Thank You Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - I Don
Well hello there!  I have to say that there is nothing like getting new crafting supplies in the mail.  I have new dies that have been sitting in the corner and it just makes me itch to create.  Well, it just so happens that I have a couple of Thank You cards that I need to get into the mail this week so I sat down for a quick create.  Even though I have a pretty hefty stash of cards to draw from, sometimes I like it that the recipient is the inspiration.  I’m also using a new sentiment from Quietfire DesignI Don’t Tell You Often Enough.   By the way,  If you’re a picture glancer and don’t read all the text, that’s okay – me too.  Just be sure you pop down to the bottom of my post – I have request :-)

Walk Through on How to Make Card

Base
This is a basic 6″ x 6″ card with a matted layer that is 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″.  To give the matted layer some texture, I cut the top of the matted layer using Spellbinders Divine Deco (please note I cut it four times to create the panel).

Focal Panel
The focal panel is cut from Spellbinders Savoy Decorative Accent  with the two largest pieces in order to make it a frame.  I topped the frame with the oval from Spellbinders Elegant Ovals.

Embellishment
Hands down my favorite flowers are Spellbinders Cinch and Go Flowers.  Here I ‘smushed’ them around larger pearls and when totally dry, I peeled back the layers to create a simple but sweet cupped flower that anyone can make.  To see more about this simple technique check out the video HERE.

Becca, I’d LOVE to talk to you on Instagram, and will set up an account for that very purpose, thank you!!!

Your blog was one of the very first I read years ago, and I fell in love with all things Becca, and I have many of your products–from your bow-maker to your kits (LOVED those!!!), and now your stamps and dies. Your taste–sublime!!! :)

A quick question, where could I buy pearls with a hole in the center so that I can get some thin metal cording to try this technique, I have this die set… :) Thanks for your help!!!

Also, what do you tend to use for your metal die-cuts? I’m not sure how thick I can go in the foiled paper I see at Hobby Lobby when I take a trip across the border. Thanks so much for your help.

I LOVE the elegance of these dies, love Art Deco style, and that Savoy die, wow!!! I always love how you take an item and stand it up on its head, so to speak, and you find a different purpose. It makes me too want to play outside the box!!!

Thank you for all of your inspiration, and for introducing me to QuietFire, that fantastic Canadian stamp company.

Oh my gosh Becca this is soooo beautiful. I absolutely LOVE the white and gold and just a little splash of colors on the gorgeous bow. You just know, how to make things look sooo elegant.
So sorry I haven´t been much around and commented lately, but have had to run a lot in and out of hospital again here, so haven´t had much time for being online, I´m afraid.
Unfortunately I´m a total jerk, when it comes to electronic devices, so I´m not on Instagram, and I don´t have much time left for these things either, I haven´t even got my own blog updated for many months, so don´t think, I can handle anymore than I already try to do, but glad you get to chat with many of your lovely followers there. An elegant card today. I like these “Art Deo” dies. Your Clinch and Go flowers are wonderful. I finally have this set of dies now, but have not used them yet. I re-watched your “How to” video on making these Clink & Go flowers. You do these with such ease. And you were brilliant to think of designing this set with so many sizes of petal layers, adding the calyx, and the vine looking flourish. You truly put a lot of thought into what you want when designing your sets. Thank you Becca for sharing with us your clever ideas!ReplyCancel

Oh thanks so much SuzzieQ. This is music to my ears as I have just designed another collection – these last three weeks. I love the fact that you do take your time as so many creators and makers these days have forgotten the lost art of becoming a Master Craftsman these days and that is what you remind me of :) Do not change a thing.

I just wish I had some of your dies and a machine so I can make some cards. I want to make one for my father who has Dementia and is a nursing home thousands of miles away from me while I sit here suffering from very painful illnesses and unable to visit him. I did finally speak with him on the phone last week and it was beautiful, forgiving, laughter filled and tear filled but such a huge release of a burden I never realized I had been carrying since I was age 5 and I just turned 44. All I can say is that God is so good all the time, Amen.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - Every Good and Perfect Gift and Spellbinders Labels Thirty Five, Spellbinders Deco Lux - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweet friends!  Here is today’s card for giveaway to one of you!  For Day of Friday Giving I have a new card with a wonderful scripture stamp from Quietfire Design – Every Good Perfect Gift.  I love a sentiment that you can send for any occasion! To pair it with dies that need nothing else to shine, make for a card you’re more likely to put together.  I get a lot of mileage out of framed cards because the frame is the decoration and the frame absolutely completes the card!  So in short – you can make a card that looks just like this.

WRBF-5021-2016

About The Card
Today I selected a die from the new(ish) Art Deco Collection with Spellbinders.  I’m telling you – the die does all the work!  I simply cut an aperature in my gold foil paper using Spellbinders Labels Thirty Five.  Once cut, I centered the opening over Spellbinders Deco Lux die template and cut.  This gave me a frame.  I stamped my sentiment onto vellum so that it would not need to compete with the print background and trimmed the vellum so that it would fit within the frame.  The sentiment is adhered with one layer of foam tape and the remainder of the frame is adhered with two layers of foam tape.  It’s that easy.  Now the Deco Lux die cut out is 6 x 6 and since I wanted more accent around that frame I started with a card base that is 6-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ – since there are so many envelope makers on the market, making a custom envelope for this card is no problemo :-)  The gold rimmed layer that sits on my card base is 6-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ (using the Hinged technique to make the card base).

Hi Becca, What an amazing card here again today. All your work is always sooo beautiful, and I love how they most times can be used for different occasions.
My preffered way of showing kindness is, when people least expect it. To make them a nice card, just because….. and also a small handmade gift just to cheer them up, if I feel, they need a little kindness in their life. There´s just nothing like putting a smile on someones face, when they just don´t feel like smiling, and don´t expect anything like this. It can really make my heart warm.ReplyCancel

  • Bette SJune 17, 2016 - 1:54 pm

My way of giving is to make a special card for someone. I can’t sing or am musical one bit or have any real talents, so I use the small talent God has given me to create cards to give away. I know they are not on the scale of your awesome cards, but I’m proud of the ones I make. And I do think they are appreciated.
Now, I have a question for you: What spellbinder dies do you recommend for making hinged A2 cards? I’ve watched your tutorial on making hinged cards and am ready to try my hand at them – but would prefer to make a smaller card. Any suggetions?ReplyCancel

  • Yoshiko GlennJune 17, 2016 - 1:55 pm

This card is an eye catcher as everybody loves gold! So glad you gave measurements and more details. I’m loving the Art Deco style and this new Quietfire sentiment. There arent a lot out there that are solely focused on the Source of our strength. I listen – that’s my main act of kindness, where in a self centered world people really want to know they’re important. Thanks Becca for all your hard work on that crafting table!ReplyCancel

  • ANN ROBBINSJune 17, 2016 - 2:06 pm

    Oh Becca,
This is so beautifu, wondered when you would use this die. Was patiently waiting as it one of the first ones I bought at Scrapbook Expo in Orlando. When when I saw it, I had to have this one and you are right – it makes the card. Yours is lovely as always.
My fav way to show kindness to make a personalized card. I did 5 this week for my daughter’s nurses when she was in the hospital, 1 for her doctor (surgeon) and one for my husband and my ex-doctor’s 70 birthday. All 7 made the same but with doctor and nurse embellishments. Love doing mass production.

What a beautiful card. Acts of kindness don’t get near the attention that they should. If only reporters would start focusing on the good rather than the bad, changes might be seen?!
My favorite act of kindness would be cooking for people in their time of need and or sending an encouraging card when someone needs a pick me up.ReplyCancel

What better way to start my day by viewing a beautiful card that would also brighten up someone’s day. I like to give a friend a phone call just to wish them a good day and know that I’m thinking of them. What a stunning card Becca. I am new to your blog, but just love, love, LOVE it.
Now, in reply to your question. My favourite way to show kindness is to be spontaneous ang giving when I know a person needs that extra bit of TLC. Out of the blue, I will send them something, most often something unusual or quirky, which will have no other use than to make that person smile and know they are important. A special handmade card or fancy note will be added, and then, a couple of days later, I will arrive with what may be the most important part of my kindness, chocolate and wine. It always cheers. Hi Becca, A beautiful card and well worth waiting for. Lots of thought went into this ‘simple’ card and I appreciate the details to duplicating it by giving dimensions, measurements, and use of vellum. A smile, basic courtesy, and genuine interest for someone goes a long way to expressing kindness–easily given and often much appreciated. Thank you, BarbaraReplyCancel

By giving something I made in appreciation. I always try to let everyone know how much I appreciate what they are doing. Happy Friday, Becca,
I usually read over comments before responding and I’m so glad I did today because it reminds me why I so appreciate this community. Your friends are a reflection of you – so generous!

Today’s card is a beauty with such with a wonderful sentiment. I try to respond with kindness to a person’s wants. My favorite way to respond is to offer prayer. If I don’t know what someone needs, God surely does!

In a dream, the Lord asked me if I would reach out to a person who was very ill in my workplace. What did the Lord ask me to do? Make a card! At the time, it was confounding – why me? The answer was simple and a blessing; because I am a card maker. What a blessing it is to know that giving my God-given gifts is how the Lord would have me do His work.ReplyCancel

Stunning work of art; thank you for sharing this beautiful piece. My daily way of showing kindness is to be aware of my surroundings and think of “their” needs, not mine — open a door, help with packages and especially mom’s with strollers. Beautiful and elegant, as always! Love your use of text paper . . . Perfection. My favorite act of kindness is is the time when I ‘m in a hurry and of course the checkout person is new and slow and trying to do their job but is struggling. That’s when I suck it up, slow down, smile and give encouragement. Their relief of not having me irritated is well worth being late. I was taught to treat people with kindness, even if they seem to be “somewhere else” or doing their job poorly. For all I know they just lost a love one

My Favorite way to show kindness to a person: Is to just listen and be present with the person I am with. As it truly shows them that I do truly care and love them.

Becca, the card is just beautiful just like all the cards you make.

My way to show kindness is to tell people something about themselves that makes them smile and feel good about themselves.

The cashier in the store may have her nails done beautifully, the teacher may have on pretty jewelry, the teen may have on a t-shirt with a great saying printed on it etc.

The great smile someone shows after you’ve told them a kind word or two not only makes them feel good but it makes me feel good too.ReplyCancel

The card is beautiful, Becca! I have a lot of designer paper that has type on it and would have never thought to use it in this way.

My favorite way is to find something positive to at least 3 people each day. It’s such a small thing to do. A simple, “Love your hair” to a stranger or “I can’t believe how well you’re holding up” to a harried cashier makes them smile and makes me feel as if I’ve helped make their day a little better.ReplyCancel

A stunning card using the Art Deco dies as a nice frame. I am liking these Art Deco dies, but do not have any yet. My favorite way to show kindness everyday when I am out driving, is to be a courteous driver in allowing drivers waiting to get onto the road the opportunity to do so. Also, as all drivers should do, but in this areas most drivers don’t, I always give the pedestrian the right of way. I keep thinking if I continue these kind gestures, maybe one day the local drivers will follow my lead.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card again today. After seeing this card, I must rethink the Art Deco dies They weren’t my first choice, but now think I’ll add it to my wish list.
I prefer random acts of kindness especially when they wouldn’t expect it. I’ve paid for a families dinner, bought a birthday cake for a little boy whose mother told him they couldn’t afford it. After visiting with the little boy, it just felt right to purchase the cake as his birthday present from me. I kept watching his mother during our little visit in the store, and there were tears in her eyes when I purchase the cake for him. I gave her extra money for ice cream. I can remember the days with a young family, we too didn’t have extra money for those little extras my kids wanted. It did me more good than I’m sure it did for that family. The more you give, the more you get back.ReplyCancel

To show kindness, I like to send little cards to people at the care home. It started with my mother when she became unable to stay in her house anymore, and how much a card meant to her. She would carry it around for days and show it so proudly to her fellow boarders. I live in another town, and could not be there every day, so the cards seemed like a way of keeping in touch, and were so very appreciated.ReplyCancel

The way I try to convey kindness is to talk to people in a way that they do not have to feel defensive, my tone of voice implies compassion and understanding, it seems to work for me in business and personal very well and I have avoided a lot of conflict once I started using kindness in my words.
I have to say this card is about my favorite I ever saw anyone post in blogland, to me this card is the epitome of sophistication and elegance, you are one classy lady. I enjoy your creations and look forward to seeing each new one you make.ReplyCancel

  • Charlotte ZweigoronJune 18, 2016 - 10:45 am

As to the question of kindness… I feel I do that through a warm smile to as many people as I meet eyes with each day. Who knows what they may be thinking or dealing with? I may not know their interior thoughts but I believe a warm smile always lightens a troubled day and a good day, alike.

I also like to encourage creativity through my crafting class. So many people feel they are totally lacking in creativity. It is wonderful to see these people blossom and become more confident. I always tell them there are no mistakes just happy accidents… These very people are now doing some of the best work in the group. Some in the group take my idea and do something very different, using the same materials and going in their own direction with wonderful results. I think the class gives me more than I give it and I am “hooked on the feeling”…

I use your bow-maker in my class and the ladies have asked if it is still available. Could you let me know?

    Thanks for all you do.ReplyCancel

    Becca
This card and last Friday’s card are unique with the sentiment alone but with ur added (I’m at a lost for the word that could actually describe what u add!!) piece of ur. Heart, and many other things; the cards are beyond beyond everything. They make me happy just looking at them. I found another card of yours the other day it made me smile!! So what do I to show kindness sometimes (in fact this happened) If I can sense/tell that a person is having a rough day and I just tell them God Loves You even to a complete stranger. Of course making things like cards, mini albums whatever; the smile on the receivers face tells me that was a kind thing to do and they will appreciate it. Ask our mutual friend what she got for Christmas from me!
    Hope u see this

Beautiful card. My favorite way to show kindness is by lending a helping hand whenever possible or by being a good listener and supportive.ReplyCancel

  • Kim HaygoodJune 24, 2016 - 8:40 pm

This card is so beautiful! I love this idea! I love to show kindness in my work individually with students who struggle with learning. I believe that they need to look at themselves honestly, as we all do, so that the confidence they have is built on truth and on solid ground. At then end of every session, I ask my students what is one thing they did during our session which is good or showed strength or improvement and what is one thing they want to continue to work on next time. Many students with learning disabilities do not seem to easily identify things they do well. This often takes practice and it helps them to learn self-talk that acknowledges their weaknesses and areas to work on, but it also focuses on accomplishments and reaching goals. Helping to teaching them to be kind to themselves is one of the ways I enjoy showing kindness. I am grateful to you for the opportunity to reflect and share.ReplyCancel

Good morning sweet friends!  A short post today and a card to give away.  I hope you’ve had a wonderful week.  Today finds me very quiet after having a couple of down days being sick.  Thank goodness it didn’t last long because I’m working on new things in the background and need to play a little catch up here :-)

Sometimes people ask if I make simple cards – yep, this is it!  Just two dies and lots of fiber.  I used Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Squares and on top stacked Spellbinders Lacey Squares.  This is a classic anchor in my stash and you can see similar samples HERE.  I used a beautiful sentiment from Quietfire Design – lovely for a card but I hold the hope that I’ll one day design a scrapbook page with these profound words :-)

About Day of Giving Friday

Every Friday it’s my pleasure to give away a card.   The card goes to a randomly picked reader (worldwide) who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.  For your comment today:  What’s on your mind?

Good morning, Becca! Sorry to hear you were ill, but very glad to hear you are now feeling better.

This is a lovely card, as always. I adore all the textures! Definitely my style. ?

Today I am thinking of & planning out how to finish all the chores I have left on my plate. Had some work done in my home, which of course is nice to have completed. But it does leave unfinished items which will bug me until I finish them! So that’s what is on my mind this lovely morning.

    Have a wonderful day, Becca!ReplyCancel

  • Jan CastleJune 10, 2016 - 10:52 am

Becca, your card is DELIGHTFUL with just the right sentiment to provoke thought and to make us want to improve!
Happy to hear you are taking it easy after being sick…prayers that you are definitely on your way to full recovery as you are one busy lady.
Thank you for always being an inspiration….and for making us think about what we are doing and feeling.
Today, I am thinking about making a special card for a dear friend who just lost her husband of 60+ years of marriage…already mailed a sympathy card. She is in town for a second Memorial service as her husband pastored our church for a number of years, then was Associate Pastor (after he retired) well into his 80’s. Will get to have lunch with her while she is here on Monday and want a special card – just for her.

Oh Becca what a wonderful question: What is on your mind. At this time I have to say my son and daughter in law have been trying to get pregnant-my daughter in law has gone thru so much-and yet she has so much faith and after 7 years of struggle-they are pregnant-with TWINS. My daughter in law is such a beautiful-caring and loving young lady. She has been having some severe morning sickness and of course some bleeding. She is in her 11th week and those precious little babies are holding on. They are growing but there is still the danger of a miscarriage. So my dear friend my mind has been filled with happiness but some worry. Praying that they do survive and that she can carry them to full term if God wants. Keep her and those precious tiny babies in your prayers. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend. RaquelReplyCancel

What a beautiful card and a wonderful sentiment. I really like how the Lacey Squares and Fleur de Lis squares work together – never thought of those two together. What’s on my mind is redoing my craft room. I had to empty part of it out so the cable guy could get to the TV, now I’m trying to decide how I want it rearranged. Hi Becca. Sorry to hear you have been poorly. Glad you are better now. I’ve been suffering with bad hay fever this week as the pollen count here has been very high. Love your card. You call it simple but it doesn’t look it! It’s lovely. What’s on my mind? All my things on my To Do list. Just as I clear one action another 2 gets added on! I think I am winning after hitting my list today. I am planning a crafty day tomorrow starting with some craft shopping and a demo before getting in my craft room to play. I made my first gift bag using your die a few days ago and I was very pleased with it. Think it will be a fave die that sits on my desk as it will be in frequent use. Happy weekend.ReplyCancel

Good morning, Becca. What you call a simple card is certainly different than most definitions, but I love it just the same. And this is one of my favorite Quietfire sayings as well and I use it for comfort on some occasions for sympathy cards. My thoughts today are on plans around my 70th birthday party and all the joy it will hold. It is three months away and will not be on my actual birthday so that guests can travel safely to help celebrate. I was thinking today–life is good when you have friends and family to help with the journey.ReplyCancel

I know that my cards are starting to look more ‘professional’ (at least that’s what my gfs say) and elegant….thanks to you. What’s on my mind today is to set up a plan for the two weeks my grandchildren will be spending their summer vacation with us. They always are so excited to come here and we thrill at the thought of spending this time with them. We don’t see them often so we try to max out all the time with craft projects, hikes, swimming, camping in the back yard and biking. Of course, at the end of this vacation we are exhausted but the memories made are worth every ounce of tiredness.ReplyCancel

Hello! Becca, your card is gorgeous, as always! Glad you’re feeling better – it’s no fun at all to feel sick. Ironically, what’s on my mind is my daughter. She’s a military wife and has a two year old, and a 5 week old, and they are preparing for a military move. Their household goods have been picked up and shipped off, and the toddler is feeling out of sorts. None of her toys, her own bed gone, and all the other confusion of this move has our daughter feeling like she’s ‘not a good mom’. When I read your sentiment, I thought that’s what she needs to hear! Thanks for the inspiration :)ReplyCancel

Something about lace or canvass or material added to a card or project just make you feel more connected to the artist or maker. What is on my mind: What will they find when I have my ultrasound on my rib cage the 15th (one doctor thinks it is just Lipomas in the spaces between the rib bones with one large one wrapping around my right side) and what will they find in my Left Hip on the MRI on 7-8-2016. The last MRI I had they thought it was either Giant Cell Tumor or a Rare Cancer called Chondroblastoma.

But as scared as I am– I am trusting God either way.

I do have a request though, I want to be put on every prayer chain list across the world, please. My Husband needs me. Please pray that his vision would be restored as well. This is war and I do battle on my knees with the Word of God. I am asking for Prayer Warriors to join me.ReplyCancel

What a pretty card and the lace just adds a perfect touch. What’s on my mind? Sadness (lost two friends in two days), working on organizing my craft room, trying to reach my “long arm quilter” to quilt my grandson’s quilt, so, so many things. But most of all, I am so thankful for family, friends, and the many blessings I haveReplyCancel

Beautiful sentiment and card. How did you get the swirls of pearls on? I find it very difficult to get them on and still keep the pattern. What’s on my mind…..so many things. I thought when I retired I would be up to date on everything but I find I am further behind than ever. I have been really thinking about it.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card and a wonderful text, which i have copied into my ‘thoughts to treasure book’. There are quite a few from you in it.

My daughter in law and son are weighing heavy on my mind. She has breast cancer only diagnosed in March and already it has spread to her bones…… They have put her into early menopause and are switching off her ovaries so there dreams of a family are dashed too.
This week i can’t see beyond the blackness of it all…..much prayer needed please.ReplyCancel

You always inspired and today is no different with this stunning card with a lovely sentiment. Happy to hear you are feeling better. I will be praying for your full recovery.
On my mind is mu hubby, Gene. We are getting ready to head to Minnesota so he can have a specialized open heart surgery at Mayo. It’s a surgery that is done only at specific hospitals. I’m so thankful there is a surgery to help him but it’s scary to think of him going through this. Prayers are much appreciated! Surgery is June 22 but we are going early to spend time with my daughter who lives there.ReplyCancel

Simply, you are inspiring! What’s on my mind? Sadness for my brothers & sisters. When mom died they took whatever they wanted. I now forgive them but won’t forget. My life is much more serene without their drama!ReplyCancel

Gratitude is on my mind today and every day. I am grateful for the feeling of having “enough. We are not independently wealthy from a financial standpoint, but we do have a comfortable life. Sure there are things we’d like to change, and one day will, however, right here, right now we have enough. And for this I give thanks!!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Here’s hoping you are feeling much better now.
This card is gorgeous !! and the sentiment is very profound, I love it. I love the lace too, it adds a pretty ‘elegance’ to your card.
What’s on my mind – the lack of time for the amount of tasks that I need to do !!

On my mind today is relieving my husband of summer project of stripping off the old stain on our deck. He is older and has taken on a job too much for him, but you know how some men are. I know the signs when he is fatigued and his back is hurting so it is time for me to step in and say I am through doing what I wanted today so what can I do for you. He doesn’t want to bother me with his summer project but at the same time it is better to know when to take over. We have been married 48 yrs. for better or worse and we do it together. Amen to that.Becca the sentiment on this card is wonderful and so true. Thank you.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
So sorry you have been sick. What is on my mind now? Well my daughter (Special needs) had surgery last Tuesday and came through in stellar manner. On returning home from hospital Wednesday, received a call Wed. evening that my sister in Ohio had fallen and broke her hip. So the two of them are on my mind and my prayers.
Today’s card is beautiful as always. My favorite day of the week is Friday when your day of giving card is shown. I never miss it.
