Christmas Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design Tiny Christmas Wishes and Spellbinders Blooming Collection, Spellbinders Triple Floral - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends!  I thought I would take an about turn with colors and meander through the cool tones of winter with slate blue, cool white and silvery accents.  The drum of Christmas is in the distance so a Christmas card was the order of the day.  I started out with Spellbinders Reindeer and Sleigh – the reindeer is so elegant.  The backdrop I used is two cuts, tilted and overlapped using Spellbinders Blooming Collection.  On top of that I added a square cut with Spellbinders Triple Floral then on top of that I added a silver element using Spellbinders Classic Squares LG.   It just so happened that I could pull through the edges of the Blooming Collection Motif that was on the bottom and it sits just above my square for a frilly accent behind the reindeer.  To finish, I added a bow, some little pearls and a sweet little holiday sentiment from Quietfire Design from the Tiny Christmas Wishes set using Spellbinders Petite Pennants.

Christmas Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design Tiny Christmas Wishes and Spellbinders Blooming Collection, Spellbinders Triple Floral - www.amazingpapergrace.com
I love the look of the tilted square and decided even though it makes the card wider that I’ll use an oversized envelope or padded envelope for sending. I may try this one again trimming the corners of the square flush with the edges :-)

Very creative! Looks like you wrapped the Blooming Collection cut around the rectangular cut, which looks very cool especially with the silver. Also it looks like you cut a second reindeer in silver and used the cutout pieces to fill in the white deer. Very impressed with your techniques in this one! I love it!ReplyCancel

As always, this is just stunning! The 2 tones on the reindeer are awesome! As always, soo elegant. I have a question please. I really like making 5×7 cards. Do you have any recommendations for paper to make the envelopes out of? I think card stock is a little bit too thick but in order to get a piece of paper large enough to make the envelop, I have only been able to find 12×12 cardstock. Do you have any suggestions on what I can use that is large enough, to make envelopes? Thank you for any suggestions that you may have.ReplyCancel

Oh, Becca! I just love this card. I ventured out to Hobby Lobby today just to get the gold poster board that you frequently use. I guess I need to get some silver now! Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Write Your Hurts In the Sand and Spellbinders Rose Creations - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweet friends!  Can I just gush and say that I found out last weeks Day of Giving Card is destined for Africa – waving hi to Carol!  (My first to Africa although many to the UK, Spain, Canada and Australia).   What a blessing that through our craft we reach out to friends all over the world.  As I sit to my desk this morning someone is putting the final touches on a handmade card half the world away.  What a joy!  So today is Day of Giving Friday and a new card to give away (if you are new you can read about Day of Giving Friday on my FAQ List at #11).  I heard a quote yesterday that I think applies to you all as people and crafters – “Talk to yourself like you talk to someone you love”.  I heard it in a speech I was listening to and it was earth-shattering!  We all put ourselves out there every time we create a card and sometimes were not so kind to ourselves.  Make no mistake – there’s something special, beautiful and unique that each of you bring to your craft that is your personal signature.  Be sure to explore that something special, and don’t compare it to anyone else – that’s your thing – it’s your blessing.  I can’t tell you how much you all have touched my life – you’re my buddies and I know the beauty that lives in the gracious souls that stop here and that I chat with behind the scenes.  Gush!!

For your comment today:  Be brave, tell me what you love about your card own style.  If you’re shy, you don’t have to answer but remember – talk to yourself like you talk to someone you love :-)

Can I just tell you as I go through the bins to pull cards for Day of Giving, it’s like hunting treasure.  It immediately brings back memories of when I made the card.  Todays card is so appropriate for the post I’ve written.  And it makes me feel wonderful to see it will go to someone to use.  For me this blessing is written in stone :-)

I guess what I love about my card style is that the people who receive them just love them. They smile, study it, share it with others, ask questions about how it was made. It makes them happy, which also makes me happy!

Gorgeous card… love the arched window. Plan to use this die on some Christmas cards.
I absolutely love butterflies and put one (or more) on almost every card I do. It may only be a tiny one up in a corner, or maybe on the inside, but 95% of my cards have one somewhere. Also love lots of bling so my cards tend to be a bit glitzy.ReplyCancel

Today is my birthday and I would love to receive this.

What I love about my card making is knowing that someone will appreciate that I went to the trouble to create a handmade card just for them. It does my heart good when someone calls me to say thank you and how much they appreciated me taking time to make a card just for them. I love to make people feel good. There is so much violence and hatred in this world, we all need a ray of sunshine occasionally.ReplyCancel

Becca, your words today are so very sweet, which is why we love you so much!! I have really loved your thought-provoking questions and today’s question is another good one. I really had to sit and think–what do I love about my style? I think I love that my style is adaptable. Even though my favorite thing is bling and glitter, I’m learning new techniques and can actually put together a more clean and simple card from time to time. I do have to hold myself back though to stop and not add the pretties! lol!ReplyCancel

What a beautiful card and sentiment. I really needed that message today. How lovely that your card is on its way to Africa. Your wonderful talent is certainly circling the globe. It is such fun to communicate with other card makers from around the world. With the wonders of the internet it’s like they are right across the street. I can’t really say I have a style. Although I tend to make more CAS cards, I do enjoy creating more elaborate cards once in a while. I love to share my cards and it always makes my day when someone tells me how much they enjoyed receiving my hand made card.ReplyCancel

  • marylouhSeptember 18, 2015 - 10:34 am

I lean towards whimsical cards. I like fun designs.
I don’t like gushy sentiments – just plain and simple.
My cards aren’t very frilly – though I love to see cards that are embellished to the max.
This card is beautiful. The design would make a great wedding card.
    thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel

Boy, isn’t this sentiment TRUE! You find THE MOST inspiring sentiments Becca! AND you put them to SUCH LOVELY WORK!!!! ;) Your card today is GORGEOUS!!!!! It COULD BE a WEDDING CARD! ;)

As for your question, I just go with the flow of what I think my stamp & sentiment call for. Although, VINTAGE is my chosen style.ReplyCancel

Love the card and love that sentiment—it is a must have! My card style is “simple elegance”. I’m a perfectionist crafter rather than a designer although when I do design (which hurts my head) I can design a card that no matter how many times I go back to it, I love it and am very proud of it.ReplyCancel

Oh my word this is absolutely gorgeous!! I just love it Becca. I tens to keep my cards pastel and I love to use dies, ribbon, lace etc. However the most important thing to me is to use a beautiful sentiment or quote. If I don’t have the right stamp for the person who will be receiving my card I surf the internet until I find a quote that fits and then computer generate it. I think friends would probably say my trademark is my sentiment. Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

Absolutely gorgeous card and love the sentiment. It is something that I will definitely bring into my life. I have such varied card styles as I send to children and adults. However, I love elegant cards, try to tailor make them and want the person receiving them to go “wow” when they receive them. It takes me a long time to create a card as I am a perfectionist and don’t like to send anything out that is just ok. Thanks for the opportunity to win this beautiful card and have a great weekend.ReplyCancel

Good morning. What I love about my card style is that the card is beautiful. I love beautiful things. Most of my cards have flowers and I love flowers. I love the way it makes me feel when I am finished making the card and also the reaction of the recipient. I love that I make their day. The card blesses me when I make it and blesses the recipient when they receive it.ReplyCancel

I suppose it has something to do with being a Gemini baby! LOL! My style changes a lot, because I see so many great ideas want to try everything. So I guess that would sum me up as eclectic! Thanks sweetheart for giving me inspiration to tell myself I love me. Something I never do and chastise myself a lot, but I know one thing. My Lord & Savior, Jesus loves me and that is what counts the most. Hugs LoriReplyCancel

  • Kim HaygoodSeptember 18, 2015 - 11:21 am

This card is stunning–absolutely stunning! The lace is a beautiful touch and adds such texture. I think the thing I like about the cards that I make are their elegance, but also simplicity. Everyone who sees them says that I should sell them, but I do not make the time to make cards very often lately. I have tons of supplies and need to organize them and get them in a state they can be used. You know the feeling you have when you eat too much at a banquet? That is how it is with my craft items. I became a single mom this past year when my husband of 20 years passed away. My daughters are young 6 and 2, and although the oldest one loves cardmaking, they are a little young to share the hobby with me yet. I hope they will in time. I rarely keep cards that I make because I make them to give away and use as gifts. One of the things that I hope makes the cards that I make special, is the love that comes with them. I can see the love that goes into the cards you make and know the recipients must feel that when they open the card!ReplyCancel

Love this card! Perfect for a wedding or christening. Trust that it will be copied ?
I would say my style is clean and simple, but I love to shake it up for special events. I’m always seeing the flaw in a card, but when friends want to raid my stash or ask for a special card, it gives my soul a hug. I will print the verse for today and place it in a spot where I’ll see it daily.
Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs, DianaReplyCancel

My style isn’t what I’d like it to be. I am pretty basic in the cards I make, but I’d love to be able to make the amazing cards like you make. I just don’t have the ability to see all the pieces together like you do. So my cards don’t convey like I’d like them to. But, in the same aspect, I don’t have the ability to make the cards like you do because I don’t have all the dies like you have; nor could I afford to have all the dies like you have.ReplyCancel

I love that I can individualize every card I make. I try to match the card to the person I’m making it for as well as the occasion. My style is a little more blingy. That is just my personality. Sometimes, though, I go more simple. It depends on who the receiver is. Thanks so much for continuing the Day of Giving. I have really enjoyed participating and look forward to it each week. Beautiful card with all the lace and the pearls. My style of card making is simple. At least I call it simple. Once in a while I go outside the norm. Like the other day I FINALLY made a shaker card. I had the worst time with it. I looked on YouTube for a really clear cut example of how to make one and couldn’t find much. Oh wow! What an absolutely stunning card and beautiful sentiment today! My style? Mmmm…I love adding flowers to my cards & enjoy the challenge of trying to get them as realistic as possible. Other than that, I make frilly, lacy feminine cards (I don’t think I could ever do a CAS card! LOL). I spend A LOT of time on my cards, & like to make them into something that can be displayed so that they bring joy & encouragement for a long time. That’s why my main cardfront sentiment is usually a Scripture verse that I create on my computer which is relevant to the recipient. Thanks for making me think about my style & why I create the way I do xxReplyCancel

I don’t have a ‘signature style’ like you do. Wish I did. I cannot zero in on a single style. I am all over the place in what I like. It would be like asking me what my favorite color is and I could never change my answer. Just too many cool ones to pick from. Your style is right up towards the top, though! Your blog is the only one I consistently read and look at. I used to have many, but it was overwhelming, so when my email changed a year ago, I only kept a few subscriptions.

I make a variety of different kinds of cards and there are two kinds that I adore. One are the ones that are elegant and all the elements come together in beauty…texture, color, depth, meaning, and I love that. Feeds my soul when I make those. I also have a whimsical side and I love puns and word play. And some images are so fun to work with they just make me happy and I smile as they come to life. They feed my soul, too. I love both bodies of work..they make the recipients and my customers happy.ReplyCancel

My card style always includes dimension and texture. I think that is why I have always loved your cards Becca. I also always try to really personalize my cards based on the actual recipient. It takes me a little longer come up with a design, because of that little quirk I have. That is why I don’t make cards ahead of time very often. Your card today is so lovely. The first thing that came to mind for me was wedding. Think it would make a beautiful wedding card with just a few tweaks. Thanks for always sharing. I love this sentiment as well.

WOW Becca this card is just tooo gorgeous. I love the white on white look and with the small amount of color in the flowers, it´s just perfect.
What I like best about my own cards?? That´s a tuff one, cause it depends a lot on what kind of card, I´m making. But I love all the fancy folded cards, and think they´re pretty fun to make and I love the way I use all kind of weird stuff on my cards too, like f.ex. some old screws , some net from oranges or other kind of things like that. Anything can be used, and if I can make them look nice anyway, I feel pretty good about them then.ReplyCancel

Amazing Paper Grace ~ YOUR cards speak to my soul and to my style. I don’t often have a lot of time to make a card so am trying to enjoy more “clean and simple” cards.

I am TOO hard on myself and want to throw attempts away that are not perfect. The recipient may not even recognize that there was a mistake. I need to learn to talk to myself like I talk to someone I love. Thank you for that word of encouragement today!ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
Such a pretty card, my friend. When I create a birthday or wedding card and I have a color scheme or a theme (such as a young person who is in to some type of sport) I generally make a tri-fold card and use either the color scheme or the theme with a verse of some sort in the middle area sometimes I cut out the verse or salutation with a Spellbinder die. Other than that I typically find a card of yours which I would like to re-create for whatever holiday or event and ATTEMPT to copy as best as I can. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it is an excuse to buy the dies which you have used to create the card. lol
Hope your internet connection is back on target and that you have a wonderful weekend.

    Happy Friday, Becca!
We really hit the jackpot this week with so many beautiful cards. This one is definitely exquisite-I just love the lace. I have used lace as a border but haven’t used it to cover the card…but now I will!
I’d have to say that I have an affinity for elegance & flourish but the things that have the most importance to me are attention to detail and quality. These are the things that are consistent. If these are present, sometimes I don’t do much. It may cost me more but it’s worth it!
May you be blessed in equal measure by gushy moments and ones of calm serenity.

I try to keep in mind who I am making the card for, I like to keep it in the style that they love with things that they love. If they are into butterflies then I try to make it with butterflies on it. I want the person who receives my card to think it is the prettiest card they have ever seen. Your card is beautiful, Becca! What a nice way to express encouragement. My style is classic and sophisticated—at least that’s what I try to create! My cards usually have several layers (flat or minimal dimension) and many times I include a metallic touch. Hmm – I like that somehow there is a little bit of me in every card, but more I love the fact that I can ‘taylor’ a card to a person – even when it is an order and I don’t have much information, somehow God helps me make a card that the client loves and thinks is so appropriate for the person they intend it for.

How true! Talk to yourself/ Treat yourself as you would do to others. My Mom taught me this while I was in elementary school and it stuck with me throughout these years. She also taught me something else that was equally interesting……write your letters as if having a conversation with the recipient, make it interesting and human. I think this is why I thoroughly enjoy making and sending out cards that I have made. And what do I love about my card styling? my friends say it’s a reflection of me……flowery, bold, exotic and colorful. wow! I can’t say I deliberately go that way…..it just flows, it happens. And lastly, I truly enjoy your cards and your styling. It moves me.ReplyCancel

Your card has the perfect sentiment on it, oh so pretty . . My style, wow. . . I fall in love with every card I make for various reasons, sometimes it’s the embellishments, or the color combos or my coloring, I felt like was perfect, I do have to say that usually when I finish a card, I like it at the moment but it’s a day or two after that I’m over the moon about one thing or another on the card. I do try and always put a butterfly or Pearl/Beas on my card, kind of like a signature for my cards!!!! Some cards are hard for me to let go right away, I usually hold onto those and when the right person/situation comes up, surprise I have the perfect card just waiting!ReplyCancel

Lovely card, Becca. I never would have thought to cover a card in lace. It is beautiful! As to my style, the only word that fits is evolving. I haven’t totally developed “my style”. I do tend to be critical of my work so your message is appreciated. Have a blessed weekend.ReplyCancel

  • Anne (UK)September 18, 2015 - 6:11 pm

What a totally gorgeous card. Some lucky recipient is going to be blown away by it when it arrives! Just love that sentiment too!
You really come up with some thought provoking questions andI had to puzzle over this one as I don’t think I have one particular style. I have to come up with a different card project every week for the group and have to vary what we do as members have different preferences and I try to cater for everyone’s tastes in turn. However, I do love the challenge of ‘constructing’ 3D cards or cards which have moving parts.
Adding Africa to your list is awesome!

Becca, Your comments brought to my mind, my best friend.
We get together to make cards, about once a week. She puts a lot of stuff on her cards. Sometimes she needs to edit things. What I make are more minimal & I need to put more on my cards. Your cards are always so beautiful & so are you!! I’m trying to do more layers on my cards. I just enjoy creating them. Sometimes the ideas just buzz around in my head. They may come out the way I see them & other times they go in a different directions!!
Know that last year I had a rough year, but your cards gave me a lot of JOY!!ReplyCancel

My style is evolving since I only have been making cards about one year. I am however doing more of the Victoria / Garden style. My training as a florist and working with flowers is spilling onto my cards. I love combining, on my cards, layer on layer of card stock with 3D elements. I like using multi-media on my cards. Somehow, “more” never seems to be too much for me. Today’s card is exquisite. Isn’t is wonderful how your created vision of beauty – morphed onto a card, and your heartfelt messages reach people around the world? You are so special Becca!ReplyCancel

What a beautiful card as always! I must confess that I haven’t made a card in a while. Hubby bought me a new embroidery machine so I have been using that a lot and learning new techniques. Eventually I will get back into making cards. Was thinking I needed to make a few Halloween cards after seeing some great poem ideas.

What a lovely idea from a lovely woman–your Day of Giving is awesome.
My style is varied because I am a consultant for a stamping company. I design cards for a monthly club workshop so naturally I use a variety of styles. My favorite would have to be encouragement cards, usually with a Bible verse. I have always admired your cards, but don’t have anything close to the amount of dies that you do. Your use of ribbon and layering is phenomenal. Today’s card is particularly lovely.May God continue to bless your ministry.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Wow, your card is destined for Africa, and that lucky person will treasure it always.
This card, as always, is stunning !! I love the arched window and those beautiful flowers are divine, the recipient of this card will be a very lucky ‘bunny’.
I don’t really know what style my cards are, I know that I am my own worst critic haha, I like shabby chic, vintage, etc and find myself always adding glitter, I like to make a risen frame on my cards with die-cuts and then the focal image is lower than the frame, I love to put ‘angels’ with glittery wings on my cards, and I always put flowers and foliage on them. I love making ‘girlie’ cards, I’m not keen on making male cards haha.

  • Marlene IacuzziSeptember 19, 2015 - 5:45 pm

Actually, you, Becca, have been instrumental in my finding “my style”. My first few years of card making were a real struggle. Although I am still learning, most of my cards, those first few years, were very amateurish. The combination of lack of knowledge, lack of inate talent, and lack of materials, made for a lot of cards that got thrown out . But i fell in love with your feminine, romantic cards, and your sincerity and faith. While I don’t get as fancy, and don’t have the resources in my craft room that you do, I would definitely call my style soft and romantic.

Most of all, though, I always try to match the card to the recipient, if I canReplyCancel

Doubt if I will ever “conquer” that though. I absolutely love your cards – wish I could sit by your side and learn!!! Love this card!ReplyCancel

  • MichelleSeptember 19, 2015 - 11:13 pm

It is so hard to explain my card style. My favorite is using flowers and bling. I love the nature look with vines and leaves and flowers. Doing the finer things is tough with arthritic hands but when the occasion arises so does my determination even if it takes me longer. I just recently lost my sister-in-law to brain cancer and as your card says write the hurt in sand and the blessings in stone. We had wonderful adventures together and those are the stones in my heart.ReplyCancel

You strive for perfection and achieve the amazing. You ask about my card making and as I look back I love how far I’ve come. I enjoy making cards that put a smile on someones face and particularly ones that than bring the question “how did you do that”. This craft as brought so much stress release and joy hope I can do it forever. May your day be wonderful and filled with happiness.ReplyCancel

Hey there, it’s me.  I have a couple of things to cover.  First of all, I’m still without internet service – wow!  I’ve exhausted the data on my phone, but managed to get this post ready.  I know I have emails to return to many of you – I’ll get there soon.  With all the excitement, I failed to post the winner of last weeks Day of Giving, I’m so sorry – it’s up now!

The first thing I have to rejoice today is the “read more” button is back!  It has taken me months to figure it out, but it is back, did you miss it? New Amazing Paper Grace Dies.
The runway is literally full of new products coming off the line at Spellbinders, so while I’m waiting for other new things to take off, my new dies are in line waiting for release.   I’m so antsy waiting my turn, but let’s just let the suspense marinate, shall we?  The new date is October 26.  What am I doing in the meantime?  I’ll be loading up ideas of what you can do with these so that if they tickle your fancy, you can hit the ground running!  Stay tuned.

Here’s the Story Behind My Gift Today
We are not extravagant people, in fact my gift giving is pretty frugal.  Bits of ribbon, bits of yarn, a bauble saved here and there, swirl it around with the thought that counts and beauty from rubbish.  I’ve been tinkering with some little gifts – let me explain.  I spent more than 20 years in the hotel business and one of my several careers in that industry was event planning.  I always had to be on the lookout for the unique and special touches that would make the every day, memorable. I worried about the smallest details because I discovered sometimes that’s where you find the sweet spot, the one little tickle that causes hope or joy or seals the memory.  So you remember I mentioned, I have a guest coming to visit soon?  I’m crafting frugal gifts to use for ‘turn down service’.  That means each night on their pillow, they will find a little gift – it won’t cost much, but it’s the thought and the content that counts.  Today I’m sharing one of those turn down gifts :-)

My favorite gift to give this year are small journals – I add a cover with paper to glam it up.    This one uses a die I designed called Spellbinders Arched Elegance Pocket and Spellbinders Arched Elegance – I’ve shown a similar journal with a different die, but the steps are the same – you can see it HERE. This one uses a small leather journal found at Hobby Lobby (details bel0w), and as I hunt, I’ve found inexpensive alternatives at Walmart that are roughly the same size.  What I do when I’m scouting is carry one of the die cuts in my handbag and when in store I hold it up to possible journals to match the size.  It doesn’t have to be exact because you can score in a bit to make it smaller or you can overshoot a little bit to make it larger.

I crafted a small box (sized 3-1/8″ x 4-3/4″ x 1″ tall) with scrapbook paper and simply enclosed the journal and added bows I made with double sided satin ribbon.  Oh, the little leaf?  I chose it because of the flecks of gold in the vein, and thought it would match perfectly.  That’s a $5.00 gift card to Starbucks.  I left them a note that they should write in their journals while sipping a special cup of hot chocolate or coffee.  What to write about?  If nothing else, what we’ll do on their next visit….

Still w/o internet!? I would be going crazy! Are your neighbors without it, too? Is it your ISP, your router, your modem, a bug on your PC? Do you have an idea of what it is? We switched from Brighthouse to Verizon Fios with the hope of faster service…it remains only a hope, unfortunately. I get faster speeds with my VPN into work from FL to MN! I sure wish I could help you but I am an application software engineer, not a IT hardware or O/S expert. I would hate to be working from my phone. My personal laptop is in the shop but I mostly play on my iPad unless I’m working, then my work laptop of course.

What a beautiful and thoughtful gift idea here Becca. it´s sooo sweet and well made, and you´re soo right, it doesn´t matter if a gift cost 2$ or 100$. As a matter of factt a good and sweet one for 2$ is far better than something for 100$, that doesn´t mean anything to you. I´m so lucky to celebrate my birthday ehre today, and my daughter and granddaughters have just left, and their present was anm ols wallpaperbook, they had got from a recyclingstore and the girls had each drawed a biig drawing, that was made from the ehart, and it was the best gift, I´ve got of all.ReplyCancel

You are wonderful as always with taking time to keep us updated in spite of the internet. I love your turn down gifts. You are obviously as very special hostess.ReplyCancel

Becca your talents are beyond thinking about. Honestly your house guest will be blown away with this little gift. Its not the amount of the gift given its the thought and the work that has gone into it.
    Hugs Trish.ReplyCancel

Wow, we have something in common besides papercrafting!! When I was 16, I started working as a maid at a local hotel. After I graduated from high school, I became the assistant to the head housekeeper, as well as the banquet coordinator. This was not a “chain” hotel, and there was no budget for event decorations. I did my best with what we had, even learning special napkin folds. I worked at that hotel until I was 22. I met my husband there – also a hotel man. Thanks for bringing back some of those memories. I haven’t thought of that place in years.ReplyCancel
