If you haven’t already jumped into Christmas preparations, are you ready to sleigh it?  Today we are sharing the Amazing Paper Grace November 2020 Die of the Month – Pop Up 3D Vignette Poinsettia Sleigh.  This one is a little bit different because it folds down flat for mailing as do all the dies in the 3D Vignette lines.

Poinsettia Sleigh Details

What better for Christmas than a Christmas Sleigh?  This one is 3D and I can think of oh, so many ways to use it.  This die can be used as flat detail on a 2D surface but transforms into a 3D showpiece so easily that we’re happy you will have both options.  I love to create high end dies that double as a decoration piece in November of each year.  Let’s just call it icing on the cake for the holidays.  It’s really a satisfying venture to grab a cup of coffee and sit down to put it together as it is to set it out on the table.

Today we want to inspire you to think of different combinations using the Poinsettia Sleigh.  Here’s what we had in mind:

  1. Table Center Piece
  2. Table Setting Favor
  3. Filled with Candy and Goodies
  4. Part of a Wonderland Menagerie
  5. Flat 2D on the front of a card

My Pop Up 3D Vignette Poinsettia Sleigh Card

For my project today, I pulled together a couple of quick money holder cards for Christmas.  I assembled the sleigh as normal and nestled a little box behind the first sleigh so that my gift card or my money bills could slip into.

Designer Tip:  Stacking and slightly offsetting two of the sleighs creates the illusion of depth without an excessive amount of bulk.  In between sleighs stack 3 or four pieces of adhesive foam.

Inspiration for Pop Up 3D Vignette Poinsettia Sleigh

I absolutely love the holidays.  For “All Things Christmas”, I just can’t get enough.  Especially this year, it will be something to be savored, something to be thankful for, and something that will let us look forward to the future and getting back to normal.  I challenged myself to create something that could be left sitting out – something that would be a showpiece.  What better way to do that, than another vignette type card that can also hold things.

The place that my soul starts is always with “traditional” Christmas.  It’s always the icing on the cake, the first picture in the stack.  When I look back on my traditional pictures each year, I consider the box checked.  But, there’s so much to be said for non-traditional colors.  So the lovely thing is that this little sleigh wears them all so well.  Whether it is red, green and gold or icy shades of blue and silver – there’s no doubt when you see the layout, that Christmas is coming or better yet, Christmas is here.  Yep, we actually start celebrating when we throw our hearts into the preparation.

I couldn’t resist but to pair the sleigh with the little deer from my Christmas Cascade Collection.  Can’t you just imagine this little sleigh tied on to a little gift?

And the blue flowers for this sleigh were inspired by Creative Team Member Patricia Manhire.  I absolutely fell in love with them.  You’re in luck!  She teaches how to make them, step-by-step, in one of our Learning Units in the Amazing Paper Grace Creative Encouragement Facebook Group.   That, along with over 100 other tutorials will help to get you ready for Christmas, is what we’ve been up to this past month.

As always, I had to do a flat card.  I’ve been doing slimline for many years so I’m so glad to see everyone embracing the long/tall cards.  I thought it was a perfect way to showcase the sleigh.  So there, just as easily as you have something 3D, you can have the conventional 2D card as well.

As always you know we have something up our sleeves.  There are so many fun dates coming up.

    These sleighs are absolutely gorgeous and I want to try my hand at replicating them. I would like to know what kind of paper you used for the poinsettias, what you sprayed on them before using the ball-tip, and what the flower centers are (are they available at my local craft store and what should I look for). You can tell I have not done any projects like these; I mostly scrapbook flat things. All of your designs are so fanciful and elegant, perfect for the holidays. Thank you.ReplyCancel

      Hi Becky,

      I used white glue to assemble and all of the papers were purchased at Joann’s – they are Bazill.

      For the Traditional Sleigh
      The Red is Bazill Phoenix and the Green is Bazzill Guacamole. From the feel these are 80lb papers. The gold is foil cardstock from Michaels. For the stems, I had to double them up because my flowers were heavy.

      For the White and Silver Sleigh
      The white paper it Michaels Dove White 110lb paper. I also used their silver mirror card stock.

      The flowers are just as simple as they look in the video. I just spritzed with plain water and the dabbed the excess away.

      The stamens might be a little elusive but I have found them before at Hobby Lobby in the cake decorating section. If you can’t find anything simply glue a pearl there. There is also a die in the set that will cut the berries.

      It’s really a fun set and may take about 30 minutes for the first one. :-)ReplyCancel

    Oh Becca, just love the little sleigh! Didn’t do last months because I was in the process of selling my house and moving into a Mobile Home Community. Still don’t have my craft room up and running but labeled all the boxes so shouldn’t be too much of a challenge putting it all back together. Looking forward to getting the sleigh. Reminds me of winters back in NY.

My Basket Using 3D Pop Up Vignette Camera

Today I made a sweet little basket.  You can never have enough for delivering a stash of candy or goodies for someones desk.  So simple to make, make your favorite box that is at least 3″ tall.  Cut and embellish two cameras with your favorite ephemera and mount them on the front and back.

Designer Tip:  Do the unexpected!  Embellish your box with a decorative flourish on the lens, just for that extra little bit of flair.
