Howdy, I’m back again with another new Cuttlebug embossing folder, this one is called Leafy Branch.  I rearranged the items on this card several times because I wanted to be stingy about how much of the leaves would be covered up – that’s how I settled with the half oval shape.  Here again I tried to keep things pretty simple.  The background is colored with chalks and I tried to use as light a touch as possible.  Once finished, I went over it with a chalk pencil, to add just a tiny bit of shading to the sides of the leaves.  The half oval is the largest of the set and is cut twice and offset just a little bit to give some dimension.   The left side scallop is done with the Fiskars Threading Water Border Punch.  Instead of lining it up to make a perfect scallop, I spaced it out and missed a scallop so that I could keep the flat edge of the paper.

The dotted embossed edge on the half ovals is another new Cuttlebug Embossing Folder…it’s very different though because it’s less than a half inch wide and as tall as the regular embossing folders.  This is a border embossing folder and there are five different borders in each set.  I know I’m going to love those because you can target different areas with a little bit of embossing without overwhelming.

I’m having fun with the Cuttlebug stuff so don’t be surprised if you see more.  In the meantime hoop and holler – it’s Friday!

Very very pretty card. I want to make one. Which border embossing folder did you use?ReplyCancel

Yes, I am loving, loving, loving the new Cuttlebug embossing folders.  This one is called Argyle.  I’m trying to keep things simple, but I feel a little bit naked without layers.  To emphasize the dimension on this embossing folder, I used soft chalks to add a little bit of color.  The background is then popped on a piece of metallic blue paper then attached to the background.  I’ve been using Fabriano Acquarello Watercolor paper because it gives such a deep impression when embossed.  It has a rough texture and takes chalk very differently than the smooth white Georgia Pacific cardstock I normally use.   I’ve also tried to use a little bit of depth with the border punch used at the top – it reminds me of a fancy valance.

I hope to have more this week using Cuttlebug items!

I’m so tickled that I got one of my new Cuttlebug Embossing Folders in the mail today.  I don’t know what made me order this particular one, but I just love the lone serene bird sitting in the tall grass.  I played with this folder for a long time trying to figure out ways to color it, but then settled on the simplicity of just painting the bird.  A couple of swipes with an aquapainter and I was done.

Stamps: Wordsworth

Becca, after I posted my response, I went back to read the others and I came to this conclusion…most of the cards I look at are over done and crowded with everything under the sun. I think that is why everyone seems to be drawn to your cards!! Instead of Elements…we want Elegance and you seem to capture that.ReplyCancel
