No Sew, No Tie, Bow Tie

All right Blog Friends!!  Are you one of those who is get stressed every time you try to tie a bow?   Well get on over here!  I have a new bow that needs no tying and it’s simply too cute not to put on a card.  You know me, I’m always looking for something different that I don’t see everywhere else, to put on my cards.  Having said that, when you go to an occasion and the guys are all wearing suits and ties – they all blend in right?  Then, someone shows up in a bow tie.  Hey, don’t  you always remember that guy?  Today I have a no sew, no tie, bow tie that will hopefully make for a card that others will remember ;-)

For my card today, I was looking for something to send to some friends whose wedding I missed.   So I reached in to my Quietfire Design “toolbox”, you know, the one that seems to have a stamp for every occasion (and sometimes they fit many).  I pulled out one called Hand in Hand – isn’t it perfect?  In a nutshell I layered Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG and SM on top of Spellbinders Labels Eighteen on top of Spellbinders Curved Rectangles.  That combination of layers sits on top of two ruffled half medallions.  The final touch is my No Sew, No Tie, Bow Tie.  Different but good different, right?

SUPPLIES I USED

Stamps: Quietfire Design – Hand in Hand
Paper: The Paper Studio, Wausau (gold), The Paper Company
Ink: Versamark and Gold Embossing Powder
Accessories:
Spellbinders Labels Eighteen, Spellbinders Curved Rectangles, Spellbinders Classic Ovals LG, Spellbinders Classic Ovals SM, Ribbon

Okay, I got a little bit silly with this video but here it is to show you how to make the bow tie, enjoy!

  • Ann Marie GovernaleFebruary 5, 2011 - 10:13 am

I love the card and the way you layer multiple nestabilities- gives me such inspiration to use more than one on a card layout. Also love the bow tie- how appropriate for a wedding, too! Imagine all the fun colors you could use- might even be able to match the color of the bridal party! So many applications for that “bow-tie” bow. Isn’t double sided tape amazing! As a quilter, I know how much of a pain it is to sew on that type of ribbon fabric. Great tutorial, thanks!ReplyCancel

  • SherylHFebruary 5, 2011 - 10:20 am

What a great idea to use a bow-tie on a wedding card! I was going to use that same sentiment for my son’s upcoming wedding and now I can see using a bow to match their colours. Thanks for the continuing inspiration Becca.ReplyCancel

What a beautiful card!!! I’ve bought a lot of ribbon, but never seem to end up putting a bow on any of ny cards… it just never seems to fit. I’m not afraid of tying bows, though… I was always a “girly” girl and my mom taught me how to tie pretty bows when I was a kid. Love your bow tie though!!! I’m still trying to figure out an acronym in your description of your layering… it said “MS” and all I can think of is Martha Stewart! LOL!! I’m thinking you were describing how you matted the layers??? Is that your term for the small mats you do when you trace around the die and cut by hand???ReplyCancel

What a wonderful bow! Thank you so much for the tutorial. Your work is always so beautiful. How do you get all of your paper cuts to be so straight and precise, especially when your underlying mat extends only an eighth or quarter of an inch beyond the focal image mat? No matter how careful I am or what paper cutter I use, mine never seem as perfect as yours do.ReplyCancel
