Letters Mingle Souls

Don’t forget about the Girls Paperie Blog Candy. It runs until sometime in the evening on Tuesday, May 31st. You can click —->HERE<—- to get to the correct post to leave a comment.

Hi there blog friends.  Happy Memorial Day.  Let me just say that I’m so thankful for all that have served our country.  Today I’ll say a prayer for the fallen and a prayer to those in harms way.  God bless them all.

I’m starting the week off by playing along with Mojo Monday 193.  My card is very simple . . . I kept looking at it and thinking it needed something else, but I stopped.  It was a perfect opportunity for me to use one of the Quietfire Design stamps I’ve had in my stash for a while called Letters Mingle Souls.

The neat thing about the sketch this week is that the square version looks like a mitered frame.  Quite by coincidence I had a MS punch sitting off to the side because I thought it would make an easy mitered frame without measuring.  Well guess what . . . I was right!  All I needed to do was lop off one corner of the punch out that I punched two times on a 2″ strip.  The lattice is  tilted in 45 degrees – who knew?  So, that makes for a perfect mitered corner without me having to measure.  I just joined each corner together with tape . . . I’m sure you’ll see this again, lol!

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Quietfire Design – Letters Mingle Souls
Paper: Coredinations, Bazzill

Ink: Versafine Black Onyx, Victorian Velvet Distress Ink
Accessories: Spellbinders Labels Sixteen, Spellbinders Classic Squares LG, Spellbinders Classic Squares SM, Pearls, Seam Binding dyed with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, Lace, twine,

Happy Memorial Day to you all!  See you soon!

Hey Becca, I love this card! I read your directions several times, but I just couldn’t get it. Usually I get your directions very easily, but this time… Sometimes I’m a visual learner, and need to see it as well as read it or hear it.
Can you do a becca bit on how you did the mitered corners?
Or if you don’t want to do a video, would you do a photo tutorial?
Sorry to be such a pest, but I’d really like to try this. Your other tutorials on how to make around the page punches were fairly easy for me. They requited practice, but I got them.
    Thanks for sharing your talents!

What a beautiful card and you gotta love it ’cause it’s pink, and love the gorgeous stick pin, which I’m sure you made. • Francie (Montreal)May 30, 2011 - 12:07 pm

I am just so excited about this card and the prospects of a tutorial. You see, on June 8th last year you made a pink and white masterpiece called “So Thankful”. It had a wonderful frame made from the Classic Lace Border die and I fell madly in love with it.

I cranked out several miles of Classic Lace border with my little Cuttlebug in my unsuccessful attempt to recreate your frame. In my little acorn brain, it looks like the technique might be the same as it is for this current masterpiece and its lovely MS punch frame.

At the time, I was too shy to ask you how you did it. I am braver now that there are a few others that would like to know your secret. So just how do you do it? If you could word it as if you are talking to a not-too-bright 6 year old.

I know it’s a lot to ask. But if you could answer this question in a tutorial I’d be the happiest and most grateful card maker north of the 49th parallel. Thank you for considering my request. Even if you can’t, you’re still tops in my world.ReplyCancel

What a fabulous card. Fantastic frame. Love how the pearls finish off the corners so nicely. I’ve got this punch on my wish list. Love anytime one of my tools can do more then one job. Great tip on cutting the lattice! So simple even I could do it! Love your bow, it would never have dawned on me you use twine like that. Love your lace. You inspired me, I am proud to say I’ve purged and organized my lace.

Wow! Becca that is beautiful! I have that punch and I think I can duplicate this from what you have said AND looking at the picture of the frame. It is just a matter of punching it until you have 12 loops, punch four of them and then trim them all to achieve that 45 degree diagonal mitre! I can hardly wait to get back into my room and give this a try!! Thanks for sharing. I love everything you do, and agree with what someone commented before, beautiful, gorgeous, wonderful: YES Simple, I don’t know. However, once you see it done, it truly is usually simple.ReplyCancel

  • Barb TMay 30, 2011 - 3:02 pm

Your cards and its sentiment are beautiful.
Letters are so important, even many years after they are written. While my father was serving in the Marines during the Korean (during the ’50s) conflict, he sent me (then age 6 or 7) several letters on encouragement, pride and love. In 1971, he died. Many years later, while looking for a special Bible passage to add to an article I was editing for the magazine I worked for, (also feeling the time pressure I was under), his letter, lost all those years, appeared.
I really appreciated hearing from my father after all those years. Though he had died nearly 26 years earlier, he again gave my the encouragement and love I needed.
Doesn’t God also work in the same way? His words are the Bible.ReplyCancel

Gorgeous! You can bet that I’ll be getting out that punch and experimenting with mitered corners! I make lots and lots of card for Operation Write Home, they gather blank handmade cards from cardmakers all over the place and ship them to the troops serving overseas to use to write home to family and friends. It’s my way of thanking them for their service. Why I went into that is that the size that they like the most (fits the best in boxes, etc) is A2 or 4.25 x 5.5. So I try to convert the inspiration that I get from you to that size. Since I never know which of my cards I’ll end up sending to OWH. Only occasionally do I make cards in the large sizes that you do.
Thanks for sharing your amazing art works,

I’ve been watching your recent poll. Lots of readers are asking for more tutorials. Many just love to see lots of projects.

This gave me an idea for a tutorial I’d love to see. I would love to see how the inside of your cards look. Weird? Not really. The outsides are gorgeous and to die for, but I’ve often wondered how your neatly hide the laces wrapped around the cards fronts. Do you keep it on the front? Are there multiple layers inside to hide the lace and ribbon ends? I’m sure you have some tips on keeping the tails neat and hidden. I would love to learn them!

Really love your blog. Your cards inspire me. They inspire me to make large purchases to ODB and Spellbinders. I am having so much fun playing with my new toys from my recent birthday. Keep up the lovely work.ReplyCancel
