Day 9 – 30 Days of Giving

Saving the Written Word

If you’re not familiar with 30 Days of Giving and how you can receive this card,  read about it HERE.  You can check to see if you’ve won a card by looking under the Features menu item and selecting Giveaway Winners.

Good morning sweet friends!  As always thanks for stopping by.  Today I’ll be brief because I want to get the giveaway card up.  Lol, this is just a small dent in the stash, but I’m so glad these cards are going on to good homes, good causes :-)

For today’s comment –  was wondering, how many cards do you make a week?    No shame, not everyone cranks out cards – sometimes I’m a bystander myself.

The card that’s being given away today is shown above.  Just a note – this is a card that has been shown before and there is a possibility that some of the supplies that were used are currently discontinued, no doubt there will be something you can substitute – have a look through my galleries for alternative ideas.  Many things can still be found on the open market, just google and you’ll find that many retailers are still selling.

I tend to spend a lot of time on a card. I might be able to get 3 or 4 done a month but it certainly depends on the time of year.ReplyCancel

  • Sonia StephensonJuly 9, 2015 - 8:59 am

Hi Becca. I love this card, simply stunning :-) I must admit I don’t make cards every week. I don’t have a craft room so have to get all my stash out on the dining table! Sometimes I can make upto about six cards in a week, but then I can also go a couple of weeks without making any. Hugs xxxReplyCancel

  • MelindaJuly 9, 2015 - 9:07 am

Depends on what’s going on in my life. :) Some weeks it’s zero and other weeks three or four. December is usually when I make the most cards in a week.ReplyCancel

  • dmc4042July 9, 2015 - 9:12 am

I make between 3-4 cards a week, more if I have time off.

Sad to say I only manage about 1 card a month – just depends on the season – at Christmas – I have to “crank” them out! Another beautiful card.ReplyCancel

Love making handmade cards to share with family and friends. I have my card making out every day and work on them weekly. I may make none to 4 per week. Whatever my mood is. ;)ReplyCancel

  • JoAnn B.July 9, 2015 - 9:17 am

Love this gorgeous card and that special sentiment about friends.
I make 4 or 5 cards each week and have to keep some on hand to give to church family and friends for birthdays and anniversaries. Love making them.ReplyCancel

I try to make atleast 2 cards a week, just depends on how crazy my days are and how many people drop by! Lol. Love today’s cards, the bows are so amazing! Have a great day dear Becca! I’m loving this 30 days posting! ????ReplyCancel

  • Kyle E.July 9, 2015 - 9:24 am

If I didn’t have to work to support my card-making, I’d be making a card or two a day! The reality is that the number of cards I create varies from one or two per week to one every day for major holidays like Easter and Christmas.ReplyCancel

  • Yo GlennJuly 9, 2015 - 9:25 am

My card making happens in jags. I can go weeks without making any and then I can get in to a groove and crank out 10 to 20 in a single week and then not do any for another few weeks. However, my cards are nothing like yours – your elegant style is so beautiful and the bows are just gorgeous.ReplyCancel

  • Annelie S.July 9, 2015 - 9:27 am

Another beautiful card, Becca. I would say I make about 5 or 6 cards a month depending on number of birthdays, anniversaries, etc.ReplyCancel

I try and make a few cards each week, like to keep cards on hand for any and all occasions. Just finished making and sending out two birthdays, one wedding and two graduation cards in just the last month.
Thank you again for all your beautiful cards that you share with us each day.ReplyCancel

  • Myrtle J in VA USAJuly 9, 2015 - 9:30 am

I don’t make cards on a regular basis. I can go weeks without making one and then make five or six in a few days. I tend to do more 3D items with my manual die cutters and electronic cutters. I love your cards, stamps and dies. I would love to own one of your creations.ReplyCancel

  • KathyJuly 9, 2015 - 9:32 am

My average is 1 card per week. However, I do go in spurts because I need to make so many cards for all of my family and friends; probably a minimum of 12 to a maximum of 28 of each card. Since I make many cards at once, I will first complete the preparation work so all of my pieces are available (die cuts, card frames, ribbons, pearls, flowers, etc.). The assembly begins after the prep work is done. Finally, I package the sets and send out to friends and relatives. Sometimes the set is for a holiday or birthday, many times it is just for fun. Everyone loves to send the beautiful cards to their friends and relatives. It is a ripple of caring messages that started with you Becca!!!!ReplyCancel

  • Melissa BJuly 9, 2015 - 9:32 am

Some weeks none, this week I am working on 80. It is summer break and I don’t have time during the school year, so Christmas cards are one of my summer projects!ReplyCancel

  • Judy InukaiJuly 9, 2015 - 9:33 am

What a wonderful card. Love the layers and the yummy bow. Sadly I have gone for several weeks now without making a card. Then this week I needed a card for a special birthday, so I did actually get it made in time to mail so she should receive it in time for her birthday. Some weeks when I have time I actually get 3-4 cards made.ReplyCancel

  • NancyRJuly 9, 2015 - 9:33 am

    Ooo…pretty in pink! Love it.

It all depends on the week. Some weeks I make nothing at all and some when weeks when I’m in the “zone” I will make a bunch of them. This week I’m working on about 8. I am hoping to start my Christmas cards soon, so that will be about 30-35 probably in the same week.ReplyCancel

  • Becky GreenJuly 9, 2015 - 9:34 am

I DEFINATELY don’t crank out cards Becca! I make them as needed & that isn’t that often, really. The summer months are my down time. In the Fall & Winter months, I “crank out” a card every week, for our daughter who is at college. ;) Can’t let her forget us! LOL

GORGEOUS CARD BECCA!!! LOOOOVE that sentiment !!!! ;) You just have a way with paper!!! ;)ReplyCancel

  • Clare WJuly 9, 2015 - 9:36 am

That’s a tough question! I would say on average at least one a week but in the last week or so, I’ve done 3, another one is waiting its insert, another is in progress early stages though. I try not to have more than 1 or 2 on the go at any one time or they don’t get finished! Another lovely card from you again today.ReplyCancel

  • Maria RodriguezJuly 9, 2015 - 9:36 am

Hello Becca: Well, right now my grandchildren are on summer brake so I’m kind of busy every day but that doesn’t stop me from coming to my “Fortress of Solitude” to recharge my batteries and make cards.
On average I make 2 or 3 a week, I participate in several challenge blogs and I just love it, it’s amazing fun.
I’ve been asked to be a guest stamper a few times and that is just incredible since my blog is about 7 months old, LOL!!
Thank you for the chance to win your gorgeous cards.
    Hugs.
    Maria.ReplyCancel

Hey y’all, easier to say how many a month… sometime I have a lot of birthdays/anniversaries. Some not so much. I have never thought about it before. Most months are about 4/5. But then I have a couple of months that have 10 or more! This card is lovely. Thanks Becca

I don’t make a specific number a week. sometimes I make a special one. then I wait until a bunch of us get together and then make 30 or 40. we try to get together about once a quarter and spend a whole weekend crafting. love the soft colors of this card. the finding on the bow is gorgeous.ReplyCancel

  • Janet SaievaJuly 9, 2015 - 9:39 am

Wow…beautiful card! There have been weeks when I’ve made 15 cards and other weeks that I’ve only made one. It all depends on what’s going on at the moment.ReplyCancel

  • Mary MacJuly 9, 2015 - 9:43 am

Yet another amazing card Becca, laden with pearls, a gorgeous bow and a great sentiment.
Red faced, I admit to making very few cards in a year! Just family occasions really. I don’t have a craft room, just the dining room table on which my bits and pieces (when I have collected them) can lie for weeks. Problem is hubby does not like clutter…….*#@0+^<. Most of my time is spent online admiring other people's work and leaving comments as often as time allows.ReplyCancel

  • JulianaTJuly 9, 2015 - 9:44 am

beautiful card as always! it depends on how many birthdays and anniversaries I have. sometimes I make 4-5 and sometimes none. I wish I could get ahead but I can’t seem to make myself sit down and just make cards just becauseReplyCancel

  • Cindy GJuly 9, 2015 - 9:48 am

I go through phases. While my goal is to spend a couple hours a day in my craft room (since retiring), that is definitely not the case as life and family are my priorities. But I do make at least 2 cards a month for a swap with my sister and her sister-in-law, and then I’ll do birthday, or occasion cards as needed, and sometimes I even have the time and motivation to do a just because card! Those are the most fun!ReplyCancel

  • JudyJuly 9, 2015 - 9:51 am

Unfortunately I have too many men in my family and not enough girls to do the pretty cards that i like to do. Tis life they say.

    Hi Becca,
    Another beautiful card.
Some weeks I will make 6 or more, depends how detailed they are. I meet every week with three other card makes so that get me making a lot , some times we help each other with designs.

  • Mary EstherJuly 9, 2015 - 10:01 am

This week I am making twenty cards for stamp club card swap.
There are many weeks when I don’t get any cards made, sadly.

  • Kristine VencelJuly 9, 2015 - 10:02 am

How many cards in a week? A few weeks ago I made a dozen sympathy cards because those are always needed in an adult community. Then it took me a week to make a spinner card & decorate a picture frame for my great-nephew who turned one, and an engagement congratulations. In one of our classes last week, we made a water card, which I finished. That’s pretty much the last month! Hah! Not much activity for me. Maybe I will be motivated soon!ReplyCancel

  • RaquelJuly 9, 2015 - 10:03 am

Hi Becca first thank you for all you share and for this amazing 30 day where we can comment on our personal thoughts. I have to say that I have not made too many cards lately I have made about 5 in the past weeks. Either thank you-birthday or for a special gift for my first rag quilt for my son and daughter in law. I am working on making a few 3X3 cards to put in a purse bag I made. Its going to be given to my quilt teacher for her hard work in teaching quilting to a beginner. Just something handmade is so much fun and great therapy. Have a good day.ReplyCancel

This is hard to pin down, as I make as I need. I currently have a good stash of certain cards, but if a Sympathy card is needed, I would need to make one. I maybe make 3 cards a month. on the average.

Becca, I’m fairly new to card making though I have a craft room fit for a crafty Queen like yourself. I have only been making cards as the occasion comes along. I’m dying to start a blog, though I have no idea where to start. I feel like if I had a blog it would push me to be making cards at least on a weekly basis, if not more.ReplyCancel

  • Joanne LoweJuly 9, 2015 - 10:39 am

    Hi Becca,

I’m afraid I’m in the occasional cardmaker category, but not wanting to be there. I absolutely LOVE losing myself in the process of making a card, and then seeing how it all turns out in the end too. I’d like to make a minimum of a card a week, that’s my goal–I live with severe health issues, so that isn’t always possible, but it’s a goal. My other crafting-type goals–to start a blog, and I’d love to start a service where card-makers would send a package of cards tailored to missionary families, especially those living in remote areas and/or where buying cards in English would be difficult. That way for birthdays and other occasions, there would be special, handmade cards for each family member to receive from their family, etc. I think that making cards for troops is EXCEPTIONAl, love it! I was just thinking it would also be amazing if we made handmade cards for God’s soldiers who go out and minister in faraway places in His name. Someday…

Blessings, I love this friendship card! You can never have too many of those to send out… :)

some times if I have my mojo on I will just get in the mode and make 4 or more cards a week or I scrapbook; special occasions or my grand daughter’s life. It also depends on whats going on in life as to how much I get done. It’s my relax time and clear my head time.ReplyCancel

  • Cathie WearyJuly 9, 2015 - 10:44 am

Hi Becca, another beautiful card for us today. My card making depends on the month and also my health and schedule. I am trying to get a head start on busy months so am working on November/December birthdays at the moment so I can start on Christmas cards early this year. I have found that sometimes when I have a design that I love, I make 2 or 3 of that design if there won’t be any crossovers with the recipients. This has helped a great deal as I like to take my time in designing and try to make it specific to the person receiving it.ReplyCancel

  • Christine Harrop Oxfordshire UKJuly 9, 2015 - 11:04 am

Wonderful sentiment on today’s card Becca. I spent some time in my craft room every day since I retired. However, not always making a card. Sometimes it’s practicing techniques etc. I do try to make two or three a week. Sometimes if there are lots of birthdays, anniversaries etc it is more. Unfortunately life does tend to get in the way at times, such as right at this moment, and it is fewer. I tend to make my Christmas cards throughout the year so I don’t have a mad flurry and panic when I realise how close it is! Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,

It depends on the week as to how many cards I make. I am still working full time so that can limit my crafting time. Most weeks I make one or two cards but once a month I make 6 cards for a local card swap group. No matter how many I make, it is always fun and relaxingReplyCancel

  • Colleen HowellJuly 9, 2015 - 11:10 am

It is different every week, I may make none, 1 or a lot it depends on what dates are coming up or the holiday. I also make cards for my family or friends and they buy them from me because they would rather have a handmade card than a bought one. So when they call and say I need this I make them then and pass along. Your winner page is not showing past the 6th I am wondering if I am having a problem with the site?ReplyCancel

I tend to have “sessions” when I make lots of cards sometimes up to three months ahead. I go away a lot and I make sure that I have all my greetings cards done well before I leave and make the cards needed for a few weeks after I get back. My dedicated craft room is so crammed with materials and tools that there’s no room for me to sit in there to work, so I take over the dining room for about two weeks at a time and we eat in our kitchen/diner. I have a very accommodating and patient husband!!

    Hi Becca!
I am always amazed how how gorgeous you laying is! I can not seem to get the knack for it.
I would LOVE if you did a “how to” VIDEO series on your thought process and how you come up with not only your layer choices but also your color choices. I notice that you do a lot of monochromatic choices. Yours are jaw dropping gorgeous and mine…well…not so much!

I was forced to return to the work force after 19.5 years of being a homemaker. (health insurance premiums when through the roof and consume 90% of our entire household expenses.) It has been EXTREMELY hard on me especially emotionally b/c I have been thrown into a technology world where I don’t belong. ANYHOW, I unfortunately average approx. .0001 cards a week. Lack of time is a factor and I do not have a craft room so I have to work on my dining table, coffee table or in most cases on the floor in my living room.

    Blessings,
    ValerieReplyCancel

I’m never consistent, some weeks I don’t do a single card other weeks I may do a lot, I estimate that since the New Year I have probably done over two hundred cards. One of the reasons why so many? I have made invitations and thankyou cards for golden wedding anniversary party. It’s been a busy year for me so far.ReplyCancel

Still having so much fun answering these questions. During my busy seasons – summer, fall, early winter, I try to make one new design a week (16-24 of each), fill in what is low, so that I have 16 of each, and try – doesn’t always happen – to make a holiday design a week – 16 – 24 of each. Since I carry a pretty full line of cards, this is a hectic time! I also fill any special orders, make any family cards I need, etc. At the end of my season, I donate cards and supplies to organizations that can use them, put the rest of my inventory away to add to over the winter and get ready for Easter and Mother’s Day and the start of a new season!

Of course, when you break an ankle on the 3rd of July and need surgery, it sort of messes with the “plans”, so here we are. Having days of gratitude and thanksgiving. Thanks, Becca :)ReplyCancel

I usually only make cards as I need them. Usually for my hubby’s family and a handful of my neighbors. I could use a “friend” card like this. Always beautiful! I probably average 2 or 3 cards a month. Each one takes me quite a bit of time. I mainly acknowledge family birthdays with a card creation and occasionally special wedding anniversaries. I have tried in the past to sit down to make cards just to have on hand, and am not very successful. I seem to need to know who the card is going to in order to get a design that is pleasing to me when I am done. My cards are truly made for that individual.ReplyCancel

Honestly, if I complete two cards a week then that’s a major accomplishment for me. Of course there are always exceptions like a funeral or ‘missing you’ card. Hi Becca, Another stunning card, loving the colours and the embellishment and that gorgeous bow.
To be honest I only make cards for my own family for Birthdays, Anniversaries, Births etc, so it depends on when these fall, this month I have three to make and I am half way through, it takes me a long time to ‘decide’ what to create, and even then, sometimes it doesn’t turn out how I would like, so then I have to start again. My second one this month was like that, it it for my Granddaughter’s 30th Birthday, I got three quarters the way through it and decided that I didn’t like it, so I have started again, then when I have finished that one, I have an 18th card to make for my youngest Granddaughter. I do tend to make more cards in the Winter, in the Summer I tend to do lots of gardening.
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

I don’t have any set number of cards to make each month. The number I make depends on how many birthdays, wedding anniversaries, new baby, thinking of you, thank you, get well and sympathy occassions that come up that I want to acknowledge. This summer has been a busy one for me. In June, I made twenty-one cards and sent out. In July, so far, I have made and sent out seven birthday cards, two wedding anniversary cards, one thank you card, three new baby and two get well cards. Your cards inspire me so please keep them coming! I need all the help I can get. I especially liked yesterday’s “day 8” card. It’s looks so “Becca”.ReplyCancel

Like many of those who commented, my card making runs hot and cold. Sometimes I make cards for particular people but I have had several people ask me if I have cards to sell so I have been working on an inventory. On average, I make about 5 cards per week. Not prolific – but consistent.

All your cards are so gorgeous.
I used to make at least 1 card a day but now I work in fits and starts. As I lead a class, I always have to make at least 2 samples a week on top of the cards I make for family and friends. The prospect of a charity fundraiser 3 weeks ago resulted in a frenzy of cardmaking and I produced 24 in 2 days. Christmas means I need to make several hundred at a time so that I have packs of 5, 6, 10 and 12 to sell for fundraising.

Hmm I make a few cards in a week. I go to a group of ladies and we share card making. There are 4 of us. We each make a card and take turns to show and make each others cards up. So that is 4. But I have just started teaching a ladies in the village where I live how to make cards, and she has 3 kits to make with my help and 1 kit to take home. So that makes another 4, as you need a tactile sample to them to see.
I then make other special cards depending on the time of year.
So at a minimum it would have to be 8 cards.
I just love your cards Becca. And have followed your blog for years and it always causes me to sigh and tugs at my heart when I see your cards and other items you make.

I love today’s card Becca, especially the sentiment, it speaks from the heart. I make cards as needed, so I look at my calendar and it will tell me whose birthday or anniversary is coming up and I stamp accordingly. If I really like a card that I’ve just made, I get all excited and can’t wait to replicate it, so I usually start another card as soon as that one is completed. I always have the greatest of intentions to send people birthday cards, anniversary cards, etc. but somehow I never get my act together early enough to get cards made (because I’d also have to clear off my desk, and that would take a fair bit of time!) ‘sigh’

However, I did make one of your cards for one friend of mine who faithfully makes cards for my husband and I, and I decided I HAD to make the card no matter what! It took me a very long time to make, because I had to keep watching/re-watching your video to know what to do next, but I did get it finished and she got it on her actual birthday.

I then made another card for a relative and she got it on time too – only problem was I started making it for their anniversary, but didn’t get it finished, so her birthday was only a little while later, so she got it then, and she didn’t know any difference, and they were thrilled with the card. Hello Becca. I make two or three cards a week usually unless I take a class, then I make more. I love the sentiment of friendship on today’s card. Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel

Depends on the week! Lol Normally, not many and not consistently. Sometimes I see something I want to try out. Last week, however, I made 40 birthday party invitations. Although a bit stressed, I thoroughly enjoyed it!ReplyCancel

The number of cards I make in a week varies. It depends on what I need. I make all of the cards I send and occasionally sell a few. Some weeks I may be too busy to make any. Other times I may make half a dozen in one day. One year I tried to make a card every day for a year. I only got 302 done but I felt pretty good about that since I never make anything simple or quick.ReplyCancel

Beautiful card Becca. On average maybe two cards a week. Would make more if I had more free time. xReplyCancel

I love this card and its beautiful pink bow! I’m sorry to have to admit that I haven’t been able to create cards in six months. On Jan. 6, 2015, I fell in the shower while hospitalized for pneumonia. I fractured my pelvis in three places plus I broke my shoulder. After the broken bones healed, we discovered I had more damage than the fractures. On June 4, 2015, I had surgery to repair my shoulder so now i have another two months of recovery before I will be using my arm normally. It will be about 9 months with physical therapy and no crafting. I really miss being creative. We also recently discovered that I damaged nerves in my back. As a result, I’m using a wheelchair. Short of God’s intervention, and I believe that can and does happen, I will be using the wheelchair to craft as we wait to see if the nerves recover. I should know in another year whether the damage is permanent. While this has been extremely painful and emotionally difficult, it is blogs like yours that keep me inspired and helps me hang onto the hope that i will craft cards again.ReplyCancel

Per week? Right now I’m more like per month :) I try to make 2 cards each time I get a chance but often I’m just creating one needed for a friend at the last minute or spending an afternoon making several. One trick I have been using lately is to cut two of everything so have two similar cards when done. Thanks for sharing. I’m enjoying these daily reflections.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
This is a beautiful card. There are some weeks when I am very motivated and have extra time and I may make 10 cards then other weeks no time and no cards. I do love to create and no one is better at it than you.
    God bless,

I make bits and pieces of cards during the week, but I probably only make a couple cards a month. I mainly like to putter in my studio and try things from time to time. I don’t always have the time with my family and everything else on my schedule right now to just sit and make a card. :-)ReplyCancel

I do not do many cards during the year… maybe 0 to 1 a week.. until it’s time to start making Christmas cards.. then i make approximately 50. Or if i am making some wedding invitations or party invitations of some type.ReplyCancel

Pretty card, gorgeous bow. I like to donate one evening per week to card making….so I make about 12 cards in a week. Gove or take one or two.ReplyCancel

I probably average at least one per week – birthdays, weddings, thanks, graduations, sympathy. Major holidays other than Christmas about 15 each – Valentines, St. Pat.’s, Easter, Halloween & Thanksgiving. For Christmas I send out 30-40 cards with a form letter and at least a personal note added to about 1/3 of those, plus I make next year calendars for about 25 lady friends for Christmas gifts.ReplyCancel

Call me old fashion, but I still do a lot the old fashion way. I cook regular meals not take out, I still bake homemade instead of buying from bakery, I sew and love to design window dressing, bedding etc., and even though we have all have cell phones, I have a land line with several hand sets throughout the house so I don’t have to carry my cell with me from room to room (Have a fairly large home and could not hear the phone if I did not have several hand sets. I still prefer to take my pictures with an SLR which gives me better quality pics then any cell phone or i-pad and although I store and work with them on my computer and back them up, I also always send them out to get a hard copy made as well. Like to make homemade cards instead of store bought. And although I have and use my dishwasher, I still believe in washing my dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. Like I have always said to my kids, their isn’t a little guy that comes out in the washing cycle to scrub the pots and pans and remove the food residue from the dishes. Besides those food particles have to go somewhere, and just get trapped and eventually clog your the dishwasher drain. Yuck. But I think it is a great way to sterilize and dry your dishes.ReplyCancel

I would be on top of the world if I could just craft all day. But that’s just not possible. The no of cards I make depend on the need for it- if I want to give a set of cards as a gift I make at least 5 in a day. If I’m crafting for fun its one or none. Problem is I craft the old fashioned way using a cutting knife, scissors, stack of newspapers(cutting mat)& knitting needle(bone folder)ReplyCancel

I tend to make 6 cards of the same thing, when I do make them. I belong to a few groups and the ladies just love recieving them. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas, simply beautiful.ReplyCancel

Love this! I really need to get this sentiment – it’s perfect! I don’t make cards every week, even though I should. I tend to make them when I’m under pressure and have an occasion that I need one.ReplyCancel

Greetings Becca! Crafting is not a lost art in my opinion, however, with many working two jobs to survive in this present economy there is little time and money for the luxury of crafting. The card is awesome as usual and I have a request. Your bows are beautiful and I would like to learn to make bows but just feel like I am all thumbs in making mine. Thank you for blessing us with inspiration for making our cards.ReplyCancel

I try to find time to visit blogs and also make at least one or two cards a week. I make it usually, but not always. I love doing it, and usually find some way to send the cards along to someone else to enjoy!ReplyCancel
