Day of Giving Friday: You Make Me Smile

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Greetings friends!  If you’ve been reading here lately, you know that my Mom came to stay for several weeks.  I’m working my heart out on CHA projects – a big hint about this at the end of my post!!  In the interim, mom and I have been chatting the days away while I work.  What a breath of fresh air to have someone to talk to and I’m sure after I take her to the airport today, she’ll  be thankful for a moment of silence.  So that’s where I’ve been hiding!  I wouldn’t have missed a moment of listening to her.  I’ve taught her to Skype and the ins and outs of group texting.

WRBF-4849-2015
Today is Day of Giving Friday! It’s an opportunity to send out a card to one of you who are so gracious to stop by and visit.   By leaving a comment, one of my readers worldwide will win the card.  If you are new to my blog and and want more details on Day of Giving Friday, check it out on my FAQ List at #11.  My card today is an older card and some of the supplies are not available but certainly I hope you can use this for inspiration.

For your comment today, who is the last loved one you’ve hugged and what was the occasion?

Hint, hint, hint – CHA is right around the corner.  I’ve been working for the last six months on new dies for next year.  (Yes I’m still floating out ideas for the dies that were just released).  On Monday, December 7th I’ll be sneak peeking a new die you haven’t seen before.  Think “day of giving” and be sure to stop by on Monday to have a peek. You know no sneak peek is complete without prizes!!

    Hi Becca,
What a lovely card and all the nice lace.I don’t have any love ones near by ,only my husband and it does not have to be special to hug him.
Bet you will miss having your Mom around.
    Take care YvonneReplyCancel

My hubby is the last one I hugged. He comes up and hugs me spontaneously from time to time, but ever since his knee replacement surgery a little over two weeks ago it’s been a LOT more often…can’t say I’m sorry about that one! LOL He is a sweetie!ReplyCancel

This card is just gorgeous, Becca!
White on white is so elegant, and I love the dies and embossing folder you have used for this one. Also the lace is wonderful :))
    For your question;
the last loved one I hugged was my mom when I visited her yesterday. We meet approximately monthly, and always have a lovely time together :))ReplyCancel

What an amazingly gorgeous card Becca, that lace is just so beautiful.
The last loved one I hugged was my dear husband as he left for work this morning, I’ve been doing this for 42 years. I hug him when he leaves, when he comes home and in between, LOL!!
I also hugged my youngest daughter Adriana, who lives next door, this morning when she came over to pick up a card I made for a friend of hers who is retiring.
The other loved one I hugged was a sweeter than sweet friend who came from Mexico to stay at our home for 4 days, it was amazing to have her with us, we haven’t seen her in almost 5 years, we love her so much.
Thank you for this question Becca, we should hug our loved ones every single day!!ReplyCancel

  • Mary EstherDecember 4, 2015 - 2:26 pm

Thank you for the chance to win your gorgeous card!

Other than my husband, the last loved ones I hugged were my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. It had been a year since we had to been together. Saying “See you later…” is so difficult because it could be a long time until we are together again. I am so thankful for the days we had together and even for the tears when we hugged as we said goodbye. The love we share spans the distance between us (IN and FL!)ReplyCancel

Not ten minutes ago, I left my sweet daughter who lives in a DD group home following a couple of doctor’s appointments for her. She is 18 and has been unable to live safely at home for nearly four years. It has been heartbreaking to have to parent her from afar, and we love her so much. She is making small improvements and we celebrate each tiny step. She is a wonderful person, and it is a joy to have seen her today, and the hugs today were a gift. I would definitely send this card to her!

Blessings Becca…and bye, Mom…have a safe journey to your next stop, and a blessed Christmas season.ReplyCancel

    Lovely card!

Seems to me that I tend to hug dear neighbors, friends and family members alot but sadly they keep passing away. I have just lost 2 good friends right before Thanksgiving.

My own family disowned me, but my hubby’s large family have adopted me. But I do not get to see them nearly as much as I would like to as they all work and both my hubby and I are disabled and unable to work.ReplyCancel

  • Barbara TranquillaDecember 4, 2015 - 3:55 pm

Beautiful, Becca–your talent, kindness, and the card. You delivered your mom out of a terrible time, losing Ben. You managed to carry her along as you did your daily routine and work responsibilities–easing her back into life’s flow. The card uses old ‘friends’ but you come up with a new, fresh look with off-white on off-white. Maybe it’s your bow, maybe your placement, maybe using circles with diagonal pieces of lace. What ever it is it works. It is not easy to do, talent shows so I let you do the designing and I am happy duplicating after the fact. Can’t wait for you to use your new dies–Cascading Grace and multiple pockets. Even without your guide cards I can do something special with them. Looking forward to Monday, though. Thanks, Barbara
Since I can’t recall a recent hug, it means I have to give some to those around me I care about–initiate and not wait to reciprocate.ReplyCancel

  • Sandy ArtmanDecember 4, 2015 - 3:56 pm

    Hi, Becca,
Doesn’t just thinking about hugs make you smile? Having memories of Thanksgiving with my family fresh in my mind, they were certainly considered in response to your question. However, I’m in a choral community and one of our members is a victim of violent crime. Many of us held her, this week, in healing hugs hoping they can undo some of the damage caused by her horrific experience. Hugs are great, wordless, communicators of love and they benefit the giver as much as the receiver. Now that’s something to smile about!

Beautiful, beautiful card, Becca. In the wake of your loss of your brother and the void left by your mom’s absence, I am so delighted to hear that you have exciting news to anticipate and share.

    Love and blessings,
    SandyReplyCancel

Last night some friends and family came over for Stampin’ Night.
I hugged most of them as they were leaving. It’s getting close to the holidays and I might not see them before then, the two granddaughters fixed a chair that had a wobbly leg (thanks hug) and another hugges every time she leaves.
Enjoy all of the hugs. Glad your mom got to visit. I know it will be sorry seeing her go home. take care.ReplyCancel

Becca, this card is just breathtaking. I have looked at it in depth to try and figure out exactly how you did it. It is a winner for sure. So glad you had a nice time with your Mom. The last person that I hugged was my wonderful husband and the reason was “just because”. I love him so much and am so fortunate to still have him in my life as so many of my friends’ husbands have passed on. I cherish every day with him. Thanks so much for sharing this gorgeous card and have a wonderful weekend.ReplyCancel

  • Norah McPheeDecember 4, 2015 - 4:19 pm

    Good evening Becca,
What a beautiful card Becca and it being all tone on tone makes it so gorgeous and probably my favourite style of card. I love how you have added the different textures into it with the aid of the stunning lace and they ribbon making the bow along with the pearls. Gorgeous Becca, simply gorgeous.
My 16year old son how is autistic gives me a hug every day and quite a few times during it along with a kiss and tells me just how much he loves me and I am so very, very lucky to have this special person in my life and to be his mum as he is the kindest most loving child that you could ever wish to meet. He is a charming, intelligent, manner able young man and I am so very proud of him.
I bet that the incredible lady that you took to the airport today Becca sat there more than willingly listening to her pride and joy talking away, watching her work and just bringing back memories of times gone past. You would do each other the power of good with all that your mum and her beloved family have been through this past few months so I don’t think that she would be thinking any time about wanting peace and quiet to come back into her life. You have given her the tools to be able to visit and open her world from her chair so that she doesn’t miss any of her family or friends.
Sending hugs and love across the miles to you

What a spectacular card, Becca! So lovely.
I’m a bit of a hugger since I read that for some lonely people, sharing the Peace in the Communion service, is the only time that they touch another person! That was a real eye opener for me and as I run a group where a number of the members are widows who live alone and away from family, we instituted hugs! A while ago, one lady said, ‘I’m queueing up for my hug’!
A friend and her husband have just visited, so that was 2 more hugs today! And i always sign off in this way….

A beautiful card design today. Lots of love showing on this one. Glad you had a wonderful time with your Mom. You deserve this special time. For today’s question: who was the last loved one you’ve hugged and what was the occasion? My newest and most treasured friend and I shared time and lunch together this week. We missed our time together last week. Each of us drove separately and met at a designated restaurant. As usual, we hugged each other before lunch and again when it was time to say goodbye. I am so blessed to have a wonderful and caring friend as she.ReplyCancel

Becca, aside from my sweet hubby, the last loved person I hugged was my daughter when we were at her house in October (looking forward to hugging her again for Christmas too…our best present). Please do give your Sweet Mom a big hug, and I’m so glad that she got to come stay for a while with you. I know that it did you both a world of good, to spend some quality time. Now that she knows how to Skype & text, you won’t feel so far apart, hopefully. It’s very hard to do those goodbyes, no matter how much you keep in touch. And the card today is just stunning, and how fortunate will be the reader who is blessed to receive it. Happy wkend. Blessings & hugsReplyCancel

Becca, treasure every moment with your mom. I know how much you appreciate family and friends. I hugged my daughter and boyfriend when they visited last week. I am sure you will miss your mom greatly when she departs. Your card is so beautiful.ReplyCancel

I love this card – an elegant and gracious feeling to it. I’ll be attempting to make one similar to take on my next visit to my bf who is now in a care facility. I know she would love looking at it. The very last loved one I hugged was my doggy pal, Charly. She my lovable companion doggy daughter. I can count on her to be here when I’m happy, sad or unhappy and she really listens to everything I have to say. Cute, eh? My second loving hug went to my husbands who does love me but only listens to half of what I say. Still cute tho.ReplyCancel

Such a beautiful card!!! Today I received a surprise hug from a lady in my water aerobics class. She knew I have been feeling depressed because I planned a Christmas luncheon for the group and then a few scrooges complained enough that the games were canceled as was the gift exchange. I almost didn’t go to the luncheon. But because of her hug, I went and enjoyed myself. The ladies all loved the snowflake coasters I made for them.ReplyCancel

  • Connie CDecember 4, 2015 - 9:39 pm

Love the elegance of this card. The last person I hugged was my best friend and the occasion was because we had just had coffee together and I was leaving to go home. I hug all my kids and my friends as we part ways. After my husband’s sudden death and no opportunity to give that last goodbye hug, it seems especially important these days to do so. Thanks for your inspiring blog, Becca, and Christmas blessings to you and yours as well!ReplyCancel

I needed a smile today and your card did the trick!!!!! Gorgeous card Becca, and I hope you will share your CHA projects with those of us who can not attend CHA.
It does my heart good to hear you talk about all the special moments you and your Mom shared during her visit. My Mom lives with us, but suffers from dementia/Alzheimer. We are at the point of no return. I do not even recognize this person that has taken over, but wish I had my old Mom back. I so miss being able to spend quality time with her, but I am afraid those days are long gone. It is hard to watch this disease take over, and even harder to live with. Listening to you talk about your Mom makes me remember how it use to be with myself and my Mom. Good memories to hang on to. Thanks.
    Hugs,
    MarcieReplyCancel

It’s winter here in Minnesota. They days are so short that we go to work and come home in the dark. It makes it very hard to keep your spirits up. We need a reason to smile. Your card today is totally on the mark. Thanksgiving, I was especially grateful to hug so many in the extended family. I think the last person out the door was my daughter-in-law, who is wonderful. She truly makes me smile. God Bless, Becca. This must have been a difficult Thanksgiving for your family. It’s good to hug your family near to hug.ReplyCancel

My mom is the last person I hugged, last night as I am visiting her. She lives 4 hours away and is going thru some health issues. It was so nice to hug her in person, though we “hug” on the phone all the time. I love giving hugs to family and friends, and some strangers too lol.
To me hugs represent Love and Caring. It gives you an instant sense of well-being and that someone cares for you, and almost always gives a Smile to both giver and receiver.
