A Heartfelt Merry Christmas

Sweetest blog friends, I wanted to be sure to peek in and wish you a Merry Christmas! I could not be more blessed than to have spent the day with two of my daughters. We connected with my son this morning over the iPad so that we could spend some time together and we also opened the gifts that we’d be sending to him.  Gotta love technology!  I’ll have to admit that cooking was at a minimum at my house this year and for the first time in my life we went out to dinner on Christmas eve and went out to breakfast on Christmas Day. It was jam packed, something I would not have guessed. I was telling the kids how different it was when I was younger – no stores were ‘ever’ open on Sunday and if you didn’t get something by nightfall you had to wait until the next morning and we never felt it was an inconvenience :-) Sweet daughter is on road driving back home now so all is quiet. I truly hope you too have been blessed to spend the holiday with loved ones.  I couldn’t resist one more Christmas item (made late in the evening while I was wrapping gifts) before I pull my papers and stash them away – I made an old worn bookmark with a distressed seam binding tassel.  I kept it all simple, but I do really love to make bookmarks and really do use them.  This one is for a small book so my little flower doesn’t get in the way, but for a larger book, simply omit it.

Merry Christmas to you too! Love your blog. . . I too tell my boys (25,& 28 yrs old) that back in the day stores were closed on Sundays and ALL Holidays, never was there fast food stores open 24-7. We were raised with family values and traditions! Sounds like you are like so many holding onto tradition! It’s nice to know in the big world there are still those that value traditions.
    Wishing you a wonderful day!ReplyCancel

So glad to hear from you on Christmas day! So your girls were home = how nice!! Glad you enjoyed the holiday with family. I had 17 for breakfast and 13 for dinner. My husband and I did all the cooking. Lasagna with all the trimming and homemade cheesecake for dessert! Wish you lived closer, you and the girls could have come too! Love the bookmark.

Having your family with you and that cares enough about you to make an effort to be with you is such a blessing. I am so glad you have children who love you so much. I didn’t think I was going to get to see my grand children at all today. They only live less than 2 miles from here but we always seem to get put on the back burner and are usually an after thought. They are one of the only joys I can seem to find these days and so I spent most of the day just hoping and praying their parents would find time to bring them by. This is also my first Christmas without my mom. It has really been a tough year for this family all the way around. Anyone who reads this, if you pray , and don’t mind praying for a person you have never met before, I would sure appreciate you saying a little prayer for my family. Just that we can be a happy Christian family with love for one another. If there is love in Christ, all else will fall in to place. I hope you all have a wonderful grace filled Christmas. God bless……. DeniceReplyCancel

What a lovely post, Becca. You always seem to have just the right words to express your feelings and it’s a delight reading your blog. I’m glad you were able to spend some quality time with your children, even if one was over the internet. It wasn’t very long ago that would not have been possible and now it’s commonplace! We’re having our family celebration tomorrow when my son gets home from working offshore. He’ll be off from tomorrow until after the New Year but we had to delay Christmas one day to accommodate his schedule. I spent today with my daughter-in-law helping her bake pumpkin bread and doing laundry and having fun with the grandkids. All of my cards and gifts were handmade this year and I was really happy with the way they turned out so I hope the recipients will be as happy with them as I am! LOL Your bookmark, simple as it may be, is just beautiful. I ever enjoy seeing your gorgeous creations even though I may not always comment. I’m off to bed so I can start my day early tomorrow.

Blessings to you on this special day and on into the new year.

    Hugs, AnneReplyCancel

Becca, I loved your bookmark. We also discuss at our home, how, on Sundays, if you did find a rare store opened, you did not patronize them…I was raised, that by patronizing them, you were enabling the store owner to stay open, and pay for the poor sole who had to work on the sabbath. Now this memory was one of childhood…

Sundays were a day of worship, rest and wonderful family time. Honestly, looking back….how did it happen? When did it happen?

I am thinking it happened, prior to me graduating from high school, which was 1972, because as an adult…I can’t place it…what is your memory?ReplyCancel

Merry Christmas, Becca! Our day was wonderfully noisy and chaotic and messy and festive…everything a family Christmas should be. All the kids and grandkids were here…and I cooked for 8 days straight in preparation. So, Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas breakfast at a restaurant sound pretty good to me right about now! LOL I haven’t crafted in days and days and days…I hope I remember how. Love your bookmark…it is simple and elegant, and the distressed tassel is wonderful. Today is officially ” PJ’s all day and no cooking at all ” for me, so hopefully, I’ll get some time in studio. Hugs to you, sweetest of all bloggers!ReplyCancel

Few days late seeing the posts. So glad your girls were with you.
Christmas is all about Christ and families, those are the most important
    things in this life.
Yes the good old days when stores were always closed on Sundays and all holidays. My church still teaches us to keep the Sabbath day Holy. We
don’t shop on sundays, play sports, go to movies, etc. We spend the day in rest, visiting family, reading, music, and going to church. Our bodys and our souls need a little rest in this busy world.

I love your bookmark and would really like to see how you make the tassle as I see you have a little topper on it. Could you please, please do a tutorial on it, ????
I like to put tassles on bookmarks and this is a really a neat different oneReplyCancel
