want to know more?  My first video (above) short and simply goes over the Minc Machine and how it works.  My second video is a technique you won’t want to miss – this will get you well on your way to adding professional borders to you die cuts!

I’ve had a machine with similar abilities like yours but have ‘t used it much cause Ive been chicken! So I am so hoping to learn to use it more from your tutorials. I too have a frustrating time getting my Krylon pen to work consistently around all the borders. Christmas is coming and typically I love to use gold elements so I’m excited, Becca to see what you come up with!!ReplyCancel

I would LOVE to own a Minc.. I have a lot of use for adding foils.. but.. my printer does not use toner. *Tears*

A side note.. I”m loving the new pocket I saw…. can’t wait to see what you post here.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, I’ve just ordered the smaller Minc, since I have a larger size of another type of heat laminator. Enjoyed this video and looking forward to seeing what you do with the die cuts. Looks like I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and get a laser printer to go with the 3 ink jet ones. Always some new toy to have, yes? I know you’ll be doing some fabulous things with this gold foiling. What elegance it adds to your already elegant style of cards. Hope all is well. Blessings.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, just bought a Minc and also a laser printer on the weekend. Haven’t had a chance to take either out of their boxes yet. I am really looking forward to seeing all the wonderful ideas you have to use it. My timing looks like it was perfect for this purchase.ReplyCancel

You’re a GENIUS!!!! Absolutely love how you came up with a way to add foil borders to dies. I’ve always painted the borders with metallic paints but I don’t have a very steady hand so they usually come out a bit messy. Your technique is perfect and can’t wait to try it. Thanks so much for sharing and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos.ReplyCancel

I HAVE A MINC!!! I purchased it online but due to my health issues, I have hardly used it. (One thing about online shopping, you can shop even lying flat on your back in bed!) I did open my MINC when it arrived and tried it out to make sure it worked and that I liked it. I definitely thought I would be fully recovered by now and having fun with it but I’m doubly excited about using it after watching your awesome tutorial.

I had NO IDEA you could add borders to die cuts or that I could make copies of my dies at home and take them to the office supply store. I thought you had to go to the office supply to do it ALL plus the whole die thing is awesome! I suspect I will get a laser copier once I’m recovered but knowing I can enlist my wonderfully supportive/helpful hubby to copy some dies at home is AMAZING! We can get them “lasered” the next time I have a doctor appointment (which is at least once a week). My mind is running with the POSSIBILITIES! Small things make me super happy (God has taught me so much through this accident!) so I’m over the moon excited, Becca. You just made my day..no week…no month…just feeling happy because I love all things that SPARKLE!

You know…blessings come from unexpected places. I was blessed by BECCA today!

    Thank you!ReplyCancel

Wonderful videos. Thank you so much for doing them. I could not figure out how to “like” them. What happened to the thumb icons on the video to click on to “like” or “not like”. I purchased an AG Minc machine earlier this year. I used it once and realized I needed more foil. And then I managed to “kill” my laser printer running a too thick of a piece of card stock through my printer. I have not gotten it repaired yet. I’m still trying to find a place to take my laser copier to get it fixed. Seems there is not a repair place near were I live. It never dawned on me that I could minc die borders. Becca, you are some kind of genius! This is a great look for the edges of the die cuts. I enjoyed seeing you in these videos. And I especially enjoyed your sweet, calming voice. I think I would even enjoy listening to you read the phone book! Please do more videos.ReplyCancel

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Roman Romance M-Bossabilities, Spellbinders A2 Curved Borders Two - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning Friends!  I’m happy to say that I’m all caught up on my shipping.  If you have been waiting on a card from me, it’s on the way!!!  There are a few internationals that may take a bit longer but they are on the move.  Also, I’m all caught up on emails – I had quite a backlog.   The weeks are whizzing by and I know you all will so appreciate me saying only 69 more sleeps until Christmas.  In the meantime we’re back to Day of Giving Friday and I’m tickled to share what was one of my very favorite cards to make. If you are new to my blog – you can find info about Day of Giving on my FAQ List at #11.

I love tone on tone and all cream or all white are simplicity at it’s most elegant best!  To create is to touch the spirit – I’ve found that again and again and from the sweet emails where you share what crafting means – I would venture to say many of you feel the same way.   No everyone is a crafter but we know how how peaceful and empowering it is to create.

For your comment today, if a non-crafter in your world would agree to sit down and create with you – who would you want to share your gift with.   I have to share this time, so you’ll see I put my thoughts in the first comment.

Oh my! I absolutely adore this stunning card! The tone on tone coloring combined with texture from the fabulous embossing folder and die cut layers and you have a card that says “elegance!” I believe this card is among my favorite and can see why you enjoyed creating it. It’s beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!

I would love to share crafting with my sister, Sharon. We have been very close our entire lives even though we’ve lived in different states for nearly 30 years. We are a year and a day apart in age so I think that would naturally draw us close but it has been our love combined with a shared faith that has caused our relationship to grow closer as the years have passed. My sister is creative and artistic but she isn’t a crafter. More than 40 years ago, we took a class together to make a wall decor project using quilting techniques. I know we both enjoyed the class because it was time spent together but Sharon didn’t enjoy the project like I did. I would love to spend uninterrupted time with her just exploring different crafts to find something that sparks her creativity. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for 44 years (he has been my best guy friend since junior high school). Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers 7 years ago. These last 7 years have taken their toll on both my rapidly declining brother-in-law and on my sister. My heart breaks as they bravely face many challenges each day and do so with a grace that can only come from God. It would be such a blessing to be able to sit with Sharon and take her away from life’s worries by sharing my love of crafting with her, even if the time was limited. I’ve learned a lot about how precious time is so any time would be quality time together.

God bless you Becca. You bring such inspiration to so many. I can only say “thank you” even though those words hardly begin to express my thankfulness. Thank you Becca!ReplyCancel

  • Kathy mOctober 16, 2015 - 7:40 am

More of the oldest ones has left it again, as they discovered boys, but I have a very biiig hope, that I´ve managed to create the joy for crafting in them and they´ll come back to it some day, as they get more settled, but all the smaller girls and also the 2 boys are still very often guests here in my craftroom, and I absolutely love it.ReplyCancel

I so love this beautiful card! In answer toyour question it would have to be my wonderful mum who set me on the route of embroidery, sewing, knitting and crochet. The year before she died she was staying with us around September time and when I was crafting she asked if she could make a card. She went on to make about 20 Christmas cards, very simple, but she was so pleased – and I was so proud of her!!! I actually took a picture of her sitting behind the table with all her cards in front of her and she had a beaming smile!!!! A lovely memory! Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

Stunning card with a beautiful bow. I’d love to teach anyone that WANTS to sit and learn. I’ve had my son and daughter and 1 brother sit down and watch from start to finish. These were Copic colored cards and they loved seeing the process and were stunned at the amount of time it took. So, it makes it that much sweeter for them when they receive a card.ReplyCancel

Becca, I have to tell you how much I love looking at your lovely creations! I love to go window shopping. I don’t have to buy anything, just looking at pretty things lifts my spirits. Now I don’t even have to go out of my house as I can just peruse your blog and find oodles of lovelies that just make me sigh with pleasure! Thanks!!
If I could sit down and share my crafting with someone it would be my mother and my aunt. Crafting calms me and I believe it would them, too, if they’d make time for it.ReplyCancel

my mom, because paper crafting can be as easy or hard as you want to make it. she use to get so flustered by things that needed to be put together. as I got older we would hint about what we got each other for Christmas and I really had her going when I told her there were 24 pieces that she had to put together. I gave her many other clues but that one she kept on asking about and she begged me to do it for her. of course I declined. which frustrated her even more. I kept saying that I KNEW she could handle it. as it turned out imagine her surprise when it was a dozen pots with saucers. boy did I have her going. so it would be fun with all the tricks out now to make a card with her.ReplyCancel

She used to comment on the beautiful cards I always bought her (I would spend hours in card shops). I think she would be even prouder of the cards I’m creating now. I wish she were here so I could make cards for her.ReplyCancel

I would say my mom. She desperately needs a hobby other than going garage saleing all the time. When younger, she was very creative with sewing and ceramics. Now at almost 79, she shops whenever she can (rarely buys anything though), and reads and watches the news and weather. I would love more creative conversation with her.

I have been a fan of yours for years and thought I would never be able to create a card that was even close to being as beautiful as your cards. My non-crafter would have to be my grandmother. She was not a papercrafter, but she was a quilter, and loved to make things with her hands. She LOVED to receive cards. She’s the reason that I make cards now…to bring others the joy and comfort that she gained from receiving them when she was sick. She showed me how to cook, sew, and stop to smell the roses. I know she would be proud that I make things with my hands, even if it’s not a quilt. And, she would have the patience to learn to make cards with me. This is so lovely! Lovin’ that triple bow!

I have in fact shared my love of crafting with many non-crafter’s in my life…..My mother-Got her started making jewelry, my sweet sister-in-laws Ruthi and Maureen and niece Tiffy–We made Glittered Potpourri Wreaths on paper plates. Been trying to teach my Sis-in-law Maureen how to read a pattern but she does not have the patience for it so I told her to go to Youtube and look for videos that show her how to crochet certain stitches instead as she is more of a visual learner.

But if I could teach one more person it would have been my best Church friend who died from Breast Cancer Gayle Barry. I miss her dearly. Infact I have not been to church in a very long time (3 years) due to it being so hard to not have her greet me and pray with me for my husband and me.

You are such an inspiration to me Becca. I love your strength in your weakness, your vulnerability which is rare in this world these days. Thank you for being such a Blessing to us all (((hugz)))ReplyCancel

what a lovely card. Love the tone on tone and the dies that u used. It is truly beautiful. It is hard for me to pick one person, but if my grandmother were still living it would be her, she meant the world to me, and practically was my second mother. I did not start crafting cards until she had passed. So she did not receive one of my handmade cards. Happy Friday, Becca,
Wow, this card is hardly simplicity but is most certainly “at its most elegant best”! The design of the card echoes the spiritual connection expressed by the sentiment. Heavenly!

My mom is gone now, but she always told people she didn’t have talent. So not true! Can you imagine how much creativity she had to have to meet the needs of seven children? She had the most beautiful handwriting in the world and a poetic soul, I’m sure my love for the written word came directly from her. I would love to show her that creating something beautiful has less to do with the artist in your head and more about the love in your heart.

Love & Blessings to you, our dear sweet Becca,

Gorgeous Card!!! So Elegant. I love to craft, but do not have any adult family members who craft. I wish my daughter enjoyed crafting, as we are close and enjoy so many other interests. But, she is a working Mom, raising twin 5 yr old daughters who consume her time as it should be. While she is at work, I fill in with the twins and have since they were born. Besides crafting, they are the love of Grandpa’s and Grandma’s life and they really love crafting and making things with me. I think they are both turning into great little crafters who seem to really enjoy paper crafting. It makes crafting even more enjoyable for me.

Beautiful card today, I love it, I want it. I would love to see it in person, I have the perfect spot for it. I have 2 people I would love to create cards with–one would be my dad who passed away in 2002 from Alzheimer’s. He loved to work with wood and made table lamps, tables, Christmas ornaments, etc. He also loved to paint by number. He passed away before I started “playing with paper”. Actually, he’s the reason I started. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer and my mother was having a hard time dealing with his illness. I went to the mall where there was a craft show. There was a lady with a heat gun, a maple leaf stamp and embossing powder. That’s all it took, I was hooked! That was in 1998. I can see him coloring with my copic markers.
The other person is my granddaughter who is expected to arrive the first of December. My daughter-in-law would take classes with me before my grandson was born, so I am looking forward to sharing my love of crafts with her from “playing with paper” to quilting and anything in between. My two sons and husband love to restore antique tractors/machinery and don’t enjoy my love of paper, yarn, and fabric.ReplyCancel

She is gone now but we both loved the soft feminine touch. We once did make a card together but it was using some pressed flowers that I did. Only to have her back and sharing fun sister things together. I miss her so much!!!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, This card is a variation of your previous card that makes my top 5 list and not at the bottom of that short list. Just beautiful–this one is shorter but just as dramatic. Such a beauty. Thanks. For the life of me I can’t think of a non-crafter I would want to craft with–maybe sit and drink coffee together. I want you across from me so I can watch you work–that’s much better than a novice. BarbaraReplyCancel

I would love to craft with my daughter-in-law. Right now she is raising our twin granddaughters (2 yr olds), so time/energy is at a premium. I’d love to pass crafting to the twins by passing it to their mom first. It is such a tension reliever and a feeling of accomplishment. Her job of parenting is a long one that often feels like it is never going to end.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, This card is stunning, the curved die-cut shaping is fabulous and the triple bow is truly beautiful. I love it !!
If it was possible I would love for my Mum to sit down and craft with me, she taught me on her old treddle Singer sewing machine how to make clothes, and how to knit and how to embroider, and I thank her to this day for her teaching me how to do these beautiful things. Sadly she had passed away when I was introduced to papercrafting and started to make my own cards, she would have loved to see all the fabulous creations and would be absolutely amazed at what we can all achieve nowadays. I wish she could sit with me !! God Bless her.
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

The card is so beautiful – I ordered the curve borders so I could make one. I have not done tone on tone yet but now I have a reason why. I would sit with one of the women at the Y. She is always so appreciative of the cards that I would like to show her how it is done. Thanks for the beautiful cardReplyCancel

    Becca,

My goodness this is just gorgeous! And I know someone who would be absolutely thrilled to receive this in the mail. She has really had a tough time the past year and recently came down with a very serious case of Shingles. So much so, that she has complete stopped stamping and uploading cards to her SCS gallery. She loves to create monochromatic cards and she is so missed.

Now, to answer your question. It would be my mother who passed away many years ago. She was a creative soul who was way beyond her years. Let me step back in time. My step-father always picked the Christmas tree (a live one). And it had to be one that was flocked with that white stuff (she laughs). One year my mother decided she was going to change things up (I loved her spunk). Enter my sisters and I – screen door slamming behind us as we stopped in our tracks bumping into one another. There was our mother standing beside a Charlie Brown Christmas tree with branches very wide apart (you couldn’t put lights on it). She had bundled three beautiful Christmas bulbs and hand-tied them with gorgeous red bows and placed them strategically on the end of each sparse branch (she stood there so proud with a look like — well?). WE WERE SPEECHLESS! My step-father was Horrified! *hahahaha* It’s a memory I love to this day! She was my hero! A creative spirit that was free to be.

    Hugs,
    Susie ~

    Good afternoon Becca,
I loved this card the very first time you showed it and after looking at it many times since it still gives me that same feeling, the sense of just how peaceful and calming it looks and just how beautiful you can something from a simple start. I started my friend of into the world of creating and crafting just recently with the gift that i couldn’t be without now….my grand calibur. I promised her my old one when i got a new machine only mines was broken when i went to give it and couldn’t. Not wanting to break a promise i got the chance of a new one without plates or handle for a small sum of money. She got it on Wednesday and the joy in her eyes as she seen what i had brought for her was a fantastic gift to me. I have already got her some of my doubles that i have in dies and have been buying her inspirational packs that have freebies in it to encourage her. She called me up on Saturday to ask about embossing but i wish you could have her the happiness in her voice, that is what makes it so joyful for me having brought some happiness to someone that couldn’t have got it for herself. She started as a non crafter that i met at my work and because i need a bit of help she agreed to come with me to a craft show in Glasgow. That first show was 5years ago and last year i got her to sit in a make and take workshop with me which she really enjoyed but it was in March when i introduced her to die cutting at the show that she beamed with pride at making a beautiful card all by herself hence the reason for me giving her a GC all of her own. She has such a sweet heart that lifts me up when i am down, she listens when i just need someone to speak to and she is there in an instance when i just can’t get up so she is who i would share a gift with without hesitation. Thank you Becca for the beauty that your lovely heart brings to us and lifts us up when we need it most.
    Love and crafty hugs

Dear Becca, I love the white on white card. It is so elegant. I love to create with my grandchildren. They are very young and I hope to establish in them the love of crafting and what fun things they can make. Usually within 5 minutes of coming in the house they are tugging at my shirt and asking to go to the crafting room. Saving scraps for their special basket helps their creative spirit soar. Friendship Card Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Oval Regalia, Spellbinders Labels Forty Nine, Spellbinders Standard Circles LG, Spellbinders Victorian Tags - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends!  I think I’ve been quiet – not intentional, just the ebb and flow of life.   I can tell that personally I’ve reached a crossroad where I’m okay, in fact I’m more okay than I can ever remember.  What that has created inside is a need to organize and plan, so that’s what I’ve been doing. This may be TMI but last week I tackled cleaning my walk-in closet from top to bottom.  That sounds innocent enough but in reality I was fearful of the memories I would find there. Consider that almost five years ago I couldn’t even bear to be in my own bedroom – now it is being redecorated and the closet yielded the most indescribable ‘good’ treasures – it  was literally a time capsule.

Absolutely everything came out and about half went back in.  I have a room full of donations and that makes me feel good.  I’m almost embarrassed to say how many new things I found.  As I tackled the behemoth I mused how much this is like real life – the old things that are tattered and torn than need to be set aside, the treasures we find that are right under our noses but we didn’t know were there, the points where we are honest with ourselves (did I every really own that?) and the serenity of knowing that you had the strength to put things into place.  That closet makes me feel new and gives me such hope and optimism.  Such a simple thing but an experience full of blessings.  Has this ever happened to you?  Friendship Card Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Oval Regalia, Spellbinders Labels Forty Nine, Spellbinders Standard Circles LG, Spellbinders Victorian Tags - www.amazingpapergrace.com
That great feeling brought me to the craft table with a burst of inspiration.  I’ve had dies setting aside that I wanted to use and I was taken with the beauty of a new Spellbinders Victorian Crosses set.  These are substantial; they are large enough to be a bold focal element.  I layered the cross over Spellbinders Oval Regalia that I had topped with Spellbinders Labels Forty Nine.  I needed something tiny and special so I created my own tag by using Spellbinders Standard Circles LG and Spellbinders Victorian Tags.Friendship Card Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Oval Regalia, Spellbinders Labels Forty Nine, Spellbinders Standard Circles LG, Spellbinders Victorian Tags - www.amazingpapergrace.com

    Hi Becca,
Sometimes we just need to close our eyes and do, what we´ve been avoidiing for so long, and just to find out afterwards, that it was actually the best thing we´ve done in a long time, and from there probably came the inspiration to make this amazingly beautiful card here. It is sooo fabulous and amazing, and really show me, that you´ve puit soo much thoughts into this, and the result surte shows, that you´re feeling really good with yourself now, and that´s just fantastic. I´ve always loved your stunning work, but this kind of tops it all to perfection. I just love it.

Hi Becca, Just lovely! Sometimes featuring a cross on a card makes the look too religious and misses the comfort and personal closeness of the cross’s meaning but your adaptation overcomes that. Joyful, beautiful, and speaks volumes. What a spectacular contribution to your talented offerings. Thanks so much. Your work in the ‘closet’ puts me to shame but also motivates me. What a lovely card! It is so elegant. I have not followed you that long, but love the things you make. I am guessing from your blog that you have really achieved something wonderful by re-organizing and cleaning out–GOOD for YOU! I need to do the same. I lost my husband in November 2014 and this whole last year has been about surviving with my two little girls and beginning to go through things and letting go some of the things that are no longer needed. It has been hard looking at old photos and remembering times that noone else but my husband and I remembered. Now, I am the only left to remember those things. It seems that the world has a way of taking away those things when his name starts to be taken off of the bill for this utility or that one. It is so strange to meet people now—who never knew that my husband was such a big part of my life for over 20 years. I love your description of the “time capsule”…that seems so true when I go downstairs in my basement and see the boxes of things…pictures, etc. that bring back visions of the past. Thank you for sharing so much of your heart and soul in the beautiful cards you make and the gentle words in your blog.ReplyCancel

So glad you have found yourself feeling okay. :) We are always okay in our Father’s eyes and we just have to work through it sometimes. Woohoo for a clean and organized closet and redecorating! I’m a fan of cleaning and donating clothing if I haven’t worn it in a year. I actually switch out summer and winter clothing and turn the hangars backwards. That’s how I know if I actually wore something or not. If the hangar didn’t get turned then most likely it’s out! Enjoy your redecorated space!ReplyCancel

  • Norah McPheeOctober 13, 2015 - 3:37 am

    Good morning Becca,
I am so glad that you found renewed peace and a new sense of happiness from your closet clean. It i know is so hard to even think of starting it just because of the memories that it would hold. I lost my best friend last year in my mum who was as sharp as a tack and could sting like a bee which considering she was just over 4stone nothing would hold her back. I can understand your thoughts only through me trying to go through my beloved mum’s things. I found our dancing shoes from when we went Scottish Country dancing in and it brought back memories of us managing to end up in a heap on the floor as we were left handed and some how always went the wwrong way which was fine until it came back and we would bang into the rest of the troop and we would all end up in a pile. I think they were relieved when we stopped going as there wasn’t so many injuries sustained by them. Yes, i had a few laughs but oh so many tears as she wasn’t here to share in the laughter.
Your time spent was worthwhile and brought it’s own rewards to you in that you only have half as much now so you don’t feel guilty if you see something new that you just have to have, lol. Your card that you have made is beautiful Becca with the large cross on it and would make a great card for oh so many ocassions. My friend who is an avid church goer to a small church in Stirling(Scotland) has been trying to come up with ways to raise funds for his church, so i said i would make up some Christmas cards for them to sell with donations going to the church and this cross would make such a beautiful statement on these cards amongst other more light hearted ones for the children. Thank you Becca for another inspiring, stunning piece of work.

BECCA, I THINK I TURN TO YOU FOR THE PHILOSOPHY, AS MUCH AS THE ART-BOTH SPECK TO ME. MY CLOSETS (ONE IN NY .AND ONE IN FL.)ARE BOTH IN NEED OF SOME “DOWNSIZING” BUT I AM A STINGY OPTIMIST- A “MAYBE I WILL NEED THAT SOMEDAY” PERSON. AND, OH YES, MAYBE I WILL LOSE 20 POUNDS SO THAT WILL FIT ME.
I HOPE SPELLBINDERS APPRECIATES YOU. YOU REALLY ARE BEHIND A LOT OF MY BUYING DECISIONS AS FAR AS DIES GO. THERE IS SO MUCH OUT THERE THAT IT IS HARD TO DECIDE WHERE TO PUT MY MONEY. THANKS FOR THE BEAUTY.ReplyCancel

love the card, but I can surely relate especially last summer and even now Liz and I have been going through our parents things. It was unbelievable some of the things our mother saved but brought back lots of memories. We found letters she had written to my father she saved every card ( I do believe) she had ever gotten. Unfortunately we could not save them all but I did save the ones I made her and my dad. I have to admit I was just as bad!! My only regret is I wish I had found some of this while she was still living. Thanks for sharing
    hugs
