Amazing Paper Grace

The ordinary and unexpected gift of stamping

Hey, what’s up with that name?

Posted by Becca Feeken on Friday, February 1st, 2008

Do you like it? For some reason when I was trying to think up a name for my blog, this name came back to me time and time again. Amazing Grace is one of my favorite hymns and runs through my head astonishingly often. Layer on that the fact that my Grandmothers name was Amaza - soooo unique. Then recently I saw the movie, Amazing Grace, not knowing anything of what it was about. Let me tell you, if you have not seen it — you should — it’s a great movie. But more so I think the name means something to me because the past year of my life has been so very difficult. The grave sickness of a loved one has brought everything in my life into scrutiny. My faith has strengthened and grown beyond measure. Somewhere in the hustle of sickness and service, I began to lose myself - this is where crafts and stamping come in. It’s just a little piece of me that I want to save. After prayer, taking care of my husband and taking care of my family - this is what I need to do for me….to keep my head above the water. I’ve been a stamper for more than ten years, and I was basically a crafter at birth. All during my working years, I collected and collected and collected, always too busy to use the things I had purchased. My vow for this year is to use and enjoy the things that I have. LOL, that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t get more but I want to use and savor the things that are right here under my nose. My hope is that this blog will help me be productive, inspire me to create, keep my hands busy so that I don’t stress over the things I can’t change and help me find ways to give everyday. My journey to being right here, right now, typing this first post is no mistake. Even it it’s just for me and no one in the world sees this…..it is a blessing.

I love your site. I only just “discovered” you today, but will definitely add you to my blog roll.
I don’t know the particulars of your situation, but I have found crafting to be so therapeutic, and sending them to others can be a ministry in itself.
    May Godbless you!

To think you started your blog in February of this year…..You are doing a super job. Hope the stresses are less and your loved ones are doing well. Stamping also got me through difficult times while caring for sick loved ones. It is such a portable craft. I was able to make many stamped items on the hospital window ledge. The view out the window also gave me encouragement during difficult times of waiting and staying near-by.
    Blessings, Becca.

    Becca,

I have been an admirer of your work for some time and have come to this blog and never read your reason for blogging. I just watched the video to create a circle with border punches and I’m so glad I did. My comment really has nothing to do with your stamping, but one of the statements you made.

“After prayer, taking care of my husband and taking care of my family - this is what I need to do for me…”

This so impressed me. The Lord has laid down His desire for us and you have it so very correct. Your husband and children surely call you blessed. Thank you for sharing a part of yourself and for blessing my life with yours.

    Becca,

You know how ever so often God sends just what you need, just when you need it? Well, I thank the Lord you letting me find your blog. This has been a difficult year in my life too. My mother was diagnosed with cancer right before Christmas last year and two months later my youngest son’s wife announced that she didn’t want to be married anymore (when their newborn daughter was only 3 months old). It has consumed so much of my time, that I find very little time for myself or my husband. I stopped crafting for about 8 months but thank you for your blog because I think the Lord has used it to let me know that it is OK for me to have some Me-Time without feeling so much guilt. Thank you so much!! Your projects are so beautiful and thank you also for teaching me new techniques! You have truly blessed my life.

    A sister in Christ,

    Dear Becca,

May your road be shared with friends, laughter lighten your load and your heart be joyful even in the dark and tired times.

As I used to tell my husbands doctor - come the end of the world there will be time enough to sleep!

It sounds like you have learned to bend with the winds and gather strength from God who shelters us more than we know.

Crafts of one kind or another have carried me through many kinds of need. And I learned a long time ago in Hospice that it is never selfish for caregivers to take time to recharge their “giving” batteries and openess of heart leads to openess of spirit.

My prayers are with you and all who you love. - Jean

Blessed be the name of the Lord and…
Blessed be the sisterhood of the traveling stamps!
Creativity is after all, a sure sign that the God who created the world also Created Us.

Yes, its true, you are Amazing!
Your story made me smile and I think I know you, not because we’ve personally met, but because I “understand” where you are in your life. Me too.
And for buying, and buying and buying some more. What’s up with that? I wish someone would study us to figure it out. We also love to straighten out our space and orgainize it ……….again and again, right?
Glad to have found a place to rest awhile. thanks!

Hi Becca. Glad to meet you through your blog!
I just read the comments to your blog, and have decided I want to know you better! Your work is beautiful, and I often need inspiration to create my own.
One of the comments spoke of a video showing how to create a circle using border punches. I will be checking that out!
    Blessings,
