Blogaversary – Add-on #5

Well, this is my last add-on for the Blogaversary as comments close down tonight at Midnight CST (as long as I’m awake, lol!).  Paint my face sad because this has been a lot of fun and it’s been good reading for me (and hopefully you) this week.  You all are fabulous and because of that you sure make blogging easy for me!  So, here is another trinket for the box!  Who can ever have enough buttons!  I put my most used colors into these little apothecary jars (4.5″ tall, from Hobby Lobby) and keep them within an arms reach.   Well there you have it!

I’m working on something in the studio today so I’ll be back soon.  I don’t know how the weather is where you are, but finally today here, it’s glorious outside.  I hope to be out there too for a while!!

Love buttons! You mentioned weather…my almond tree in blossoming and the bees are loving it! I live in Las Vegas NV and we ex pect rain for the next few days and cooler temps (around 50 degees). I like looking at pictures of snow, but I grew up in snow and have lived in southern NV for more than 30 yrs so I really like my mild winters and early springs. Love and warmth to all. -Mary KayeReplyCancel

I would choose my Tessa. She is my 6 pound Pomeranian. She’s always here for me. I cannot imagine heaven without my four legged friends.

  • Marge (mer)February 16, 2011 - 1:52 pm

A girl can never have too many buttons — they’re just like ribbon — no matter what ribbon in each style/color I have, there’s often not the right width, shade, finish to perfectly go with what I’m creating — same with buttons!!! LOVE this sweet little jar too & remember them from your previous post!!! Oh my, I think I may have missed commenting yesterday, so must go to your Blogaversary post right now. . .can’t wait to see what your glorious creation for today will be?!!!ReplyCancel

  • MarieFebruary 16, 2011 - 1:52 pm

I love buttons too, Becca. After the 2nd WW when times were hard here in the UK, my dear mother and grandmother would never throw any garment away unless the buttons had been removed first. While clearing out my mothers home we found several jars of buttons, some of them were the old rubber ones from liberty bodis garments, (does anyone remeber those – LOL!). Some were the stud buttons from mens shirt collars. In a strange way, they seemed like jars of memories and I couldn’t bare to throw them all away.

I’m digressing….Thank you! for another lovely ‘Giveaway’ xxReplyCancel

Snow…my 1 year old little Tootsie is mesmerized by it’s first site for her eyes. What a joy to see and feel with a tear in Grandma Tootsies eyes!
I have a special someone for your buttons Becca…
    Buttoning it up…
Within the last year I have been Thankful to transform my extra bedroom into my studio. While I was doing this I went through all of my supplies which left a box full…or 2! These were given to my 6 year old grand daughter, Toots’ sister, for her own. The creations have been limitless and she too is finding her “art of the heart”.

My grandchildren love playing with my buttons. I could just cry though, our daughters played with their grandmother’s buttons, when they were little, using them to decorate strawberry baskets. These buttons were all thrown away with the baskets. Thinking about this makes me cry because she had some buttons from her mother (which would have been from the 1850- 1899 era.). Great add on. I too am thankful for a small break in the weather. Tomorrow it is supposed to get up near 50 and I am SOOOO looking forward to it. Of course, it will be cold again over the weekend but we need this small promise of spring. As I have gotten older I really like winter less and less, but the rest of the year I love living where I live. It is interesting sometimes to realize what brings and then keeps a person in a particular area of the country (world).
Gratefulness for me encompasses where I live and all of the events that brought me to this spot. My family is truly a “Heinz 57” because we have so much variety in our ethnic backgrounds. It is amazing how God brought together people from so many areas of the world to form my family. Thank you, God!ReplyCancel

  • TrishaFebruary 16, 2011 - 5:18 pm

As a child, I, like many of you, played with old buttons. Strung onto a loop of string to be used as a noise maker toy, sewn onto sock dolls as eyes, used as lost playing pieces on board games or as even pirate booty. Who would have known that years later many of us would love another chance to play with Grandma’s cast-off buttons? Thank you Becca for taking us all back to our childhood; a place where a simple button could transform into a magical treasure.

I love the apothecary jars. I use them for buttons, gems, ribbons, and even just a couple empties on the shelf for visual interest. But I keep finding things to fill them up with. They also make a great place to put my new daubers . That way when I need a fresh one, they are in easy reach. Thanks Becca for your beautiful inspirations.ReplyCancel

Thank you for this opportunity to consider all the areas of my life that are blessed and that I am thankful for. • MiriamFebruary 17, 2011 - 12:42 am

There are so many things I am thankful for, but today, the blessng on my mind is my grand daughter, Lilianna, who turned 5 today. Last night, when her mother went into her room to kiss her goodnight, she found Lilianna sobbing into her pillow. When asked what was wrong, she tearfully answered, “I don’t want to turn 5 tomorrow. I LIKE being 4”. It’s funny how early these little ones become conscious of time passing. I pray that she enjoys being 5 every bit as much as she enjoyed being 4. Her little brother turns 2 next week and is quite happy about it. I am also very thankful for him. God has richly blessed us all!

Bless you, Becca for this opportunity to share a few of the many blessings we have been given.ReplyCancel

Becca, you’ll make me go to the poorhouse! I just love the new stamp companies you’ve introduced me to. JustRite is amazing and has just the right types of things I’ve looked for. Same for Our Daily Bread. Thank you. I’ve not used ribbon, but you’ve convinced me that I should. Will try it soon. When I look at the galleries on other sites your work just stands out in the crowd! Thank you for sharing so willingly and creating such works of art for us to try to achieve on our own.ReplyCancel
