Another Milestone Blog Candy

by on July 7, 2010

I know you are wondering where I am but I’m really here, honest.  I’m working on some things in the background that I’ll be able to show you soon.    In the meantime I’m absolutely stunned about the response to my little photo book.  Gosh, this is just the icing on the cake – I was sailing high when I opened up the package and then to see all your awesome comments.  I’m just glowing with thankfulness today and I hope a small smidgen comes through the screen at you today, mwah!!   By the way, I normally leave links to my supplies but I didn’t have the link for Shutterfly.  Small world – someone from Shutterfly contacted me and if you want to zoom right in to where I created this photo book just follow this link: photobooks

So, I hit a super duper milestone yesterday – I reached 8 million page hits, and you know what that means!!   I thought I would share some goodies with you.  I have another one of the EK Success Punches I’ve been giving away in our Double Play – I love those punches!!  I also have a yo-yo maker that I hope someone would like to win.  They multiplied in my craft room and I have three new ones.  Actually for some odd reason I keep coming home with this size when I actually need the smaller size.  I’m too embarrassed to take it back because I think I’ve returned this same size two times before – yes, I know I must seem awfully eccentric to the ladies at this craft store.

Leave a comment for me letting me know of something that has come back from the past that has your heart singing or something you never want to see come back.   For example I was in heaven when chenille and felting came back but my daughter prays that stirrup pants will never, ever come back again.  I love it that being frugal has made a big comeback — somewhere along the line sewing and knitting made a comeback but I’d be okay if "big hair"  was gone forever :-)  I’m opening comments today – feel free to leave a comment every day through Sunday, July 11 at midnight.  Some time after that I’ll pick a winner using Random.org.  The winner will have 48 hours to reach out to me through my contact page to claim their prize.

Be blessed friends!!

Owls are my favorite trend that’s come back in style. I’m too young to have experienced the owl trend in the 70′s but I’m so into them now! I started a collection a year ago and have fun looking for them everywhere I shop! :)

In these hard times, I too am glad that saving is in fashion. I clip coupons, & shop sales…..anything I can do to save a little. One thing I never want to see come back would be…..poodle skirts! I love them when used as nostaliga, but not for every day! Am I dating myself?

Not only are you generous but hilarious!
I was going to say using coupons for sure, I am a big save type person…always trying to out do my total saved each week.
I would say I don’t want to see tube socks with shorts look come back. I hated when sports teams had that look. ewww

I would like to see the Green Stamps and Gold Bond Stamps come back. You know the ones that you collect at the grocery store with each purchase and then fill these little books with them, and then when you have enough completed books you can shop and get something for “free!” I still have a table lamp that I bought YEARS ago with them.

Oh, I love being frugal. That’s a much better word than cheap which is usually what I refer to myself as. I thought it was fun when the crocheted flowers made a comeback. I used to crochet and got out my supplies and just can’t seem to make one that I like now. But I’ll still keep trying. I’d like to see more needlework, like embroidery, make a comeback. You offer the best prizes, Becca. Thanks so much for your generosity.

I would love to see hand written thank you notes come back in style. Letting someone know how much they appreciate a gift would be wonderful. I do not want the starchy slips (criniline)(spelling???) come back. What a pain it was to starch my half slips to make the gathered skirts fan out. Love when you do these blog give a ways, not for the gifts but the comments. Of course I would love to win this set of goodies. I need it all including the yo yo maker.

Hi Becca,
I’m happy to see the comeback of the little knitted/crocheted flowers. I crochet so guess I should get to work on that. However, I donated all of my yarn to the Senior Citizen place up the road. Didn’t think I’d need it. I am into paper now. The joke’s on me. Have to talk to Mom or my BFF for their extras. This falls in to the “frugal” category, too, I think. Beautiful work. You’re amazing.

On my part, I save wherever and whenever I can by clipping those coupons out of the Sunday paper; but there is one thing that I hope doesn’t make a come-back and that is those bell bottom pants with fringe on the bottom, tight skirts, also go-go boots made famous by Nancy Sinatra. Hope to never see them again.

Wow! What a milestone. But you really deserve it!!! Oh my, what would I like to see come back. Well, I have to admit that most of you have said a lot of things I would like to see come back, as well as what I would like to see disappear or never come back. I hate stilleto heels. I love that frugality has returned, caring about our environment! I also love that gardening has made a comeback. What I would love to see make a comeback is modesty and the Gibson girl look. I loved that look and know it must give my age away. I am 72 years young.

Capri pants and peddle pushers!! I didn’t like them when they were in fashion and I still don’t like them…………….The art of the hand written letter or thank you note. Kids today text way too much and they can’t spell. Remember when handwriting was an art form? I think that’s why I love making handmade cards. I am able to express my thoughts in writing and it is something that lasts.

Something that has come back, after nearly 40 years, is a best friend from school. I thought we’d lost touch so many years ago (and we did), but it doesn’t feel that way. Feels like just a few weeks. Hi Becca,
something I never want to come back is the memory of my partner being dragged out of the surf unconscious and being worked on by the life savers for 40 minutes with CPR and heart starters until the paramedics arrived, he actually died on the beach and was revived. A week in ICU and a long time to get back to normal he is now 100%.
Someone was looking out for us that day.

I am so happy knitting is back. With great-grandchildren coming right and left, I am making all kinds of sweaters, caps and booties. It is so nice to have so many yarns and colors to choose from, and they are available nearby and online, something that wasn’t available a few years back. What I hope never comes back is the clunky, clod-hopper, square-toed shoes of years back. The new styles make any leg look better. I may not wear stilletto heels, but at least thin heels are out there.

I wish bodies that are too bare would go out. Ladies evidently have not looked in the mirror before they leave the house by the way they look. Fat women in skimpy clothing. UGH! Is anything uglier? I too, am glad for the “less is more” look at life. I enjoy being frugal and making do with less. Keeping my credit card balance at zero and the bank balance in the black by a nice amount. And it’s not like we make boo coos of money at our house! I do love all your creations, Becca. Someday I hope to have lots of card making supplies. I’m slowly collecting!

I was skeptic when Capri Pants came on the scene. I remembered the old “peddle pushers”, and wasn’t thrilled to see them come back. Now, of course, I love them. I have so many pairs I won’t even tell you how many. I love capri pants, and I really hope they don’t go out of style again anytime soon. I’m too old to wear shorts so capri pants are wonderful.

It was so much fun to read some of the other responses. I actually like bell bottoms. They are in style now and just called flares. They actually make your hips look smaller. I also liked shoulder pads – something else that made your lower half look smaller. Bring them on!!!!!!!! I too would like hats to make a comeback – Oh well that will never happen. I also read about candy. Oh all those great penny candies.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Dear Becca, I never want to see poverty come back to our country like it did in the depression and I’d like to see more production and manufacturing jobs come back. As for fashions, I never thought double knits would be popular again , yuck, but they seem to be again, I hate polyester and I love cotton anything. I’d like to see ladies hats be popular again so I would not nook so weird when I want to wear one!! Especially if my hair is a little dusty because I’ve been crafting all day and need to run to town for something. Your book is very exciting!!

This was so fun reading all the comments. I remember every end of summer getting all of the green stamps together and all of us would sit around the kitchen table pasting them in books. Then we would take the books to the shoe store and get our new Buster Brown school shoes!!!

When we were kids, on the weekends we would play cards with Mom. Well, here it is and we get together about every 6 weeks for ‘card night’ with all 3 generations! Love it!!

WOWZERZ!!!! Congrats on 8 million hits!!!! How amazing is that!!!! Things that are making a comeback that I LIKE: homecookin! The economy has more of us eating in I think and meal time is becoming family time again and I love that. Handmade ANYTHING! Again, I think it has to do with the economy but I would so much rather have a handmade gift than a store bought one.

I got something wonderful back that I lost 20 years ago. When I got a divorce I had to lose contact with a very sweet friend and her young children, her husbannd would have made her life extremely difficult.

I must say I have enjoyed watching the Little House on the Prairie series with my daughter this past year or so. What I would like to see COME BACK? I agree with someone ahead of me, TRUE CHRISTIAN VALUES for our country! That starts with INDIVIDUALS!

Hahahaha!!! I love your question! Some of the answers so far are a real chuckle! A lot seem to be over hair and clothing styles. Go figure? Wonder what we are wearing now that we will cringe about when we see a pic 20 years from now?

I think my biggest fear would be bringing back the old clunky style electronics! How about the cell phones that were as big as a tissue box or computer that took up half a room? Think turntables that sat in big wooden chests in our living rooms…See where I’m going with this?
Lets hope we never think those things were cool and want to use them again!!! Hehehe!!!

I am so glad that many of the ‘home skills’ are coming back into style – cooking from ‘scratch’, knitting, sewing, canning. I have such delight in sharing those skills with my grandchildren. I’m grateful that those high heeled boots that guys used to wear in the 70′s has not returned.

Thank you for sharing your happiness with us.

Congrats on your whopping milestone! I know that I am one of those who visit your site at least once a day and sometimes more. You always have such cute things and such out of this world ideas! I have had such a laugh reading some of the things above. I wore hip huggers and middrift(?) tops when I was 16 or so and I know my Mom hated them and now they are back in style along with short shorts and I hate it when my granddaughter wears them – I now sound like my Mom and know how she felt then! I would like to see people being more considerate toward each other and following the Golden Rule. Thanks for a chance to win some wonderful, non-fattening, candy.

Hi Becca, Love your creations!
Your book was amazing, and you “threw” it together so nicely was just beautiful….
I’m not really sure what I would like to see come back, however sagging pants, disrespect, and the horrible crime – especially kidnapping and child crimes I would love to see them GONE!
I would love to have a safe and loving world! PEACE!

wow, nice blog candy again!
I wish the bad economy would go out and the flourishing one come back in style. I miss it!! I have maybe 10 years until retirement and I would really love it if my investments would take a jump–UP of course! Another related issue I would like to ‘go out’ is the massive waste of government spending in areas where there is no long range affect–like ‘giving quick money’ instead of ‘making permanent jobs’…
congrats on the 8 mil mark! You certainly deserve it–your blog is awesome!

I would love to see moral values come back, I am so tired of being talked to like my values don’t matter, and kids today do not know what tact is. Wow, Becca, congrats on your blog milestone. You’re an inspiration and a creative resource, that’s for sure. I want to see Fizzies come back (those were the little tablets that moms would pack in their kids lunches … in the 60s … with a thermos of water, and at lunch we’d pop the tablet into the thermos and have instant fizzie grape, cherry, lemon, punch or rootbeer —yum, my favorite). Would not want to have bell bottoms come back. Or white patent leather boots. Or hot pants. My ex-mother-in-law wore a white hot pant set, WITH white patent leather boots, WITH a floor-length lace vest, to her 4th wedding.

Congratulation with the milestone Becca, Before you know it, you´ll hit the 19 mill as popular as you are. But I totally understand why, cause you really do some awesome work and have a great blog here, and you´re ibsoiring so many people, incuding my self, with all you do, which is sooo wonderful.
I would love to get those times back, where all people had time to be polite and nice to each other, and had time to stop and help an old lady over the street, if she was a bit afraid of the traffic. Today nobody cares about other than them self, becaue they are sooo stressed with all the have to do always, god knows why as people work less and less but get more and more stressed for some reson? But if just we would all take the time to be kind to each other and send others a smile, it would be a much better day for evryone around, I´m sure.

Hi Becca!
This comment is not about a fashion trend that has come and gone, but when I read this my first thought was “Hurricanes!”
Since I live in the deep south (Mobile, Alabama), I have experienced several really bad hurricanes in my life, and it is NOT FUN! Living with no electricity in the dead of summer, not having access to ice, gas, groceries, etc. is a terrible feeling. So, for my wish, I’d like to never see another hurricane again!

Hi Becca,
I sure hope ‘that pleated pants and shorts do not come back in style. They make you look much larger than your actual size. They are not as forgiving as the smooth panel front.

I hope that lycra and spandex never goes out of style It is used in many of our clothing and undergarments and helps keep things in place as well as a little forgiving when needed.

Blessings to you,

I can’t believe that I am doing all the ‘homey’ type things again – like sewing handmade gifts, preserving and canning (and loving it). Last time I did all this our kids were young and it was to help save money. I enjoyed it – don’t get me wrong but then the girls got older and I went to work – who had time? Funny how now that it’s becoming trendy again I manage to find the time huh? But tell me when did fabric get so expensive!

My son has moved back home! That makes me happy (although it was not the way we were hoping for) but he is here and it is another voice in the house, which is such a help to someone like me who is so isolated.
he also has his dog with him, who is a total mutt, but absolutely adorable and happy and fun!! his name is Pico (as in Pico De Gallo)
and his cat Ceasar (Ceasar like the salad) he is a bit aggressive and huge, but he is one of those “hemmingway” cats with the extra toe on each paw, and his are huge and very prominent…thus the name Ceasar for the ruler ceasar and “Thumbs up or Thumbs down”

I have put waaay too much my plate recently on top of not feeling good more often than not, so i am playing a frantic game of catch-up!

Of course the House Fire wouldn’t have happened without my son being home, but things happen, what are going to do?

Him being here has added stress at some moments, and laughter and smiles at others. All in all I am happy he is here.

We have been looking at old family pictures and I hope those awful large glasses frames that are white NEVER come back! I had a pair of those when our daughter was born so we have lots of pictures with those in them! Ick!

I’m glad to have back my hair. I was very sick 3 years ago and it went completely straight as a result. So I let it go long. Long and straight is so much better than short and straight! But the next year, after I was very sick again, I was glad to have the longer hair as half my hair fell out and since it was long and straight, most people never noticed besides me, my husband, and my hairdresser. Now it is thick and long and straight again. Now hairdressers complain again about how thick my hair is and are always trying to talk me into cutting it. Wahoo!

I love that frugality is returning — I’ve been frugal all along but when “bigger is better” was the acceptable lifestyle for so many, frugal was definitely not considered “cool.” I hope the “bigger is better” never returns like it was — gas-guzzling SUVs, McMansions, and the like can stay away forever. Simple always seems better.

Something I am so glad has come back is being Frugal, which you have already said. No waste, I love it! I would like to see “modesty” make a come back, what happened that we are so out of whack?

My comment for today, and I think this counts, is one of my favorite bands got back together this year. Soundgarden. I was sad they broke up but obviously they just needed a hiatus and now they are playing shows again. I hope that they are working on a new album. Good luck to everyone and thanks becca!

I love it that Gingham has made a comeback – I see tons of gingham ribbon on crafts now, as well as DP designs. Also, not in the crafting theme, I note that more and more people are getting into vegetable gardening in order to reap the freshest, tastiest, SAFEST grow-your-own foods (i.e. no pesticides).

Becca, congratulations on your amazing blog and its success. You are such a talented lady and I enjoy reading and seeing your creations! I would be so happy if sewing found a new life. I’m afraid it’s a dying art. Quilting seems to be going strong, but sewing articles of clothing seems to be fading. A couple of years ago, my bestfriend from high school, came back in my life. She had made some bad choices and had problems with addiction and we had lost contact. She didn’t have a phone, but every once and awhile I would call her mom and dad to check on her. Well, I got the call from her that she had started a recovery program and was is business school. I was sooooo excited for her. I missed my friend and was so proud that she chose to quit and make her life a better one for her and her children!!!

no bell-bottoms ! all they are good for is soaking up water while walking outside, getting caught on stuff, looking like your ankles have edema, giving the appearence of having a tourniquit around your shins, making you have thunder thighs even if you don’t !, although wearing them will give you the impression than you can walk around without shoes- no one will ever know !, you can wear them and look like an impersonater at a Vegas show, they also give the impression that you have no style and wear them just because everyone else is –what happend to your clear judgement when purchasing them?, wearing them also makes you apparently blind since you didn’t look at how bad they looked on your friends and everyother trend folllowing person, maybe surgery could fix that or a pill or some kind of treatment might help so you can start thinking on your own; they also look like mary poppins in the wind, a good mud catcher, catches on car doors, but you have to admit one thing- they certainly hide those ugly trendy multi-colored knee high socks we used to wear–gross also ! on the other hand , lets get rid of the pencil jeans- no one NO ONE can wear them , now thats a sight and a whole another topic of crude comments all together–after all who wants to look anorexic or brittle !

And I totally agree with the poster several ahead of me that I’d love to see kids learn to play marbles, jacks, and hopscotch and jumprope again as an everyday activity. Of course, we got our heels to throw for hopscotch for the shoe repair store…..try and find one of those today! I spent countless childhood hours in those activities….sweet memories.

I’d love to see re-usable milk bottles and others of that type come back. It would save a lot of plastic in land fills. I remember when the dairies had delivery systems and they brought the milk to your door. Anyone live in a house that still has those little insulated cubbies the milk-man could open from the outside to deliver the milk and you opened from the inside to bring it in? There was one in the house where my husband was raised. I’d like to see home dairy deliveries come back, too.

Congrats on the 8 million, you so deserve the accolades. Love your book, wishing you would publish for all to see & drool over. You are such a great inspiration.

Things I would love to see disappear: tacky, baggy, too loose or too tight clothing. I keep wanting to yank the baggy boy’s pants up for a wedgie. I don’t want to see their unders. The too revealing clothing for woman also has to go. I’m not a prude, however it is better to have a mystery to you than to put it all out there.

Things I would love to see return, patience & courtesy. I’m always amazed that these have been forgotten. I know that our parents spent lots of time helping us to master them, but where is it listed that the minute you leave the house that you leave these basics at the door?

One more item to return, paper straws. Very retro, very good for the environment. Not so good for a thick shake but how much fun was it to try to get that shake up one. Having them sure helped you enjoy that shake for a long time.

I would hate trolls to come back. NO beehive hair or pill box hats.

Small shoulder pads would be okay. No linebacker style. I just need a little help for mine.

I would love corals and salmons to come back so that I can scrapbook my 30+ year old wedding photos. Pink is just wrong.

I wish there were more funny happy comedies and dramas on TV. I watched DOC last night on GMC. Can’t they make more shows with wholesome values?? Rhetorical question I suppose since sex, violence and crude humor seem to be the mainstream norm. We need a few new Cosby comics around.

I love your Becca Bits!!! They have helped me become better at “seeing” possibilities that I would have not thought of without a little push and my techniques have become better. Thank you so much for taking your time to make those posts. Your cards are awesome.

Something I’d love to see come back would be decent sitcoms on TV. All that has come along for years has been trash. We need some decent shows like the oldies of the 50s and 60s… just good clean fun! What I hope comes back is families sitting down for dinner together, instead of everyone grabbing a plate and going off to their separate corners.
I love the vision of yesteryear when a family all sat down together and said Grace.

For me it’s those big glasses that eat about 3/4 of you face. They use to be ugly and now they’re back but as sunglasses and are still super big and ugly. The weird thing is seeing girls 14 to 18 wear them thinking they are so cool!

For the first time in a few years, the deer have returned to our neighborhood. I don’t exactly live in the country, but the area is surrounded on two sides by woods. How I wish actual letter writing could come back in style! I’ve always had this love affair with paper (of any sort) and miss that tangeable touch one has with texture. Sadly, it just isn’t there with emails. On the same note, I wish the text abbreviations would disappear. It seems no one can speak or spell anymore. How many people are suddenly talking ala Sean Connery with their ‘esh’s’ instead of ‘ess’s’. How odd! That gets my goat :)

Bell bottoms! I’m talking about the huge wide ones that we wore back in the early 70′s and that tried to make a comback several years ago. When I was 20 and slim they looked great, now I’m 60 and not so slim – good bye bell bottoms! You belong in the grave yard! Mini skirts – I know they’re still the rage, but really ladies, you need to leave a little up to the imagination! Good bye and thumbs down to mini skirts! Of course this is just MHO!

Something that I wish would come back is a tea that I used to be able to buy back when I was in college. Can’t remember who made it, but it was Black Rum. It made the worlds best ice tea! I would love for an appreciation for our language to come back. People need to find writing important again. Semicolons and commas are not scary; however, people don’t know how to use them. I also hope the same mp3 player (aka ipod) revolution means we will never see people strolling around with boom boxes again, inflicting their choice of music on all and sundry! As a teenager, my friends and I spent many a Saturday night in my girlfriend’s basement listening to oldies from the 1950′s and early 1960′s (think “High on a Hill” and “What’s Your Name?”) on a radio program hosted by Terry Lee, a local d.j., with a deep voice that we all swooned over. Then along came the British invasion, disco and acid rock (not that I have anything against that kind of music) and Terry Lee and his show were gone! I discovered last weekend that Terry Lee is back on local radio and playing those same songs. That put a smile on my face and a song in my heart!
