From Our Nest

You still have until Friday night at Midnight to enter for the blog candy.  Read about the rules and enter HERE.

I’m using one of the new sets from Our Daily Bread Designs called Nest.  The sentiments are wonderful and cover so many occasions, so I’ve made a card that can be used as housewarming, welcome to the neighborhood or just a gift.  In order to get the sentiment to fit on the tag I created, I used my Stampamajig to split the sentiment in half – ya gotta love that tool!!   I was intrigued by the shape made when crossing two Spellbinders™ Labels Four and used it as a mat for my oval medallion using Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals SM and Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals LG.

From my stash I had a piece of lace that is actually raw on the edges and is probably used for insertion in heirloom sewing – it just seemed to add a little bit of interest to the underlying green ribbon.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – Nest
Paper:  Bazzill, Graphic 45 – Florentine, K&Co. – Lifes’ Journey
Ink:  Versafine – Sepia
Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Labels Four, Spellbinders™ Petite Scalloped Ovals LG, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals SM, Spellbinders™ Petite Ovals LG, Copic Markers, Pearls, Ribbon

Thanks for stopping by today.  Mwah!

Hi Becca, Hope you and your family are doing better. I’m still praying for ya too. You’re card is beautiful. Your coloring is beyond compare. I study your work and try to use your technique when I color. (I didn’t say I achieve it, but I try.) What a nice gift this card would be, for someone to get when they move into your neighborhood. As for the “B” list……..My husband lived in Idaho when he was a young man. He traveled all over the west and from Canada to Texas. He loved it. He’s talked so much about it that I have wanted to go there too. Well, you know with work and getting a start in life, building a home, having children (5), we didn’t have the time or money to go. Now the kids are out of college and out of the house, so now’s the time, right? Hopefully if life doesn’t get in the way, my Sweetie and I will get there. That’s the Plan! Thanks for letting me try to win your fun candy. I would sooo love to win! Blessings! Patty W.ReplyCancel

So charming Becca!! I LOVE that nest image and you colored it beautifully!!ReplyCancel

  • Lynne PhelpsFebruary 12, 2010 - 10:37 am

You are right – the “ribbon” is called entredeux (between two) and it is used as insertion between two pieces of fabric – usually a fine cotton batiste! With the opening being so wide, this probably would have been used as beading with a fine satin ribbon woven in and out through the bars – maybe you can try that technique with your entredeux on another card! I used to do lots of French heirloom sewing by hand and machine when my darling neices were young, I sure miss all the special requests for American Girl doll clothes! Now they are in college – I’ll have to hope for lots of grands!

Your card is exquisite, I have Label 4 and I am in love with how they look crossed! Brilliant, as always!ReplyCancel

  • Linda StandartFebruary 13, 2010 - 8:24 am

It’s a beautiful card and a wonderfully creative use of the ribbon insertion strip. Incidentally, that’s what it is. Not lace. And you were right in your guess concerning one of its uses. It was a common element in Ladies ‘intimate garments’ in times before elastic. Ribbon was threaded through, gathered and tied in a knot or bow. So it was both functional and decorative. Today it’s usually just a decorative element.ReplyCancel
