Tales of a Super Shopper – Bargain Alert

Hi there blog friends!!  I wanted to give you a little heads up on some super shopping I did this week that allowed me to stock up on some things but at the same time get them at a discounted price that is not normally available.   I would never have put this combination together, but once I was in the store, it all clicked and I thought – aha!, time to stock up.  This week Hobby Lobby is selling their crafting adhesives, all brands, for 40% off.  This week Michaels is letting you take 25% off your entire purchase, including sale items.  Lucky me, we have both Hobby Lobby and Michaels where I live and our Michaels will price match with Hobby Lobby.  So, I went and stocked up on all the adhesives I use – glue dots, Scotch ATG gun tape, Zip Dry, 3M Foam Tape, etc.  Basically once I showed the Michaels cashier my Hobby Lobby Flyer – she took 40% off each of my adhesives then I gave her my Michaels coupon that took 25% off of everything but clearance.  To give you an example, their Scotch ATG refills are two in a box for $5.99 with 40% discount I’m down to $3.59 with 25% discount I’m down to $2.69, which made those refills for my ATG gun $1.35 each.  Woo hoo!!  I can’t get them anywhere in the world for that price!!    So this runs all week . . . just sayin’ :-)

I’m nursing a little migraine today, but if Aleve has it’s way, I’ll be back in the saddle later on!!  Otherwise, I’m not foolin’ ya . . . tomorrow, April 1st and April Fools Day,  is Our Daily Bread Designs new release and blog hop!!

  • Marge (mer)March 31, 2011 - 11:07 am

WOW, you’re a lucky girl as well as a frugal shopper — my frustration here with Michael’s is that the policies of what coupons they’ll take & how many, etc. varies from store to store, even if they’re literally 2-3 miles apart — not at all FAIR to shoppers!!! I’ve NEVER heard they’d price match ever before — guess I’ll have to make the even more angry by asking for that next trip — LOL!!!ReplyCancel

  • alsmouseMarch 31, 2011 - 11:16 am

I too, would not have done the colors you did, but it looks perfect. Did you use a doily or sewing lace for the dainty trim?

Ok, Michaels is my next shopping stop. We don’t have a Hobby Lobby here but last week when hubby and I were on our way back home from Gainsville, we poked around in Ocala and I just SCREAMED when I saw the Hobby Lobby store at the south-most exit! Hubby almost ran off the road. We were there for awhile, as it was my first experience being in a Hobby Lobby. Too bad it is 2 hours away!!! :( But then again, maybe that’s a good thing…ReplyCancel

Lucky lady–for 2 reasons: first, having both a Michael’s & HobLob where you live and secondly for the great deal you got on your shopping excursion. Hope the Aleve has kicked in.ReplyCancel

Wow… and I was going to skip Hobby Lobby and Michaels this week because I splurged so much at Joann’s last Friday! LOL!! Joanns had the same sort of deal… a coupon for 25% off the total order… sale stuff included so I filled my cart with all kinds of goodies. I had just about given up on Joann’s and had not been in there in a long time so they actually had quite a few things that were new to me that I just had to have! LOL!! Not to mention, their rubber stamps, punches and stamping accessories were all on sale for 40% off so with the additional 25% off it was wonderful! Among other things I got Memento stamp pads and markers for super prices.

Don’t know if hubby will be OK with another shopping splurge right now, though! LOL!!! I always forget about the matching price thing though… so thanks for reminding me!!!!ReplyCancel

  • terriavidreaderMarch 31, 2011 - 11:25 am

Thanks Becca, I never knew this. They don’t advertise it locally that they’ll match. And of course, when I asked, they do not honor hobby lobby coupons. But this week’s special on adhesives is a great deal!ReplyCancel

Fantastic bargains Becca! I have to drive 30 mins. to get to the closest Michael’s, which I don’t consider bad and I have no idea where the closest Hobby Lobby is, I’ve never been into one. It looks like you used embroidery hoops around your design on today’s card, love it!ReplyCancel

wow, i love the card it is so beautiful. love the dainty lace – it looks like delicate flowers, too. i’m like you, when i get a bargain i just have to share it with everyone else. they just opened up a hobby lobby about six months ago here in the central valley of calif. but it is about an hour and a half from me whereas the michael’s and joanne’s is only 45 min. i’ll have to see if michael’s will honor the hobby lobby coupon.ReplyCancel

  • DeniceMarch 31, 2011 - 11:44 am

I did the same thing with the Micheals and JoAnnes. Sure is great to be able to use those coupons. It makes scrapbooking , crafting and card making more affordable. Happy Shopping…..ReplyCancel

  • Anita KehnMarch 31, 2011 - 11:47 am

We have Hobby Lobby an hour away but no Michaels or Joanns anywhere close. I do most shopping online. While we’re on the subject of frugal shopping is there anyplace to get Spellbinders at a discount? Hobby Lobby has a very limited selection and I am needing the Grand Nestabalities but at $50. a whack I can’t afford to get many and I have to go slow. Would like to know if anyone has information about this. Thanks for all the tips, tutorials, ideas etc. Becca. This is a very helpful blog.ReplyCancel

  • Karen WeddingMarch 31, 2011 - 12:05 pm

I wish our Michaels would match percentages off, but they say they can’t honor the percentages, just the exact prices. But, it’s always worth a try. I know if you have the right cashier, you can mention you forgot your coupon and she will pull one out of her pocket and ring it up. Then again, you can get the hard-nosed ones that won’t budge. I hope I can get the same great deal. Hope you’re feeling better. I get migraines and wouldn’t wish them on anyone.ReplyCancel

Love that card! By the way, I’m a migraine girl and have been since 1968.
Used to take real expensive medicine but it got TOO expensive so had to quit that. One of the things my doctor suggested was Excedrin Migraine and a strong cup of coffee. One of the things that migraine medicine has in it is CAFFINE. I’m doing fine with my new treatment. Just thought you might want to give that a try so you can continue to create those beautiful cards.
    Thanks for sharing.

  • BernieMarch 31, 2011 - 12:33 pm

That is stunning. Not your usual but stunning none the less.

Don’t those % off entire purchase coupons just make you giddy!!! I couldn’t afford this hobby if it wasn’t for coupons, even then I have to be very careful. I blew my entire crafting budget for a while with my Joann’s 25% off entire purchase coupon on Friday. Everything I got was marked 40% off. I’m still trying to figure out where do I put all my new treasures and which to use first. What a wonderful dilemma!
I do hope you feel better. Migraines are no fun. Although we all eagerly look forward to your posts I hope you realize everyone of us would totally understand if you didn’t post when you aren’t feeling well. Rest up and feel better.

Thanks for the heads-up shopping! I didn’t know Michaels matched HL. I don’t shop Michaels much because they have no reciprocity with Joanne’s or ACMoore and I mainly shop ACMoore. It’s also not on my shopping Route 31 corridor and requires a longer trip, but this would be worth it, for sure. Should call and be sure they honor HL here as well as where you are.ReplyCancel

For Anita, looking for Spellbinders, HallmarkScrapbook online has greatly reduced prices. I’m sure there are others if you take the time to Google Spellbinders and check the sites out. Good luck.

For Anita: HALLMARKSCRAPBOOK has greatly reduced prices for Spellbinders. Try Googling Spellbinders and you may come up with some others. Amazon.com is worth checking now and then for supplies too. Good luck.ReplyCancel

For Anita, I just bought a bunch of spellbinders stuff on eBay (hope that’s okay to mention) Got new white plates from one store, and Labels 14 and 16 from another, great prices and great shipping to Canada, where NO ONE sells Spellbinders except a couple of specialty scrapbook stores who charge through the nose. And to Debra K, whose screamed so loud when she saw a Hobby Lobby at a highway exit — thanks, that made my day!

Question for all of you, how do you tie one of Becca’s wonderful bows ONTO a ribbon that is running vertically down a card? I tied beautiful peg bows thanks to Becca’s video, but can’t for the life of me figure out how to get them onto a ribbon, other than pulling a section of ribbon tight with thread, knotting it, then gluing the bow on top. It works but I know it’s not right :)ReplyCancel

I printed my coupons for both stores mentioned and headed 100 miles to shop for adhesives not knowing all the sale items. Micheal’s was first and they moved their adhesives across from Martha.S. items and still could not find any super tacky tape. Did use my coupon there and off to Hobby Lobby. Read their ad and saw 40 % off and headed back there right away to find the super tape and took everyone they had in the 1/4 inch. Really didn’t want to take it all but I have to go such a distance for anything these days so had too. So I still had my 40% off and what did they have? Spellbinders Excalibur which the gal at the checkout said I can use the coupon for it. This is now in may craft room and I am waiting for the stores to start carrying them. I only know of Hobby Lobby to carrying Spellbinders.
Hope you are feeling better. JackieReplyCancel
