A Little Birdie Told Me

My daughter asked me to pull together something for her friends young daughter, so I decided to make her a little Christmas tree for her bedroom.  It’s full of birdies and it’s so sweet in real life!!   I can make different birdies for her for Valentines Day, for Easter and many of the upcoming holidays!

The birdies are made with Spellbinders Nested Birds Die.  It’s so easy to make the birds except I didn’t want them to be so two dimensional – I thought about it for a while and came up with wings made from Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Paisley.   The detail is difficult to see in this photo but I have taken some pictures of the individual little birds.    Believe me, the entire project took longer to photograph than it took to make :)

This is the largest bird that I used to top off the little tree.

Next are the medium sized birds . . .

These are the smallest birds . . .

Recipe:
Paper:  K&Co Christmas
Accessories:  Spellbinders Nested Bird Die, Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Paisley Die, Bling, Gold Cord, Ornament Hangers

I cut two birds and two wings for each ornament.  On both sides I slit the bird horizontally just large enough for the scalloped paisley to fit in partially, folded the inside of the wing down and secured it with tape.    I sandwiched a small transparent hanger reinforcement in place before glueing the two sides together.   I then hung the ornament with a curly ornament holder.

Thanks for stopping by . . . I’ve been running around like a maniac and as I’m sure it is for many, life is just unpredictable right now.  Even though posts will be at odd times, I do hope to be creating!!

    Dear Becca,

I love this sweet tree. Reminds me of the “feather” trees I grew up with on the East Coast. We had one or more out for most holidays and made tiny ornaments to mix in with crystals borrowed from chandeliers upstairs where no one but us would notice they were missing. Thanks for stirring old and cherished memories.

One question – where did you find the little tree? It’s so much nicer than some of the “imitation” feather trees I’ve seen. Perfect for a mantle or small table. Seeing your birds in flight will have the little girl “singing” for joy every morning. And with all the popular heart punches and dies out there I can only imagine what you will do with it for Valentines!

Hmmm… maybe if I took some dowels and covered them with floral tape and with evergreens wrapped round….hmmmm….nope…I’ve yet to see evergreens in my yard that look like feathers! On the other hand holly branches and their prickly points would keep my cats from playing with the paper birds :-)

Joyeux Noël cher Becca! Merci pour l’inspiration! – Jean FitchReplyCancel

This is so darling!! I have often joked with dh that I will leave a tree up all year and just decorate it differently… but then I thought about have to store all the decorations for 12 different months… but perhaps with a small tree like this. I love the little birds!!

Good evening, Becca. I, too, have been trying to accomplish 36 hours of things to do into the 24 hours in a day- impossible, so I’m slowly being worn to a frazzle. I do so love Christmas but not when I start to prepare my cards so late. I do love this little tree and the birds are just adorable. They are currently on my wishlist and because of your inspiration I might just add the paisley dies. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful talent.ReplyCancel
