Grant Me The Serenity

Serenity Card - Amazing Paper Grace
Greetings blog friends, I truly hope you are having a wonderful week!!  Today I took time to make a card for my sweet daughter who is going through a challenging time.  Ever the optimist, for the first time I see her in a different light as she struggles to get on top of some of the obstacles that life often places in front of us.  She one of the most level headed, tell-it-like-it-is, cut-and-dry people that I know, but we all know how easy it is give advice to others than it is to look inward and know what to do with our own dilemmas.  Even with grown kids I feel like the mom running after the youngster on their first attempt without the training wheels.  I guess that never stops.  I’m good to stand back and not look alarmed; it makes me feel like I’m doing something supportive to send her a card with some subtle reminders :-)

Serenity Card Close - Amazing Paper Grace

So you know that lately I’ve been gushing about digital papers; this one came to me just in the nick of time.  I found a new site (OScraps) that I simply love and this Serenity Paper was one of the projects – I know I’ll use this a lot!!  I printed it out but changed the colors of the filled in “o’s” so that they are all the same color.   The Gingham Paper also comes from the same site.   I know that some of you don’t like digital, but my craft budget this year calls for drastic measures, lol.  Starting with a 6″ x 6″ base I layered on the gingham paper followed by a layer with the serenity paper cut with Spellbinders™ Grand Squares (5″).  Once I know that I have one square layer, it’s a cinch on my paper cutter to glue then trim while keeping things neat and tidy.   I cut the new Spellbinders™ Just Swingin’ die template – it’s so whimsical it makes me smile!  I wanted to keep the cutout white, so I edged the die with my ink so that it would stand out a little bit from the background.  I tied a vertically oriented bow then added a sweet little tag from Spellbinders™ Back to Basics Tags and stamped one of the impactful words from Words of Faith.

I’m sending this to her at work in hopes it will live on her desk and give her the gentle reminder that she can’t control the world and others and that things will be all right if she surrenders what she can’t change.  Hmmmm, what was that I said about easy to give advice?  I think I’ll take some too :-)

Beautiful, and what a wonderful way to keep your daughter reminded. And to remember Mama is still watching over her too. Yes, it IS so hard, and although we let them go, we really don’t let them go, do we? (I don’t anyway!). Thanks for the links to some good websites, and I just saw the S/B swing die ‘in person’ today in my stamp group. Really a lovely one. You did it proud. TFSReplyCancel

Love your card and the new Spellbinders Tree die. I’ve been admiring that new die for days and your card makes it even more inviting. Your daughter is blessed to have a caring and loving mom that STILL looks after her. Your words are so familiar as we’ve “been there, done that” and you’ve inspired me to go make a card for my daughter, too! PMReplyCancel

    Hey Becca!
As a mother I know how hard to see your kids go through difficulties and just stand back and let them deal with it
It is very hard… but praying for them is the most powerful thing a mom can do
    The card is very beautiful
    Love,

I can tell you from experience, you will never hurt more than to know your child is in pain and nothing is harder than to stand back and let them go through it knowing that is what needs to be. I am now on my round of grand children so I guess it never ends. Best advice I ever listened to….. Be Still And Know That I Am God….. : ) DeniceReplyCancel

A truely gorgeous card here Becca, and I´m sure, it´ll cheer your daughter up, when she see this. It can only put her in a good mood to look at this beauty.
I agree, it´s always sooo much easier to know, what everybody else have to do, but suddenly pretty difficult, when it´s one self, but that´s how life is too.
Have a wonderful week-end to both of you there.ReplyCancel

This is a beautiful card which your daughter will love. I’m sure that as a parent it must be so difficult to stand by helpless when your child is suffering. In the words of the hymn by C A Gabriel “Just Keep On Praying Till Light Breaks Through” – God is there!

By the way I love the Just Swinging die.

    Love from Christine xxReplyCancel

This came at just the right time. My granddaughter just turned 16 and got her drivers license this week. I spent all of last year teaching her how to drive and while she is a good, careful driver, I’m a basket case. I can barely function due to worrying about her driving in our area of crazy traffic and drivers. I’ve been praying all the time about it but am struggling.
    Okay, I feel better now.
Love this card and your sweet spirit.
Good luck and wishes to your daughter.

Is the 52 Inspirations from O’Scrap the 2013 edition? I attend Celebrate Recovery and I have NEVER seen the entire Serenity Prayer in a format available for card-making/scrapping.

I found O’Scrap but they don’t give any details about what is contained so if you could let me know if that is the right product, I will tell them you sent me.

    Blessings,
