Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight, Spellbinders Labels Seventeen, Spellbinders Delicate Doilies, Spellbinders Classic Circles SM, Spellbinders Venetian Motifs Spellbinders and Framed Petite Labels Embossing Folder - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends!  Today is Day of Giving Friday where I have a card to give away to one of my wonderful readers.  I just love layering dies, it gives cards the extra prettiness and depth that say ‘this is special’ and beautifully handmade with care.  Layering and the variety of textures leads the eye right in to the sentiment on this card for a special little highlight. Now you can’t pile everything on, but most of us have these dies in our stash and there’s nothing like layers to help you use those things you’ve collected.

WRBF-5000-2016
The card uses those classic dies we love so I thought I’d give you a quick run down.  The base of the card is made using Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight and Spellbinders Labels Seventeen.  If you’re not familiar with how to make a hinged base for a shaped card – I have a quick tutorial HERE.  For the frilly prettiness I’m using as the focal panel on the card I stacked from the bottom up using Spellbinders Delicate Doilies, Spellbinders Classic Circles SM, Spellbinders Venetian Motifs and lastly an element from the Delicate Doilies set.  The background is embossed with a portion of Spellbinders Framed Petite Labels Embossing Folder.

What a beautiful card. I need to use more dies to make more layers. It adds such dimension to the cards. I have been making and sending cards for at least 10 years. It has become a way of life for me. Now instead of spending hours in the Hallmark store, I spend hours trying to come up with just the right card for each person that receives one.ReplyCancel

Beautiful creation! Yes, we have tons of dies but it takes forever to find the ones that really work well together. By the time I’m done trying to accomplish that my artroom looks like a cyclone hit it! So when I see your layered beauties I get a breather and take a minute to salute you, Becca!!ReplyCancel

I’ve been card making 01 January 2005 and yes it is a way of life now. As soon as I hear of someone’s birthday or life event I think ‘I must make them a card’. Shop bought cards just aren’t personal enough.
I don’t comment often but love your cards Becca and this one is no except. It’s simply stunning and I couldn’t not leave a comment because it’s so beautiful.ReplyCancel

    Hello Becca,
I love the beauty of the card today. Your layers are perfection. I have been giving handmade cards for at least 16 years and have never bought a shop card in that time. But before that I made my own gift tags using dried flowers, leaves and fruit.
I have been crafting since I was a child for a total of at least 65 years – mainly sewing, knitting and crochet.

I started making Christmas cards 15 years ago. At that time I knew nothing about card making. Our friends all loved the photos of wildlife that we took so I decided to make cards using photos and I made up my own verses for Christmas cards. I also used construction paper as that was all I knew. Thankfully I discovered blogs and videos and I still learn something new every day. Yes, giving handmade cards is a way of life for me. I feel that is one way I can brighten the lives of friends and family. I love it when people tell me that they never throw away the cards they receive from me. Your card is beautiful (as usual) Love the soft colors. Thank you for sharing your special talent with us.ReplyCancel

  • Maryann LaursenMay 13, 2016 - 1:21 pm

Once again your card is simply over the top gorgeous. I absolutely LOVE your stunning and amazing cards always.
I´ve been giving my handmade cards for the last 15 years I think, and it sure is a way of life for me, as it means a l.ot to both me, and those who recieve my cards, that they´re made very personal to the recipient. And I can´t imagine, what people would say, if they suddenly didn´t get a handmade card from me, and all our family and friends directly expect it. My grandkids always come running and asking, what I´ve made for them this time, even before, they get their presents, so it tells me, that they really do apreciate them.
Have a wonderful week-end to you too now. I don´t know about you, but here it´s a holy week-end, we call Whitsun, that is always exactly 40 days after Easter sunday, and it´s this week-wns, so we have a long week-end this week, and hopefully we also get some nice sun, as we´ve had the last couple of days here. Hope you´ll have the same there Becca.ReplyCancel

Another gorgeous card, Becca. Absolutely love it! I’ve been making and sending hand made cards for about 13 years now. I only make them for myself and not to sell, although if any friends want a special card made I will do that, on condition they don’t insist on paying for them. I do it for pleasure and if ever it becomes a chore (which it hopefully never will) I will stop! Best wishes.

Good morning, Becca! Such a pretty card, this Friday! I’ve been giving handmade cards for oh, decades? Certainly more reliably in the last 10 years or so…maybe a little longer. I love being able to take the time to love and pray into the card I’m making – spend that time for the person it is going to. And I find the same even when creating for my business line – that care and joy going into my product, even though I’ll never know the recipient. It’s just as rewarding.

Have a blessed weekend, my friend.

SO BEAUTIFUL BECCA!!!! I LOVE the feminine feel you give your cards! Something to strive for…. ;) I have been making hand made cards for 9 years now, I think it is…. It IS a way of life for me now. I didn’t give cards before on a regular basis, they were rare actually. I thought they were too expensive & I could NEVER find a sentiment I liked for the occasion, NOTHING FIT! NOW, I make cards & give them for whatever situation I am in need of! EVEN IF, I write my own sentiment/s! ;)ReplyCancel

Your card today is so pretty and oh so special with all those perfectly placed layers. If you do not count the cards I made in elementary school, I have been making cards for about 1 1/2 years now and sending them to loved ones and friends. I guess it depends on how much longer I live, but my goal is to continue to make and send cards for as long as possible. I am really enjoying making and sending my cards and I pray I have lots of time left to do so. Such fun!ReplyCancel

I love all pretty dies but am really challenged with thinking of ways to layer. Every time I see what you and others create I am inspired but most of the cards I make are much simpler. I have been sending handmade cards since the late eighties and it definitely is a way of life for me. It seems someone at my church is always in need of a handmade card and with being blessed with a large circle of friends and much family ( including 15 grandkids) I make and send many cards. As of late the most cards I am sending are thank you’s to all the wonderful outpouring of love for me and my terminally ill husband.ReplyCancel

I have been giving handmade cards for many, many years. Probably more than 20 years. I love to be able to create something special for giving. Sometimes the recipient appreciates it, sometimes not, but the joy is in the giving.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. Fabulous card. Love the embossed panel. Been making cards for 5ish years after getting bored with buying shop bought ones as I could never find something to fit the person I was buying for, and when I did the words inside were awful for the most part. So I bought a kit and had a go at sticking things together. After soon getting bored with that I bought a die cutting machine and I’ve never looked back. You just can’t buy the cards we make. They are truly unique and that makes them a gift in themselves. Happy weekend.ReplyCancel

This card is stunningly beautiful. Ii love everything about it from the embossing to the bow, flowers and all the gorgeous die cut layers. Just when I think I’ve seen my favorite, a new favorite shows up. You definitely inspire me to want to create!

I began papercrafting in 2001 with the birth of my first grandchild, Noah. I actually resisted card making until about 5 years ago. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to give cards away, it was that I was just very passionate about preserving memories for my Grandchildren. I want to leave my view of their lives for them when I’m no longer around. When I finally made my first card, I was hooked! I love love love creating cards and giving them away!

Your card for today is absolutely beautiful. Making handmade cards for me started when I was young. My father did not want store bought cards so every occasion I would draw a picture card and he just loved them. When he passed away I was going through some of his things and there was every card I drew for him over the years. Also, I am so happy to be one of your winners on your Giving Friday. Happy Friday, Becca,
You are a master of layering! You amaze me with your elegant eye that can place these intricate layers atop each other so they work so harmoniously with each other.

Making handmade cards is a way of life for me now but it hasn’t always been that way. About 30 years ago I decided to make handmade Christmas cards. That became an annual tradition and has expanded from there. Now, I make cards for myself and others. Making beautiful cards really feeds my soul. I think my total well-being depends on it!

Hi Becca, I always love how you make layers that I never would have even thought about.Your pink cards are always among my favourites.
I was an amateur scrapbooker & started after I had kids. About 10 years ago I made my first card. It was for my sister in laws bridal shower. I just could not find one that was pretty enough. I was so scared people would think I was being cheap. But she loved it :D
Though it took my confidence another 7 years before I started to make more. I was always worried people would think I am being cheap, until one day I was trying to get inspiration & googled something. I stumbled upon your blog! That was 1 year ago! You have no idea, as it could have not happened in a better time in my life. A time I felt confused & lost my confidence in many aspects of life. Since then your blog has been a massive inspiration & I have learnt so much. People that receive my cards know they are receiving an original piece, made from the labor of love with hours and care taken to complete. My cards don’t always look as perfect as yours lol, but I can say I no longer fear what they think. Now I just get the odd comment like, “isn’t it just quicker to buy?” Lol They’re the ones that don’t get it!
I have only really been a card maker for 2 years but, I guess it has become a way of life as I find it hard to buy a card because, they are never pretty enough. Did I forget to mention how large my die collection is now ;)
    Have a lovely weekend xReplyCancel

I have been making and giving hand made cards for about five years. I had been scrapbooking for a couple of years, and seemed to progress into cardmaking. I now will not give anything but one of my well made homemade cards. I love to make the cards, giving everything I have to make the most beautiful card I know how to make. And I have learned so much over the last five years. My first cards were flat and uninteresting. Now I embellish and make them to a standard that I have set for myself. I spend every free moment working on cards. I may have several working at a time. It is now a part of me and I love it. It fulfills me and gives my creative side an outlet.ReplyCancel

I’ve learned almost everything I need to know how to put together a card that displays beauty, thought and the collection of dies I just had to have because of you. Part of my weekly routine is to put aside one day to work on various card projects so I always am ready to send a card to someone for whatever reason it calls for. Aside from my enjoyment of creating and sharing is knowing that my friends enjoy and ‘expect’ my personally made cards. Giving is more fun.ReplyCancel

WOW What a beautiful card! I love the layered delicate cards! I have been creating cards for about 20 years. My favorite card to make is using the spellbinder dies. Yes it is my way of life I’cant imagine having to buy a card way too expensive! Thanks for the chance to win your card.

Take good care & God bless you!

For over 25 years I think. I really don’t have any other kind of cards to give. Sometimes I don’t have the “perfect one” so I have to stop and make one, but I give them for every occasion. Nice layers. My mind just does not think in layers….ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Your card has such a beautiful combination of dies/embossing folder. They have been around for awhile, I have them, never would have combined them, but look at your results. Worth redoing your ideas because they are so good. Many thanks. I really appreciate your suggestions from past releases–gives new life to my stash of goodies. I did get my shipment of your new dies, wedding line, and can’t wait to play, even better, follow your lead with them. I’ve been gathering supplies since the 1990s and making cards but it takes designer ideas like yours to be able to send them out with pride. Continue to share your artistic talent, it means a lot to me. BarbaraReplyCancel

I’m hoping to eventually learn to layer dies like you do for elegant beautiful cards…but so far mine are mostly clean and simple. I have some dies, but not a lot yet…and am not good at this beautiful elegant look with the few I do have. I sure dream of figuring it out though cause I just adore your cards!ReplyCancel

I have been making cards for about 25 years and just love it. I started by using stencils. then learned how to do parchment cards with inks, pens, piercing tools and now use embossing folders, punches and dies. It is a wonderful hobby and I just love it and always interested in taking courses to learn how to make different cards.

Your cards are beautiful and inspire me very much.

Oh, you went and did it again, another absolutely gorgeous card, and I love it when you create pink and white cards, they are so springy.
I have been stamping continuously for the last four years. During that time you have been a great inspiration to me. I have tried several cards with the Spellbinders that I have, only to have them not turn out very nice? So I keep practicing! Now, I just create something easier and when the recipient receives my card they are appreciative of a hand made card.ReplyCancel

Stunning Becca, just stunning. Really beautifully made card but then again, I would expect no less from you anymore. It is a real inspirational piece for me.

I have been making cards most of my 65 years and got fairly serious about it about 12 years ago just about the time I had my accident and series of back surgeries. Making cards was something I could do rather easily and it allowed me to keep my imagination moving forward and was so much better for me than just sitting and watching television.

Now I feel I am trying to go to the next level! The Becca level is more elegant and complicated but oh so beautiful.ReplyCancel

I’ve been making my own cards (and lots of other things) for over 30 years. What I’d really like to thank you for, Becca, is your use of older dies in so many of your projects. The die industry seems to be all about what’s new and the latest release, and it’s not only hard to keep up, but expensive. Just when you begin thinking up projects to use the new dies, there’s another release by some company or other. It’s really a pleasure to see that these older dies still have a lot of life!ReplyCancel

Better late than not! Attended my #3 daughter’s(age 46)graduation from the University of Texas San Antonio where she earned a Masters of Public Policy/Social Work. So proud of her! Just returned home to your precious Friday card. So diminutive!

I have been a hand weaver since 1986. In 1996 we moved closer to our #2 daughter who was hosting a Stampin’ Up party. I was invited and I was hooked. I found that I could make something pretty with colors and texture, satisfying that immediate need to create. Weaving a cloth takes weeks, but I’m still lovin’ that, too.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to view your creative nature. SaraReplyCancel

Anniversary, Engagement, Wedding Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using S4-609 Spellbinders Gents Shoe, Lace S4-601 Spellbinders Ladies Shoe, S5-258 Spellbinders Swallowtail Tags - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends!  Welcome to another Day of Giving Friday – today I have a new card to share and my post is short.  I was in a shoe making frenzy during my last posts and that said – you know my motto – let nothing go to waste.  I went through quite a few takes so I have a little pile of extras.  I pulled one of each to pull together a card with the Ladies Shoe and the Gents Shoe together.  I think its the perfect card for an anniversary, engagement or wedding.

Edited to Add: If you are a comment reader, or just need a little lift to your day.  Please take a second to read through the comments being left today (and if you are so inclined, you are always welcome to share a kind word with other readers who may need it).   The readers who frequent the crafting pages here are second to none and are the most uplifting and caring people I know.  After I published my post, I sat down with a cup of coffee and began to reading about you.  I’m inspired, uplifted and speechless.

Anniversary, Engagement, Wedding Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using S4-609 Spellbinders Gents Shoe, Lace S4-601 Spellbinders Ladies Shoe, S5-258 Spellbinders Swallowtail Tags - www.amazingpapergrace.com

I simply pulled together a panel that I wrapped in lace.  My sentiment is computer generated and cut with Spellbinders Swallowtail Tags.  I hand tied a ribbon around the panel and popped on a Gents Shoe and Ladies Shoe for a 10 minute card.

About Day of Giving Friday

WAUW what an awesome card here again Becca. I just love those shoes, and they makae such a gorgeous anniversarycard like yours here. It look sooo perfect.
What am I grateful for here today? I´m grateful, that I live in a free country, as we just yesterday celebrated the 71 year´s day from our release in WW2, and it was still very fresh in the memory, when I was born in the years after, and I still remember all the horror from that time, so I´m grateful, that we at least are free now a days, and don´t have to worry the bombs or that kind, even there´s unfortunately more and more terror comming up here too.
    Have a wonderful week-end everyone.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. Fab card as always. I still haven’t used my shoe dies yet as I am having a mega craft room sort out. Everything out of the room and scattered all over the house currently! It’s been deep cleaned and now Ive moved the furniture around a bit I need to put less back then I took out! Mmmmm…. Could be interesting. I got fed up trying to craft in a tiny space so a good clean and declutter is long over due. I am grateful that it’s Friday today! It’s been one of those weeks. Happy weekend.ReplyCancel

What a perfect anniversary card! I’m grateful that I was able to spend last weekend with our daughter, son-in-law and their puppy. It was our daughter’s birthday and that was the first time I’d been able to celebrate with her on her actual birthday since 2008. We had a fun day of visiting 7 bookstores in an Independent Bookstore Day scavenger hunt. Perfect for us book nerds. :)ReplyCancel

Today I am thankful for life and family, but then that’s everyday. I thank God each morning when I awake for these gifts. I then proceed to thanks Him for other things.ReplyCancel

As I read your comment I thought, wouldn’t it be great if Becca used her leftovers for giveaways – especially for people, like me that don’t own a die cut machine (yet!) and are always looking for embellishments. Then I read about your loss and your injury and I thought, this is precisely why Becca invited us to connect with each other. As I write this, I am praying that you are cradled softly in the loving arms of God, bringing you the support and comfort you need. All good wishes, SandyReplyCancel

That is such a charming card, Becca! I agree it would be perfect for any “couple” event. And the dies will not go out of style because there are always so many “couple” events to celebrate!
What am I grateful for today? Too many things to list! I strive to live a life a gratitude. I am grateful for everything from the beauty of the morning dew on a leaf to my salvation in Christ. I’m not as grateful for the trials in my life, but I am grateful for the lessons they teach me and the shaping of my character into becoming a more Godly woman.
I hope you, and all of your readers, have just as long a list as mine!ReplyCancel

    Good morning lovely lady,
Oh how i love her wedding shoes and i could walk in those ones as they are nice and low, although i don’t know that my ankles and those pretty dainty ankle straps would meet somehow, lol. This is a bonny card Becca and one that any bride would be over the moon with.
My thing that i am grateful for is still being able to walk albeit on two sticks. I look around at people who are confined to wheelchairs because their legs have went on strike or totally fallen out with them and i am truly lucky. Yes i may have broken my back 3 different occasions now and have walking difficulties but i can still do it, many can’t. I realise that this probably reads strange to others but i look around and see so many poor souls that can’t do anything for themselves and more so when their brain is so intelligent and they know what is around them but their body won’t even let out one word, so you see i am so very lucky.
    Take care lovely lady

What a darling card. A cousin of mine is getting married and I offered to make all of her paper goodies as my gift to her. I just received the shoes dies and cannot wait to show her what you did with them.

My cousin was present at my Mother’s funeral this week. We just returned home last night. I did not know that grieving was such hard work, BUT…how grateful I am that my Mother, her Auntie, lived to be 104 years old. I have had many moments and many memories to sustain me. As I was giving the Eulogy and looking out over the 80+ people in attendance it occurred to me that my Mum and my Dad populated a whole city because at this moment there are 104 members in our family. And I can attest to the fact that they are all contributing members of society with love as the center core that holds us all together. Thank you Becca for allowing me to express my gratefulness for my Mum and grateful to you for the venue to do so. God Bless you! SaraReplyCancel

Amazing Paper Grace: S4-610 Ladies Shoe on Spellbinders Paper Arts designed by Becca Feeken
Good morning friends!  This week I’m doing some educational videos on how to assemble some of my new dies.  Many of you have emailed me for instructions and I think these videos will do the trick :-)  Several left to do, but they are coming! Today I have a video to share to show you how to assemble the S4-610 Spellbinders Ladies Shoe.   This is a shoe that screams girlfriends!!  It will be right at home for wedding themed cards but my goodness, the shoe is so darned cute my girlfriends are getting put on the gift list.

Amazing Paper Grace: S4-610 Ladies Shoe on Spellbinders Paper Arts designed by Becca Feeken
This is the card I had in mind when I designed the die – I could just see a whole row of shoes.  Crafting mimics real life, right?!  For this particular card I created a card base using Spellbinders Victorian Arch – I cut four of these and adhered them to a 2-1/2″ of card stock – 11″ long and scored in the middle.  The arches are adhered, two on the front and two on the back along the decorative edge.  My sentiment is printed on vellum with my laser printer and adhered along the bottom edge of the shoe panel.  It’s a big card (8″ x 5-1/2″) that will need a custom envelope but I’m a huge fan of the We’R Memory Keepers Envelope Board – having it in my arsenal means I’ll never shy away from creating custom cards.

Amazing Paper Grace: S4-610 Ladies Shoe on Spellbinders Paper Arts designed by Becca Feeken
I’ve assembled quite a few of these shoes by now and for this one I was tickled to discover that washi tape comes in prints that are sized just right for this shoe.  I wanted a small print for one of the shoes so I just laid out three strips of the tape and that gave me the coverage I needed to cut out the toe piece.

Your work is so beautiful. Seems like I say that quite often, but your work is a cut way above the rest.I don’t have words to describe how breathtaking your work is. You are an artist with paper. You can take a plane sheet of paper, in this case at least 2 sheets and make something so beautiful[ I try to do it, but mine is plain vanilla next to yours. You make the world a must nicer and prettier place. Thank for sharing your talent with us.ReplyCancel

Awesome card; so feminine, so delicate, so pretty. Love the sentiment and the design. Wish I had gotten this die for my female May birthdays. Maybe I can do something like this next year. Wooooow!!!! I’m back! Just watched the tutorial. Loved it! But the introductory fonts to that tutorial just took my breath away!! The swirls and curls, they look like quilling. If I could have copied them I would have. I know they’re your handiwork, too. Totally Beccaliciious!!!!!!ReplyCancel

I’m loving these instructional videos Becca. And i am gradually working through my list of your wedding collection dies….that i so need!
Becca my eyes are very old now so i have trouble seeing how you are putting things together when it is shown against the black script background a plain table would be easier!
