Pinwheel Top Box on Hexagon Base

Hi there blog friends, I wanted to share with you a unique box that I made several months ago that I had not shared here.  If you are a box aficianado then perhaps this is one you might like.  I love the top of the box, it has a peak that makes it different.  Made using Spellbinders™ Hexagon Pinwheel Top Box.  I modified it’s use so that the template is only used as the lid and not as the entire box.  Here’s a picture with the lid off.

And a sneak peek under the lid.

Well, my sad story is that I was in the middle of making the tutorial for this box and I damaged the die template and am waiting for a replacement to come in.  It really was a fluke and please know, with proper usage, your die templates will never become damaged.  So, once that is back in, I’ll finish cutting pieces for an additional sample and then you’ll learn how to make this one as well.

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: None
Paper: Neenah Classic Crest Cream 80 lb Cover Cardstock, Bazzill
Ink: None
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Valor M-BossabilitiesSpellbinders™ Hexagon Pinwheel Top Box, Spellbinders™ Classic Bracket Edgeabilities, Spellbinders™ Classic Scallop Edgeabilties,  Seam Binding, Bead Landing Filigree, ScorPal Scoring Board, Scor-Tape

Thanks for stopping by, see you soon!!  Crafty hugs!

What a beautiful box, Becca. I am enjoying your posts for doing all of this paper folding to make cool stuff, so this is another item I will look forward to trying. I hope Spellbinders has a “rush” on your replacement!ReplyCancel

Oh goodness!! Sorry to hear about your die template. I did the same thing the other day with a new set of dies that I had just recently purchased. One of the dies in the set was on the cutting pad while I was in the process of cutting another size out and I didn’t realize it until it had gone through the machine and slightly bent the cutting edge of the die—well, slightly bent it enough to where it no longer works right. ugh—I know the feeling.ReplyCancel

Another Beautiful project! Love the rich color. Becca would you please share how you damaged your die? I am terrified of damaging one of mine. They are so expensive I only have a few and I am terrified of damaging them.

so very pretty , love the blue on the lid it just really makes it pop! As you and Janine said these things happen and it’s usually because we did something ,I also did’nt see on of my dies on my plate when I was cutting something and yep it bent it and cut it a bit , yep you could hear me crying I’m sure,These dies last for ever ladies it’s us that can give them a short life when were busy and excited to get something made.ReplyCancel

Becca, you could go on for a long time making these adorable little folding cards and boxes and it wouldn’t bother me a bit. I made up samples for each technique put it up for reference and then make what I am giving out. This little box is adorable….the ideas with these boxes are endless with all the choices of paper and embellishments out there. Thank you truly for spending time designing these for your bloggers. We are your unseen classroom awaiting directions!ReplyCancel

Loving that box! Funny that you mention ruining a die. I just ruined two and had never done that before. Don’t know what your issue was but I learned to make sure mine are spaced farther apart when using more than one in cutting.ReplyCancel

  • Marcie SmithFebruary 21, 2012 - 11:24 am

Becca, as I was reading your comment and some of the other comments, I am releived that I am not the only one who has ruined a die. In my case it was due to my cutting plate which thru extensive use has become warped in the middle. I probably should replace it, but while in the middle of mass producing invitations and cutting several dies at one time, one of my smaller dies slipped onto another die as I was feeding the sandwhiched plates thru my grand calibur. It actually cut into the other die and bent that die. I am still able to use it though. I just suggest that while cutting multiple dies at the same time that you make sure you tack your paper to the cutting plate as well so that they do not slip.
Looking forward to your tutorial on this adorable box.

    Hi Becca
Fabulous box and the colour as everyone has said, is gorgeous. So rich and opulant looking.
Sorry to hear about the damaged die, they are quite robust little things but we do still need to treat them so carefully don’t we. They are so expensive to replace and most people cannot afford to buy them more than once, so thank you for pointing this out as it will remind us all to be extra careful.
It would be lovely to see a tutorial when you are able. I still have to do the flap top box; hopefully this weekend!!
    Have a good day LindaReplyCancel

I went on the Canon website and could not find the calendar that you used in the picture. All the ones they show on display are much too big. If you wouldn’t mind could you tell me what size this particular calendar is and where to find it. I search on the Canon site and could not find the one you have on display. Also, is there directions on how to do the card you have the calendar attached too. Would love to try to make it.

    Thank you,
