Saving Grace (long) and Pushing Daisies

I don’t share much information about myself and I guess it’s because I’m naturally long winded and I typically have a lot to say about whatever I’ve created for the day.  As I reflected on life, crafting and blogging, I wanted to share some information with you.  If it’s TMI then I trust you to set it aside and if it helps you to know where I am in my crafting, healing and faith then perhaps I’ve made the right choice in sharing.

Years ago my husband became ill and I found myself literally tethered to home as a caregiver.  I was going crazy for something to do to keep me busy and out of the throes of worry; Amazing Paper Grace was born and literally rescued me from despair.   Well, to the rescue again . . .

In mid-November, we had to go to San Antonio for a week long check up for hubby.  They wanted to immediately do a Bone Marrow Transplant so we’ve been in San Antonio until three days ago.   Through Thanksgiving, my anniversary, Christmas, Blog Hops and crazy stuff with the hosting company for my blog, I crafted from a bedroom in our RV.  Yes, it can be done!

Hubby had a rough, rough time and ended up in the hospital for almost the entire month of December.   Even though I was alone in our RV, I was never alone and spent hours in prayer.  I can’t tell you how grateful I was to have a blog to keep me busy and thinking positive thoughts.

I specifically want you to know that my design teams pulled out all the stops and got behind me in unwavering support.  It gives me such pleasure to know that I work with good, compassionate people that have a “family first” attitude.  Thanks so much to Michelle Rodgers with Stamper’s Dream, Diana Crick with Scor-Pal/Magnolia-licious, All the folks at Spellbinders, Kelley Holland at Our Daily Bread Designs, Suzanne Cannon at Quietfire Design, Jan Marie Caruso at Flourishes, and Kellie Fortin at JustRite.  Please know that I support them because I love their products and the character they infuse in their companies.

As my family was reunited this week, I rejoice.  It’s all good now, my Hubby is on the mend and hopefully life will return to normal soon (although I have not unpacked yet, looked through mail or listened to messages on the answering machine)!   My life is so blessed and it’s so, so good to be home.  I’m inspired to kick off a new year at Amazing Paper Grace.

I have some tutorials in the works that I just could not find a way to share while I was away (I really didn’t have that much stuff with me and we never thought we’d be away so long).  Before the month of January is over I’ll be sharing a Best of 2009 Post.  I hope you’ll bear with me as I get reacquainted with my studio and caught up on commitments!  Stay tuned, 2010 is going to be a spectacular year!!

Okay, I do have a project to share, it’s springy and optmistic.  This is a seed packet organizer I made earlier in the year that I can share now.  It was done for the Dirty Girls Fan Club Gallery and the theme was to make something based on a favorite TV Show – hence, Pushing Daisies.

Well I hope to be pushing daisies into a garden as soon as it gets warm this year.
My organizer was made using the bright springy line of Imaginesce Twitterpated papers.

Using two hard canvas panels and glue backed fabric binding I created a book with an accordian inside spine.  On the spine I mounted back to back packets for the seeds and a tie closure.

Project List::
Stamps:  Stampendous Alphabet
Paper:  Imaginesce Twitterpated
Ink:  Black Brilliance
Accessories:  Ribbon, Spellbinders™ Daisy Heads, Fiskars Apron Lace Border Punch, Round Punch, Velcro

Thanks for stopping by.  My next projects will be short and sweet :-)

I love your organizer! You have created a beautiful project! I too am looking forward to Spring and all the green and growing things! :<)

I am keeping you and your family in my prayers and hope that your husband is now feeling better and that the transplant was successful and he will continue to feel better and regain his good heath.

I can identify with your husband as years ago I was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia and there were many difficult years. I was not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant and they were relatively new at that time but I survived. I send my good wishes to your husband and pray that his trials are at an end and that now all good things will be coming to you both and your family!

    You take care.

Wow! What a traumatic time you have had over these last weeks – and never a hint from you of the difficulties you and your husband were going through as you raised our spirits with your beautiful creations! What amazing grace you shared with us.

I am sending hugs to you and your family and adding prayers to all those raised for you and your husband.

Becca, thank you for sharing a bit of you. I experienced the life of caring for a very sick husband. Happily he is doing wonderfully well and he now have 4 years of health on his side. Paper crafting was my therapy through it all and friends were my strength. Please know we care so much about you and are so happy that you are now home and your honey is in recovery mode. I wondered many times how you had the time to create such wonderful stuff. Now I wonder not how you had the time but how you have ability to create such wonderful stuff knowing the stress you have been through. Let me tell you a story. Years ago my husband was in the hospital for 7 straight months then he was very ill for 10 long years. I wish I had something like cardmaking years ago to occupy my mind but that was a lifetime ago. My husband has since passed and now it helps me deal with stress in my life. A caregiver is a special person but I already knew you were special. The Lord has his hands on you and your creation. He guides you in everything you do. I sit in wonder and think how does she doe such wonderful stuff but it is God touch in you. I will pray for your husband…but I will esp pray for you…the caregiver. God Bless you today and everyday.ReplyCancel

God is so good, the source of all that is good — which includes your wonderful gifts and the medical advances and personnel that helped your hubby–, and the the Rock/ support during troubling times and hurts . He never promised life would be easy but rather that He would be with us in the midst of all that goes on in our lives to support and care for us. What you’ve shared confirms His commitment to you and your family and His goodness. Thank you for sharing so we can see all this and offer prayerful support and praise. Angel of Creativity,

I happened upon this site (accidently?) On January 1st of this year.
Because I can become a bit obsessive when I find something new, I, over the course of 10 days, I went through the entire archive and just marveled at all you have done and accomplished in the crafting world. I must admit I was somewhat envious that you were able to do something you love full time. Now that I see that you are a real person with real challenges, I am even more respectful of you and what you do. There is nothing better than being able to inspire…….Knowing that “All things work together for good, etc.,” my sister, I am a witness that you are truly, “Called according to His purpose.” Press on!ReplyCancel

Becca, I’m relieved that your DH is able to get all the medical attention he needs. A successful bone marrow transplant is great news! I’m sure you already know that it doesn’t end there and that your DH’s immune system will be really weak especially in the first few months. He will be prone to a lot of infections and viruses (especially the CMV virus). So please take extra extra care and try not to expose him at all especially to places with lots of people. If anybody you know who wants to visit has a cold or sniffing at least, don’t let that person get in contact with your DH.

Again, thank you for inspiring us with your creations, and now that we know more where all these beautiful work is emanating from, it inspires me more.

Very proud of you, but you do what you have to do.
    Prayer helps so very much.

Having Your RV Home with you was much better than being holed up in a Motel. I know about RV homes my late DH and I full timed 7 1/2 years in a 5th wheel. I learned to stamp at and Escapees show in 95.
Those were wonderful years. I even had a hip replacement during that time. I now live in a Parkmodel with a large Crap room. LOL Needs cleaning.

    Becca,
Just had to write you and let you now how much I love your cards, and when I check my email, yours is the first I read. My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in May 2007, and we are headed for Little Rock, AR next week for another week of testing. They want him to have a SCT but he has decided against a SCT because of his physicial condition and age (65).
I am a really new card crafter, this obsession started when our NETN MM support group sold cards this past summer to raise funds for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and the International Myeloma Foundation. Like you, I have found that it has become my way of staying sane. I try my best not to worry about the future, as I know this is all in God’s hands, but some days get really hard. Being a caregiver is rewarding but still very hard. So grateful that you have shared your talent and challenges with all of us. You and your family will certainly be in my prayers.

your faith in Christ is an inspiration to us all. I follow your blog faithfully and am constantly amazed at the beautiful things you create. I am in awe! Prayers go out to you, I have been in a similar situation with my father and husband being life threatened at the same time and out of town. But after the storm passes you realize God was with you the entire journey and you are a little more aware of your strengths. We don’t learn much in the good times but the difficult times are a growing place.

Becca, you are a true source of inspiration to me and I am very regretful that I do not comment as often as I should — your work TRULY is amazing. As are you — I wish you, your husband, and your whole family lots of love and healing as you get back to normal at home. It’s hard to believe that you were able to continue creating and blogging during this tough period! Again, it just goes to show how amazing you are!

And today’s project – so beautiful and cheery! It just so happens that I just made a notebook with that same paper lately, too. Great name also — I watched Pushing Daisies too!ReplyCancel

    Dear Becca –

Your husband is a very lucky man to have a wife as devoted and loving as you. I am so glad he is on the mend. I don’t think you shared TMI, sometimes it makes one feel better to express oneself. You are an inspiration to many of us out there and I know I feel privileged that you felt comfortable enough to share something personal with us.

    God Bless

My heart goes out to you, Becca. I saw my mother be a caregiver to her mother so I can more than appreciate the stress. Life never affects just one – it touches us all. Having recently been placed on disability (and still fighting gov’t and other stuff) I am ever so grateful to have my crafts as my diversion. It doesn’t always work- as you well know- but it is an integral part of our sanity.
I am relieved to hear your hubby (the one who made that darling card last year!) is on the mend and I send hugs & kisses to you both.

Bless Your Heart!!! I had no idea you were going thru so much. I don’t know how you did it.

My hubby wants to travel the US when he retires, in an RV. My thought was, could I leave my paper that long. LOL So it’s nice to know that paper crafting can be done in an RV.

I got into cardmaking and scrapbooking in 2006. Our first grandbaby was born in June and my hubby was deployed to Iraq in Aug of that year. I am hooked and odn’t think I could ever leave it behind fo any length of time. I found your blog last Jan. Was hooked after seeing 2 or 3 of your cards. Now I subscribe.

    Dear Becca!

I read your message with tears in my eyes. Thank you for trusting us with your very personal story.
God is so faithful. He is so close to us in those very dark times. I pray for your husband to continue to get stronger each day and that our darling Lord continues to strengthen you as you both go through this together. I emphasis the word THROUGH.
2010 will be a wonderful year for you both as it will be for my DH and me. We too have gone through a year of chemo and radiation and now see that light at the end of the tunnel.
Your creations have truly inspired me and I thank you for your wonderful talent. You are truly amazing with all your wonderful ideas. I love your new project and think it would be a wonderful gift for a gardener…male or female.

Take care dear Becca and know that so many are praying for you and hubby.

Becca a seed journal is not by accident. So many times God uses you even when you do not know that is what he is doing. You have planted so many seeds in the past and present and there will be so many more for the future. As these seeds are put into the ground, they will begin to rot and then burst open with life. This is what you do for others on a daily basis.

I see a lot of beautiful work out there, but I see an annointing to everything you put your hands too. I too turned to crafting during my time of need. I was paralyzed in a car accident 5 yrs ago. My husband is my caretaker. However, I have come to realize I may not enjoy my circumstances at the time but God trust me to be strong enough to go through it. That means he has alot more trust in me than I have in myself. He has trusted you with so much, caring for your husband and everyone you minister too daily. You are so blessed to have a great team of armour bearers that you can trust to take over when you cannot be there.

I pray for healing, provision, and many many blessing’s for you and as your seeds burst forth with life so will healing in your house hold. You are in our prayers.ReplyCancel

Although that project is adorable and all, I have to say Becca that you yourself sharing what all you’ve been through with your husband is incredible. It shows that you love him, you love HIM, and you love what you do for us! Sure hope your hubby continues to do great…we’re in the Dallas area and at the V.A. many times a month, and I know that if I had to be there every day for my own husband, I would! I’d even find a way to take my crafting with me too! (which I do anyway in a small suitcase!!).
You’re in our prayers here too, and please keep us updated as to how your husband is doing. It’s been so nice to see your blog and get to know you over the past few months. You’ve inspired me to get out my stuff and make some cards, and I even just got a HUGE order of stamps from Our Daily Bread. Love those stamps! But it’s because YOU shared your beautiful cards with US that made me want to craft again after being sick a lot of the past year.
Thanks for sharing your passions with us. Your love for God, your love for your husband, and your love for crafting. You are truly blessed!!

I can’t tell you how much you have blessed me with the beauty of your creations. Visiting with you almost daily, though I don’t often leave comments (sorry, life is so busy), you have so inspired me to grow in my craft. Thank you so much for allowing God to pour Himself through your life, through your family, and through your talent. May you find Him more than enough in the coming year.

I understand about stamping as therapy or even salvation of one’s sanity during a time like this. I began stamping when I took family medical leave from work and became a primary caregiver to my mother when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It was a wonderful and terrible time – wonderful to spend every last moment with her, literally, and terrible because the remaining time was so short and, for her, incredibly painful. Stamping and the creative outlet it provided gave me such relief from all the terrible pressures. God bless you and your family, LynneReplyCancel

Wow. I had no idea your hubby was sick, thank the Lord he is doing better now. I will say a prayer for him to keep improving. I can’t believe you crafted such wonderful things from an RV, I am more impressed than I can find words to say.

I myself have been sick for the past several weeks. It seems the Ohio winter this year doesn’t like me, and I have had terrible Bronchitis. So scared it would turn into pneumonia, but I am feeling better each day. They say the cough is the last thing to leave. So, if I have not commented in a few days, please forgive me. I neglected my favorite blogs and my own blog. So hard to get caught up, isn’t it?

And I thought you were just an “Amazing designer”. Now I know you are truly an amazing woman. It took a long time to get to the bottom of the comments, just shows what an inspiration you are to so many. I too have been put in the position of caregiver this year as my husband has been battling stage 4 cancer. Friends constantly worry and give support to me, but I’m not the one who’s sick. His journey has been so much more difficult than mine. I’m just grateful for my own health to be able to care for him. We’ve had so much support and love from friends and family from all over the country and prayers being lifted up in places we are not even aware of. I know our own faith and the faith of others has gotten us through this year and God’s love will continually give us the strength we need to finish the race. I found that creating cards of sympathy, get well, just thinking of you and happy times like B’day, anniversaries, etc. allowed me to focus on others and get through the hardest of times. Bless you and your family and we’ll add them to our daily prayer list.ReplyCancel

I came upon your blog by a fluke and I have spent two days combing through your wonderful cards and ideas.

One idea (the owl on the booklet) was inspirational and I took that idea and ran with it. Dustin Pike has a website and a call went out to make cards for a little girl in Denver, Colorado who has Acute Myeloid Leukemia ….and she loves owls. He offered one of his owl digital images for free for anyone who wanted to make her a card.

Well, I am in the middle of finishing my card for her and I saw your blog…off to Michael’s for a hot-pink journal…out come my Nestabilites …oops, no punch for the head…internet search…download punch image…print on cardstock…trace it out….use distress inks for the very first time…put it together and….I am amazed! I did a great job and I am so pleased with myself.

I just wanted to say…thank you for your inspiration. I am a “paint by numbers” person and so brain-dead when it comes to putting a card together but, with blogs like yours and some others, I am managing to get it done and have fun at the same time.

I am so glad you are home and your husband is doing well. Prayers out your way!
