Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Filigree Delight - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Hi there friends!   As I was rummaging though my card bins; I wanted something for Day of Giving Friday that resonates with me today.  This hits the nail squarely on the head.   This is where my head has been.  I’m letting myself dream.  I’m daring myself not to be held back by any physical limitations or any limitations that anything or anyone else would exert.  I’m putting my ‘courage’ arrow in the bow and gonna let it fly and be giddy about where it lands because it can only mean an adventure is about to begin.

A Year of Yes.
I listened to Shonda Rimes (award winning writer) speak about her ‘year of yes’.  She shook her own life up by saying ‘yes’ to things in the past that she thought she should not hope for, things that she dare not dream, things she originally thought frivolous on the outside.  By saying yes, it opened a world of undiscovered joy.  This week for me that took the form of finally saying yes to a trip I want to take, a solution to a health problem, a purchase I’m going to make and a little walk with forgiveness.  Whew!  I’m so conservative, with a well-meaning level-headedness, but after all that saying yes to finding new adventure, I’m light in my soul and on my feet.  (Hold that thought)….

What Do You Dream?
In the mean time, today is Day of Giving Friday.  If you’re not familiar with Day of Giving Friday, every Friday I give away a card to a reader who leaves a comment – here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.  Here’s an older (classic) card made from Spellbinders Filigree Delight – the sentiment is dear to my heart.   For your comment today – We create our tomorrows by what we dream today.  Is there something you can open your heart to and fully dream?  Is there something you can say yes to?  Tell us!
post-header-bottom
You all keep me so honest.  Now that I told you that I’ve dared to dream, I can’t take it back :-)  Perhaps as I dream these things into reality I can post about them.  I hope!  In the meantime,  I hope you are getting ready for a wonderful, wonderful weekend.  I’ll be back soon, hopefully with something  . . .  made at home with loving hands :-)

Such a beautiful card – I have so many dreams but perhaps the one I really need to work on and “make” happen is to get back in shape and be healthier.ReplyCancel

Beautiful pink creation you have here. Love the silk ribbon. You have challenged me to “stay on tract” with what’s true. I do not need to fear the unknown or failure as sometimes those have been unwelcome companions. They inhibit and destroy hope. So yes, I’m gonna try some stuff too that may not make it to the mailbox but certainly will be an adventure. My grandson at 4 had a saying, “a New Day, a New Adventure.” Now a family motto.ReplyCancel

I love the card. I am living my dream. We built out beach house 8 years ago. My husband and ai retired last spring with intentions of spending most of our time there We have had family responsibilities and didn’t get to be here as much as we would have liked. Hopefully 2016 will offer that opportunity to us. God is so good.ReplyCancel

  • Bonnie TFebruary 12, 2016 - 11:57 am

LOVE the card! I sure wouldn’t want my dream (nightmare, actually) of last night to become a reality. But the kind of dreams I’m in charge of when I’m awake would include becoming very brave and comfortable with driving in the city. I don’t like to drive but having moved to a metro area from a rural area means being very limited unless I gain more confidence behind the wheel.ReplyCancel

What an amazing card here again Becca. This is the card, that had me to ask a local craftstore ehre to go all the way to get these dies here, and I finally got it here just before christmas.
If I should go for a dream about something, it should probably be to fight the doctors and do more of what I want to do than what they keep telling me I can, because often I feel they try to keep us down a bit, and not to take any chances, but it also often makes me feel stucked.ReplyCancel

  • Wanda ThomasFebruary 12, 2016 - 12:17 pm

I have to be honest: I’m living the dream. I know that won’t always be true but for now I’m putting the ship on autopilot and enjoying the ride.ReplyCancel

  • Clare WFebruary 12, 2016 - 12:18 pm

Hi Becca. Well apart from dreaming of owning all your new dies…. Ha! A bigger craft room would be nice. And I’d love to visit the US and go to Michaels and Hobby lobby. Think I could spend quite a few days and a small fortune if I did! Better start dreaming of a lottery win then! But seriously now, finding happiness in what ever you have is best I think rather than wishing for what you don’t have. They say you don’t appreciate what you have until its taken away. That’s so true I think. So I prefer to count my blessings. Happy weekend.ReplyCancel

I would like to be able to purchase products at wholesale and not retail. Otherwise I would not be able to make a profit from my business endeavors. I would also like to start my own blog and get recognized by stamp companies who would want me to showcase their products. I just have no idea how to start that process.ReplyCancel

    I have Dreams:

To get closer to God and to be faithful in my Daily Walk with Jesus.

Our Vow Renewal (Been working on this one for 4 years now).

Reconciliation with both of my Children….

To be Healed and made Whole again. (Facing 3 different Cancers Testing being held up for Approval on)

To own a home with my own Craft Room.

To Run my Crafting Blog professionally.

To be able to Crochet again without pain.

{Ya’ll might find this one silly but please do not laugh.} I Dream of proper fitting bras. I cannot afford them.

Beautiful Card Becca! The Lacy Dies remind me of just how fragile our faith in our dreams can be but when we trust in the Maker of our Dreams (God) there is nothing that can stand in our way, although sometimes we may have to take Detours we always achieve the dreams that God put into our hearts when we make ourselves willing to do His Will.ReplyCancel

Pretty card! I’m making some some post-retirement dreams come closer to reality…a year long training process to come certified so I can train others in lean ironing about my children’s disability…a really common one with a big stigma attached, making it hard for parents to get accommodations and society to even speak about and address….and a smaller time involved one through our church working with those recovering and moving along a path of healing from domestic violence. Saying yes…feeling lighter…right along with you. Blessings with your courage arrows! Let them fly!ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca. I truly hope your week has been blessed. Tackling ones ideas and dreams can be daunting to say the least. My constant dream is very simple. To get my craft room in order. I live in a constant state of ‘mess’ and can’t seem to get it right. I HAVE to have the makings of 3-4 or even 5 cards going all at the same time. I have a talk with myself all the time about it, but don’t seem to be able to change it. I’m fairly organized, but I really need to stop looking for another project to tackle when I’ve already got one going. I am my own worst enemy. On that note, Happy Valentines Day!! Hi, Becca,
First off let me wish you and my fellow readers a Happy Valentine’s Day!
When you posted your survey, you asked about what would keep me connected…it’s this beautiful sharing. You bless all of us by being such a wonderful example.
I’ve had a long-term dream to heal my relationship with money. A couple of years ago I said yes to getting out of debt and now I can see light at the end of the tunnel. An even bigger yes would be able to help others. Reading through some of the comments here, my heart would love to say, tell me what you need and I will provide it for you. Next thought, it’s possible…dream bigger! My prayers and blessings go out to you and all those sharing today that we know, in a greater way, the power of our dreams and the power in supporting each other.
    Love, SandyReplyCancel

I love this card, colors and all! Lovely creation from you. The depth is nice that you created on this card. Sounds like you are in for wonderful and exciting adventures! I am so HAPPY for you and proud of you for starting with gusto on your dreams. “Let the Good Times Roll”!!!!! I know you can do these things!!!!!!! If you can dream it, it will be reality. Now to your question: Is there something I can open my heart to and fully dream? Uhmmmm? This is not a life altering dream, but today I needed to draw an elephant and sponge colors onto card stock to make something look like the “Serengeti” at sunset. Now I told you this was not a life altering dream, but I did need to do a lot of dreaming to get this card done. I never took art classes, but choose to take band instead of art at school. It would have been nice to have been able to take both electives during school. Seems I am doing more “art” now than playing a musical instrudent or three! It took me all day to do this card, with a lot of dreaming and a few prayers, to get this card done. But, I did get this card completed and it’s not half bad. I even amazed myself in this endeavor. Yeh!! Now I can get back to the “frilly” cards I prefer to make. Being serious now: it seems I am in a rut and have not been dreaming of things to do “outside of the box”, nor dreaming of places to visit to enrich my life. You have suggested a thought and now I must stretch those brain cells of mine to contemplate giddy possiblities! Hello brain, are you still there?ReplyCancel

Hello Dear Becca, This was a timely “incident” – because I don’t believe in accidents like this! This message is the story of my life for the past 5 years! Praise God for His grace, mercy, kindness and love… EVERYTHING in my life has changed and is changing and I embrace it all. This card touched my heart so deeply, it would be an honor and such a blessing to keep it as a reminder should I be so graced as to be chosen for your giveaway. No matter what, it will be a blessing to someone for sure. Thank you for your constant caring and sharing with us all, for your kind – open pure heart. God bless you in all you set your hand to my friend.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card. You always create such beautiful cards.
Everyone has dreams, but how many really pursue them? I dream of a house that is clutter free! Being raised by parents who lived thru the great depression, that didn’t throw anything away if it could be repaired, refurbished, or clothing re-created for the younger child–then into quilts. It’s so very hard for me to get rid of the things that still have “life” in them. I dream of a clutter free home, now I just need the courage to pitch the clutter!ReplyCancel

  • Sandra SmithFebruary 12, 2016 - 9:36 pm

Oh wow! I adore this stunning card and it’s pink….my favorite color. It would look so lovely framed and hanging on the wall in my craft room so I’m hoping.

I would like to say yes to going back to physical therapy. When I fractured my pelvis in three places plus broke my shoulder last year, I had no idea the path I would travel. In patient rehab, at home rehab and eventually out patient rehab until I exhausted all my benefits for 2015. Surgery on my shoulder 6 months in forced me to chose focusing on my shoulder. Nerve damage in my back has left me in a wheelchair but I realize I need more PT to keep my muscles strong. It seems like it should be easy to go but going back feels like a step back plus my husband was recently diagnosed with a serious heart condition which requires surgery on Feb. 25 plus the likelyhood of open heart surgery shortly thereafter. I’ve put my own health issues aside as we cope with my husband’s life threatening condition. However, I need to find some balance in my life so i can be there for my husband but take care of myself too.

Thank you Becca for this question today.ReplyCancel

  • Carol H.February 12, 2016 - 9:39 pm

What to say yes to….a question I had to ponder for quite a while. Sure makes you think. I can say yes to accepting myself and being ok with who I am. In spite of people I love making me feel that I’m not enough. It’s hard. They have some valid points and I’m working on those. But I have to not let those comments define me. I know my heart.

Good prompt for today’s comment. Whew. There is joy in every day. And I thank God for each moment!! I have many blessings! And to you I say, you go girl!!!! We can all do what we set our hearts to!!ReplyCancel

  • Teresa DoyleFebruary 12, 2016 - 9:47 pm

Such a beautiful card (and sentiment) Becca.
Hmmm, Something I can open my heart to and fully dream/say yes to? A good question….
I dream of just being totally comfortable in my own skin where I don’t feel “less than” anyone else. I know we are all coming from different places and everyone feels this way to some degree. So why do we always feel so strongly that we ourselves are flawed???? (Does this make sense?)ReplyCancel

  • MichelleFebruary 12, 2016 - 10:26 pm

I have recently discovered I can say yes to things I have had and let them go. Passing them down to my daughters and granddaughters with stories on how I received them either from other relatives or direct family members. It is sad to let go but at the same time my heart flew because they all now have a bit of history and and can create their own with the item. So I say YES YES YES!!!ReplyCancel

    Good morning Becca,
Hooray Becca one that i actually might be able to recreate as it is beautiful and in such a lovely shade of pink. I love your cards that you create as they are always so different and out of the norm but always just so elegent that i love so much. I hope that your dream takes to flight and becomes a reality for you this year flower. You have already accomplished so much through just dreaming of what could be and seeing those dreams become a reality and for me, i am glad that it has for you lovely lady. They say everything in America is bigger, well for the Americans that i have had the sheer pleasure of meeting that has to include their hearts. Having had that pleasure at close range(long story) they were the most considerate, helpful and kindest people that i could wish to meet. I don’t have a dream at the moment except perhaps being able to walk a bit better and not be in so much pain but it at least tells me that i am alive and i am lucky as there are some that are a lot worse off than i, so i am lucky.
Have a lovely weekend flower and follow that dream you have as you are on this earth for such a short time, so make the most of every opportunity that you can.
    Love and crafty hugs

Sorry, I missed out yesterday but I still wanted to comment. I too have decided to say yes to things I want to do, and not let the what if hold me back. I have planned a scrapbooking retreat with my Texas peeps in June. A Disney trip with Scrappin Savvy friends in October. If I can’t go well It will be money well spent. I look at it this way, Prepare as if all will be well, because if the time comes and I am well and did not prepare and pay I will be more disappointed. So I am dreaming and thinking positive. I know I am limited but I am not dead YET!! I am going to do as much as possible from now on. So you do what you want and dream on sweet Becca!!

Spring 2016 Die Collection List - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning friends, today’s (long) post is one I’ve intended to do for some time.  Behind the scenes I get questions and when I get lots of the same question, then I know it’s time to do something, make something or write a post on that topic.  When I recently began showing my newest die collection, several of you wrote and asked if there was a listing of the dies.  Ask, and you shall receive – I’ve created lists of each collection and the sku number so that when you are searching for it, it is easily found on the Spellbinders website, with your favorite online retailer and on the internet.  Also, I wanted to ask, if you are buying your dies from any of the retailers that allow you to leave a review, I hope you will do that.  As a consumer, I carry my ipad with me everywhere and if I’m thinking about buying anything – I read reviews so that I can rank my purchases.  I buy dies too :-)

Click on each picture to download the pdf list.  Hopefully each list will be of some help in identifying my dies and organizing your collection. Following each list is a scan of the Spellbinders Catalog showing what each die looks like from new Spellbinders Catalog.  It’s my understanding that these pages will be available for download from the Spellbinders website, in the meantime, I made quick scans for you to see.

They know Ann will not be able to resist almost all of them!!LOL Nice to have them all in one spot. I once had a Spellbinder catalog but so much has been added that it is no longer up to date. Hi there sweeties!  I’m so tickled to say that you have been anticipating something in the mail from me, it’s finally on the way.  Everything was put in the mail earlier this week!  I had quite the backlog of domestic and international mail and tied the post office agent up for about 20 minutes!  Pop over and check the Giveaway Page – you’ll see that we have a new winner for last Friday and all other packages have gone out.   Now to catch up on my backlog of messages!  Oh, and you’ll want to stop by tomorrow, I have a couple of first time downloads.

Ohhh, love this card! I LOVE elegant cards too, unfortunately clean and simple is about all I can manage…although I have hope one of these days I’ll do one with dies like you do a lot of that turns out elegant and beautiful! LOL So far they have seemed more busy to me, when I try them…but I’ll keep trying when I can. :-))

Hmmm…when I’m creativily stuck…I usually walk away and hope when I come back, I get inspired to finish it. LOL I also go look on pinterest for ideas ALL THE TIME. I’m still fairly new…well a year into being a card maker, but have had some down time in that year cause of being busy with life…so don’t usually manage a card without first getting an idea for one online. Course…a lot of the time they don’t turn out at all like I started them out to be, but thats ok. LOLReplyCancel

When I’m creatively stuck I watch YouTube videos, watch TV or read. Sometimes watching what others are doing sparks something that will get me back to creating again. Sometimes just taking a break from crafting helps. I discovered this during our recent move. I had no craft room for about 6 weeks and other than coloring (I did leave out pre-stamped images and Copics for part of the time) I was on a crafting hiatus. It was refreshing and when I could finally craft again I had a new spark.

I love today’s card. It’s so elegant yet simple enough that I can give it a try. :) Thanks!!ReplyCancel

When I’m stuck on a project, I usually spend time cleaning up my supplies. Not only doe sit improve my space, but looking through everything I have with an eye to keep or toss also shows me those items that would look good on my current project.

Of course, once that happens, I go back to the project, so there’s always more cleaning to do!

Blessed Friday and a wonderful weekend!

I love this card because it’s doable in a short time frame. It is lovely and will touch a heart that receives it.
When my umpa leaves to make cards I do take a break to start. Then I peruse several blogs to find inspiration usually. Most times inspiration comes from something quite simple, like a ribbon put just the right way or a certain paper composition. Today’s card does help a lot with the side die cut. Thanks for asking Becca! Good day to you.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, Such a beautiful card. So simple but the design behind it is well thought out and your details matter. I have this stamp and will retrieve it from my backlog. What I do when the ideas stop is go through pins of the best designers, you are #1, and find something I like and can do. Often the leftover scraps lead me to something entirely new. This is one of the reasons that I like it so much when you use the ‘oldies and goodies’ dies and stamps because I can go to them immediately and maybe use different colors or ribbons. Ooh, I love this card! The light green and pink..so springy! The first thing I do when I get stuck is go play with the dog and go for a walk. All the while, the card is in the back of my mind. If it is later in the day, I will likely leave it overnight, unless I need to get back to it because there is a time crunch. If that is the case, then back to the Cave, and I search saved pics and ideas from magazines for inspiration, then do the same from computer files. I’ve avoided Pinterest because I know I would waste time just card gazing and not really working…might go to Splitcoaststampers or to trusted designers or companies. Usually by the time I sleep on it, my mind has been working long enough to get moving again. You always provide me with inspiration…

    Hello Becca.
I really like the background, sentiment and design of today’s card. As to the question of what I do first when stuck without any creativity: I usually go to my binders of templates that also include samples of cards. If that does not spark an idea, I move to my stored images on my Pinterest board. I have quite a few of your cards stored there for inspiration. This usually does the trick and my dry spell of creativity is cured.ReplyCancel

    Hey, Becca!
When I get stuck there are several things I do until I get inspired. I look at my stash, watch Create and Craft and Paper Wishes, look at magazines (Tattered Lace, Hunkydory, Crafts and Things or any one at Barnes and Noble), look at Paper Wishes, and now (I’m new to blogs)look at your blog, Spellbinders and a few others like Stephanie Weightman and Flowers, Ribbons and Pearls. I hope this helps! If I just can’t even get the energy to want to create, I pop on down to the beach/ocean and renew my spirit on the beach- no matter what the weather or season.

First of all, your card is “simply” beautiful and very elegant. It is not over the top but is just right.

I have two ways I get my juices flowing. #1: I look at colors, usually papers or patterns in the stash. I have a small shelf with colored paper and just looking usually begins the triggering process. #2:I have several craft catalogs and magazines I thumb thru when I am stuck. I am not looking for an exact idea just inspiration.

Last night I got stuck on two cards, my brother in laws 25th anniversary card and my husbands Valentine Day card. To the color stash I went and once I saw teal & a golden beige the card just fell into place. The Valentine card is coming together with red suede rose dies and of all things a little sock monkey face. (not sure how that is going to turn out but it will certainly be worth a laugh)ReplyCancel

    Happy Friday, Becca,
Your post is another wonderful reason to look forward to Fridays! I just love this sweet card. You frequently design cards that allow me to consider new possibilities, as with this one. The aperture of the circle extending to the edge of the layer is really visually interesting and the jewels providing closure are really elegant.
I have learned that being tired is a creative-buster. Sometimes just perusing through my stash will spark ideas but, if I am totally at ‘square one’-searching Pinterest works every time!

Well, when my Creativity gets stuck I usually take a break and go lay down and read a book. Not just any book but an adventurous historical romance book :o). Always gets my creativity flowing.

Other times I might watch a Youtube video.

If it is too cold to go for a walk I just gaze out my patio window at the birds feeding. Amazing little creatures they cannot provide for themselves yet they are never with want.ReplyCancel

First thing I do when stuck – sit and look at my supplies and fossick through my NBUS tray and sometimes my ‘promise box’ (I promise I will use these bits one day!) and then discipline myself to use something from one or other, and sometimes both.

When looking at blogs and see something I like, I bookmark it in my favorites under tabs like ‘neat card techniques’ or mixed media, or watercolor, etc. Then, when I’m stuck for ideas, I just have to figure out what I’m in the mood to make and go through my favorites tab for things I already know I’d love to make. When I am absolutely stuck, I play the “What If” game. I ask myself what if I did this or that with my supplies and then try it out to see what it does. Sometimes it’s a disaster and sometimes it works out quite well. I don’t count the time as wasted because I learned about something and what can or can’t be done. Very handy for future reference.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card. Love the clean and simple lines with a beautiful background stamp. When I get stuck, I have a tendancy to do something outdoors – yard work, go for a walk, or just sit on the patio with tea in hand and enjoy nature. It usually unclogs my mind and that usually works for me. If I still need some inspiration, I start looking at pintrest and web sites.

    Good morning lovely Becca,
I am lucky in the fact that i have the Ochil hills out my window, they are the first thing i look at in the morning as they change day by day and hour by hour, so i suppose they are what inspires as it brings back memories from times gone bye for me. Where ever i have lived i have been able to see these beautiful works of mother nature and they have always brought me comfort and a sense of peace.
Today’s card is a beauty Becca with such for me a reassuring look back into the past. My Nanna Kikke had a wallpaper in her bedroom along similar lines as she liked dainty florals and there was a different one in each of the 3 bedrooms. Isn’t it funny where your memories come back when you see something. Thank you Becca for a beautiful card and bringing back some of my memories,
    love and crafty hugs
