Day of Giving Friday: The Greatest Revelation

Happy Friday Gracelets!!  I’ve been on vacation and was so blessed to get to see my grown kids.  We had a bit of an eventful holiday but I’m moving on and continue to count my blessings.  It seems we only have the opportunity to get together during sad occasions and we so felt we needed some family bonding time.  It had not been possible before because of everyone’s work schedules but this was the perfect opportunity to get together on Memorial Day as a joyful rememberance of their Dad.  We did lots of family activities and one that was so fun was an escape room.  It was hilarious – our task was to break out of jail and that we did.  In the meantime, I worked on a card using classic Spellbinders S4-504 Arched Elegance and Spellbinders S4-503 Arched Elegance Pocket.  I selected a wonderful new Quietfire Design sentiment to go along with it called The Greatest Revelation.   Cards don’t get any simpler that this!!

I started out with a card base 5-1/2″ x 7-1/2″.  I then added a cream panel with a mat.  On top of that I added two of the half circles cut from the Arched Elegance Set (adhered with a double layer of foam tape).  I stamped my sentiment, cut it out and matted it with the matching colors from my card.  For the inside of my card I simply added the same matted layers as I had on the outside of the card and adhered Arched Elegance Pocket to the matted layer.  This is an opportunity to include a picture, a verse or simply another piece of cream card stock that you’ve written the contents of your note on.

Hmmm… family activity? We don’t do them often. One I really enjoyed was going to a winery up by my daughter’s house. It was a former monastery. Very interesting place to look around and we all enjoyed the day.ReplyCancel

Best family activity was the family reunion with relatives on my father’s side in Kentucky. Most of my aunts and uncles are deceased, but it was a wonderful to be able to see my cousins, some of whom I hadn’t seen in 50 years!ReplyCancel

So glad you were able to have some family time. That is so important. Lovely card today. We did an abstract paint party for my husband’s 65th birthday and had great fun. As my grandchildren are littte (2,3,4 and 5), is was perfect for everyone to participate in. Love looking at the picture that we made and remembering the fun we had. Have a great weekend.ReplyCancel

  • ANN ROBBINSJune 2, 2017 - 12:08 pm

    Hi Becca,
Very nice card! Glad you got to spend time with your family. Family time is so important. Three years ago, my sister came to Florida to have Christmas with my family. Although her 2 kids and their families were not here, it was a wonderful time and each year we go up there and spend time with them. So there really doesn’t need to be a reason – it’s just family time together.
    Hugs

Wonderful card Becca – you do such lovely work! A few months before my husband slipped to Heaven in Oct. 2016, family got together and shared pictures and time together…what a blessing for each of us to share fun memories together! That too now is a treasured memory.

My Dad died when he was only 49 and my Mom has made sure every year we had a family reunion. All those reunions have been the best of times! My Mom died last year and we are having a family reunion in her honor this summer!ReplyCancel

  • Christine MillerJune 2, 2017 - 12:40 pm

Oh, my, except for funerals, they are all happy occasions! Last summer, we lost a family member all too early, and that caused us to plan a quick reunion for the following spring. I think there was an urgency due to the circumstance that spurred us to quit procrastinating and get together. Everyone brought scrapbooks (and sometimes boxes of loose photos) to peruse, we ate together, and visited until the wee hours. So much fun!!!!ReplyCancel

As usual you´ve just made such a beautiful card here Becca.
And I´m sooo glad, that you had the chance to keep up with your family, even it wasn´t the best occasion maybe, but at least you got to see each other a bit, which is good.
My best memory about a family get together is probly when my granddadf held his second Silver wedding(first wife dies, and he remarried and got another silverweddding) cause then he had invited everyone that were in our really huge family, but it was the only time, I can remember we were all there (89 people) the same time, and it was sooo cool.ReplyCancel

I have been following a lady on YouTube who is very attentive to the inside of her cards and have taken up the cause! Your card is delightful and, most important to me at this time, gives a new dimension to “inside the card” creativity. Thanks, Becca!ReplyCancel

Last summer we rented a house on Lake Michigan for a week. We told the kids to come and go as their schedules allowed but they all came for the whole week! We had a blast blueberry picking, swimming, biking, hiking, boating, reading, games, food….great memories for all.ReplyCancel

  • Sandy ArtmanJune 2, 2017 - 2:31 pm

    Hi, Becca,
This is the perfect card for me today because, having just used the Arched Elegance dies for my projects this week, you’re inspiring me to make a beautiful medallion as you show here. I might have thought of using the die that way, but I doubt it!

As for family activity, what comes to mind is my twin sister’s athletic family played “corn hole” at a family picnic. We learned a whole other side of otherwise mild-mannered people when there was competition involved. It was pretty wild, fun and quite revealing!
After quite awhile of creative drought, I’ve been bitten by the card-making bug. Enough of this work stuff, I want to stay at home and make beautiful things. The summer hiatus from my choral activities is coming at the perfect time! Many of my APG dies haven’t seen the light of day-I predict that is gonna change, soon.
I so appreciate you and all the gifts you share.
    Love & blessings
    SandyReplyCancel

I love this card. It’s a card for all seasons, reasons and guys & dolls. It’s a ‘must do’ future project. With my family spread out all over the U.S.A. and our islands, getting ALL together is a major undertaking but we’ve been able to focus on spring time and make it an annual Easter celebration with church worship first and then fun and feasting. Games seem to be focused on the very young and very ‘old’ with egg hunts, scavenger hunts, jump ropes (oh mercy!), potato sack races and so much more wacky games. If you didn’t die from exhaustion it was from laughter. This is what family is all about.ReplyCancel

  • DeborahJune 2, 2017 - 3:36 pm

We’ve had family reunions with my mother’s side of the family (and she comes from a BIG family!) My cousin from Colorado would come to St Louis and rent a big recreation/lounge room for the occasion. My mother’s ancestry is Russian, so everyone brought the Russian dishes we all loved. It was great listening to my male cousins talk about how they followed my uncles around everywhere (when they were youngsters!), because it was during WWII, and they were so impressive in their uniforms. Such a wonderful time to see everyone!ReplyCancel

  • Karen M. RothJune 2, 2017 - 4:04 pm

I love the blue on this card as it reminds me of the blue skies in the Summer.

The most fun activity I would have to say was the Weekly Meals we used to gather for. Then in second place would be the Girl’s Day out my two sweet sister-in-law’s and I have on the rare occasion. Then in third place, I would say the White Elephant Gift Game on Christmas.I am so going to miss the White Elephant Game after Ma Bear has gone to Heaven. We are celebrating her 90th Birthday on July 4th. Our Neice is taking her on a four-hour boat ride.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca, I always love your simple cards! This one is no exception. My family all live close so we see each other often. Some of the kids are still young, so it’s nice to see the big kids drop their electrical devices & join in on the fun. Special occassions are more special.

Blue and white is one of my favorite color combinations—so fresh and friendly! Sadly, my husband and I don’t have much family, just one single daughter and no grandchildren, so we cherish any shared times we have. The card is a lovely way to use the die set and I will have to make one soon.ReplyCancel

  • Anne(UK)June 2, 2017 - 6:40 pm

Stunning! Those colours really give a great, simple and stylish background to the sentiment.
What to choose is not easy! Maybe the visits to working farms when the children were small. They bottle fed lambs and petted the animals. I love looking at the photos!

This card is simply elegant – so useful. Our best ever family get-together was a week in Hong Kong two years ago. My husband was in the military and was posted to Hong Kong for three years in the 1980s, when the youngest was just 15 months old. Now everyone had partners and a very excited 7 year old daughter. We all had a wonderful time.

As always the card is beautiful Becca. Family gatherings always have a little pain in them but the love always rallies strong. The best was Christmastime (also my birthday) when my three children (now 59, 57, and 52) were young, we had a large home where most everyone in the family (usually 15-25 individuals) fit comfortably and enjoyed each other. Recently we had a family gathering my husband and I enjoyed tremendously- my daughter contrived a replica of our wedding reception 60 years ago. The afterglow of the event lasted for days. I have pictures posted on my facebook page.ReplyCancel

A lovely card that is elegant in its simplicity! I have a couple of special times together with family. When my husband turned 60, we had a party. All his children came so all his grandchildren were here along with my son and his family. Lots of love and laughter! This past September, we held a party to celebrate my Mom”s 85th birthday and her sister”s 80th birthday. Lots of family came, including my Dad”s 92 year old sister who I hadn’t seen in years. She surprised us all! The only person missing was my Dad. After 65 years of marriage, he is waiting in Heaven for a wonderful party full of rejoicing!ReplyCancel
