Day of Giving Friday: Get Well

Get Well Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Captivating Squares - www.amazingpapergrace.com
My goodness, I can’t believe that another week has gone by!  I’ve put it off way too long, so I’m reorganizing my craft room and destashing.  I’ve come across so many treasures and been inspired at the same time.  I think the last straw was I went in the cabinet to look for something and it made me crazy that things were falling over and I couldn’t find anything.  One thing led to another :-)  My triumph this week is the 12 foot countertop that hasn’t seen the light of day for over a year, is finally clear!  My goal is just to clear up the stacks, I want to walk into a tidy room every morning so I still have a bit of clearing to do…   It’s a labor of love, I find such clarity when I’m cleaning!

Today is Friday, so that means Day of Giving Friday.  I’m happy to say that all prizes to date have been sent (finally).  The card shown above is up for grabs by a reader today, simply leave a comment and one name will be picked from the comments.  For more information about Day of Giving, on the Features menu above select FAQ’s and scroll down to number 11.

I belong to a group of women who have been getting together every month for the past 14 years to craft.  It’s always a highlight when I get to go but it ends up being purely a social occasion; I can’t say I get much done, but sure enjoy the company.  When I need to get something done, I dissappear to the depths of  ‘my room’ – I’ll admit, I’m an alone crafter.  That leads to my question for you today . . .

For today’s comment – How about you, do you craft best in a group or are you the picture of focus and craft alone?

I’m in between . . . I craft best when I have just one or two other folks there to work alongside. It’s great to be able to bounce ideas off each other. Any more than 2 folks, and we just end up visiting, and not getting much crafting done ;)ReplyCancel

Beautiful card but, what??? No pink???? Tee Hee Love how you kept it elegantly simple yet so feminine.
I, too, am a solo crafter. I find that if I work with a group, I talk too much or end up teaching. Besides, I never can pack for a crop.
Trying to clean up my room also. Can never find what I want.

Love your card, Becca. I enjoy crafting alone. I get too distracted by people and noise, so I guess you could say I’m a lone wolf.ReplyCancel

I’m definitely an alone crafter when I need to get a lot done in one crafting session. I enjoy the company of friends, but, like you, I do more socializing than card Making! LOVE your card today. So gorgeous, Becca! Thx for sharing with all of us!

Who wouldn’t have a smile on their face receiving this? My mom has been having some health issues and it’s been stressful for all of us. I can only imagine how scared she is sometimes. It’s sad, but as I get older, I am sending more “Get Well” cards than I ever imagined.ReplyCancel

  • Carolyn LSeptember 4, 2015 - 8:23 am

One pertinent question: How is it that you Know which stack contains the item you need but Don’t Know where you put it when the room is clean?

I’ve given up and let chaos fuel my creative process…..definitely solo. Too much socializing and nearly no work accomplished when friends are present.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca. Love your gorgeous card with the beautiful colours. I too am a solo crafter – preferring to do my own thing in my own time with a little background music!! Hugs xxxReplyCancel

Beautiful card! I can’t believe your room needed to be organized! You are the epitome of organization! But, I know how quickly things get out of hand in a craft room! I prefer to be alone with music (country, 60s oldies, Motown, and piano) when I create. I love Pandora as I don’t have to change CDs all the time now, if I can only quit losing my wifi signal!ReplyCancel

How beautiful. The purple really pops. I like to work on my own. Having just moved I swore to myself that I’d keep my desk clean after every project. It’s been two months and it’s still clean. It really isn’t hard to do. Good luckReplyCancel

What a beautiful card. I usually craft alone because I don’t belong to any craft groups. However once in great while if we have a special event a group of us might get together to make favors or centerpieces.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
What a beatiful card! I have to admit having a hubby who works from home & a noisy household of kids lol I am an alone crafter. As much as I like to socialise I enjoy the peace & tranquility of crafting alone.

Oh Becca what a lovely card and like your colors. I know what you mean to have to clean your craft space I get it all clean and start crafting again and end up in the same mess. When I craft with some friends I find I don’t get much done, only if I have got all the parts together for my cards then all I need to asamble them,if not I don’t get much done or I end up teaching some thing. This is another subject a bought a Tool’N’One and loved it then the bristles started coming out now they have all come out , has anyone have this happen to them, I have e-mailed Spellbinders about this but no reply so far.ReplyCancel

  • LisaSeptember 4, 2015 - 8:37 am

Good for you Becca! It’s tough to keep crafting stuff inline and I find it’s very distracting to have my stuff disorganized when I craft so I’m sad to say I probably spend more time tidying my craft room than actually crafting….I guess that’s why I wind up card making/sewing/scrapbooking on the dinner table! A Plus is that I get some exercise running back up the stairs to use the big shot! Haha. I craft a lot at home with my playlist on my sound dock but I have to say I prefer group crafting cause then I get to socialize as I don’t get to do that much.
    Have a wonderful day!ReplyCancel

Great minds think alike! I’ve been doing some re-organizing this morning, as well. I can let it go so long before it starts cutting off my creativity! LOL

I like stamping by myself. When I go to stamping weekends or with others, I get so overwhelmed and want to do it ALL!!!! Invigorating…yes, lots of ideas to try…yes; I need to walk away and refocus! Enough about me!

I love the Get Well card because it shows me yet another way to use my larger silk flowers. You continue to inspire!ReplyCancel

For paper crafting, I get more done by myself. I enjoy the card making group at my church, the socializing and seeing others’ creativity. But, when I want to really get things done, by myself is best.

Knitting, however, is much more social for me. I can talk and knit just fine!ReplyCancel

  • Cathie WearySeptember 4, 2015 - 8:51 am

Gorgeous card today Becca. I love to take a class to learn new techniques but I never really get anything finished as I do find it a social time for me. I love to get in my craft room and create by myself. I find it so relaxing and an escape from reality.ReplyCancel

  • RhondaSeptember 4, 2015 - 8:51 am

Now that question is easy. I do my best crafting when I’m alone. That way I can leisurely go through my stash and take my time deciding what I want to do or use. It gets my creative juices flowing and at the same time I find it so relaxing and so rejuvenating.ReplyCancel

  • marylouhSeptember 4, 2015 - 8:53 am

I do best crafting alone. With people around – there’s distractions by conversation, questions, borrowing supplies, etc.
I like to have quiet – where I can concentrate and think about what I’m doing. I can make a flash decision to change something.
Also don’t like a lot of suggestions from others – I want this to be my creation.
I was an only-child so I guess I’m geared to think in quiet.
Love the card. The purples are so pretty. The layering is beautiful.
I’m going through a tooth infection so this get-well card would be wonderful to receive.
    thanksReplyCancel

  • Connie L. RileySeptember 4, 2015 - 9:10 am

Good Morning Becca. I absolutely love the purple and white with all its layers and ribbons. The corner die cuts really help set each layer distinctly. For you question, I would have to say I do both. I have a group at a lss that plays together and tries out new crafting techniques. I find this a great way to spark creativity and feed upon other people’s enthusiasm. A best friend and I get together once a month to craft and I find that another avenue. And then, there are the late night sessions when I’m alone in my craft room working out the problems I have with this or that. I don’t prefer one way over another, just whatever fits with my mood and my social schedule at any given time!ReplyCancel

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this card. It is my colors and certainly one that I will try to do. I just purchased the Spellbinders Captivating Squares and I have all of your dies so I should be able to do this. I, too, am in a group of ladies that we get together once a month to craft. Since they are mostly scrapbookers it has helped me to get some scrapbook pages done. When I do card making the best is when I am on my own in my room. Tuesday is our time to get together and at this moment you can not see the tables we use, so it appears that cleaning will need to start soon. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.ReplyCancel

My group of 5 gals is just to much fun to focus on our cards ,we are lucky if we make one card each. We get together each Tuesday and the girlfriend chatter starts even before we sit down (: We share all the cards we made during the week and all the new “stuff” we bought! Of course we LOVE your new Spellbinders dies and although we try to buy different dies to share, not yours, we all just had to buy them so we could play with them whenever we wanted. so the answer to this weeks question, I get a lot more done at home alone using your cards and blog as my inspiration. I love this weeks card PICK ME :)ReplyCancel

Love all the shades of purple in today’s card… it’s the second best color after pink I do believe!! I too do my best work alone, even though I do enjoy those days when I get together with the girls. As far as keeping my craft room tidy… it’s a must with my OCD. I can’t stand to see mess… it will drive me crazy !! Thanks for all you do and share with the crafting world Becca !!ReplyCancel

Gorgeous card in my favourite colour!! I craft alone when I’m card making because none of my friends papercraft. However, I am in a group of WI friends who craft together weekly and we do various things eg, patchwork, crochet etc. It is lovely when you can teach somebody else a skill they don’t have, and then you can also learn a new craft. Although so far we haven’t done anything new to me … lol! Still, the company is great – not to mention the chatter and tea and cakes!! Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

This is absolutely gorgeous, Becca! I love purple, and every shade of it, and what a wonderful way to showcase a pretty flower. I have tried doing group card-making and stamping. I am pretty much your introvert and self-conscious about my work on top of it all, so I do better in my own little corner.ReplyCancel

  • SuzzieQSeptember 4, 2015 - 9:49 am

Good morning, first I wish to comment on today’s card. It is a stunning vision in shades of lavender. Happy colors for me. Love that purple! Beaucoup of layers and embelishments here all perfectly created and formed to make this amazing card. You have again inspired me. Now to today’s question. I, too, get together with ladys for a crafting session. I started going so I could learn some techniques. Not having received much formal education in art but years and years of music, I felt I needed to expand my knowledge. I also felt a need to learn techniques to help me in my card making. I always enjoyed “playing” with my crayons, oil paints, and especially water colors and could spend hours doing so. Besides learning some techniques in these sessions, what I found in meeting with these ladys, is the tremendous amount of talent in the group, and the wonderful camaraderie I have received with them which I so desperately need at this time in my life. I come away from these meetings feeling fulfilled and giddy. Having said that, I craft best by myself among my papers, glues, dies and embossing folders, and embellishments, etc. When I craft at home, I stay focused and rarely even have music playing in the back ground. Seems I focus better in solitude when I craft. Congratulations on getting your room orgainzed. I envy your dedication to do so. I am still in the “I would rather create than clean up”! Like you, if I would do a good clean up, I would find treasures that have become buried in my stashes! lol. Please note I said stashES. Wishing all a wonderful weekend. Stay safe.ReplyCancel

  • Barbie D.September 4, 2015 - 9:51 am

Becca, your card is gorgeous and in my favorite color. I do my best stamping alone. A friend and I try to get together once a week for a card making session but it usually ends up a gab fest so not much stamping occurs.ReplyCancel

  • A. T.September 4, 2015 - 9:52 am

Your card is so thoughtful and full of the promise of someone caring. I hope I am fortunate enough to receive this piece of beauty, not to be hoarded, but sent out to someone I am thinking of who just got some bad news after a round of chemotherapy. The promise of someone caring could be helpful, even if it brings a smile to my friend, for just a moment, at a really challenging time. Thank you for the possibility!ReplyCancel

  • Shirley ZimmerSeptember 4, 2015 - 9:54 am

Yes, Becca, I’m with you. I do get together with family members at times to do crafts, but I find I focus best when alone. You are right when you say it turns out to be a social “hour”, but certainly lots of fun and something to look forward to. Love your card, but am wondering what the circle die is called. I envy that you are “cleaning out” which is something I sure need to do. Hate to see things pile up. You are an inspiration!ReplyCancel

  • Anne (UK)September 4, 2015 - 9:57 am

Such a pretty card and lovely colours.
I too am organising my crafting goodies as my husband has put up some new IKEA cubes which I am slowly filling with my left arm and hand. This could take a while one-handed! Hope your progress is much swifter than mine, Becca!
I certainly accomplish more when I craft alone as in a group, I seem to be constantly off looking for things for everyone else. Not that I mind, but I tend to achieve very little when in a group!
    Hugs

Another stunning card Becca! Love all the layering and, above all, all the shades of purple, always my go-to colors. I’m definitely an “alone crafter.” I don’t do well in a group, that’s why I rarely attend crops and/or stamping parties. I do have a friend that comes over weekly when our schedules permit, mostly because she “needs” to have some girly time away from her husband.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca! It does feel good to reorganize a crafty space and start fresh every time. It must have been a breath of fresh air to see your big 12 foot counter top again!

I am fortunate to craft with several ladies. We meet monthly and sometimes in between. It is a good excuse to get together and have fun while doing what we love. Some meetings I get a lot done and I shock myself by doing so. Sometimes the get togethers result in not as much done but I don’t mind at all! Playing with paper and hanging out with friends is a great time.

    Have a good weekend, Becca!ReplyCancel

I love your flower card. I was just out in my garden this morning and realized purple is a dominant color! Lovely card as always Becca. I craft alone most but I do go to a card making group one a fortnight where everything is done by hand! Dies are a nono there and a craft group once a month which is good for trying new crafts as it gives you a taster for something new. Glad your tidy up is going well. It will be worth all your efforts I am sure. We’ve just decorated the kitchen so its been chaos here but today normal service has resumed and it looks so much better than before. It was a light green colour on the walls but now it’s a soft coffee colour which I like! I never can envisage quite what it will look like in my minds eye before its on the walls despite doing a tester patch. TFS.ReplyCancel

    Beautiful card. Love those corners.

I craft best alone. I think it’s because when I get together with the others they always need help so I don’t get much done. But, I love teaching them because they get so excited and they are so appreciative.

I’m glad you’re getting some space cleared up. There’s nothing like walking into a clean craft space. It feels good. It really does.ReplyCancel

    Hi there Becca,
Such a plesant view to look inhere today and see this amazing and soooo beautiful card here. You´ve just as usual made such a gorgeous piece of art.
About crafting I must admi9t, that I´m exactly like you. I love to go to gatherings, but it´s more for the sociale part of it and getting inspiration and new ideas, as I very rare get anything done. I first get the work done, when I´m sitting in my craftbarn all by my self with just the radio on to keep me compagny. But then I can also get lost for hours and almost days in my own little paperworld he he.
And guess what is just moved in here with me today? It´s my birthday here very soon, and this week-end my craftstore also celebrates their birthday, so hubby took me there to do some great shopping, and guess what? She had just yesterdauy got home for me, all the way from the US?? Yep it´s 4 packs of your amazing dies, so now I´ve finally got my hands on both Swirl Bliss packs and both Arched Elegance packs too, so now I can finally get to play with those amazing boxes and cards you shared with us a loooong time ago. I totally fell in love with those, but noone here had your dies, but now she had taken these home just for me, so I´m a very happy bunny here today ha ha ha.
Have a wonderful week-end everyone and lots of crafty fun. I know, I will for sure.ReplyCancel

The short answer is “alone” but that can happen by myself or in a group at a crop. I just have to be “in the zone”. Can I say that I would love, love, love to fall into one or more of your rabbit holes! What fun and inspiration that would be. Hugs.ReplyCancel

I love to craft in a group, but do just as well alone. However, when crafting alone, I am soooo messy, and tend to go on to another project before I clean up the one just finished. I really need a “crafting fairy” to go behind me and clean things up! :)
Beautiful card Becca, with a gorgeous bow!ReplyCancel

  • Joni StonekingSeptember 4, 2015 - 1:26 pm

What a rich collection of purples in that card! Love it!

I like the social aspect of getting together to do some crafting, but once I get going in a group, I tend to get quiet and do my thing. If I am really intent on creating, or getting a lot done, then I have the Mom CAVE for a reason. It may not have a door but it is aptly named. Don’t bug me unless there is smoke WITH fire or there are copious amounts of blood.

Good job getting the counter cleared off…I am jealous of a 12 foot space…wow! And I know how you feel. Sometimes it just has to be done! I find myself with projects lining up, supplies all gathered, until finally th space is covere. Makes me crazy! I love walking into clean, ready to use space so I really try to keep it ready to go. Occasionally the bad disorganized fairies get in there and things explode. Glad to know there is a group of them at your house too!

Thanks, Becca, for another giving day…

I love the social aspect of crafting together, but I prefer to craft alone. I get more done and I like having all my “stash” and supplies where they are handy rather than being somewhere and not having what I want. It’s more trouble to me to get together a project to take along somewhere than to do it at home. Beautiful card…seems like I’ve needed a lot of get well cards lately.ReplyCancel

  • ChelseaSeptember 4, 2015 - 1:59 pm

Becca, that is a lovely Get Well card and will cheer anyone during a time of illness. Thank you for the inspiration.
As a paper crafter, I do more work when I am alone, as in cranking our the finished product.
But I do love crafting with a group – for a different reason. Not to just crank out the cards. I enjoy crafting with a group for the friendship and the sharing of ideas. I think it is very stimulating to see what others are creating and to be able to encourage each other on the journey of paper crafting.
Paper crafters are generous and giving people and often share ideas and techniques freely. Most other craft people are very proprietary and unwilling to share.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca! I am afraid that I am a ‘lone’ crafter, also. I invite my 6 Grand Daughters over to make cards and I end up just watching them create and finding anything they need. At get-togethers I cannot get inspired to craft. Your card today is beautiful…as all of them are. It is a great idea to make and have on hand for Get Well cards.ReplyCancel

I am more productive when I am alone, but prefer to be in a group. Unfortunately, with the closing of so many small shops, it is harder and harder to be in a group. And I miss my crafting friends!ReplyCancel

How I would love an empty workspace! While group crafting allows for encouraging one another I work best by myself. I have an “upper room” which is very messy, not enough storage for the amount of stuff I have, but it is cosy where I can focus on who I am making a card for and their circumstances, which to me is all important. Your cards continue to inspire.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card! Great dies! Just need your help locating the circle part. Probably staring me in the face, but I’m missing it!!!
    Beautiful!
To answer your question – I’m usually a “crafting loner” I seem to do my best work at the oddest hours of the day! Never on command within a group – It’s just not my thing! I do dearly love to be with people and help them enjoy the craft, but personally I love me, my paper, and my music! Ahhhh, it’s calming just thinking about it!ReplyCancel

Even though I teach crafting and work along with my students showing them as we go, I work better when creating or preparing by myself. I can talk my way through each step. That also prepares me to “instruct” as I can hear myself as I try to explain each step.of course this provides a lot of amusement for my family when carrying on these little lessons!

I much prefer to craft alone and I get more done that way. I am one who will have an “instant” idea or change the design and find that I don’t have what I need. I won’t be able to move on until I finish that projects. So having all my things at arm’s reach is a necessity for me.ReplyCancel

I try to get my crafty friends in for a day as often as I can. We do the whole day thing with a pot luck lunch. Unfortunately, for me, I seem to get nothing done as I cannot function, creatively, in a group. However, I LOVE the crafty chat and sharing of ideas and that is as good to me as a productive day by myself! I love attending my card clubs but love the socializing more than working on any project and everybody knows that. I’m a ‘Lone Ranger’ crafter. I can focus and concentrate on projects forever if I’m not distracted. I’ve always been like that even in school (h.s. and college). Great minds sometimes have to isolate themselves to be able to create. LOL.ReplyCancel

This is a beautiful card! I have never crafted in a group before…I’m pretty new actually to card making, so haven’t had the chance (and probably won’t as I don’t know anyone who does card making) but if having extra people just visiting us is any indication, I wouldn’t do to well at crafting in a group, cause I find it hard to craft if anyone else is around. My hubby has a friend how visits now and then, and if he’s here, even if they are out messing around in hubbies workshop, I find it next to impossible to concentrate on making a card. So…I’d have to say I’d be much better crafting alone. :-))ReplyCancel

We spend most of the day laughing and sharing great ideas. We have lunch and return to actually finish a project – doesn’t always happen. The time we share is priceless. As far as the question goes…I, too, craft with a group of ladies every month. We usually spend at least 3 hours together. We all do the same project, though, whether it be a set of cards, a scrapbook page or a 3-d project. We all get our project done, but we do spend a lot of time visiting and laughing. A simply elegant card, Becca. I usually craft alone or with only one or two others. When my craft group is getting together, I have to plan ahead and have all parts of my project ready if I want to get anything done. Then I can assemble it and still be social. The only alternative to that is to do something repetitious, like shaping and layering a bunch of flowers, so I can do it without really thinking about it. We always spend a lot of time visiting.ReplyCancel
