Day of Giving Friday: Happy April Fools

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - The Origin of Love and Spellbinders Pierced Rectangles, Spellbinders Oval Regalia, Spellbinders Cinch and Go Flowers - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweet friends.  I’m wishing you a Happy April Fools Day, but my hope for you today is that you’re nobody’s fool. :-)  I also hope some of my regional friends are out of harms way with the crazy weather we’ve had lately.  I’m sure you wonder how I come up with the Friday question; so often it’s something that has happened in my life or been talked about this week.

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Quietfire Design - The Origin of Love and Spellbinders Pierced Rectangles, Spellbinders Oval Regalia, Spellbinders Cinch and Go Flowers - www.amazingpapergrace.com

This week
. . . my brother became a grandfather with the first grandchild in our family!  As I talked to my children and friends we mused how things have changed over the generations.  I was a pretty strict mom and lo and behold, my kids (who are in their late twenties) have all come back to say thanks for sticking to my guns even though at the time I was not very popular.  I’m tickled as I watch my kids save money and make homes to hopefully one day welcome children – I feel like they’re planning for the long haul.  The most comical thing that’s the essence of being a parent, is when I hear my words come out of their mouths!!

How It’s Made
For my card today – this my simple classic card that’s a go-to on so many occasions.  It’s simply cream and gold layered with Spellbinders Pierced Rectangles.  On top of that I layered Spellbinders Oval Regalia.  In the crook of the oval I placed three Spellbinders Cinch and Go Flowers (easy to place because they are built on wire and wrapped together – tutorial HERE).    Digging through my sentiment stash, I found a sentiment by Quietfire Design – The Origin of Love – I don’t think I’ve every used this before and it simply tickled my heart.

About Day of Giving Friday
This card is up for grabs today to one of my sweet readers.  Every Friday, I give away a card to a randomly picked reader who leaves a comment in our conversation. Want to know more about Day of Giving, here’s a link to my FAQ’s just check out #11.     For your comment today – Give me a one liner – As parents, our duty to our children is ….

Such a beautiful sentiment and very apt for Eastertide. My duty to my four children was to teach them that you achieve nothing unless you take that first tentative step. I’m so proud of the four of them and I can see my grandchildren starting to be the same. The eldest so eager to join the police force.ReplyCancel

Your card is simply sweet and does look easy. That is one I’ll remember. Love the cinch and go flowers. Easy to make, except for arthritic fingers sometimes. As a parent and now a grandparent of 9, this is a difficult question to answer. The transition from the guiding, teaching and disciplining of my 5 children meant that I had to take a step back and defer to my children as they raised theirs. My tongue has many bite marks in it. But the answer would be, now that I see that my children are raising their children as I raised them, is; “be consistent and defer to God”. The guidelines for morality, respect and trust are all in the 10 Commandments. No parent needs anything more than lots of love and patience.ReplyCancel

Gosh, it’s Friday again already. I’m sure there are now fewer than 24 hours in each day, otherwise why are they disappearing so quickly? ….. lol! I don’t have children myself but looking back to my own wonderful parents – they continually showed their love for me and my siblings. That is the major thing that comes back to me all the time – love, love, love! Enjoy your visitors. Hugs Christine xxReplyCancel

As a parent, and grandparent, I felt my duty was to raise children with positive self esteem, to teach them to be independent and self sufficient, to take responsibility for their choices, have respect not only to others but for themselves, to have hope and faith and joy, to have laughter and fun and to appreciate the wonders of life and nature, the importance family and giving is so much more rewarding than receiving, and most importantly to give them unconditional love.
Enjoy your company and have a lovely week!ReplyCancel

Our duty to our kids is always to treat others, how they wish others to treat them, and I´ve always tryed to teach them, that there´s two things in lfe that can really get to me, and that´s lying and stealing, and it would be the worst they could ever do to me, if they did any of those things, and thanks god it seems they´ve taken it in, as my youbngest has just turned 30, and we´ve never had any of this at all with any of them.ReplyCancel

Great go to card to have in ones stash and this one is beautiful. I have to say that my hubby and I got engaged on this day 52 yrs ago funny as it may be. Still going strong with our love for each other and still learning what it means to put the other first! Of course there’s so many balances in the job of raising children but first and foremost is the model of us loving each other. With that comes maturity in the child. No better foundation planned by God for the child’s benefit.ReplyCancel

    The card is really beautiful……

Do you find occasionally that you need to “shim” some of the dies to get them to cut around the whole die. I am currently experiencing the die not cutting the paper, tried different papers & have run back and forth, tried a simple shim. The problem is only with my Spellbinders dies. Could my machine (a Cuttlebug) not be compatible with Spellbinders more intricate lines or could the darned thing have just run out of steam….it still works perfectly with other dies.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, This is a truly beautiful card, with a truly beautiful sentiment.
I had to chuckle at your post “The most comical thing that’s the essence of being a parent, is when I hear my words come out of their mouths!!” – I know exactly what you mean. I find that I say things that my Mum used to say to me, and in turn, I find that my Daughter says the same things to her children. It proves that we all listen haha, and I find it really endearing.
I have always tried to show my children the best ‘paths’ to take and to hopefully give them a solid foundation, and to always show respect to others, and to let them know that, no matter what, I will always be there for them.
Lots of love from Patricia xxReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
Beautiful card. As parents, our duty to our children is to be present, caring, nurturing, guiding, and engaged while we discern what they need. At the same time we have to keep growing ourselves so we always have more to give.
(P.S. What time of day do you post? I always seem to miss the Friday date. I must come by too early.)ReplyCancel

Your card is gorgeous. For me it is to teach my children to be responsible and about God. I want them to grow up to be happy, well adjusted, young ladies.ReplyCancel

Love this card Becca. The important thing for my children growing up was to always be honest and to treat others as you would have them treat you. They knew we were always there for them and a lot of times for their friends.ReplyCancel

Your card is gorgeous and I love that saying. My only daughter was murdered in 2000 and this quote has helped to give me some peace. I miss her so very much
