If You Were Looking For A Sign, This is It

I’m a firm believer that the answer is usually close by, right under your nose or just under a prayer.    How often have you seen someone who is struggling and the answer is clear but they’re so paralyzed they can’t move forward?  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been there myself – sometimes it just takes some soul searching and a little nudge to know the way to go.   That’s the inspiration that led me to create the Looking for A Sign set – it’s a light-hearted encouragement set that prompts a person to move forward and lets them know you are behind them all the way.  Yes these things take their time but reassurance is always welcome.  The set is anchored with an ornate stacked cascade of flourishes that can be paired up with more than nine different nudging phrases.  It’s different and I have to say that my personal set is getting a work out!  This set is close to my heart, thanks for letting me gush about it!  I have two card making ideas to share today using the new set along with a set of dies (Spellbinders Custom for JustRite – Filigree Corners) also re-released by popular request.  The first card looks involved but could not be simpler.  I cut six of the smaller corners arranging three at each end with points to the center.  Then I took JustRite Vintage Labels Three and popped it on top, stenciling it to make it stand out.  That left me a hole that was a perfect opening for the stamp!   I finished off by stamping my sentiment on the banner from JustRite Vintage Label and Banners Die(Card size 8-1/2″ x 5″)

Next up is a blue card using the sentiment by itself.  For this card I pulled out one of the phrases and made it the main part of the card.  This one has a couple of layers but uses Spellbinders Elegant Labels Four, Spellbinder Labels Twenty Four, Spellbinders Venetian Motifs, Spellbinders Labels Eighteen, Spellbinders Back to Basics Tags.  For stamps I used Looking for A Sign and Filigree Journal Covers.

So a little bit you may want to know about this card that you can’t really see by looking – it has a Filigree Hinged Card Base with the hinge pointed toward the back.  The back is a piece of card stock cut to 4-5/8″ x 5-1/5″ then on the inside (back) you have a design paper piece of card stock the same size to hide the hinge.  You might ask why I did that….I took a chunk out of the center of Elegant Labels Four to make a more compact card – I cut 2-5/8″ from each edge and discarded the center before taping the two pieces together at the center.  (Okay, so that’s the background)

Here’s your Step-by-Step Recap: See above for card base – die cut card base 4-5/8″ x 5-1/5″ , foam tape, die cut layer using Labels Twenty Four, foam tape, die cut layer using Venetian Motifs (cut in half), foam tape, die cut layer using Labels Eighteen, die cut layer using Back to Basics Tags.  Add bow, pearls and bling.

I have two birthday cards to make this week… one for my 2 yr.old great-grandson and one for my SonIL’s sister. This blue card will be perfect for the sister! And, as fate would have it, paper was on sale at HB yesterday and I got a sheet of a lovely dusty blue that called to me from the bin. I don’t usually use colors like that but it was so pretty. Now I can use it on this card label! My grandson and his wife are more the Steampunk type so I will make a message in a bottle for the great-grandson and dress the outside with spinners and gears and a picture of the little one with my remembrances of him rolled up and placed inside with a little sand and some sea shells. Thank you so much for this lovely idea at just the right time!! Good luck with your make-over!!ReplyCancel

Hi?Becca! Love love your elegant cards – and would like to learn more from you. Just wondering: do you have “embossing” problem with marks from well-used cutting boards (I am using Cuttlebug)?

When I cut from delicate dies, most of times I needed to run the sandwich through the machine several times. Many times I noted the back the paper somehow got “embossed” by all the cutting marks from the cutting boards. If it’s a piece to be glued down, that’s no big deal; but if I make a hinged card (leave the fold side uncut), those marks are clearly visible from the back. I don’t think glue another piece of paper to back be a good solution.

    Any suggestions? Best regards.ReplyCancel

Beautiful cards !! I would love to be able to make something like this… I just recently became interested in making my own cards and unfortunately my budget isn’t very large each month of available cash to invest in this hobby of mine. I checked to see what it would take to make one of the cards you show and it’s not cheep… for the dies alone it would be quite an investment… Which dies would you recommend to start off with ? Thank you for sharing your most amazing talent and artistry !!ReplyCancel
