Day of Giving Friday: New Borders, New Card

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Graceful Borders and Graceful Frame Maker - see full supply list at www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweet friends, by now I’m on my way back home.  No worries, I have Day of Giving Friday covered, however today it’s going to be a little bit different.  Today,  I have a video.  Over the past couple of days I debuted a new collection of dies manufactured by Spellbinders and sold exclusively by Create and Craft!  That means the dies are readily available in the US and the UK, not only that, they are available right now.   On the video, I’m going to demo a card made using the new dies. I’m also going to give away the first card made with this new collection.  No links today though – remember, everything is at Create and Craft.

So often when designing dies I try to think of things that were hits or I received email requests for over the years. This collection has been on my drawing board for several years and I’m so thankful it’s finally out.  Let me tell you a bit about the inspiration —  I make extensive use of borders in my card making and once upon a time I made a well requested type of card that showed you how to miter die cut borders or border punches.  Before now, the mitered card was difficult to teach because the cuts were hard to make – well no more!!  You will be able to produce mitered cards, make frames for small prints and even cut simple frames for scrapbook pages – my new Graceful Borders and the Graceful Frame Maker die make this achieveable.  Check out the video and you’ll discover that the Frame Maker will extend all the dies you have in your stash.  I’ve experimented around a bit and it hit me that using the Frame Maker die  some of your 6″ dies that have decorative features will give you combinations that no one has ever seen before!

My recommendation is to start by mitering simple borders like the Petite Scallops until you get the hang of things.  If you are more adventurous, by all means jump in with the more detailed borders and try your hand at it.  While you are at it, drag out some of your old dies and see if they are a candidate for a custom mitered frame!   It’s all about experimenting!  My tutorial will show you how.

It was so nice to see you live on Create and Craft UK, Becca. I was lucky enough to win a card made by Christine on the first show. I can’t wait for the FrameMaker to arrive and play.
I always find yellow hard to use, I don’t have much in my stash and it’s not a colour I usually reach for.ReplyCancel

Oh Becca I am so excited for you to see your dreams coming true – Congratulations!!

I love this card with not onloy the fabulous die cuts but also that gorgeous dusky blue!
What colour do I not use that I wish I could use confidently – hmmm – I use a lot of colours and generally don’t have hassles, but I suspect I run shy of using a lot of black in my cards.

It was so wonderful to see you on C&C with the lively Andy. Your demo was excellent and I can’t wait to try these dies. I don’t think I am hesitant to use any color, it’s just that I tend to fall back on the tried and true; however, I have been using quite a bit of patterned paper lately, and I love that look.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. Hope you have a safe and speedy journey back home. Great to see you on UK TV. I emailed in to your second show as I promised I would and you waved on TV so I waved back. Ha! Lovely dies and samples. I rarely use red, yellow or orange as they are colours I don’t particularly like much for some reason. I am more a pink purple and blue girl.ReplyCancel

By the way Becca, am watching both of your shows and absolutely adore your laugh! You are doing a wonderful job on the shows. You look relaxed & professional and the hosts seem to be impressed with your abilities and tips. Now to the business at hand. I use alot of metal colors, bronze, copper, gold & silver but wish I could somehow work in OPALS especially the white fire type. Just cannot seem to make it work.
The new sets look incredible and we cannot wait to get ahold of them but not sure how well they will work with my old cuttlebug.ReplyCancel

Wow…I’m already figuring out how to make rectangles using the tool. What a nifty ool that is! I love it!

I’m not overly concerned of orange, though I have been pushing myself to use it more. I have a hard time with it, though.

Welcome home to this side of the Atlantic. And happy Thanksgiving… You and your creativity bles my life. Thank you.

    Morning Becca,
Firstly can I say I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day
I really enjoyed seeing you and your new dies are fantastic and what a brilliant idea your Frame Maker is and the Borders Dies are so beautiful.
Your cards on the show were as always amazing and an inspiration to us all. I tend not to use yellow when card making although it is probably because I cannot seem to find a shade I like. I do to use Turquoise, Lilac and blue as these are my favourite colours
I do hope that you enjoyed your short stay here with us and that it was the first of many.
Thank you also for your generosity in offering a Platinum 6 Machine and One of your fabulous dies to a lucky person, I am sure that they will love it I know I would.
Have a safe journey home Becca and then put your feet up for a few days and rest.

    Good morning Becca,
How in the world did you have the time to post your “Day of Giving Friday”? I watched createandcraft.com both from the UK and the US. So happy to see you so happy. I hope your Collection sold out in both Countries. It is a beautiful Collection and cannot wait until I get mine. Also, I cannot wait to see what you do with the multitude of “borders”. I have so many ideas that I cannot sleep, so I went into my craft space and played with the Borders that I have. Happy to say your
6 x 6 frame will become my sidekick for some time. My mitered corners aren’t as pretty as I see here on your card. Cannot wait! So HAPPY for you! Have you found your BRAVE yet? Hugs, Sara
PS: Hot pink is the hardest one for me. I love earth tones and most of the spring tones, but give me the hot summer tones and I cringe. However, you looked beautiful in your HOT PINK/ROSE/FUCIA BLOUSE. The BLUE ONE SEEMED A BIT QUIET. Gotta’ toot your own horn as you have something unique to sell.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, your new dies are amazing just like you. Unfortunately I wasn´t able to make it home here in time for the shows, god knows, I really tryed, as I so wanted to see you there, but hard traffic just made it impossible for me, so I was devastated, but I sure don´t hope, it´ll be the last time, we´ll see you over here? But I´ve seen your wonderful dies, and I just absolutely LOVE them girlfriend.
About the card, i would love to make is these all white on white kinds., I just so love, how they looks, when everybody else makes them, just that mine never get to look that good, when I try, so I always ends up throwing them in the bin, but I would really wish, I could make something simular, as they looks sooo fabulous.
You go home and have a good rest here now this week-end and just pamper yourself, I really think, you deserve that.ReplyCancel

What an amazing concept you have in your frame-makers. I admire any product that increases the usability of things in my stash.

To answer your question, I never use orange in my crafting, but to be truthful, it is greens that I have the most trouble with, finding them hard to coordinate with other shades. This is particularly true when creating foliage to coordinate with florals.ReplyCancel

This is the card that is so beautiful. Your dies make everything look very complicated, but are easy to do.
I don’t use yellow even though I know it can be such a happy color.ReplyCancel

  • LoisNovember 25, 2016 - 2:03 pm

I love the new die. The card is very pretty. I find alot of the different shades of green hard to work with. Using a multicolor patterned paper does help though. Glad to hear all went well for you. Rest up and thank you.ReplyCancel

  • Barbara TranquillaNovember 25, 2016 - 2:07 pm

Hi Becca, Wow! Can’t believe your die wasn’t mass produced as soon as you created it. Got to have it and the border dies, also. Sure hope there isn’t a delay getting them onto the US market before UK buys them all up. Beautiful card by a beautiful lady who happens to be smart and generous with her talent. Many thanks, BarbaraReplyCancel

The frame maker is just beautiful and I can’t wait to order it! The color green is my challenge. I use it mostly for leaves and foliage but as a background it never works for me. :(ReplyCancel

Graceful Becca. Thank you for the great design of the Graceful borders and Graceful Frame Maker. These items will be my Christmas gift to myself. So excited and can’t wait to order from Create and Craft. Mauve is a color I never seem to use so I will use Mauve the first time I use the frame maker.Mauve is a color I wear regularly so I will try experimenting with mauve papers and card. Love your posts and to see your beautiful work.ReplyCancel

Just watched your video and enjoyed it , those dies will be very helpful for making those mitered corners.I find orange a hard color to work with.ReplyCancel

  • Sara AlfordNovember 25, 2016 - 3:11 pm

    Hello Becca,
Forgive the number of emails these past 3 days, but I’m so jazzed about your new collection. After watching your tutorial today, I took your advice and used my A2 Filigree Delight rectangular die which has an oval center. I was successful in mitering the corners (although not perfect without the frame) and was surprised to see that the center was a perfect circle. So I used the nesting circles to cut a center circle, added a sentiment and, as you said….wala! Love the way you think out-of-the-box.
    Hugs, SaraReplyCancel

I have been following you for a long time but was never able to make those beautiful elegant cards you make for lack of dies. Well I ordered the complete set today from Create and Craft. Hopefully now I will have the dies I need to create those elegant cards. Thank you for making this possible for us.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, lovely to see you on C&C on Wednesday with your fabulous new collection of dies. Your frame maker looks to be a hit with everyone.
The colour I’m not good with is a very bright yellow. Pastel yellow is lovely but definitely not the bright shade.
Hope your journey home was a good one, xxReplyCancel

  • LizzieNovember 25, 2016 - 5:20 pm

  • Margie FulcherNovember 25, 2016 - 5:35 pm

Becca: Thank you for an inspirational video. I watched you on create and craft. Will your dies be sold separately any time soon? The paper I like but do not use a lot is the kraft paper. There are a lot of beautiful cards made with the kraft paper, but for some unknown reason, I shy away from it. Thank you for always sharing your talent.ReplyCancel

This design is SO fabulous!! You totally talked me into it yesterday! I think it will make rectangles, too. I never really thought about having trouble with a color, but as I look at my array of colors, I seem to use less red. I dunno why.ReplyCancel

Beautiful & clever, Becca! Such wonderful new tools! I’m sure thankful for your creativity! So… orange. Works for Halloween, but can’t get brave enough to use it for anything else. Even for Fall, I use a pumpkin color but just can’t brave orange! Blessings to you, Becca,

I have trouble using black as it is such a “strong” color. I prefer to use other neutrals instead–gray, browns.ReplyCancel

  • Marilyn in E~townNovember 25, 2016 - 9:23 pm

WOWZIER, what a wonderful video, talk about “I’m so excited to purchase these” you make it look so effortlessly.
I also love what you did with your bow, having the tails go under neath, such a great idea!
Red, red, red is the color I don’t use, or use confidently at all! Maybe I should pull up my “big girl panties” and try red more often, maybe a New Years resolution in my future.
?Thank you Becca for such thought provoking questions, have a Blessed weekend.ReplyCancel

    Good afternoon lovely lady,
I hope that you have got back home safe and sound from visiting us here in the UK. Your shows on C&C uk were so good and it was lovely seeing you making your appearance for us. I like so many of your blog followers just love when you craft, apart from your fantastic skill and inspirating works of art that you make, your soft tones are so very soothing to listen to and i could listen to your voice all day long. You are so calm about everything and how you explain things and you don’t make any one feel that they can’t, but encourage and support graciously. You made my weekend flower with your shows and probably i am not the only one, and so hope that you come back again soon.
The colour that i am never any good at is Black. I can take it on a design if it is done as a hint off, but not in the bold capacity that a lot of people use. I think lovely Sue Wilson knows when it’s not going to be a Norah card when she makes her inspirational masterpieces, but i’m getting better at accepting it but i need to improve some more to the actual using degree. Have a lovely weekend flower(yes, i’m the flower Norah from your C&C emails) and hope that the jet lag disapates soon,
    love and crafty hugs

I have just watched Create and Craft UK, featuring yourself, Becca. I have come to your website after being away some time (2010). Hi, Becca,
What a thrill it was to see you on Create & Craft! I was so proud of you stepping into your uncomfortable zone and with so much confidence and grace.
This was my first visit to C&C and I was impressed. It tickled me to hear Andy Hodgson being challenged, as we all are, in coming up with superlative adjectives to describe your creations. There simply aren’t enough words…
C&C made getting your new dies so attractive and affordable, it made me so happy to be able to finally give your creations the support that I have longed for.
Wishing you a happy and safe journey home. Job well done!
    Love and blessings,
    SandyReplyCancel

The Spellbinders Graceful Frame Maker is a tool AI must get. Wow, I cannot even begin to think of all the possibilities for its use. Your video was a great help in showing me various ways to use the Frame Maker. I’m going over to Create and Craft to get one now.ReplyCancel

Welcome home!! I was lucky enough to catch you on both the UK & US Create and Craft. Well done you! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the complete collection! Can’t wait to see what else you create with the new dies. I too make primarily A2 cards but venture into 5×7 and am looking forward to seeing your creations in your favorite format. I have a hard time with yellow – am rarely satisfied with the results.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
Your presentation on C&C was enthralling. I saw the borders and thought they were lovely; but then you introduced the piece de resistance, the Graceful Frame Maker. WHAT!! You clever girl you. You know what we need before we do. Not only do you share your talents with us, but now you give us tools to make beauty easy for us. Thank you! When you took the GFM to your Filigree Delight die, you knocked my socks off! As Mrs. Caron would say, “The possibilities are endless.” Can’t wait to see your next release!! About the color question: I don’t use pink often.ReplyCancel

Love this new die. I was able to watch just a little on my computer while you were on Create and Craft. I was taking care of my grandson while his mom and dad took his baby sister to the specialist at the children’s hospital. These new dies you designed look amazing! They are on my Christmas Wish List!

The color I use least is orange. I only use orange at Halloween and to make fall leaves. Not a color I naturally go to.ReplyCancel

Dear Becca, I watched you on create and craft show and loved it. You did great and the line you are introducing is marvelous. I do plan on making a purchase soon. You are one very talented lady and we are so blessed to have you guide and help us in our card making endeavors. One color I have in my stock is dark purple. I have used the light hues but have trouble with dark purple.ReplyCancel

Thank you for all the newness you have added to my card making Becca! I am going to be 79 years old on Christmas day and I’ve been making cards for the last 23 of them – doing what I love and loving what I do, but you put the icing on creating cards! I have never been so inspired as I presently am – you give new meaning to card making and I want to thank you for sharing it!

The card is beautiful! Are these dies available in the USA? I use all colors but am having a difficult time finding Bright White. I found some once at an office supply store but when I went back to purchase more, the store had been taken over by another company and they didn’t have it anymore. I can’t even find that brand on the internet. Since I can’t tell how bright the white is in pictures, what is the brightest white you use?ReplyCancel

I’ve never really thought about the colors I don’t use much. I would have to say orange and maybe black. I think that I tend to lean more to the pastel colors. I would also like to thank you for sharing your talents, designs, and knowledge. You have achieved so much.ReplyCancel

Oh, Becca, WOW! I’ve been sick and just now able to catch up and see your presentation on Create and Craft. I’m in love with the frame maker and the entire, awesome set. Unfortunately, both are sold out now. I hope that more are already on the way. You have so much talent and you are such an inspiration. Now that your are an experienced star I trust that we will see many more live presentations. As to color, no specific color comes to mind. Finding the perfect color combinations; that is a challenge.ReplyCancel
