My Tag Solution

A good friend was an inspiration for the project I’m sharing today.  She travels often and we traded stories about how all luggage looks alike and when it comes to the moment of truth when grabbing your bag from the conveyor belt, she has inadvertently grabbed someone else’s bag.  The reverse has happened as well, someone grabbed her bag.  You can tell the people who are determined to make sure their bag is unique, you know, it’s the bag that has 5 bright colors of yarn wrapped around the whole bag – yuck!!  The other night on TV I saw where they described a new scam where people to simply come in the airport and take bags from the conveyor belt and simply take them home to harvest them for treasure.  I’m still shaking my head over that one.

I found this little box (at Hobby Lobby) that I thought would be cute for some custom made luggage tags.  I decorated the outside by adding the wire handle and some distressed embellishments on the outside.  I used a JustRite Font – Brayton Upper Case to personalize the project.  Using Spellbinders Tags Five I cut and distressed a kraft colored tag with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink then stamped Luggage on one and Tags on the other.    I purchased the clear tag holder from Hobby Lobby and removed the innards so that I could make my own inserts.

I made a separate set of inserts in various colors that say name, address and phone here again using JustRite Brayton Font in a 25 point size.  Then for the flip side I made a variety of different tags that can be changed out on whim.  They all fit neatly in the holder and can come out when it’s time to pack the next bag.

I made the tags out of images I had hanging around my desk.  When coloring for a card I often stamp out two of three of the image so that I can get a feel for how to color it.  So these are my extras – I just cut them large enough to fit into the card holder.

That’s it for now, working on more things to share, so I ‘ll be back soon.

    Ah, Bekka.

I thought we would all be able to recognize your luggage by a large luscious bow.

Kidding aside, I love this idea and I have a friend who travels constantly. This would be just the gift for her.

Also, for people coming to a retreat, a tag like this could be included with registration materials, and later become a name tag!

Aha! I love it when the light goes on!ReplyCancel

Ha-ha….you made me laugh. My DH has just been to New Zealand and I tied a red ribbon on the handle. (it wsn’t wrapped around the bag). I’m so glad his luggage didn’t get lifted.
Your bag looks beautiful. What an inovative idea. I love the vintage look and the distressing. Love the tag as well.

Love the box. I would love it as well for an ATC box to take to conventions if ATC’s would fit.

I would like to warn people though not to have there name, addresse and telephone too visible in the airport when they are leaving. Lots of thieves look around and take notes and while they are gone have a visit to their houses. I always put mine on on the return trip.ReplyCancel
