Great Love

Sweet blog friends, I can’t tell you how much your support means.  Life has changed for me so much and you are an absolute life line for me.  The value of a kind supportive word is priceless – I’m so grateful.  Hang in there with me, okay?  In the meantime, after months and months of Christmas cards, it was great to channel a little energy into something else.  Today I have a card made using a color combination I don’t think I would normally pick up, but it will go in my little inspiration book – this is how it played out in my mind.

Using another of the sentiments from this months Our Daily Bread Designs release called Simple Things – I layered Spellbinders™ Blossom Tags and Accents on top of Spellbinders™ Parisian Motifs.  That’s a new one for me – it just goes to show that even when you think there’s no other way to shuffle around the layers – the combinations are endless.  I topped off with Spellbinders™ Classic Circles LG and edged my bottom panel with Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents that I cut in half to use as a border.  (Yep, I’ll be trying that again :-))

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Our Daily Bread DesignsSimple Things
Paper: Glitz, Lilybee Design, Coredinations
Ink: Versafine – Vintage Sepia
Accessories: Spellbinders™ Twisted Metal Tags and Accents, Spellbinders™ Blossom Tags and Accents, Spellbinders™ Parisian Motifs, Spellbinders™ Classic Circles LG, Seam Binding, Satin Ribbon, Spare Parts Brad, Recollections Pearls

I had a doctors appointment today and waited for the doctor two and a half hours past my appointment time.  The crazy thing is that everyone in the waiting room was behind me in line and they waited patiently like this is how the world is supposed to work.  One man mused that this doctor had emergency surgery that cropped up every day during appointment time – at least four of the last five times he had visited.   As well as being armed with the kindness of your supportive words, God graced me with the patience of a saint today.  This was the first time visiting this doctor and he didn’t even pretend to be nice – I came away thinking he didn’t like his job.  All of Johns doctors were so nice such that if I ever ran into them in the grocery store, they would stand there and talk to me for a while.  Still trying to get cleared for foot surgery and insisting on answers, I’m pressing on!!  Big hugs, I’ll be back soon friends.

Oh, Becca, this is absolutely gorgeous!! I wouldn’t have thought of putting these colours together…and they’re beautiful. Love how you cut up and intertwined the Twisted Metal piece. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent!ReplyCancel

You are in my prayers, Becca. Some doctors just have that “god” syndrome. I hope you are treated quickly and effectively so that you don’t have to waste too much time with this dr.

Love your card, as always. You are the one I enjoy most reading your blog and looking at your incredibly gorgeous cards. There is none better!

God’s blessings and continued patience to you!!!ReplyCancel

OOOoooOO – -so gorgeous! I would never think up those colors. You inspire me constantly in your creativity with colors. Okay, and with layering, too. Well yes. With everything you post! :-D
I am angry you had to wait so long for someone to take care of you. That is just sooo wrong. I just went off on a huge rant there and had to delete a bunch of stuff. So, consider yourself loved and hugged from afar. I think that will be more useful than a huge rant!!ReplyCancel

    Gorgeous card….as always!!!

Keeping you close in thought, prayer, and wishes for a successful medical outcome. Some doctors are very good at what they do professionally, but have no empathy or people skills. Fortunately, my father, an anesthesiologist, was very skilled and was also very loved by all who knew him.

I really hope for you, that you´ll get your surgery very soon hun, and don´t mind that rude doctor. Don´t know why, but as soon as they call them self specialists, it´s almost like their words has to be law, and anybody who even think of asking questions to anything, is attacking them in person and doubting their amazing skills, even it has nothing to do with that. Just ignore him or ask if he´s having a bad day, cause it can´t be taken out on you. I diod that once, and funny enough, he then suddenly became quiet friendly and took the time to explain things. So just hang in and keep claiming some good answers as it´s your body and your life, he´s playing with, so you´re entitled to get some good answers, that´s for sure.
Your card is absolutely gorgeous hun and I just so love these colors here and how you used the dies. It looks awesome hun.
Have a wonderful day and a happy New Year hun and I´ll keep you in my prayers here, that you´ll very soon get your surgery and some relief.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, a beautiful card yet again and a lovely colour combination.
I have just “tuned in” after visiting my family for Christmas. I’m so sorry to hear how you are suffering still and will add you to my prayer list. (If only it could get shorter!!!!) I was a health care professional for nearly forty years before retiring, and sometimes I feel very ashamed of what is happening in the profession. The UK is no different. My husband had the very first appt of the morning 8:30 am and was 50 mins late going in. It would help if somebody came out and gave an update on the reason for the delay I think. Oh well, rant over! I hope things begin to resolve soon!

  • Ellen - CardMonkeyDecember 29, 2011 - 3:56 am

Dear Becca, as ever, your card is gorgeous and inspiring. Clearly, you have the patience of Job even in cardmaking, as I would never think to create and stack as many delicious layers as you use.

Your patience came in handy today at the doctor’s office. I empathize! I have one specialist just like that, I call him my “Mad Man of Neurology.” His staff typically amuse the waiting patients by calling us back one by one to take full histories, giving us the attention he doesn’t. Then, when it’s our turn to visit the Great Wizard behind the curtain, he sweeps in, stares at the computer where staff has entered your history, asks a few irrelevant questions and I doubt ever looks in my eyes or face. If I was wearing chewing gum on my nose, or painted my eyebrows purple, I doubt he’d notice. Trouble is, while his “bedside manner” is outrageous, he together with his staff have cured my migraines and saved my life at least once.

It’s been several years since I’ve seen him, luckily — his analytical skill and diagnostics have made it that way. I wish for you the same: ANSWERS. Treatment. Painlessness. Comfort. Consider your hours an investment in getting there.

We need you healthy and hale. Here’s to a swift journey to wellness, and a softer 2012.

    Fondly, Ellen ? CardMonkeyReplyCancel

This card is stunning, Becca! So sorry for you to have to endure such a long wait for medica care. Emergencies happen, overbooking also happens; a pleasant and caring attitude goes a long way when dealing with patients who have waited hours. Common civility…many in power seem to forget. sigh —– anyway – hope everything goes well for you.

Your card is wonderful. You always think outside the box when it comes to using Nesties. I’m sorry you had to endure a long wait for the doctor. I hope he will find answers for you quickly so you don’t have to endure the wait or the doctor’s rudeness. Just take your inspiration book with you to plan out some wonderful cards or print out some of these comments while you wait – the doctor obviously doesn’t have the strong support system you have. Hang in there. I hope 2012 will be much better for you.ReplyCancel

Another beautiful card as expected!! I wished that we lived close so that I could just be in the same room to watch and absorb your creativity. I have yet to tackle trying to tie the beautiful bows that you make. I’m starting to make the hat pins because of your inspiration but want to wait to use them w/the bows.

Prayers are with you as you endure the doctor circuit. God bless the kind, caring and compassionate ones that are left in this world!! I broke both of my feet and had wonderful podiatrists. So funny I am trying to bring in that blueish color into my living/dinning, I got my daughter a sofa a few years back the same blueish kept the loveseat now she has them both, and My couch is the color of your accents, I just told her to bring over her table cloth so I could see if I can use blueish in my place. I just find the color so calm to work in. So I guess now I’ll be working more on making it work.
love love your card, I had to swing over to spellbinders and look at the Twisted Metal Tags and Accents to see how you did that , Very cleaver.I have a doctor like that to have to see him twice a year , 5 min. of his time 3 hours of mine. . I hope that you are able to find the answers to your health issures and are able to find a doctor that you love to deal with ( thats important) but sometimes thats not the way it works.
Miss seeing you more, Hope that 2012 is a good one for you and everyone here in the land of cyber space and the cardmaking world.ReplyCancel

Becca! I guess I’m not the only one then! We once sat in a doctors office, with our kids; They were not on their med’s either…for 3 hours!!!!!!! It was a little exam room & it got hot! We opened the door thinking we had been forgotten! She was at the hospital! NO ONE told us! I changed doctors! Those doctors forget, your time is valueable too! But, I do have to say, I have a hard time even choosing doctors!!!!!! ( I tend to find the WORST!!!) I always find out later I REALLY don’t like them! The stories I could tell!!!!!!!!!! I’m ready to find myself another doctor now! When I was pregnant with my first child, I read an article about Interviewing Your Childs’ Doctor! Basically, it was a Job Interview for the doctor! Well, that didn’t go over well! The doctor basically snickered at me the whole time! ( I used questions from the Magazine article too! ) Needless to say, he DIDN’T get the job! Well, I am thinking to use the same method this time to find myself a doctor! Although, I don’t remember those questions! But, I’m thinking of giving it a try!

BEAUTIFUL card Becca! I LIKE the color combination!!!!!!!!!!! And of course, all those BEAUTIFUL layers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You NEVER let us down!!!!! :)ReplyCancel

  • mamajulieDecember 29, 2011 - 8:38 am

Oh, Becca! Nothing worse than being caught in “the health care merry-go-round”–drs. appts. almost daily, no decisions made, waiting, referrals. I have personally changed doctors because of waiting times, and my current doctor has a maximum of 5 minutes waiting time. But that’s impossible to do at the specialist level…You can force your doctor to interact with you, but then you get labeled as a “problem patient,” and all your reasonable requests are dismissed as you have that label. Great patience and saintly restraint are called for. Praying for you to receive both. Incidentally, I love the color combination here. Blue/aqua and a darkish neutral are always a hit.ReplyCancel

  • Marge R. (mer)December 29, 2011 - 8:38 am

Becca, your card and those colors are FABULOUS!!! LOVE it all, including the duo-color bow!!!
Hope whatever doctor you choose for surgery is well-skilled in his craft, even IF he has no bedside manner. Some are so very talented in one or two ways, even IF lacking in kindness or understanding the value of your time and patience! Hopefully you can take something beautiful to work on while you wait endlessly in their waiting rooms!ReplyCancel

  • JessicaDecember 29, 2011 - 8:53 am

I love this card Becca! Of course I love them all…but this color combo is just gorgeous! I wouldn’t have put them together either. Tell me…when you decide on what dies to use, do you play with the dies or do you have cuts for them all that you play with the layering? I think it would be easier to see what it would really look like with the actual cuts. But then, I don’t have your wonderful eye!
As for the uncaring doc…my last back surgery was done by a man with the bedside manor of a squid. When, after a couple of months of continuing pain, I went back, he told me…”I can’t do anything more for you, you’re wasting your money and my time.” And walked out of the room! So…yep if/when I need to see another doctor…it won’t be him. It’s a shame that these men become so good at what they do, that they forget that we and they are human beings! Good luck with your foot surgery! Lots of hugs

In the world of fibromyalgia there is never answer for our pain there is just pain and with all the time lost there is suffering who just build up inside of us.
The relation with doctors are very difficult because he is confronted to his limits. He is frustrated and he have no time to give attention at those multiple problems.
By chance we can put our attention on something else like the beauty of your work. At the end of the day when it is to difficult there is memory of something good I have received and it make a difference.
I hope so much you will find the help you need because we need you to.
I like the multiple layers and the tricky touches you give to spellbinder.
About the colors it don’t optimize your work. I prefer your real zones.

I went to an ER at 8pm and waited untill 7am to see a dr for 5 min. I was told that i couldn’t leave as that would be going against dr’s orders and my insurance wouldn’t pay anything. I had an EKG and hadn’t seen any dr when I was told this. People were sleeping in the waiting room. I think they only had one dr working that night and they had a code. They should have had another dr on call to come in. It was inexcusable!! I was so mad. My daughter was with me and she went out to her car and slept. I had a doctor many years ago that was running very late for his appointments. When he entered the room the first thing he said was, “Now you know why we call you patients (play on words – patience). I sometimes think that doctors feel that our time is not valuable. My Mom who at the time was 102 fussed at a doctor who was late for her appointment and she told him that she didn’t know how much time she may have left in this world and she didn’t want to spend it in his office. He was dumb struck and apologized. You are in my prayers. Keep that beautiful chin up.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca!

This is so gorgeous! I love browns and teals/blues together and a touch of cream! It gives a nice masculine feel to it. The Spellbinder dies combos ARE endless, the only limitation I have is my funds, lol! I just got 2 new dies and I’m having fun playing around with them. Right now I am working on my round 2 submission for their DT, (amazingly!!!) there are SO many possiblities to choose from!!! So much amazing talent submitting with me, Yikes! Not sure how far I will go, but God’s in charge and I’ll go about as far as He wants me to and that’s okay with me! :-)

I feel for you and those inconsiderate doctors out there. Some can be SO nice, and then there are others that are a wee bit arrogant. I have an appointment today with one who is ALWAYS late, (I have to see him every 6 weeks, ugh) so I’ve learned to brings my IPad, a book, water, etc. with me, lol. At least he’s not that arrogant as some are though!

I hope things are going okay with you. I’ve been following you for a long time and know you’ve been through a lot. I have had my fill of heartbreak the past couple of years myself. I think of you often and pray. You are a wonderful inspiration for me. Blessings!

It is so hard to walk and talk like a Christian sometimes. Especiallly when we are tired and emotionally stressed. Next time you have to deal with a rude doctor, shock the good into them by giving them a great big ol’ hug. Bet that would shame them into a better bed side manner and they sure as the dickens would remeber you next time. LOL As usual, love your card, you can come and decorate my house anytime you like… if you are not an interior decorator, you might should consider this as a side line. : ) All my best…. you are blessed….. you have friends too numerious to count….. Hugs, DeniceReplyCancel

I love your card and choice of color combination. I am loving the ODBD Simple Things stamps and will need to add them to my collection-LOL.
I am sorry to hear about your experience with your new doctor, he definitely didn’t make a good first impression and I hope his attitude changes before your next visit. I will continue to keep you in my prayers as I consider you a friend even though we haven’t met in person!ReplyCancel

Hi Becca…lovely card today, as always. I would just like to chime in (being the spouse of a physician) that the majority of people have no idea what goes on in a doctor’s office behind the front door. There are a myriad of very good reasons why a doctor runs behind schedule on any given day at any given time. That, of course, in no way excuses rude behavior. I will hold you in my prayers and pray your next experience will be more positive.ReplyCancel

  • GlendaDecember 29, 2011 - 1:29 pm

Oh Becca, I do hope you read this. I am catching up on my email. When you are waiting that long to see a doctor and he ends ups nice or not so nice (as surgeons can be) this falls into my category of “I need you more than you need me”. And you keep telling yourself this rather than checking your watch. You know what time you got there so you can check your watch when they stick you in that little room to wait some more and then you can check it again when you are finally finished and get a whiff of the outside air once again! I do not live in the US but if you were very unsatisfied with either the doctor or the information you received I would not devote too many more hours but move on and try another unless this doctor is a miracle worker and that is what you need. He never apologized for the wait did he? The only other advise, IF possible pick the very first appointment of the day even if it means you have to get up at 5 am to get there – LOL! Or try and ask how appointments go with his surgical schedule – which may or may not be received well. But remember it is ALWAYS the case that “you will need them more than they need you”.
Then come home and create another masterpiece such as this! I love the twisted metal accent edge!ReplyCancel

I watched a segment on the national news one evening and a doctor was interviewed. He admitted that he treated patients as numbers until his own wife became ill and he suddenly realized how important it was to treat each of his patients as if they were a member of his family … showing kindness, offering words of support and taking the time to visit and answer their questions. He’s the minority, unfortunately.ReplyCancel

I love the color combination…but then I like shades of brown and tans…Also just wanted to let you know that sometimes they have no answers…I spent 8 days in the hospital this month and still had to answers before I left…I ended up with CO poisoning and no reason how or why it looked like my feet had died…they soon found out that I had feeling the hard way…by body swelled up with water…you get the picture…I was given a IV form of a water pill, and from the time they weighed me in the bed til now have lost 67 lbs…not a great weight loss method…I maybe on oxygen for the rest of my life…do not know…hopefully answers in Jan…so like you would like answers and you would think they have them, but they sometimes do not…they have decided that I am a medical mystery, as every time they thought they had a answer, my body through a wrench into the works…had a Dr. say to my Nurse you hate to tell a patient they are interesting, but boy she is interesting…so carry on and get those answers…take care…..ReplyCancel

Dear Becca, so sorry to hear your health problems persist. I guess none of us expects to have perfect health all the time. But, it does add comfort to have health providers who both care and who are competent. Seems you’ve got problems on all fronts. I continue to pray that you begin to see success in your journey back to good health.

With all your health challenges, I am continually amazed that you can dip into your depleted energy and come up with yet another remarkable card. It is absolutely beautiful.

One of the nicest things about life, no matter how bad things are or how good things are, it won’t last for long. Change is part of life and you will get through this.ReplyCancel

First, your card is totally stunning. I love the color combo and I was thinking what did she use for a border?? I don’t recognize that die…Twisted Metal tags!! You are so very very clever!!
Now about the Dr, while there can be reasons for such a horrific wait, it you don’t like him to boot?! Is there a specific reason that you were referred to him? Is he supposed to be the best for your problem? Is there anyone else that you could see? Is there a Dr that you trust that you could ask about this one? The reason that I ask these questions is I have 2 experiences with Dr’s like the one you describe. The one was very positive in the end. Yes he’s always late, no I don’t really like him, personally…however he is a brilliant surgeon…the other one the same on the first 2 items, but he was NOT brilliant in the operating room, in fact he darn near killed a friend of mine…everyone I know has been warned about this clown. You keep asking questions Becca! You deserve the best, we certainly want you to have it, we need our Becca fixes!! Keeping you in my thoughts. And wishing and hoping that 2012 will be a much better year for all of us.
    With crossed fingers,

Becca, Thank you for sharing your gorgeous card with us. You are such an inspiration to me. Not just in your talent, but in the way you accept whatever life brings you. I’m sure it’s not easy, but you take it with such “grace”. You’re quite a LADY!!! I think the longest I’ve ever waited for a Dr. to see me, was four hours and fort-five minutes. I know the nurse put me in “that little room”, and forgot about me. When the Dr.(an OBGYN ) came in, I was putting on my clothes to leave. He didn’t offer any excuses. I told him I would never come back, that my time was valuable too, and I haven’t! Maybe the next time you see your specialist, he’ll be having a better day. I hope that he is a remarkably wonderful surgeon, that can make you all better quickly! If you’re not impressed when you see him again, maybe God wants you to find someone else. I so wish you good health and happiness in the new year! I’m still keeping you in my prayers! Love and hugs, Patty W.ReplyCancel

I think surgeons are all anti-social. They must be better when we are asleep. I need hip replacements and my surgeon seems hardly capable of making conversation at all. I sympathize!
I love the colours on the card. So not Christmas!

I do love your card today. I understand about the doctor waiting time. I used to work for a doctor who was consistently late with clinic but he actually would sit and listen if you wanted to talk. What a difference! Patients felt it made sense and he was and still is successful. All it takes is a little kindness. I hope all goes well for you. I know it can be really trying when you are not at your best. Hugs and prayers for you!ReplyCancel

    Becca,
I developed a rare life threatening illness 10 years ago and became disabled because of it. The disease is rare and it has been a long painful journey finding a medical team that understood how to work as a team. When I started out I saw doctors as God. Now I see them as team members, who must be able to talk to me and talk to the other team members. I have fired docotors and will not hesitate to do it in the future. Emergencies do happen and I see those as out of the doctor’s ability to control. BUT the staff has the responsibility to keep you informed and let you know when he is expected back-so you can get other things done while waiting or they need to rechedule. I also always take projects that I can work on while I am waiting-such as coloring-I plan ahead to minimize tools needed.

I have also learned to ask for itemized bills and challenge them when necessary.

The current team consists of the National Health Institue (NIH) and over 10 specialists locally and a specialist in NYC. They are a great team and repect the knowledge base I have gained through the years. They see me as an “expert” also. Both of my children have spent a lot of time in the local Children’s hospital. They treated me as an important member of the team there also. You can get a working team, but it takes time and you have to get comfortable with feeling OK with firing doctors that have a God complex. There are awesome doctors out there who understanding they are PRACTICING medicine, so therefore they do not have all the answers but are willing to learn. And believe me we are constantly learning about my Behcets which is complicated with 23 other diseases. Even lyesterday we had another learning round with the chemo I am getting. If it can go wrong it will, lol.

I have also found being able to laugh and looking at the disease as a gift from God that has opened up other doors really helps. My ex left me shortly after becoming ill. But due to the disability I have been able toi be a stay at home Mom for my teenage boys. They have learned to be compassionate towards those with disabilities and have become awesome adults.

Hang in there. My prayers are with you! If you need to talk feel free to contact me and I will give you my phone number.ReplyCancel

    Becca,
Oh my these colors and papers are simply gorgeous together. Add in you creativeness, and it is just stunning. Love the sentiment. As for your doctor appt., I think there are a lot of surgeons’ who are very good at what they do and actually love what they do but who lack people skills . Their true love and best qualities actually shine thru in the OR. That is why after the original discussion of what he can or cannot do for you, he/she turns the pre-op and post-op over to the PA’s. I know a little about this, because my son-in-law is an Orthipedic PA in Emergency and OR. Like you, I am always more comfortable with someone who is personable and likeable. But that does not mean that they are necessarilly the best in their field. It just means that it puts me more at ease.

These are some of my favorite colors and you have done an outstanding job of layering them – what a beautiful card.
Hang in there with the doctors….this is a very busy time of year as everyone tries to use up spending accounts or squeeze in things before their new deductibles kick in. That said, if his manner doesn’t improve I would move on. After surgery on my right shoulder and real disappointment I moved on to a new Doc on my left and was much happier and he was much better. God Bless.ReplyCancel

I simply adore this card, the colors are so gorgeous together, the borders are so creative and adore the simple quote.. the bow and colors of the ribbons add so much to the card… This card is fabulous!!
As far as the doctor goes, I would never wait 2 1/2 hours for a new doctor then to have a rotton attitude on top I would never go see him again.. no one deserves a doctor with bad bedside manners.. If he is tired, then he should not be seeing patients outside of the hospital and if he is like that all the time, he should not be a doctor… Find yourself another doctor Becca… There are better ones out there… more compassionate ones who will help you and answer your questions… God Bless
    Hugs, JeanReplyCancel
