Tutorial: Flower of the Loom

Hey Peg Bow Maker, meet Flower Loom :-)  Seriously, your husbands and boyfriends are going to tire of me I think, lol!!  Well so many of you asked how to make the flower I made on this post and I chuckled because I had to make a flower loom to make that flower.  Why make a flower loom?  Well I suppose you can buy them somewhere, I’ve not seen one and mine is very inexpensive.  The round box I made it from costs $1.00 plus some additional hardware.  So anyways, this is such a cute and easy way to make these ribbon flowers.   I made all the sweet flowers above with this little contraption below, my flower loom :-)  It now has a place on my shelf next to my Peg Bow Maker.

Here are some options when looking for a cylindrical item to make the loom.  The small box at Michaels is $1.00, I found yet another round box and a birdhouse whose roof I removed.  How about a wooden flower pot?

Here is a close up picture of the rivets I purchased (at Home Depot).  I only needed 16 of them but this multipack was all they had.

Here’s the video tutorial to show you how to make the loom, describe what you need and how to make your first flower on the loom, enjoy!

By the way, should you make a loom and show on your blog or elsewhere, I’d appreciate a link back to this post for the work I put into this.   Thanks!!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: None
Paper: None
Ink: None
Accessories: 1 Round Box, 1 5/64ths drill bit, 2″ Nail, 16 – 1/8″ Rivets with 1/2″ grip

Thanks so much for stopping by. I sincerely hope you will give this a try – it’s an easy tutorial and gives you one more thing you can make to embellish your cards with out breaking the bank!!

Oh Becca, Becca, Becca…now I know why you picked the name for your blog!! You truly are ONE AMAZING LADY in more ways than one. I’m really in awe of your talent!! I’ll never get my hubby to make one of these looms or I’d have to wait ages for him to do it and as you know us crafters want something yesterday! Lol! So I’m thinking of a circular piece of polystyrene and adding the rivets (or maybe cocktail sticks) to that and not forgetting the nail in the centre! I’m hoping this will work for the time being.
Thank you so much for another amazing tutorial.

    Love Sheila xxReplyCancel

Oh, Becca . . . you are soooo talented . . . and clever! I’m going to have to run out this next week and buy the supplies to make one of these flower looms. Thank you so much for taking the time to make a tutorial sharing with us how to make the ribbon flower and how to make the loom to make the flowers on! (I guess that was really two tutorials in one – ha/ha).
I pray you and your family have a blessed Easter!ReplyCancel

what a coincidence – I just found a yarn flower in my stash that I got from a Etsy purchase and I was going to go out and buy one to use with all my threads and yarns. I crochet flowers but wanted a different flower. Hence the need for a little loom. Gosh – I had one of these looms when I was a kid. Brings back memories. good job on the video.ReplyCancel

Well…I have been wanting a loom. Wonder if the pegs would work for yarn – not a huge loom, just the small size one.
I am going to see if I can find one of those at Michaels – if so you will get a photo!!! I love the flowers!!
Just wanted to mention, since I have found you and your amazing flower tutorials – when I see flowers at store all I can think is I can make a nicer one (thanks to you mainly!).

What a relaxing, fulfilling thing to do : ) Please show us your studio, but only if it would please you to do so. I know there are some things that we need to keep for ourselves, just between you and God and your memories. You give part of you away every time you post . Thank you, Becca. Oh my Becca, you are just so darn talented and handy!!! I am afraid I would never get those holes drilled evenly, especially having never used a drill before. LOL. You know what I would love… I would love if you would make both your peg bowmaker and this one and sell them. I for one would buy both of them and I don’t care the cost. Honestly, just to have it done for me would be a blessing!!! But, that said, thanks so much for another incredible tutorial video where you make the seemingly impossible look easy!!!

I know you will have a blessed Easter!!!ReplyCancel

Becca, what a wonderful tutorial. Love these little flowers. I make hats on a loom and donate them to a Childrens hospital (they use them for cancer patients and to hand out in the emergency ward) or to homeless shelters. I have recently started blinging them a bit with crocheted flowers but it is slow going for me as it hurts my hands. This is perfect. And, I love how you can embellish them even more to make larger flowers. Oh, won’t the little girls just love these. Thank you so much for sharing. Hmmm, now where is that drill?ReplyCancel

Amazing!! And Gorgeous flowers!!! I thought the flower on that card was a score tape flower you had flatened and added a brad to. I love the way your mind works and all the delightful things you come up with and share with us. My son often brings me little scraps of things from his work and challenges me to make something out of it. A few weeks ago he brought me a 2 1/2″ circle of something that looks and feels like those self healing mats. It is about two inches thick, I think it will work well for this project. Just need the pegs. Thanks for everything!!!

I made mine from foam core and cardboard, with wodden pegs. Almost a year ago and it is still going strong! Unfortunately we don’t have Michaels in the UK so I had to make do with what I could find in my scrap room or around the house :) Now I may have to see if I can source those metal pegs. They are much thinner than the wooden ones and may make for a more delicate loop. And I sewed the middles, more like when using a traditional 1970s flower loom, but just popping a brad thru is a whole lot easier!

You may recall me linking to your lovely Fleur di Lis ornament a month or so back. I still haven’t managed it, but I will one day. It’s still one of my all time fave projects from the net!

    Happy Easter to you.

Love the little loom. I’m going to get out and take my coupon with me to save 40% off the little box. Hopefully they have some left and I can get it for 60 cents. Now if I just had a coupon to Home Depot.

On the tape runner glues – stay away from the brand that Walmart sells (don’t know if I can name it). The glue just doesn’t stick well. I made a card and when I got ready to mail it a couple of days later, it had come apart. Found an ATV on Overstock.com today for $25 with one refill. Think it will order it today. I am excited to see this about flower looms. I have a Hana-Ami Flower Loom by Clover that cost me about $16. I think they may sell them at Joanns or Michaels, I got mine on Ebay. The cool thing about the Hana-Ami loom is that it comes with 3 different sized circle looms, 2 sizes of squares, and one hexagon. Also, by using 2 different sizes at once, you can make double layer flowers. I darn the middle of my flowers to hold them together. There are video tutorials too for using the Hana-Ami loom. I really love it, and I love buying ribbon yarns in variegated colors to use with it.ReplyCancel

Hi, we are haing a problem with this. We made some but can’t seem to get them to work. What side nail did you use. We can’t seem to get the brad to go through after we get the flower made. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful talents!!!!!!
