Day 23 – 30 Days of Giving

Card Making Ideas by Becca Feeken using Spellbinders Label and Accent along with Spellbinders Floral Assortment - www.amazingpapergrace.com
Good morning sweet friends, I have a new card to share this morning – Day 23 of the 30 Days of Giving.  A little bit of a different look for me with the bronze and cream.  The card size of 5-1/2″ x 6-1/2.  I set up a background panel using Spellbinders Framed Canvas.  On top I layered Spellbinders Floral Assortment and included the ‘hello’ from Spellbinders Sentiments 5.  I pulled two little elements from two new Sapphire Dies (teeny labels four shape and leafed flourish) – this one is called Label and Accent and it’s going to be available at www.Joanns.com.

Wow, Becca, this card is absolutely stunning! Sadly I don’t keep a handwritten journal, although I do type up travel journals while I am away for long periods and email them to my friends who have specifically asked me to include them.

a beautiful, beautiful card. I love how you put together so many different dies, a get gorgeous layouts, to inspire and bring joy.
I don’t keep a pacific journal. but do have notes on different studies I have taken. It is amazing how hand writing has changed, goes along with life’s situations in your life, and even age. I can see different emotions within the writings, and I am certainly not an expert….have a good day.ReplyCancel

Such a beautiful card and die. Thanks for sharing. I REALLY wish I kept a journal starting with the first day of marriage. My husband is always telling me I never ever cut the grass in the past and I never did such and such. If I kept a journal then I could show him in black and white that I did for many years. There were also some important things that I always thought I would remember every detail but can’t remember now. I wish I kept a journal of the things my mother and father told me about when they were young and about their family. Now there is no one on either side to gather this information. I am so sorry I didn’t do a journal.ReplyCancel

  • christiJuly 23, 2015 - 11:48 am

I have never kept a journal and don’t know if I ever will. back a zillion years ago, when I was a teen I had a diary. I was probably 12 or 13 when I first got it and I wrote things in it for a little while. that’s 2 days maybe three then for the next few days I wrote same thing … then maybe onece a month for a couple of months then I didn’t write anything in it for at least 4 years. I was going to get a new one but that one had only a few pages used and it was a different time of year. I thought for sure i’ll keep up with it … well reality is I did just about the same as the first time. I think when I finished college and was moving out I found it and read it and laughed at what I had written and how studious I had been in keeping up with it. at that point I threw it away. that may be the only thing I actually threw away with out nagging. I learned from that that I probably wouldn’t write in one again. so far so good after 35-40 yrs I haven’t started one. I pondered writing a book but that would turn into a short story as I would bore myself!

beautiful card today and those colors are awesome.ReplyCancel

  • Barbara WilsonJuly 23, 2015 - 11:49 am

I do not keep a journal. My Grandmother kept a dairy all of her life and her wish was that they would be destroyed when she died. My Uncle’s wife read through them. So if you want your thoughts private better keep them to yourself.ReplyCancel

Now for your question, I hate to tell you this – I hate reading anything I wrote in the past! I no longer journal at all! I have gobs of letters and journals from when I lived overseas and have, in fact, made plans to burn it all up this summer as soon as the burn ban is lifted out here!ReplyCancel

wow…really liking the bronze and cream…and the new dies…checking my wallet…sigh, nope, not yet! lOL. Nice card, Becca, Like this one…sends all kinds of ideas spinning off in my head! Thanks!
I don’t keep a journal much any more…indonhave the ones I used to keep, though. one thing I do notice as I (very occasionally) read back what I have written before…is how present I can feel back in the moment when I do read those kinds of things. A few months ago I was going thigh some old files and found some decades old things I had written when I made the decision to start seeking to adopt a child. I was a young pastor, single, but I knew I wanted a child…and so I started a file “Dear Daughter”. Little did I expect then I would be blessed with a son as well, and it took nearly 18 years to come to fruition, but I am so glad I have those letters now. I think I am going to pull them together, re-write them on vellum and create a book for her for Christmas. At the present, she is 18 and has been unsafe for herself and for us to live at home for over three years. Giving thanks for her, passing the written word along….
    Thanks again Becca….JoniReplyCancel

This card is beautiful. It actually looks like leather and lace. I kept a journal for almost a half of a year. I started it January 1, 2000. Y2K, remember that? Hah! Something bad happened in one of the months and the joy of journaling was lost for the remainder of the year. But, what was there seemed to be full of family and food. Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, all kinds of celebrations. I described what we had at every meal. Back then a meal wasn’t served unless it had homemade biscuits or cornbread. We are an eating family when we get together. It was fun to remember.ReplyCancel

I´m blown away once again with the beauty in your gorgeous work here Becca. Such an awesome card, and as always just pure beauty.
Yes I have actually quite often read back through old journals, and also enjoyed it a lot, but not exactly my own handwriting, as I feel, it´s got worser over the years, where we don´t use handwriting much anymore. And today it´s a big problem, because I´m of the old school, where we use the old handwriting, and none of my grandkids can, and even my kids have problems reading this kind of writing, so when I writwe to them, I most times writ it on the computer and print it out then, but I think, it´s a biiig pitty, that the handwriting this way get lost, because of this, cause nothing can compare to a handwritten note. I don´t write journals anymore, only if it´s some of these funny expiriences with the grandkids, that I´ll love to remember later on in life, then I have a journalingbook, that I write those episodes down in, but else not, I´m afraid.ReplyCancel

I’ve kept a journal throughout all the years we’ve been married. It started out as a daily memo for all expenditures then I began adding notes of the daily happenings. Now it’s mostly for logging any craft purchases which especially helps when I need to do a price check on a craft item or two. Reading through these books causes moments of reflection of that day, the thoughts I was thinking or planning and I can remember exactly what was going on and why. It seems almost like yesterday.ReplyCancel

Hah! I have a journal I received maaaaannnnnyyyy years ago. It has one entry in it! I never even kept a diary in high school. What I used to do was scrapbooking in high school.
I found several books I had made in HS when we went to sell our home in IL. We had lived in that home for 32 years, purchased it brand new when our boys were very young. We were totally downsizing, & happened to sell our home in 4 days! The buyers wanted a quick closing, so we purged, purged, purged! Was unable to keep many things at that time in such a short time frame. Managed to keep a few pages from those scrapbooks before I got rid of them.
It was so interesting so look through those books! First of all, I didn’t remember making them. Secondly, I can’t believe how thorough I was in their design. (Think obsessive in this spot, lol) Yes, my taste has changed, and so have the tools & products available. But for a young person, they weren’t half bad! I do wish I could have saved more things in that move, but maybe it was for the best.ReplyCancel

  • ANN ROBBINSJuly 23, 2015 - 2:51 pm

    Becca,
No journal but look at different papers, etc. to see that really my handwriting hasn’t changed much. My mother was a stickler for penmanship and guess I couldn’t get away with much with her, so have always tried to maintain (Palmer method) perfect penmanship. It also helps sometimes when cardmaking at least with the signature if not used anywhere else on the card.
Yes, this is definitely a “little different” but you can still see the “Becca” style there, with the layers, frills and bow! Love the copper accent!

Yes! For years (since about the age of 15) I kept a spiritual journal recording my journey of faith. But, not long after my dear mom passed away I began to slack off on writing in it. Then I started homeschooling my 3 kids (2009) and have not written in it since! Time is an absolute luxury commodity in this season of my life. But I have on odd occasions read back through those pages and have seen the benefit of recording thoughts and prayers and experiences. I really must try and find time somewhere to jot down a few things. To think there’s a whole season of my life left unrecorded now! Another beautiful card with some really pretty new dies.ReplyCancel

    Hello Becca,
Your card today is really beautiful.
I used to keep a journal religiously, but in later years it’s more quick notes for each day. It’s funny but I was hunting for something last week and found a journal I’d kept when I was 14 and in a Sanatorium for a year. I read it and you know what, the memories flooded back and I was transported back. That was nearly 60 years ago!!!

Great card. Love the bronze and the “flap” on it. So different. As for a journal, I have never kept one and don’t have one now.ReplyCancel

I used to keep a journal and then I stopped. My journal was when I was very unhappy and no one to talk to you. I am happy now days….but I still read my journals to remind myself how far I have come.

    gorgeous card!ReplyCancel

WOW! Stunning card, so love the combination of colours on this one. Journal? Well I have to admit I have never done it but I did once look back on my old school books and thought my handwriting was better back then to now lol!

Lovely card. Great sentiment and flourish. I like the elongated look of the sentiment. It draws the eye.
I’m keeping a weight journal at the moment. Other than that, I have never kept a diary or journal as a young girl. Since my mother’s passing 2 years ago, the family has been cleaning the attic and we have found our grade school notebooks that my mother kept. My book was from the first grade;it was cursive writing. The letters are huge. Thanks for the memory.ReplyCancel

No I haven’t gotten into journaling. I tried to write in a diary when I was younger. I never wrote what I truly felt because I was always worried what if someone found it and read it. LolReplyCancel

  • Cyndy WJuly 23, 2015 - 4:14 pm

Yes, I keep journals. One for private thoughts, one for craft ideas yet to be made, and one for folks that I have made cards/projects for along with pictures etc to jog my memory. Couldn’t live without them personally. Something I have learned–positive thoughts make for much better reading later on so I save those thoughts and discard any negative ones I might write. Becca, this card is so striking–love the contrast and I’m gonna case this one for my sister’s birthday coming up! Thanks for the inspiration! :)ReplyCancel

  • Adaline CooperJuly 23, 2015 - 4:18 pm

Yes, I have read over some past journals and reading what was going on during that time in my life. Reading my high school journal was very funny to see how I was at that period in my life. No, I do not keep a journal now. Another beautiful card, Becca.ReplyCancel

Oh my goodness! I just totally love the card you made! It’s awesome!! I’ve never kept a journal. This year, back in January, I did start writing in a journal things I’m thankful for. I had the intention of daily, then it went to weekly, then….well you get the picture–LOL! I do still write in it occasionally. I think in time it will be interesting to go back and read what i’ve written. I’m sure enjoying your questions! :)ReplyCancel

What a stunning card! So original and a different style for you. Yes, I do keep a journal and I like reading back over it – not so much for taking note of my handwriting, though. Guess I will do that, now that you’ve mentioned it!ReplyCancel

I don’t journal, but I have started a notebook where I write all the quotes, sayings, and words that I have scribbled on bits and pieces of paper, thinking they would work well on cards. And I keep finding those bits and pieces of paper everywhere! The handwriting has definitely changed. I hope my daughters will one day enjoy reading thru it later in life.ReplyCancel

I have not kept a journal for many years, not since I was a little girl. I am not sure where they are, but I think it would be fun to read them. Every once in awhile, my mother finds something from my childhood, a card or a drawing, and it is always fun to try and figure out what I was thinking at the time they were created.ReplyCancel

Good afternoon Becca – Your new card is so sweet and lovely! I’m excited about the new Sapphire dies and happy to see an example created by you.
I haven’t kept a journal in the past but I am currently keeping one. I started this journal after my fall in early January of this year. This has been such a terrible accident but I’ve learned so much from it that I’ve wanted to be sure I didn’t forget this life adjusting event. At first, I was in such terrible pain that it was difficult to focus on anything but so many things were happening and I was experiencing so many emotions that i wanted to remember them. While I would never want to go through this again, I have learned a great deal about myself and my faith. I have serious potential health complications as a result of this accident so I’m especially thankful that I will be able to look back through my journal to remind myself of this journey and help me remember how much I have accomplished.
    Blessings to you.ReplyCancel

  • RonnyJuly 23, 2015 - 6:06 pm

I have done that, but not very much because I can’t seem to keep a journal for very long. I used to when a teenager and still have that(diary) somewhere, but it is so silly to read now about all the drama of boyfriends. Wouldn’t want my kids to read it! Another bit of journal I have was about the time my youngest was getting ready to leave home and be married. So interesting to read these things back after many years, don’t know why I can’t seem to be consistent at it.ReplyCancel

Ok now, time to win one of your lovely cards for the time is coming to a close end. Maybe tomorrow!!! No, I have never felt the joy of reading back through my own journal and seeing my own handwriting over the years. I am not keeping a journal these days and only in junior high school did I ever keep a diary. I distroyed it some thiry years later without ever rereading it. Sometimes the past needs to be left in the past.ReplyCancel

Hi Becca no I don’t keep a journal since I had to journal my daily goings on
during a nasty divorce and separation for the courts and police.
It was a bad case of domestic violence and strangely yesterday I came across
the paper work started to read it and forgot how bad it really was .
That’s because I have a good marriage now to a good man and have moved on!!!
scrapbooking is my way to journal now .
Your blog is such a good space and to read the other ladies notes is so uplifting
    and quite comical at times.
Love the new look wouldn’t matter what you do we love it XXX. Well done to the winners !ReplyCancel

What another beautiful card. I will be looking out for the new sapphire dies as they are so sweet. I tried starting a journal this past May as I turned 60, but then life got in the way. When I was a kid, I had a diary, but just about anything from my childhood is long gone. That’s by choice, as my childhood was not very happy. As far as journaling today, I had a Caring Bridge site for my late husband, and I have a blog, but of course those aren’t written by hand. I do know that my handwriting has deteriorated over the years, at least when I write for any length of time since my hand and arm fatigue quickly. Computers are much easier!ReplyCancel

No I do not keep a journal – probably because I do not like my own hand writing. I wish that I had though, as I think it is really a cool idea to keep for others to read when you are gone. My husbands grandmother kept one with entries only on the holidays and special occasions for over 20 yrs and it was so interesting to read. It is a cherished item in our house.ReplyCancel

Wow!!! This card took my breath away! Whatn incredible card!
I kept a diary many years go and have found it bittersweet at times. I have a kept a craft journal at all, or a life journal for years. I do you keep a journal on Sunday morning of notes at church. those are sometimes interesting to go back and read what was being preached, but also my own comments about my own life and my walk. It’s also proved helpful when we need a date of things that happened for the church! And you’re right back up, my handwriting has changed and morphed and changed back over the years.ReplyCancel
