When I Saw This

Card making ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - When I Saw This and Spellbinders Diamond Floral - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Hi there friends!  I had a little vacation but I’ve been so busy!  Exciting busy.  It was a welcome change of pace to get outside – where did the summer go?  I’ve been hunkered down working all year and it felt great to get out and feel the sunshine on my face.  I’m not done yet though, I have company coming in a week or two and have to get some things taken care of in my house – a little cleaning, a little sewing, a little decorating :-)   Speaking of decorating, sometimes all it takes is pulling out one die and viola, a card idea pops into my head.  That’s what happened when I pulled out this lovely die – Spellbinders Diamond Floral and paired it with Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG.  I wondered what it would look like as a frame and I have to admit that after it was stencilled, I wondered how I hadn’t used it before.  With mint green and powdery shades of a peachy pink, I simply colored the leaves and flowers with a sponge dauber, then reset the die and stencilled the leaves with a darker green.  There’s a lot going on so I kept the embellishment simple.  Then, the perfect sentiment from Quietfire Design – I had nothing like this in my stash and then I realized how wonderful this is when I’m sending a card and enclosing pictures or an article – it’s called When I Saw This.  We do this on our smart phones all the time – forward a picture or a joke.  Now we can do it in our letter writing :-)

Have you tried stenciling through your dies yet?  It’s such a lovely way to get a subdued color without having to be an ‘expert’ colorist.  Simply dab through the opening – and seriously, it doesn’t have to be perfect :-)

This is lovely. Just as I was reading this blog and looking at the photos, I was asking “how do I do this stencil”. Then the next sentence, you told me. Thank you for sharing. I will try this technique. I hope I have this die. It is stunning. Enjoy the sunshine!ReplyCancel

Lovely card as usual, Becca. Question: This is a square card and how does it meet requirements at your post office. I love square cards but here P.O. adds another 22¢ plus another 22¢ for hand stamping. My crafting friends are in a tizzy as I am. The square card I sent yesterday cost me 71¢ and a 5 x 7 with the same rules cost me 91¢. Anyone feeling frustrated and have any suggestions with Christmas and Halloween coming up? I love your cards Becca and have lots of die cuts ordered from your beautiful work but sure takes the love away from creating these for special people. ReplyCancel

Becca: It is always good to feel the sun rays on our skin and see the sky for the beauty it holds, for this is where inspiration comes from. Your creations are wonderful and I wait daily to what is new, but remember all work and no play makes us forget there is life over the horizon. Enjoy your life and God will take care of the rest.

    Hi Becca

You always make your cards look so effortless and elegant.
There was a Royal Mail commercial on TV some time ago, advertising and encouraging sending stuff to ppl in the post (the ‘old-fashioned’ way)… Someone would do just that, pop something in the post to a love one and wrote on the postcard or notelet ‘saw this and thought of you’… Of course the ‘thing’ being sent was something quite funny/sarcastic (British sense of humour) – an item or article that linked to a funny clip shown about the recipient. I used it once on my cousin who is 2 days short of 2 years older than me… I played on her age and sent a leaflet on something to do with anti-aircraft creams lol… Nice to see the words made into a beautiful stamp.
