Double Tailed Bow

Hi there blog friends!!!  I’m so excited because I have a new bow to share made using my Peg Bow Maker!!!  This was originally one of those things that went wrong and I kept looking at it and really, really liked it.  After a couple of days of testing it out, I figured out how to make it consistently and can share it with you on a video.  Now it’s an elegant, decadent looking bow, but then you’re not surprised, are you?  Okay, so I pulled together a quick sample card to show you what the bow looks like.

About the card…I dug out this round medallion originally made by K and Company.  Of course it was something I hoarded, until it was no longer current and I had completely forgotten about it – why do I do that??!!?   I’ll list it in my recipe but you probably cannot find these medallions.  Heck it was so old that the resin had yellowed — in fact, I had to distress the matching paper with Antique Linen Distress Ink.   But, it perfectly matched the ribbon I wanted to use to make the sample card, lol. This is a 5″ x 7″ card that I included two matted layers.  I glued on the medallion, added the bow and at the bottom, my sentiment by Quietfire Design (a new one) called The Doors We Open and Close.  How true is that?

SUPPLIES I USED
Stamps: Quietfire DesignThe Doors We Open and Close
Paper:  K and Company, Strathmore Acrylic, Bazzill
Ink: Stormy Sky Distress Ink, Antique Line Distress Ink
Accessories: Martha Stewart Photo Punch, K & Company Medallion, Ribbon

After a year online, this video was retired. I spent a year perfecting the bows and techniques and remade all the videos into a collection I’m really proud of. This particular bow is now tied very differently after I refined the technique. The collection can be found on the DVD that accompanies the professional looking version of the bowmaker – HERE.

This was a fun make today – time goes fast when I have the music on.  I was up early and me and my ipod were in concert in the studio this morning, lol – oh, and we were hot!!  In fact, Rascal Flatts and I messed up a couple of sheets of pricey cardstock this morning because we got carried away.  It’s a little know fact that I sing all the time.  I’m sure for some people it’s horrible, but I can’t help it – my husband must have learned how to tune me out because he never said anything.  I am that lady in the car next to you who is definitely singing and bopping and the only way I’d be embarrassed is if you heard me.   To this day I don’t know how people walk around with head sets on, listening to music, without having to tap their feet or sing?  And I listen to everything…in the studio it’s Rascal Flatts or Journey, in the car it’s Casting Crowns, in the house it’s Usher or Michael Buble, in the shower it’s . . . well, you get the picture.  Every where music, every kind of music.

So who or what are you singing today?

I have some low key candy I’m going to give out today if you are brave enough to leave a comment and tell me us :-)  I have some 12×12 sheets of double sided dreamy Prima paper (10 of them I think) that will go out to one winner.  I’ll pull a random name on Friday, how about that?

I woke up with this morning with a song in my head and had it “singing” in my mind all the way to drop off my middle schooler…thinking, “I sure home I can get this out of my head by the time I get home.” And now, that you ask this question, I can’t remember! Mind over matter – guess it works! Have a great day, Becca!ReplyCancel

I love your cards!! You are one of the most creative individuals whose postings I look forward to as an inspiration. Your bows are so adorable and they truly add that special touch to all of your cards. What if you don’t have
access to a peg board that you’ve designed? What would be the next best option in order to create what you’ve done? Can’t wait to see your next posting! Mahalo!!ReplyCancel

An interesting bow idea. I love the way everything blends together. Most mornings I am singing in my head (wouldn’t dare sing it aloud though cause I am surrounded by all male family members) are the hymns that have been sung in church the previous Sunday. Our church has a wonderful song leader who really lets his love of the Lord shine. It gets me thru many a time dealing with my husband and sons. Heehee! Thanks Becca for all that you do.ReplyCancel

Lovely card! While driving my niece to preschool this morning I was listening to Laurie Berkner’s CD. Love her music & so fun to sing along to. :) Then after I dropper her off I changed cds & started listening to The Who. What a great way to start the day – googleheads & pinball wizards. :)ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca –

Oh I love this card! The sentiment is just so wonderful and your bow, yummy! And as for music, I see you are a kindred spirit, my husband unfortunately is not as sweet as your husband was. When I sing at home (all the time) he loves to come downstairs and say “Are you feeling alright dear, I thought I heard you groaning?” Comedian!!
This morning on the way into the office, in the pouring rain, I was singing along with Bruno Mar’s “Grenade” . Heck, I was bouncing around in the car, seat dancing (you know, when your body bops and sways with your butt in on the car seat – LOL)? I happened to be at a stop light at a very dramatic moment in the song and I was acting out the song, when I glanced over and saw a man watching me and laughing. Well I’m glad I made his day – LOL!

I’m in love with your new bow, Becca! Sitting tight wating for the video :-) Oh, I’m generally not a singing person, it’s a very, very rare occasion when I’d start following the lines of a song; mostly when I hear some dear to my heart 80-s disco songs :-)ReplyCancel

Oh I am so glad that I am not the ONLY one who BEE BOPS in the car!!! I drive a Mini Van and I am always toting my 3 girls around and as you can imagine there is PLENTY of WHINE so I turn the radio up…My CD player is broken and it is an old van so an MP3 is not easily adaptable so I crank our local Christian Radio up…(Although I LOVE the 80’s too) Lately it seem like Franchessca Battestelli ??? gets me acting the silliest in the van…I am sure that people around me just think I am crazy…Or talking on the phone (which I do not do while driving) I never see anyone else “jammin” in their cars so I always feel awkward…but I LOVE music too much to not move to it…

Since I am at work all day we usually listen to the radio and the song that always brings a smile to my face is “What’s Love Got to do With It” by Tina Turner. My son used to ride his big wheel to the top of the driveway at his grandparents’ house and then race as fast as he could down the drive way singing that at the top of his lungs. That memory never fails to bring a smile to my face! Thanks for the memory and the inspiration! Have a blessed day!ReplyCancel

  • Betty GoodsonMarch 16, 2011 - 10:28 am

How lovely. A new bow that I probably can’t tie, I’m sooooo bow challenged. Yours are alway elegant. I almost always add ribbon somewhere but not nearly as creative as yours. I sing in my car, or when I’m home alone, which is not so oftern. If I watch an old musical, which I did this week, a song will get stuck in my head, and I’ll sing it until something replaces it. We sing in our Sunday Bible Class and sometimes a song will be with me all week from there also. I don’t think you can be unhappy while you’re singing so it’s good therapy.ReplyCancel

Love your cards. Looking forward to the video.

I love music and have loaded alot onto my computer in my stamp room. I have my top 25 favorites that I usually play. It’s a big variety so I don’t get bored. As far as singing out loud…well, I was damaged in 6th grade by a boy named Lee. He stopped the class and told the teacher I was singing flat. Can you believe that. I was so excited too because we were practicing for our Christmas service. Needless to say I mouthed the songs from then on. I still sing in my head though! Lee can’t take that away from me!!!!!ReplyCancel

    Hey Becca,

I share your sentiments on singing and music everywhere, all the time. I have a gazillion songs on my computer and I play them all day while I’m at work. The radio’s always on in the car and I sing constantly all throughout the day. My husband says to me all the time that he can’t believe I know the words to so many songs, but I do and if I don’t I find the lyrics on my computer. I hate to hear anyone sing the wrong words to song, particularly one of my favs. I sing so much I can’t tell you what song it is. Just know that there’s always music in my heart and a song on my lips!

Have a great day and thanks for the new bow video.ReplyCancel

I listen to mostly country, and I love the female artists like Carrie Underwood and Martina McBride. But right now my favorite CD in my car is my Disney CD. I love the songs on their from Pocaontas, Beauty in the Beast and Little Mermaid!

Oh and by the way….I have a couple of those medallions too that I’ve been hoarding. They are SOOooooo-so pretty. I’m sure I picked them up at Michael’s at one point in a clearance bin! I’m saving them for something special — I just haven’t come across that “special” occasion yet! LOL!!ReplyCancel

Good morning Becca on this fine sunshiny day! I love the big band era of music. My Dad listened to this music all the time so I grew up on it. My comfort music is smooth jazz. Love to work listening to itunes smooth jazz stations. Here, in Oklahoma, we have a lot of country western. I like the more “modern” country western in the car. The love ballads from the 80’s were some of my favorite songs. I guess if I had to pick a most favorite it would be any song by Michael Buble or Celine Dion.

Hi Becca! I had to laugh at your singing story. I guess I’m sort of like that too… singing along with my music… and like you I like many different kinds of music. Here’s my “fuuny”… my husband and I have found that Michaels has the best music playing in their stores. Now usually he’s with me as I shop since I’m visually impaired and can’t drive there myself, but once in a while if he has an errand to run, he will leave me there to look on my own and when I’m by myself, I always seem to find myself singing along with the music and then I come to myself and realize there are other people going by who might be listening to me! LOL!! But, to name a few favorites that I enjoy listening to, that would be Elvis, Anne Murray, Celine Dion and many, many others… yeah… I prefer music from times past for the most part… back when there was real music.ReplyCancel

OMGosh Love that bow and that organdy bow is so dreamy. Just have to try this. Thanks for another wonderful tutorial.
Although I always have a song in my heart and in my head I don’t sing out loud unless I am sure there is no one within ear shot. I always think “Make a joyful noise on to the Lord” but I was not blessed with a voice meant for singing and I don’t have the heart to torture anyone with it but when I’m alone like in the car and with the windows up I SING. DH followed me home one day and said he thought I was having a spell. It does feel good to let it out.

Love the new bow! Can’t wait to give it a try.

What am I singing today? I don’t the name of the song, but I first heard it way back when on the Andy Griffith Show. Here are the words:

    You get a line
    I’ll get a pole,
    Honey

    You get a line
    I’ll get a pole,
    Babe

    You get a line

    We’ll go down
    to the fishing hole
    Honey, Baby Mine!ReplyCancel

I love your bow – and your question about the music makes me laugh! My husband is always teasing me and telling the grandkids “your Nana is in the kitchen dancing again”. I sing and dance to all kinds of stuff but today when I read this it was “Love to Lay You Down” by Conway Twitty. When this song first came out I was young and was singing and did not even think about what it meant (or could even possibly mean). I was in the kitchen with my Mom and all of a sudden when I was walking by singing she swatted me right square on the bottom and said “that is the filthiest song I have ever hear and I don’t want to hear you sing that again!” And all I could say was “what” in a very surprised voice. I have never forgotten the song or what she said – and the memory still makes me grin or even laugh out loud because I know if she was still here she would still probably swat me!ReplyCancel

The bow is just gorgeous! I would like to make a peg bow maker as it looks easier than my bow-easy. Of course the Bow-Easy has the benefit of being flat so I can bring it along when I stamp with friends!

What thrilled me today was your comments about singing. I LOVE to sing and I sound TERRIBLE, lol! Luckily (I choose to think of it that way) I now live alone with my two cats. When I start belting out a tune they both come running to wherever I am and sit down to watch the show! They don’t care if I’m flat and they make a great audience, except for their expressions which are more “what on earth is she doing?” than admiration, lol!!!!ReplyCancel

Good Morning Becca! I love your tutorials because I truly can follow and make sense of what you are teaching. Your voice is calm and assuring to me as well! I run my CD’s over and over it seems but have many and varied tastes as well but recently I have been listening to Sugarland. I like the twang in Jennifer’s voice for some reason it’s a little quirky and that appeals to me. Maybe call it sassy?

I’m with you, Becca. How can anyone not respond physically to music? I’m singing, swaying, dancing. I’m the other lady in the car next to you belting it out! When we married, my husband said he didn’t like musicals because they weren’t realistic. He said people didn’t just go around singing. Well, he’s changed his mind on both scores. He knows that some people do just go around singing and he likes musicals!ReplyCancel

I believe that music gets into your soul just like the other arts do. It brings out creativity that we wouldn’t normally experience. It can be soothing, or inspiring. It can help us focus, and make us braver than we otherwise might be.

Hi Becca! I was wondering who that crazy lady in the car next to me was!!
(Just kidding…I was looking in the mirror at MYSELF!!)
I’m always singing in my head….rarely out loud…my voice is awful and I know it! BUT, music is a huge part of my life (I play the violin), so I love it!
Casting Crowns is a fave of mine too…usually in the car!
The only bad thing about having music go through my head constantly is that whatever I hear last sticks…whether it’s a hymn from church (GOOD), or a commercial from the tv before I go to bed! (BAD)
I will wake up in the morning with that ditty floating through my head and realized that I’d been mentally humming/singing it over and over all night!!
Sometimes I even make sure I have hymn going through my head before I fall asleep so that it will be primary in my thoughts….usually works too!
I love your bow and your bow maker….I think I’m going to have to get the supplies to make one…bows are the perfect ending to any card, and yours especially!
Thanks so much for giving us such easy to follow directions too…sometimes people try but leave out such things as how to hold the ribbon or snip the ends to keep it easy.
Blessings to you…I still pray for you!!!

At work I listen to itunes, radio, Gospel Hamony Mix. Keeps me happy all day!!
At home in the craft room, I only have a CD player, so right now I’ve been listening to Yanni. His music is dreamy and I feel very creative with it on.
Singing? Not anymore. I used to sing in a lot of differnet groups at chuch but had breast cancer 13 years ago and for some reason the chemo affected that part of my body. Through Jesus Christ I overcame cancer so I praise Him for that, and now I sing in the Spirit.

so gald to see the “bow peg in action” now that I see how it works I will have to make one.
I love all kinds of music , from my age the 80’s to current, we went to a wedding last week and everyone was suprised to see that I knew all the songs and dances to all of them. last year my husband worked out of state and my kids ( 20,21,24,25) moved into their own apartment ( yeah they WERE best of friends ,18 months later they are finding their own places in may lol.) so I was on my own and had much more time to make cards I was blog hopping and listening to everyones music that would come on so my music really started opening up I would stay up all night making cards and singing. I think the type of music Im listening to really decideds what direction my card will take . So glad to see Im not the only one who bopping around in my car.lol have a good one Becca and all of u in cyber spaceReplyCancel

Thanks for sharing the newest item ;) As for music, my heart soars when I listen to Herbie Mann’s Jazzill Brazz. Jazz just puts me in such a creative mood. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous bow technique and I am so glad to hear somebody else sings- I thought it was just me- I don’t have a particular favourite but I sing along with whatever is on the radio wherever I am – I get up and the radio is on and the last thing I do before I go to sleep is turn it off, I also listen to CD’s of various songs whatever I happen to grab-country,gospel,modern,musicals,retro it doesn’t matter I listen to it all- I hate silence in this respect -the problem for everyone around me is I think I am tone deaf so they just put up with it now.LOLReplyCancel

LOVE your new bow! Thanks for sharing. That’s hilarious that you sing all the time—I do too! Or, hum or whistle. The only problem with humming or whistling is I only hit about every 3rd note, because I’m “singing” in my head. I love gospel music: Gaithers, Guy Penrod, Steve Green, etc.ReplyCancel

And our taste in music runs the same – I have everything from Casting Crowns, and Third Day to Rascal Flatts to Journey to Mike Buble’ to Pavarotti to Prince and everything in between. Yesterday, I was walking to 80’s dance music – wow was that fun! lol It depends on my mood. Love, love love – the bow technique and the colors in your card. Gosh, it’s been about 3 days since I’ve turned the computer on – I’ve had “Becca withdrawal” – so I’m glad to be catching up with all the beautiful cards. I love this bow, Becca! Outstanding.

For my 65th birthday last year, my music teacher daughter burned 5 CD’s and also downloaded the music into my MP3 player – so I have a lot of my favorites in the car and at home. I was listening to Bette Midler “From a Distance” on my way to work this morning – and I been humming – singing – that song all day long….

Just aside comment, if you will permit me- in regards to
an item I found that works just like your peg bow.

    At Michaels I found a white 9″ x 1 7/8″ board with 13 sets of holes
and 5 small dowels. It was with the wooden letters. The dowels are suppose to be inserted into the matching wooden letters to
spell a name etc and then inserted into the board. (I didn’t get the letters). The cost of the board with the dowels was $1.80 with a 40% off coupon. The regular pricewas $2.99. Thanks!!ReplyCancel

Oh Becca your bow is sooooo amazing, and I just LOVE it. Thanks god for all your small accidents this way ha ha ha. And your card is amazing too. Also just love that medaillon, so a shame, it´s not available anymore, but will just try and find something else to use like it.
I always loves to sing too. I know, I have a horrible voice, but I also know, that it´s said, that every bird sings with it´s own beak, so I admit, I sing, when I feel for it. Then my husbond sometimes can come and ask, if there´s anything he can do for me, cause he was afraid, something had gone terribly wrong, since I was moaning soo loud LOL. But at least my grandkids just loves to hear me sing, and often asks me to sing this or that for them ha ha ha. These days it´s a brand new song, I can´t get out of my head, as we had our local contest here in my country this saturday for the Eurovision songcontest, and one of tose has just got into my head soo bad, I can´t get it out again LOL, so I sure hope, it wins in the big contest. I´m sorry I can´t remember the words or the title, but the tune just keeps on and on in my head and I´ve been humming it ever since he he he.
I hope, you´ll all have a wonderful week ahead with lots of song and music in your lifes, as it makes us to happy persons.ReplyCancel

Music has the most amazing ability to raise the spirits and I find myself praising God in songs and hymns more and more.

Last month I would have said my favorite music was from Phantom of the Opera as my children were in their high school performance of that wonderful play. All the kids were so amazing- people could not believe they were teens as their voices are so mature. For at least a week afterwards the songs were playing through my mind. Wonderful idea for a double bow. Thanks for the tutorial. Thought you might get a chuckle from knowing that I use your tutorials for short exercise periods during the day. I work from home and when I need a break, I click on one of your tutorials and get on my step machine and exercise while I learn from you! See all the good your tutorials are doing! :)ReplyCancel

Wow, I have spent the entire day looking at all the wonderful artwork by the designers and members of “Our Daily Bread Designs” thanks for the wonderful tutorial! You are a fantastic teacher! I signed up to become a member after I completed the hop, I looked at the wonderful stamps and offerings on your store front, and watched your slideshow on the gallery pages! The element that stood out on your cards were the beautiful bows you tie! I am overwhelmed at their beauty! Thanks so very much for sharing your talent with us. God Bless You and your family Becca. I will be coming back often. I don’t know anybody that lives near me that makes cards but have found so many talented artists in the Blog-a-sphere and you ladies are at the TOP of my list!ReplyCancel

I rarely sing out loud, not even in Church, but music is always running through my head. Usually it’s what I’ve heard last, though ZipADeeDooDah crops up every once in a while out of the blue. I saw Song of the South when i was very young and moviegoing was an infrequent occasion for me. I just loved the ‘bluebird on my shoulder.’ That scene with Uncle Remus walking down the road is about all I remember of the movie and it will probably never be shown again in today’s world. I can’t even tell you what the gist of the moral was. Overall, though, I’m awed by the wonderful lyrics to music that have been created…what poets the lyricists are. I guess I admire music too much to ruin a good thing by singing out loud. LOLReplyCancel

I love to listen to anything by Terry MacAlmon. His music is so soothing to my soul. It helps me to drown out the “noise” of the world. I am currently listening to his “The Sound of Heaven” cd.

    Your bows are amazing!ReplyCancel

I love Willie Nelson … anything Country. Living in North Dakota, in the heartland of America, surrounded by wheat fields and ranches, country music is what we hear whenever we tune into any radio station, and it soon grows on you.ReplyCancel

First, what a beautiful bow and awesome tutorial. As for music, I loved Journey when I was in high school and I still love them. Sammy Hagar is what I listen to when I have “attitude” and currently my favorite song by Casting Crowns is East to West…. that song helps heal my soul. :)ReplyCancel

I watched your tutorial over and over on making a peg bow. I finally mastered the bow, but not the dowel stand, yet! I was snowed in when I was trying to learn to tie the bow. I had to improvise, so I used two clothes pins clamped to a box. It was not as secure as the dowels would be, but it worked. These bows are so pretty.

I love your site and have it in my favorites. Your cards are beautiful and I love the inspirational quotes you have. Looking at your blog is one of the high lights of my day!ReplyCancel

Becca I just made your new bow and I love it. I didn’t have the dowel stand yet so I asked my husband if he would make me one. He looked at yours and your instructions and made mine. He was so impressed with your handy work particularly with the fact that you offset one peg hole by an inch and a half! Thanks so much for your tutorial.ReplyCancel

    Dear Becca,
I love this elegant card and the scrumptious (spelling?) bow…. I’m a bit intimidated by the thought of trying to make it though!

For music – I simply looooooooooove all kinds of music – country, bluegrass, pop, rock, R&B … my iPod is my constant companion when I’m stamping! One of my all-time favorites are Alison Krauss and Union Station…love her voice, their music and can’t wait for their new CD to come out in April!ReplyCancel

The bow is quite interestingly. I’ll have to give it a try. As to music, I only get to hear Elmo these days. It’s amazing how many one word songs he can sing. All with the same music.ReplyCancel

My absolute favorite music to listen to is my husband playing his arrangements of hymns on the piano. He mixes lots of runs, scales, arpeggios & chords into gorgeous arrangements that I never tire of hearing.

I bought the supplies to have my husband make the peg bow board. Now to get it made. Hopefully this weekend. :) Off to watch your tutorial.ReplyCancel

Thanks for sharing your double bow tutorial! I usually sing along to old time gospel music but today I have “Elmo wants to be a chicken, Elmo wants to be a duck, click, cluck, cluck!” stuck in my head!ReplyCancel

Becca- I so appreciated this tutorial- well, all of yours!!! I had made a ribbon holder a few years back- a piece of wood with a 3′ dowel rod stuck in. I ended up not using it for long for it’s intended purpose, but I saved it. Yeah- I drilled a few more holes, cut the dowel into pieces and made a double bow. I turned out beautifully, even though the only wide ribbon I had on hand was wired. The result was perfect and I used it on a gift box. If you want to see the box I made, look up tlgirl353 on SCS. Thanks you so so much!ReplyCancel

I’ve been singing the primary song “I trying to be like Jesus”, it’s on a cd that I liston to in the car. I guess I’m going to have to see if I can drill straight and make myself a peg board for bows. I have a hand drill left from Girl Scout leader days so I’ll see how it goes. While watching the tutorial I realized why my fingernails are always broken. Why don’t I dig out my tweezers, it makes things so much easier.ReplyCancel
