Amazing Paper Grace

The ordinary and unexpected gift of stamping

Remembering our Veterans

Posted by Becca Feeken on Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Happy Veterans Day!   I so hope you’ll take a moment to remember the fine men and women who have sacrificed for our country.  My family has always been tied to the military so Veterans Day brings special remembrance for us.  My late Father, my Father-in-Law, my Brother and the love of my life - my Husband are all veterans.  To them and all other veterans I say thank you for for your service to our country, thank you for safeguarding our peace and freedom.  Thank you also to our foreign friends whose soldiers also join us for a common cause.  Not only do you have my thanks and gratitude, but you have my undying respect.

It is so fitting that on my turn to host the challenge this month on CreatedbyHand, the challenge is about Remembrance.  The challenge starts on Tuesday of each week, but I held my card to post so that I could show it for Veterans Day to celebrate the fallen.  It is was very tempting to go all red, white and blue but instead a simple card.   I think when you read the magnificent Quietfire Design sentiment, called Perhaps They Are Not Stars, you’ll get the point.

For a simple card I cut a star window using Spellbinders Stars Five then stamped my sentiment and cut out using Spellbinders Labels Eight.  For the border I simply traced around the outside of the Labels Eight die template with a pencil then cut so I’d have a thin border.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Quietfire Design - Perhaps They Are Not Stars (small) 3" x 3"
Paper:  The Paper Company, Fancy Pants
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
Accessories:  Spellbinders Stars Five, Spellbinders Labels Eight, Clear Embossing Powder, Ribbon

Thanks for stopping by today.  When you’re out and about today, salute a Veteran!

Becca, everything you do is so beautiful and classy. I await with anticipation my visit on your blog every day and to use a French expression, I would never hesitate to say that you have “des doigts de fée”.

    Becca -

What a lovely card you’ve created to honor our service men and women! I agree, this is much more meaningful the way you’ve created it instead of using the typical red, white and blue.

BEAUTIFUL CARD! I can’t say that I have ever seen a card of yours that hasn’t just totally impressed me. Your craftmanship and composition is just awesome. Like so many others, I can’t hardly wait to get my Amazing Grace email to receive my inspiration for the day. You are truly a talented woman and for sure blessed by God. It’s great that you use your talents to honor HIM!!

A very elegant and classy card, Becca! I love that sentiment and use it often. Thanks to you and your extended family for their service to our country. This evening, at our Veteran’s Celebration dinner, I’m hosting a Hero card write in. These will then be sent with a large box of cards to Operation Write Home. Those now serving need to know how valued they are. Happy Veteran’s Day!

    Becca,

Awesome Card and Tribute! I love how you made the nesties stars, using the negative space instead of the positive space.
