JustRite Papercraft March 2014 New Release Day 3

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using JustRite Magnolia Vintage Labels Seven Die and SVG
Good morning sweet friends!  Today is Day 3 of new releases at JustRite Papercraft and there are new goodies to show you today.  I’m sharing an elegant card with a sweet magnolia on it and I’m strutting like a peacock because my magnolia doesn’t look like it was cut out by a first grader.  Wanna know why?  The reason why is because with this release JustRite is offering SVG files that match their stamps. Typically they will offer SVG files for things you would attempt to fussy cut.  Created to use along with the metal dies we use every day, the SVG cutting files work fabulously to compliment the line of JustRite Custom Spellbinders Dies you’ve been used to seeing as well as the fabulous Spellbinders dies we all collect hoard.  I mentioned to Kellie that normally my card would never see that lovely magnolia because I’d have to cut it out and my cutting is so totally unprofessional that it would be a no go….  I’d look at the card and my jaggedy cutting wouldn’t look as professional as the clean cut lines of all my Spellbinders and get pulled off.  Well no more :-)   You can see all the new SVG’s that are being offered with new releases this week HERE and the one I used today is HERE all the new stamp designs areHERE.
WRBF-4166-2014
So here’s what I did….I created my card knowing I wanted the layered goodness of that Magnolia so I cut it out with my die cutting machine.  There were two version offered,
one that is an ‘exact cut’ — it matches the stamp exactly and one that has a thin border around the edge.  I cut one of each knowing I wanted the bordered cut on the bottom (I like that look) and the second one was as exact cut.  Why?  The exact cut is just like if you had fussy cut by hand – I wanted to layer up the magnolia so my upper layer is the same as the bottom except I did cut off the bottom leaves.  So there you have it.  Lol, this particular card saw three different versions of the Magnolia (colored, not colored, colored differently) before I settled on this one.  So I paired this SVG up with two of my go-to dies – JustRite Spellbinders Custom Die – Vintage Labels Seven and Spellbinders Foliage Flourish.

Beautiful, I love the pearls on the background, love the soft coloring on the flower and leaves, like how you did the layering. I love to have diecuts for things but it can get expensive when I have to buy die cuts ( I don’t have a machine to cut SVG files, so I still do fussy cutting, and it doesn’t bother me when I have lot’s of time.ReplyCancel

  • christiMarch 7, 2014 - 9:33 am

this is so pretty. I totally agree with you about the first grader fussy cutting. i’m embarrassed to say I can’t cut for anything. now I have a question for you. can you give us an overview of the different machines you have used and their benefits and drawbacks? big order, I know. I got a cricut that I rarely use and I see all these die cuts and don’t want yet another machine that I won’t use. any help would be appreciated. thanks.ReplyCancel

  • Norah McPheeMarch 7, 2014 - 9:33 am

    Good afternoon Becca,
I love the clean lines of your beautiful card. I end up re cutting die cut shapes as i don’t like the hit or miss affair that they have with the industries die cutting machines. I know it doesn’t matter is what i keep getting told , but it’s just one of these things that either it has uniformed edge around it completely or it is exactly cut, not a bit of both. Sorry it’s just one of those little idiosyncrasies that get to me, but a beautiful card.
    Love and crafty hugs

Very elegant, Becca. I really like it.
I’m not familiar with SGV files except that you need a cutting machine like the silhouette, I think. Are there other machines you can use? Do you cut the image out and then try to stamp the image on it? Is tat hard to line up? I just don’t know much about it. Can you explain?
    Thanks.ReplyCancel

Your card is SOOO ELEGANT & GORGEOUS AGAIN BECCA!!! TOTALLY STUNNING!!! My idea about “fussy cutting?” Well, I am one who can’t afford an electronic machine. I would be NICE, but the $$$ just isn’t there! So, I CAN “fussy cut!” It does take me longer….and, my friends & family KNOW that I have put in ALOT OF TIME & CARE on their creations! AND they APPRECIATE IT!!! Electronic Machines, NICE IF, you can afford it, but NOT NECESSARY!!! :)ReplyCancel

Becca: I don’t believe for one second that your hand cutting would be unprofessional. If anything, your work is too good. Love the cardReplyCancel

  • Mary H.March 7, 2014 - 10:19 am

Just as wonderful as all your other cards! I must disagree with one comment you have written though. I’ve not seen any of your fussy cutting that ever looked bad! Or unprofessionally done. But I will agree that the SVG must make life a lot simpler to just grab the file, push a button, and zip your cut out is done. Every card of yours that I’ve ever seen, has looked simply beautiful with layers, S/Bs, ribbons & pearls. I can always pick out a “Becca” card. Hugs & Blessings.ReplyCancel

Great card – love that background stamp which I am going to use next week for a Mother’s Day card – divine isn’t it! I dont have a cutting machine and I dont like my fussy cutting unless it’s a really simple shape and even then I think twice! I much prefer a die to cut things out – as long as it’s aligned properly. I use a template – cut it out of plain paper first and then use the paper cut out as a templated to line up the die on the real thing – it just slots in – easy peasy! I’ve heard it said to fussy cut well move the card not the scissors – easier said than done for me!ReplyCancel

    Becca,
The card is beautiful, just change the sentiment, and I can see using this for a 50th wedding anniversary. I do a lot of fussy cutting, just like Norah, I’m very particular about my borders.ReplyCancel

Another wonderful Becca card! Very elegant. Fortunately, I have no fear of fussy cutting flowers or anything else for that matter, but am anxious to try using the SVG downloadable files anyway. I am thinking that it will save time!
    Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel

I learned to ”fussy cut” as a child playing with paperdolls. I was outraged when “punch out” paperdolls appeared. So I haven’t a problem with fussy cutting. I don’t have the means of using SVG programs, but would love to be able to. Your card, as usual, is very elegant.ReplyCancel

  • CraftysusanMarch 7, 2014 - 1:05 pm

Absolutely gorgeous as usual Becca. Don’t have the facility to digitally cut things so it is scissors for me. I’m really bad at cutting out so can take me several goes to get anything near passable.ReplyCancel

  • Anne (UK)March 7, 2014 - 1:13 pm

Oh this is superbly elegant, Becca. Love it!
I am sure your fussy cutting would be done to perfection!
I occasionally fussy cut, but prefer to die cut. I love the embossing element of Spellbinders dies, but it does make lining up tricky at times. I have a box of mis-aligned cut and stamped shapes which I can’t use and can’t bring myself to throw away either!
I now have a Brother ScanNCut and I am happy to say that I think fussy cutting will be a thing of the past for me as the machine will cut on the line or outside the line with a border which you can increase at 1mm increments as you wish. This makes for perfect layering and shadows.
I could be hanging up my scissors soon!
    Hugs

Love this card~ white and gold, can’t get more elegant than that! As for fussy cutting….I’ve done that since I was old enough to hold scissors in my hands and make cut outs of little girls and assorted clothes. (McCalls dolls if I recollect correctly). I just love to sit and cut out stuff still no matter how intricate. The down side is it takes so long! Therefore I do “cut” my time shorter by using fabulous dies! Thanks Becca for such inspiration card after card after card. They really do help me come up with ideas for mine. Hats off to you!ReplyCancel

  • ChelseaMarch 7, 2014 - 1:32 pm

Soooo beautiful, Becca. I love the option for digital cutting! I wonder though, did you use Vintage Tag dies to cut out the shape in the Vintage Labels Seven? I love that look in this card and was trying to figure out how you got the dimensional/raised effect for your sentiment. Absolutely gorgeous card!ReplyCancel

  • Robin in WAMarch 7, 2014 - 2:00 pm

Beautiful card!! How did you do the cross hatching?ReplyCancel

  • Becca FeekenMarch 7, 2014 - 2:26 pm

Ooops Chelsea, I’ve been caught red handed! I actually fussy cut the inside of that die. I had this card all made up in my mind before I made it, had almost finished it and when I went to use Vintage Tag to cut the middle, it bit off too much of my design. It would have been alright, but I wanted to preserve the inside border. So I (who never fussy cuts) fussy cut….don’t look too close tho’. I goofed on the right side which is why my magnolia is on that side. Darling, you have a keen eye and I am caught :-) Lol!!!!!ReplyCancel

  • Becca FeekenMarch 7, 2014 - 2:27 pm

Robin in WA, the cross hatching is a part of that lovely background stamp :-)ReplyCancel

Hi Becca…so Just Rite is selling svgs now…isn’t that interesting. I’m so happy to see they’re not asking an arm and a leg for them. I suppose I could order and download them now for future purchase of the stamps??

You don’t have to order both at the same time do you?

Or just use it on designer paper!

The details talked a lot about the silhouette…but the svgs would work with the cricut wouldn’t it?

Love your gorgeous card….that goes without saying…but everyone loves a little blog love so….it’s said! :)ReplyCancel

  • Vicky SchmidtMarch 7, 2014 - 4:23 pm

Beautiful card Becca. If the item to cut is very detailed than I will not bother but if it is bigger than I can cut it witha detail scissors.
    The svg’s sound like a great idea.ReplyCancel

  • barbara macaskillMarch 7, 2014 - 4:57 pm

Your card is so beautiful!! Love the magnolia!
I love fussy cutting but my after almost losing use of my thumb and two fingers last April it hurts my hand and I can only do a little at a time. I just love getting into all the little spaces and getting the paper out. It gives me a feeling of contentment. Sounds weird doesn’t it?
I have a Silhouette Cameo that I have had for a year and a half but have never used it. I just don’t want to lose crafting time trying to figure it out. One of these days I am going to bite the bullet and sit down and figure it out. At least that is what I keep telling myself (and hubby). I had a Cricut E2 but sold it because it limited me to what I could cut for images and that was why I got the Cameo.
That was when I got into fussy cutting and found out how much I like it. I have tons of SVG files so I am going to have to get with it because I really want to use those files! LOLReplyCancel

This is gorgeous and I too am not a fan of fussy cutting. But I have gotten better at it after learning to turn the paper and not my scissors. Worked better for me. Still like the dies better.ReplyCancel

I enjoy your blog. Thanks for the time your dedicate to providing creative and faithful inspiration.

I will admit that if I don’t plan to use a stamp/die set too often, I will fussy cut to save on the die. I prefer the nice finish of a die to cut. I am not aware of SVG files.

Sure wish I could take a class from you on the cutting tools.ReplyCancel

Beautiful, as always! Glad to know that the svgs are available from Just Rite now. I have a Black Cat Cougar my hubby bought me for Christmas a few years ago and I love tinkering with computer programs. They make a great addition to stamping. I can fussy cut, it will just be easier on the hands to use the Cougar. Have to learn how yet, but I’m up for a challenge!
    Have a great weekend!

    Hi Becca,
I don’t mind fussy cutting, I do a lot of 3Dpaper tole and some have to be fussy cut and other are pop outs, can’t do much cutting at times as I have bad arthritis in my fingers, but love doing it.
What a beautiful card, and I would love to get the back ground stamp you used on it.

    Hi Becca,
Once again a beautiful card! Everything about it is lovely! To join the fussy cutting debate! I too have been cutting out since days of paper dolls! Used to draw around existing clothes – design new ones and cut out! That was a blast from the past! However I, personally ,could not justify the cost of an electronic machine! The Grand Calibur will have to do!
    Thanks for all the inspiration,
    Love MyraReplyCancel

Becca – I love your cards and your attention to detail. I must admit I avoid fussy cuts like spiders, but I don’t have SVG files. The more I see your work the more I’m convinced I may have to invest in a machine that offers this capability. Thank you for another beautiful card!ReplyCancel
