Vintage Alphabet Soup

Thank you so much for your sweet, kind words, friends.  You sure know how to make a gal feel special!!   Happy tears as I read your comments – it honestly was a very emotional day, all day.  The post took quite a bit of time to write because I wanted to find just the right words – it was important.   I was up at 6am writing although the samples were made earlier this month.  I mentioned to a friend that I was listening to the 80’s music channel on TV when Wind Beneath Your Wings came on – if you know the words, then you can probably imagine the impact on this day.  Otherwise, call me giddy :-)  So here are more samples – these use the Vintage Alphabet Soup Background Stamp and show how you can mix and match the background with the Vintage Filigree Fancies Stamp set.

Starting now and ending at 11pm Central Time on July 10th, you can leave a comment to be able to win the Vintage Alphabet Soup Background. You’re able to enter once by leaving a comment on this post and we’re giving away one set for each 100 comments received. Another set will be featured tomorrow.  If you want in on the first batch, feel free to go ahead and pre-order – if you win we’ll make an adjustment to your order.  For your comment, please let us know what kind of 3D projects you like to make to match your cards – boxes, gift bags, favors or something else? Tell us about it!
The card is made by overstamping the Vintage Alphabet Soup background on text printed design paper and mounting on a card base made by cutting the bottom of a folded card base with Spellbinders™ Labels Twenty Three.  Filigree from Vintage Filigree Fancies is stamped onto Spellbinders™ Jar Labels then the label cut in half horizontally.  Lastly the sentiment Warm Wishes is stamped and cut from Spellbinders™ Standard Circles LG.  A button and seam binding top off the design for a card where I was happy to let the background be the star!!

Then a matching bookmark was made from the same sets.  The background was stamped onto a piece of striped design paper and layered onto white and teal mats, cut just wide enough to accommodate the sentiment and rounded on the corners.   I snipped off just enough of the panel so that it could be placed above and below the sentiment.  Then I layered on Spellbinders™ Fancy Framed Tags One (new)  folded in half and cut an opening using the smallest circle from Spellbinders™ Standard Circles SM.  Lastly I cut two Spellbinders™S5-146 Botanical Swirls and wrapped them around the tag before a final glue into place.
The background coordinates with the sentiments so well that you can actually forgo the design paper!!

Your cards are always beautiful and creative with colors, dies, paper, ribbon. It is hard for me to come up with a 3D card I would like to know about as when you come up with one I am delighted and try it right away; just not real creative here. I love the boxes with embellishments on the top. I love the pop ups but I lean more to the classey card rather than the cutsey cards. Just anything vintage sends me to another world. I guess I would love to see more shabby chic vintage cards if I were to pick something. Thank you for the chance on winning a very first from your new stamp creations.ReplyCancel

I was so excited to give my good wishes on your news yesterday, I forgot to mentions how beautiful your first stamp designs are. I love the style and fancy lettering has always been one of my favourites. I love the way paragraphs are started with the large letters as in your post from yesterday. Your samples today really showcase how wonderful the designs are. Your sentiment on the bookmark is beyond wonderful, and oh so true. I am setting aside a special section in my JustRite stamp notebook for yours.. Yikes!! If you are as prolific at stamp designing as you seem to be at everything else I better get a bigger book!! Have a Fantastic, amazing, and wonderful Sunday!

The alphabet set is so lovely … I took a peek at it yesterday and was wowed by it. I love your sophisticated style and the larger sized cards you make. I almost always make a 5×7 card because I like to bling them out. I have several 3D projects I go back to time and again. The first is the pop-up stage card (following Kim Score’s tutorial on SCS). The next is the double tri-fold cascade card which makes a very impressive presentation for any occasion. Lastly, I make my own custom fit presentation boxes for the larger blinged out cards that I plan to hand deliver and they match back to the card itself. Again, congratulation and good luck on your new venture … I’ll be following you! Hugs!ReplyCancel

A beautiful card, Becca, and for you I’d declare it close to a CAS! The only 3D object I’ve made with any card(s) are boxes to hold a set on occasion. I’m usually so rushed to get the card out in a timely fashion I don’t even get the envelopes decorated, which is something I would enjoy doing. That’s another reason your output, besides being original, innovative, and gorgeous, is so awesome….you accomplish so much!! May God continue to bless you and us.ReplyCancel

Well, I really don’t do 3D projects. I guess I would if I had the need. So far, I just make cards. Good Morning, Becca, This is a gorgeous card, and I like the bookmark you made to go along with it. Both are elegant, and can reach that part of friendship in people who like more elegant designs.;or Like maybe for graduations, bridal showers, anniversary’s. etc. Your new designs will help create this feeling. Also the prices aren’t over the top with economy as it is, budgets, and retirements. If I have one desire, it would be for book marks to match my cards, or a gift holder to match. I have many family and friends over seas and this would help share. ……thanks for sharing….and God Bless on your new adventure…..Heaps of Hugs and BlessingsReplyCancel

Hello Becca. The font is so remarkable on the Vintage Alphabet Soup. I think it is going to dress up any card I care to make with it. I love all the filigree you have put in your new designs and the Vintage Alphabet Soup is exquisite to look at! I also love that you made your designs to be embossed and not lose the detail.
My favourite thing to make with my card is a gift box. Even if the gift is too big I will always get something to add in that will give me a reason to make a box.
Keep “The Wind Beneath Your Wings” Always! It must be fate – your logo matches too!

Gorgeous!! I love the way you stamped the alphabet background over patterned paper. Another tip for my file :) The bookmark is a fabulous idea . However, I think I am the only one in my family who reads ” real” books. Everyone else reads e-books . I normally do not make 3-D items to go with my cards. The only time I make a small box is to put a gift cardholder into it .ReplyCancel

    My
    Dearest Becca,

You are an inspiration to me – I have been where you are now -getting my life back on track after a loss of someone I loved dearly. It has been hard but with God’s help and guidance I know I can make it – I grab a cup of coffee each morning and go into my “studio” and have coffee with Becca, please don’t stop doing the beautiful work you do. I love your new set of stamps and I can’t wait to get my hands on them. I would love to use them to make stationary for the ladies in my family for Christmas — Christmas thoughts in July – (101 degrees ) here in NC. Congrats again and God be with you!!!ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca

I almost never leave comments for things, but I felt I had to do it today. When I read that you were considering giving up your blog I was so sad – and so glad that you are not having to do that! My dear sister died unexpectedly earlier this year. Reading your comments and feeling your warm and kind spirit has helped me with my terrible sadness. I know you’ve suffered with loss and grief, but you have given something to all of us who follow you that is priceless – you have given of yourself. God bless you Becca and thank you for your wonderful spirit and fabulous creativity. I have already placed my order for your new stamps.ReplyCancel

So cool! Love how neat this background stamp is! Love your projects also. In yesterday’s blog you asked what size I used most often for cards and I got so wrapped up in what you were saying and my response that I forgot to answer the question, so I will today. The size I use most often is A2. There are other sizes I also like, but at least recently, this is my go to size especially when I need a card quickly.ReplyCancel

I like the idea of background stamps and the alphabet one was really nice. I am new so have not done many “3D projects” but am think I would like to do some gift tags in the future. If putting something on a card with foam dots counts, I have made a birthday card with ballons and started with flat ones and then layered them up with the last few in the bunch done using the dots. I have a friend who is teaching me to do some “card tricks” and she taught me that one.

Love your work and I know you are going to do well at your new job.ReplyCancel

Everything is so lovely! (I bet you could do a lot of things with that background stamp and a stampamajig!!) I think I know the effect of that particular song. My mother listened to it when she had cancer. She’d never been one to have music going in the house but she had my brothers get that CD for her and a player to play it on. She took it with her to the hospital when the final days came. It is hard for me to sing along to it because I choke up every time. It has been almost 20 years and it still has that effect on me. I think of your challenges often and marvel at your accomplishments. My mom always told me it isn’t the people who have an easy life who accomplish great things. Pretty smart lady… she’d have seen that in your life, too.ReplyCancel

I just love scrolly fonts and this is no exception… Stunning. I don’t do much 3D but a couple years ago I did about 50 paper purses for my daughters wedding shower that turned out awesome. Each one was different but had the wedding colors of yellow, black, and white. I created the pattern and instructions and have given them out to anyone that asks for them. Besides the fun in designing each one, I really liked adding craft foam bottoms to the inside to strengthen the purse and cushion the contents. It was a big project though–need more time if I even attempt that again…!ReplyCancel

Blessing and congratulations Becca. You are such an inspiration. I would like a 3D envelope/box that would protect an embellished card and make a great combined presentation. Instructions for most standard sizes would be awesome.

Oh, yes; “Wind Beneath My Wings” was the song my daughter and “Daddy” danced to at Laurel’s wedding. It has so many different meanings to so many people and I see it as just the perfect song for you for yesterday. Like your blog family lifts you up, so do you lift me up, Becca. You inspire me to step out of my comfort zone and try new and different things. You would be amazed at how many of your cards I ‘lifted’, even though simply by using a different background paper or color of ribbon, it ended up looking entirely different than yours. Now with your own line of stamps my brain is swirling around in my head. Keep ’em comin’, girl!!!ReplyCancel

Hearty congratulations Becca on your venture down a ‘Road Less Travelled’. I wish you every success and happiness for the future.
As a lover of swirls, curls, flourishes and even squiggles, I think your alphabet bg stamp is ACE – just magnificent. I don’t make many cards but do like to make a matching 3D box for cards being hand delivered. It’s my intention to take a leaf out of your book (so to speak) and make some MULTI ribbon bookmarks!

TG you are continuing with your inspirational blog – please don’t entertain any bad thoughts on that score – please. lol

What lovely card and bookmark today! I usually don’t do any 3D work to go along with my cards but enjoy seeing the items you make. It sure makes the card extra special for the recipient. Again wishing you much success on this new venture! When I saw the background stamp I don’t know why but I thought they were individual letters yesterday. Duh! On the right track today. :)ReplyCancel

I don’t know if bookmarks count as a 3D project, but I do like making them to go with birthday cards, esp. for my Bible study group. I am also planning a vine wreath with Christmas themed paper flowers and bows this year…my first attempt at this kind of project.ReplyCancel

Wind Beneath my Wings .. makes me cry at the best of times … so I can imagine how yesterday was for you!! Just another sign that your angels are with you, lucky lady!

When making cards, I often create a treat bag of some sort, usually by covering one of those paper bags to match the card I’ve made. For Father’s Day this year, I made my dad a card, matching keychain, matching treat bag, and decorated a small tin pail all in red, black, and white and everything matched.ReplyCancel

This is just lovely, Becca! I was puzzling over how the alphabet background could be used but this looks fantastic! As for 3-D items – I rarely make them. But when I do, it is usually a gift box or a dressed up gift bag to coordinate with the card.ReplyCancel

  • Jan Douglas, FloridaJuly 8, 2012 - 4:53 pm

Oh, this is an easy one to answer….you very own Ribbon Weave Baskets are my favorite to make and are always a hit when I give one as a gift….usually the gift is in the basket, but the basket itself seems to get more attention than the gift inside. I love your creation and find the weaving very relaxing. I actually went through your video and kept starting and stopping it and wrote down the steps and then typed them into a Word document. If you would like the document, I’ll be happy to send it to you via email….just say the word. Anyway, now I can do it with my cheat sheet rather than having to use the video and doing all the starting and stopping. I’ve made quite a few of these with varying themes, different border punches for the handles and several different color combos. My favorites have been the pinks and blues for babies or Easter. So fun. Thanks for sharing your ideas.ReplyCancel

  • AnnJuly 8, 2012 - 4:53 pm

I want to first of all, thank you for the inspiration of Amazing Paper Grace. Your designs are amazing, but so is your testimony. The Christian testimony that you have shared with crafters all across the world had proven what an awesome God you serve. I have stalked your blog long enough to not only admire and learn from your talent, but to figure out that through your husband’s illness you were given a strength that only God can provide.
I have enjoyed your introducing me to JustRite stamps and have purchased several of them. It is my prayer that I can use the creativity that I have learned from bloggers just like yourself, that I can make cards to inspire those in my church and community to encourage and lift up those who are not only going through trials, but also to encourage and thank those who are using their talents to lift up Christ and further His work. May God bless you and those who you have inspired to encourage others in the future.ReplyCancel

This stamp and your card and bookmark are gorgeous as always Becca!

I got so excited for you yesterday that I forgot to say what size cards I like to make the most. I’m afraid I don’t have a preference., although lately I’ve tended to make more larger sized cards than I used to. I guess my cards are all over the place in size and shape.

As for 3-D items to match cards, Gosh, I make albums, boxes, sticky note holders, anything I can think of. This summer I have been playing around with stamping on wooden items, as well as stamping on wood veneer and cutting it with Spellbinders and mounting the wooden die cuts onto wooden items. Sometimes I paint them, sometimes I color them with Copics, and sometimes I just varnish them and let the beauty of the wood show through the stamp.

I guess I am all over the place with items other than cards as well!ReplyCancel

Oh my! That background Alphabet stamp is really beautiful! I love your style!!!! I love to make boxes and other types of gift containers. It is always such a delight when people tell me how much they enjoyed them! I started making my cards many years ago using the card making programs on the computer. They were really nice and everyone loved them, but then I started following blogs, such as yours, and discovered that I liked the more personal touch of creating my own cards from scratch. It was so encouraging to see what others were doing and for a long time most of my cards were just copies of what I saw out there. Now I tend to be more creative and have my own style, though I do still CASE on occasion and you are such a wonderful example! Thanks for everything you do and display. Oh, I just love this set, Becca. I am so excited to see what you have created using your new designs! You were meant to do this kind of work, Dear One. I am so very thankful the “doors have been opened” for you to walk through and pursue your design career along this lovely avenue.
As for what I create to go with my cards, I think flowers would be the 3 D item I make most often. I’ve tried everything from shrink plastic to stamping on filo clay over the years, but paper is my love. I’d like to do more boxes, though. One can always use a pretty box to package a gift…ReplyCancel

  • BetsyJuly 8, 2012 - 7:49 pm

I like to make gift bags to match my cards if they’re ones I’m going to be giving in person. Gift bags are easy, and I like the idea that the receiver can recycle the bag by giving it to someone else. Sometimes I think it’d be fun to know how many times the bag is “regifted”!

I hope after all the comments you have received so far, you are comfortable with your decision to pursue this path you’re on. It seems to be laid before you and to go in a different direction might be counterproductive (though I can’t imagine that anything you do in the art/craft realm would be counterproductive!), Anyway, hope I’m one of the lucky winners but if I’m not, I still wish you all the luck in the world with your new line.ReplyCancel

I can only imagine if that was me listening and that song came on, I would have broke down and cried my eyes out. It seems like that song is played at all the important times in my life. It gets to me every time I hear it. The item I like to create with my cards is a box that I love to embellish that my DH brings home for me from his job. It’s packaging for a product they use that otherwise would just be going in the trash. I don’t know what to call the box but on average they are about 5×7 – 6×9 and they are about 2″ thick. The one side is “hinged” so they work out perfect. I use a label remover first to take off the advertisements and then I cover with patterned paper and go to town embellishing it. When I’m done I put the card inside with a tag on the box so they know it’s for them to use and it isn’t necessarily a box for the card. A little gift for them I guess you can say. Thanks again for a chance to play along. I’m looking forward to upcoming months of new releases for your stamp line.ReplyCancel

WOW! Your card and stamps are beautiful!!! But why should I not be amazed? I am always amazed when I look at your creations! I supposed you named your blog Amazing Paper Grace not without a reason :))) I am new to scrapbooking and cardmaking (my cuttlebug reached age of 1 year just last month!). I am SO GRATEFUL I came across your blog. You are a huge inspiration for me!!!

Because you asked about 3D card wrapping: I try to make my cards quite flat so I could easily mail them, but if they are thicker in dimension that I create a box for them. I enjoy making boxes for other things, eg. I made some vintage christmas decorations and I needed a box for it, so I made it :)

Most certainly I will visit your blog tomorrow: I am looking forward to be amazed again :)ReplyCancel

The stamp set is beautiful. In addition to cards I like to make explosion boxes for gift cards. I particularly like the new flip tuck fold ties, geo-dies, pop-up dies and the embossed and cut look of many new dies on the market. The way you used the background stamp on patterned paper is wonderful. You have so many unique an beautiful ideas.ReplyCancel

Was just looking at your creations on the JR site today, Becca! They are all fabulous! These stamps today are no exception, I love the alphas! As far as making 3D objects to match my cards, I haven’t done much in the way of making sets, but I really have enjoyed some of the boxes I have made! I tend to measure my objects and do a little math to make my boxes to fit, rather than make them from a template. Maybe this makes me odd but making things of my own invention is a great deal of fun for me.ReplyCancel

Becca, I must apologize. When I entered your first round of giveaways, I totally forgot ( in my eagerness to enter) to congratulate you on your new endeavor! What a perfect path for you to take–stamper extraordinaire goes Hollywood, stamper style. You know you’ve always had a designer in there just waiting to fly. Now is your time–wings up!

My 3-D standby is an envelope for my card! I’ve owned envelope templates for years but have really enjoyed the SU diagonal scoring tool of late. I prefer one-sided pattern paper that I turn white-side-out so my finished envie looks like I lined it with printed paper. Sneaky!

Again, best wishes to you in this and everything you do (and save some of the stamping goodness at JRS for me gals)!ReplyCancel
