I have one gift left to buy so I sat down for a few to tinker around with some stamps.  I’m happy to be back to share a new card and I’m even happier that it’s a Christmas Card – I’m not even close to having enough but each one that gets done is a triumph.  I love this Impression Obsession image, it’s absolutely lovely and it’s a fabulous size.  I colored it about a week ago and it’s been waiting to land on something.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Impression-Obsession – Chair; Printworks – Sentiment
Paper:  Me and My Big Ideas – Christmas; The Paper Company – Red, Bazzill – Green, 140lb Watercolor Paper
Inks:  Versamark
Accessories:  Black Embossing Powder, MS Border Punch, Fiskars Border Punch. Distress Ink Reinkers, Ribbon,  Pearls

Don ‘t forget, you can enter your name for my blog candy until Monday, December 22 at 9:00am CST.    Be sure to tell me about your favorite Christmas tradition on this post HERE.

Becca, as always a beautiful card, and I can see why you love this image so much. It speaks volumes to me- from the wreath that symbolizes eternity with our Lord to the chair in someone’s home. You can just visualize all the joyful decorating going on in that home :). In case I don’t get a chance to get online between now and Christmas day, I wanted to wish you and your family a very happy and blessed Christmas this year.

Our favorite traditon was to open one gift a week before Christmas. This was always a new Christmas outfit to wear to the Christmas program. The kids knew it was clothes but they were still excited to be able to open a gift. We always traveled on the holidays, so we opened gifts early, cooked homemade pizza and made cookies and punch. We knew we would have plenty of turkey and ham so the pizza was a favorite choice for all of us.

Your site has so much inspiration keep up the great work and congratulations!

I like helping ma’ dear (my grandma) in the kitchen with all of her favorite recipes-red velvet cake, sweet potatoe pies made with fresh Alabama sweet potatoes, coconut cake with pineapple between the layers, pecan pies and meanwhile the hen was boiling for the dressing, she would be singing ole time spirituals that I was raised singing with her on Sunday at church-not to mention every other day of the week. Wow, how I miss Ma dea.

Merry Christmas to the most God-fearing woman I ever knew, MaDea.ReplyCancel

Christmas could not be complete until I am able to go to a Christmas Service at our church….Christmas Eve is so special.
Celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ…to praise Him for the love and Hope that He has given to the world.
What a wonderful country we live in to be able to go freely without any fear. God has certainly blessed us.
Merry Christmas to everyone and Blessing for all the best in 2009

Don’t be so "blue" this holiday season!  Join us for week three of the Festive Flourishes Friday Challenge!  The theme is just as it sounds ~ "You’ll be doing alright with your Christmas of white but I’ll have a blue, blue Christmas!"  Grab your favorite Flourishes stamp set and dress it up with a dose of blue!  It doesn’t have to be a Christmas card! Any style will do!

Remember, you can join into our challenge at any time and, if you make up past challenges and complete all four – your name will be thrown into the hat for a free stamp set of your choice! Link your card HERE to a blog post or your SCS gallery.  Don’t forget the keyword FFFC3 on Splitcoast! Of course, we’d love it if you added the FLLC keyword too so that your work shows up in the company gallery!

The inspiration for this card comes from the Flourishes I Love Roses set.  The roses are exquisite and I wanted to use them as much as I could.  I stamped and masked an entire background then colored it blue with a wash of color from my reinker.  Then I went back in and did a little bit of shading with the same color.  Then I cut out  the Spellbinders Decorative Frame set and sponged on the embossed swirls and added pearls.  I cut out the Spellbinders Labels One Die and added the sentiment from Flourishes Thinking of You set.  After ribbon, a sweet little crochet flower and a pin – this one is done!

Hop around and see what the other Friends of Flourishes have done with this challenge:

As promised I’m back, albeit late, but back to offer up some blog candy.  As I mentioned, some time over the weekend my statcounter topped the 900,000 mark.  I did a little happy dance because I’m in a place that I never could have imagined 9 months ago.  I’m so thankful that I can dabble in an art that I love and that people even stop in every once in a while to look at it.

I’m offering a set of Long Rectangle Nestabilities for this blog candy.   You are eligible to win it by leaving a comment on this post telling me about your favorite Christmas tradition and your post should be entered before Monday, December 22 at 9:00am CST.  The winner will be picked by random.org on 12/22 some time in the afternoon.   I won’t be seeking out the winner, but ask that you check back to see if you’ve won.  The prize has to be claimed within  48 hours of the time the winner is announced, or another name is pulled until we have a winner.  One comment per person, please.  Come on now, you may be the lucky winner!

Thank you for helping me reach 900,000!!

Many traditions play a part in our family’s Christmas. One of my favourite involves the bringing in of the flaming plum pudding at the end of our Christmas dinner. We dim the lights and sing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” as the cognac-soaked pudding (made by my elderly mother) is triumphantly carried in, blue flames flickering on top.ReplyCancel

  • SUSIE MCCORMICKDecember 18, 2008 - 2:18 am

My favorite family tradition is, going out each season and each of us picking out an ornament to put on th tree..It usually pertains to our intrests that year.. It is so neat to pull them out each year and remember all the years past! Growing up, our tree always had red bulbs, straw stars, and lights.. Nothing else was allowed on.. I love pulling out the ones the kids made at preschoo, the ones with the crushed macaroni!

Oh, MY! Such candy! Thanks for the chance not only to win it, but the opportunity to tell you how much we all get already from viewing your blog. Our holiday tradition includes making home-made Chinese food and watching a movie on Christmas — this stems from an East-coast Jewish tradition of going to Chinese food and a movie on Christmas, since that is one of the few things open on the holiday… but here on the West coast, we do it our own way ;^)* We also have a tradition of going to Zoolights, as Cindy does, above, but our Chinese Food and a Movie is one that is truly our own!ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,

What do you mean, thanking people for checking your site once in a while, I am so hooked I have to come and check out your site everyday! You have so inspired me to try new things, I just adore your cards.

We no longer do Christmas, not because we dont believe in Christ, we do…we just want to celebrate his birth and death everyday, not just the one. When we used to do Christmas, it was the reading of the birth of christ out of the bible that we did every year and before we did anything else!
Thanks for for opportunity for blog candy congrats on your big numbers! I can see why Becca..your super talented.ReplyCancel

Christmas truly starts for me at 3.00 p.m. GMT on Christmas Eve….I turn on BBC radio 4 and will hear a lone choir boy sing the first verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City…..’ as he and the choir process up the aisle of King’s College Cambridge Chapel. It sends the chill up my spine, it is so emotive. I am usually in the kitchen preparing for the next day but this for me is a lovely time when I listen to old and new carols. I am sure you could tune in if you so wished and share with me the wonder of the Festival of 9 Lessons and Carols. Hope you and all of your readers enjoy a meaningful Christian Christmas this year. Thank you so much for the encouragement and the enjoyment you give all year to those of us who read your blog.ReplyCancel

My favorite Christmas tradition is gathering with my family for our “get together.” We usually have cold cuts for sandwiches and other finger foods. It’s my job to make the candy cookies that everyone loves so much! Then, of course, we exchange our gifts during that time.

This year is different though! Everyone has such hectic schedules with work and other family obligations and some of us would have to travel a bit to get there. So, we are having a nice dinner on Christmas afternoon. I will still be making those cookies, though! lolReplyCancel

Wow, congratulations on 900k hits, that is just amazing!
I am actually from Germany and we celebrate a little differently. One thing is that we exchange presents on christmas eve and our tradition is to go to church for the christmas service and carols on christmas eve at 6pm. It’s always a wonderful service with lots of children involved. The we go home for a nice meal and then the door to the living room is opened after a little bell rings in there. And that is the first time we see the decorated christmas tree! It’s breathtaking every time.
I now live in the UK and don’t have that same experience anymore but we keep it as close to that as we can!
    Merry christmas to everyone!

When my children and grandchildren were growing up I kept up a family tradition of having small toys on the trees so that any child visiting our home could pick one from the tree. It was such fun when there were “dime stores” with such good little toys. WIth the dollar stores around
it would be a good thing to do again, but I don’t have little children around any more.

Even though the kids are much older now, we still do this. And of course everyone is always trying “to guess” what is in their package. In all our Christmas morning pictures everyone looks fabulous!

My favorite Christmas tradition is getting together with my family and having our family picture taken. Christmas is the only time of the year that everyone can get together. I treasure each family picture that we have. I lost my grandfather 2 years ago right after Christmas so I think that Christmas picture is my favorite because he looked so happy and healthy. We all need to be thankful each day for our family because you never know how long you will have them.

On Christmas Eve, the first one to say “Christmas Eve Gift” gets a gift. You can do it to each member of the family, and it’s fun finding new ways to get them before they get you! Then on Christmas Day, you say “Christmas Gift” and the same thing happens. We don’t really get a gift for being the first one any more. It’s just a family tradition. New to the family? Fair game and watch out!! You’ve been had!ReplyCancel

Love the inspiration you bring to me thru this site – I’m grateful. My family tradition is one that my father began in 1936, handmaking our holiday cards … that’s 72 years of hand made cards from Dad and now from me. Sort of like a Natalie & Nat King Cole of the art world. Dad started with taking photos, then went to hand drawing and lettering a design. He did get them printed tho, where I’m like most of you (I suppose) handmaking each and every one. It’s a labor of love. Can’t imagine buying a “store bought” card. Cheers,ReplyCancel

Congratulations on your fabulous blog! Your artwork is such an inspiration.
My most treasured memory of and Christmas tradition began when I was a child and one that we passed to my children. Each Christmas eve the children of the family would present to parents and grandparents the story of the nativity, reading scripture and singing carols. The children always wrote up and little program as well as played their own instruments and wrote their “scripts.” It is a treasured Christmas memory of my children as well as remembering how my siblings and I did the same as children.ReplyCancel

    Merry Christmas Becca,

I am enjoying your creations, especially at night with a hot cup of chocolate, maybe you are starting me on a new Christmas tradition!
I would love it when the grandparents would come over Christmas morning and the children would wait at the top of the stairs for them to come. When all was ready, we would take pictures of them on the stairs then move out of the way as they rushed down to see what Santa had left.
We would give everyone their stockings and then sit, hold hands and pray with thanksgiving to the real source of our bounty and the real meaning of why we celebrate Christmas. After, we adults would all get a piece of French pork pie and coffee and watch paper fly and toys assembled. Now that the children are grown and the grandparents no longer are here we still have the children wait on the stairs for the sweet memories and pictures for the album. Time does change some traditions but new ones can always be added. Enjoy your holiday.ReplyCancel

I have two traditions that I love at Christmas. First, on Christmas Eve, dh, my two daughters and myself all drive around and look at Christmas lights throughout local towns. Then, when we get home, the girls go out and sprinkle magic reindeer food all over the lawn. We make it the weekend before with oatmeal, sugar and glitter. My favorite Christmas tratidition is on Christmas Eve, my dad always read the Christmas Story from Luke 2 out of the Bible while we sat in front of the tree with the manger scene. Then he read “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. We put out milk and cookies and went off to bed. We kids and mom gathered at the top of the stairs and waited for Dad to go downstairs and turn the lights on the tree, then we all went downstairs, littlest to oldest. We just found out yesterday that my dad has prostate cancer, so this tradition is all the more precious to me.ReplyCancel

One of our fav traditions is packing everyone into the car and heading out on a Christmas lights tour. We have a neighborhood that goes the distance by setting one weekend each December as one where everyone turns off the outside lights except for decorations and set luminaries by the curb. We take in that neighborhood most years and wander around.

One tradition we let lapse was my DH and I used to set the entire tree and put presents under it after the kids had gone to sleep. When they woke up the living room was transformed on Christmas morning! There were some Christmas Eves we never got to sleep if we hadn’t earlier wrapped all the presents! Glad we saw fit to end that one, LOL!ReplyCancel

Our favorite Christmas tradition started when our boys were probably 1 and 2. We have these elf ornaments that are about 8 in tall that have bendable wire arms and legs.
On Thanksgiving weekend they usually show up. And they are in different parts of the house. Hanging from the Christmas tree or a mirror or closet door We put them out of reach and move them around when boys are not in room. Supposedly they are at our home to keep an eye on the boys and each night they report back to Santa! On Christmas eve when Santa comes they go home with him until next year.
It has been such a fun thing that we all have enjoyed for years. Our boys are now 19 and 20 but they still talk about the elfs. It was one of the magical things and they were always on their best behavior during that time. The tradition has been pasted down to neices and nephews who love it just as much.
Thank you Becca for sharing your passion for stamping. It is truly a blessing to all who stop by.

Wow 900,000 people who visited inspired to release thier own creativity. As mychildren have grown older the little traditions have given way except one…their stockings…one year I made their stockings from a kit with little felt figures on each one (helped me identify who’s whose) When they reached their early 20’s I bought new ones because the old ones were soooooooooooooo ratty looking….much to my surprise they all complained on Christmas Day and I had to go find the old ones and put them up…and so it will be again this year…the old , loved and memory filled stockings will be the center of attention with the “remember when” stories flowing.

Wow congrats on all those hits. You must be doing something right :-)

Christmas traditions change as families grow, age etc. My favorite is a relatively new one for me and my family. Now that my mom is older and alone, a few years ago we started the tradition that we would have our big meal on Christmas eve at our house and my mom would spend the night at our place. This way she is with us Christmas morning and not alone…I love this. Since starting this I also fill a Christmas stocking for her. I remember the first year I gave it to her, she was so thrilled. She hadn’t had a stocking since she was a little girl.ReplyCancel

I have shown many of my stamping friends your blog and they love it. I got them hooked on it after you shared the technique using a corner punch to create a frame.

We lived in CA til our children were 11 and 8 and always spent Christmas with my family down in Southern California. BUT in 1996 my husband’s job transferred him to Mechanicsburg, PA and we had to start our own traditions.

One thing we did that the kids loved was create a Christmas Eve card playing night. We play the same game each Christmas Eve and serve hot cocoa and donuts. The card game is Hand and Foot. It takes about 3 hours to play and when we are done with that, we open our gifts. This allows our kids to sleep in till noon on Christmas day!

One of the most important things we did for our family after that big move was to create fun family nights. Our “children” are now 21 and 23 and this Christmas Eve tradition is one of their most favorite tradition!

There is a reason for 900,000 hits — your cards are BEAUTIFUL!!! I have to “hit” it everyday.

When our girls were at home, I always made Candy Cane Cookies, not only for us to eat but to fill trays that I would give away. I would also make Cinnamon Rolls for Christmas morning when we opened our presents. Now that the girls have their own homes, I don’t do that so much, but my girls are now carrying on that tradition themselves in their own homes.ReplyCancel

Wow! 900K! What a wonderful accomplishment. Congratulations. I have many holiday traditions that I share with my family. Our newest is a trip to the tree farm where we cut down our own tree. We’ve been doing it for three or four years now and always come home with a beautiful tree and a funny story!ReplyCancel

I think the only real tradition we have established so far is traveling! Our schedule here at home is always so crazy right before Christmas because we’re getting ready for the Christmas program at church. Usually after that’s done we load of the truck and head to Iowa for a week or so and spend time with all of our family. Presents here at home usually get opened the day before we leave. Kind of a bummer for our own family traditions, but we love spending time with our family too!ReplyCancel

One of my favorite traditions is that my kids all slept together Christmas Eve in the family room since they were very little. No one is allowed to come into the living room until we all do it together. My kids are now grown (28, 24, 21) and they still do this! Last year one of my sons brought their girl friend home for Christmas and he made her sleep in the family room with the rest of them! Traditons are great and very hard to break (thank goodness). Merry Christmas!ReplyCancel

  • DeniseDecember 18, 2008 - 7:46 am

    Who wouldn’t love some nestabilities?!

The one tradition we simply HAVE to do each year is bake a Birthday cake for Jesus. My children get to pick out the flavors, and then Christmas Day when everyone else usually has pies and such, we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus and blow out his candles. Because He is eternal we put one candle on the cake for each person in our family, because He lives in our hearts.

It’s a newer tradition, it began with me about ten years ago. I’m so glad we have it!ReplyCancel

My favorite way to start the season is “Black Friday”. My daughter and now granddaughters get up early and do a little shopping. Just for the atmosphere, not our real shopping! Then breakfast out and back home for a nap. Later we go downtown and watch the lighting of the trees and courthouse then home to watch Christmas Vacation and put up the tree.ReplyCancel

  • Karen RoquetDecember 18, 2008 - 7:54 am

It’s ironic that this is for GREAT blog candy, because my family’s favorite tradition is making Christmas candy together. We used to take in supplies to my parents house & brothers, sisters, in-laws, grandkids….everyone would make huge trays full of candy while having lots of fun & laughs! Then we’d all divide up the goodies & go home with tons of great Holiday treats. My parents are too elderly now to have us all in & in poorer health. However, my son loved the tradition so much that a few years ago, he started inviting his college-age friends (who had never made candy before!) & now they come every year, even though many have graduated & are out in the workforce. This Saturday I may have as many as 12 young adults at my home to make a variety of candies & goodies to share for the Christmas season. It just wouldn’t be Christmas here without it!!ReplyCancel

My favorite Christmas tradition is baking an old family recipe – Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies! They are delicious and everyone LOVES them. My co-workers look forward to the holidays because I bring them in, and this year I did it a little differently. I passed out individual small bakery bags (from PTI), filled them with cookies, and then stamped on the outside. They were very cute and my co-wokers were so happy to receive them. One even said the cookies should be illegal because they taste soooo good! :-)ReplyCancel

On Christmas Eve, our church hosts a candlelight service. Since I have been their church organist since 1972, it is one of my favorite services and my favorite Christmas tradition. The quiet twinkling of the many candles in the sanctuary, the blending of the voices of the choir and the time honored story telling of the birth of our Savior all combine to send us into the night filled with the wonder of our Lord. We recently got high speed internet so I’m new to reading these wonderful cardmaking blogs and have been totally engrossed in them! My favorite Christmas tradition is hanging the Christmas bell. My Mom bought this bell when I was born (1956) and it starts the Christmas season. After my Mom passed away the I hung the bell for her. When my daughter grew up I passed the bell down to my neice for her children. I now have a 1 year old granddaughter and last week I received a package from my niece and inside was the bell (yes I cried). She returned it to me so my granddaughter will grow up with our Christmas bell and the wonderful memory that we all share.

Our traditions are what makes Christmas so special. My husband does all the baking! It started when his Grandmother passed away and someone had to keep making the Date cookies. We have a Nativity set that has the baby Jesus separate from the manger, which we leave empty. We put the Christ child in before we go to bed on Christmas eve. On Christmas morning the first thing the kids would do was check to make sure Jesus has come. On Christmas Eve we go to church and then drive around to look at the lights.

Christmas and traditions go hand in hand. There are so many it wouldn’t seem Christmas without them. However, times change and children grow up, get married, and start new traditions.

So here are some of our traditions we have — or have had — in our family:
    1. decorate the tree the day after Thanskgiving while listening to Muppets Chrismtas and other Christmas songs — this has changed after the kids were gone and now we decorate the tree the week after Thanskgiving and it is just me and my hubby doing it. The kids are doing that at their own house. Put out the other decorations including the Nativity set.
    2. baking lots of cookies
    3. church on Christmas Eve
    4. We always took the kids’ picture at the top of the stairs in their jammies before they came down for stockings and breakfast. Open the stockings first on Christmas morning — then breakfast – always fresh cinnamon rolls and fruit, start the meat cooking, start opening gifts
    5. Opening one gift at a time – all the others watch what is received.
    6. Sharing time as a family and getting ready for dinner
    7. Playing games together and enjoying time together as a family. This year this is very important because it will likely be the last Christmas for a while with our daughter, hubby, and little son as they will be leaving for Romania as missionaries in the Spring. So this year time spent with them will be precious indeed. Being with the fmaily is the most important thing and the best tradition of all. Now there are four little grandchildren under the age of 3 (2 are twins) so it will be fun watching and playing them for sure. They just invite fun, and all the grandparents know this for sure!ReplyCancel

Becca, I am fairly new at finding your site, but absolutely love it. You are truly an inspiration to me. I am in awe of the details that you put into your work, and I am striving to add more to mine…

Our Christmas traditions are many. First is attending Church at 6:00 on Christmas Eve, which marks the end of the preparation “madness” and the spiritual evening is truly one our family enjoys. We read the story of the Savior’s birth, spend quiet time at home, have egg nog, and I have a coloring book that is over 35 years old. I color one page a year, so I do the year’s page, and we read “The Night Before Christmas” and off to bed with the little ones….if any are visiting, now that ours are all grown.

I’ll have to share Christmas day traditions another time, as this is long.
Thank you for the opportunity to stop a moment and think forward. May you and your family have a blessed Christmas and joyous New Year.

Congatualtions on all those hits, but we should be the ones thanking you! Your creativity is an inspiration. I appreciate you taking the time to share with us. We have two traditions – making lots of cookies and candy and giving it to friends and relatives. Also, we get the kids a new ornament every year, usually something to do with a special event during the year. Thanks for the chance to win.ReplyCancel

Hi and a BIG CONGRATS to you!!!!
First off I have to tell you I love your cards. They are so wonderful and such a great inspiration. This is really great blog candy you have offered.
One of our family traditions is that on Christmas eve we have pizza for dinner and then open our gifts while drinking hot chocolate or hot wassil. We have been doing this ever since I can remember….even when I was a child. This has been such a strong tradition that now my boys have this tradition in their families.
    Merry Christmas to all. :)ReplyCancel

  • VonDecember 18, 2008 - 9:25 am

My most favorite tradition for Christmas is My Mother and I would go to the different churches that would have their Bazaars and the 4-H sponsored a Christmas house and they would sever goodies and great punch. At the houses they would share recipes of the foods and the delicious beverages. We started this tradition when I was very very young and as a teen we got this delicious hot punch that we would have together on Christmas Eve. If we weren’t together which was not often, we would make it whereever we were and call each other and sip our hot punch.ReplyCancel

I so love every card you make. You are such an inspiration to me.

My favorite Christmas tradition is getting together with family – We have the WHOLE family over for dinner and I make my grandmother’s jello salad.

    GRANDMA’S CHRISTMAS SALAD
    Bottom layer:
    1 large lime jello
    1 3/4 cup boiling water
    1 3/4 cup cold water

    Middle layer:
    1 small lemon jello
1 1/2 cup boiling water, stir til dissolved. Add 15 to 17 cut up marshmellows, stir. break up 8 ounce cream cheese and mix in. Drain i small can of crushed pineapple and add to mixture. Fold in1 cup whipped cream with 1 tsp. sugar added.

    Top layer:
    1 large strawberry jello
    1 3/4 cup boiling water
    1 3/4 cup cold water
Use a 9 x13 cake pan and let each layer set before adding next. Cut and serve – I flip every other one to add color to the table.
Even tho Grandma has been gone for 18 years her spirit lives on!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

    Life is good!ReplyCancel

My favorite holiday tradition is going out to dinner on Christmas Eve and then we drive around to look at the holiday lights and head home to open our stocking gifts. Then it’s up bright and early (usually by 6:00) to open up the other gifts. It’s about the only day of the year I don’t mind getting up early.

Our favorite christmas tradition is on Christmas Eve we have “appetisers” for supper and just ‘graze’ throughout the evening time. Our children each open one gift that is hanging on the tree – and it’s usually an ornament or christmas p.j.’s. Then off to the Christmas Eve service at church and another year of memories have been made!ReplyCancel

My favorite tradition, which doesn’t happen often enough, is to be surrounded by family. We have a blended family, and my children are in Texas and Oregon while my husbands children are here in Spokane. At least we have a few members to spend Christmas with. I enjoy everything about Christmas, starting with the Christmas Eve service at our church and continuing to worship Christ on Christmas Day.ReplyCancel

I’ve just started getting your blog, and love it! We have many traditions, but one of my favorite is making lefse (a Scandanavian potato crepe type of thing- I love to roll it with butter and sugar) and rosettes (dusted with powdered sugar), and then during the days leading up to Christmas, we give each other a hard time about leaving some lefse for the rest of us. Another favorite is decorating the tree with ornaments given to me over the years by my students- I have a name/year on each one, so as I hang one I can think about that student – I just had tea with one who is heading off to University next year, and it is so amazing to find out how they and their lives are evolving!ReplyCancel

Our tradition is to cut a tree and hope to make a wreath from the cuttings. After the tree cutting, we have a picnic at the tree farm which usually has tables. At home, we have the big tree and at least 3 miniature fake trees for the tables. All the tree ornaments made by the boys are saved and added to the tree. Yes, it is a loaded tree with lots of memories.

Christmas family traditions were much more fun when the kids were younger. We used to line up from oldest to youngest and march downstairs to the tree to see what Santa had brought. I also loved reading the story of Christmas from my bible by the lights of the Christmas tree and saying our prayers before bed by the tree every night. I miss those times but I still carry one the traditions that I can. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones and thanks for the opportunity to win a Christmas present!

Congratulations on the 900,000 hits on your site, but I’m not that surprised to see that. I love visiting your website, your work is so beautiful and inspiring!

My favorite Christmas tradition is just spending time together as a family. Being a “blended” family, we have ex-spouses, grandparents, step-grandparents, etc. to share the kids with. Plus the kids aren’t little anymore and have other places to be too (girlfriends, friends, etc), and some of the older kids even have families of their own, so it’s getting even harder! But we do somehow manage to get everybody together in one place and at one time. We eat some great food, watch a movie or two, open a few gifts, and just take some time out of the rushing around to be “us” again and be together.

Another favorite tradition of mine is that my husband and I always have a “Christmas date.” Just the two of us, we go out to a nice dinner, exchange a small gift, and spend some quality one-on-one time together. Just helps us reconnect during a time when we’re usually both rushed and heading in different directions!

Hope everybody has a blessed holiday, no matter what or how you celebrate!ReplyCancel

Food! That is the tradition that I look forward to with glee. I do not mean the Christmas dinner, which we usually have at 2:00 in the afternoon. I am talkling about breakfast. We get up early and make eggs, pancakes, biscuits, and brown gravy. Oh how I look forward to the gravy that my mother makes. She told me last week that I had better learn to make it this year (for when she is no longer around). The conversation made me sad, but she is right. I would hate to lose that recipe. I enjoy this breakfast more than the main meal. Everyone is still in pajamas and we open gifts after eating. It is truly a family event.ReplyCancel

My favorite Christmas tradition is setting out our nativity set. We’ve had it sicne the girls were young and when I got divorced, it’s the one thing that I wanted to keep because setting it up always made the season spiritual for me. It’s the first thing that comes out and no decorating goes on until it’s set up. I love this tradition because it’s one that my girls came up with.

Although our traditions have changed within the past few years but looking back, we always got together with family on Christmas Eve. Each year, we had a new food theme and some were very interesting, like fondue. Imagine a snack, main dish and dessert all using fondue – what fun. Becca, you certainly inspire all of us with your gorgeous designs and work and the sharing of techniques with the world of crafters. You are one of the most giving people I’ve ever encountered.

At Christmas, the family gathers at our home for Christmas Eve for a holiday meal and our family Christmas tree. With 5 children and 10 grands the gathering is a delight for me – an only child!!! We visit, talk, the grands go down to the playroom and the adults sift through the house and some end up downstairs in the pool room! The girls and I get the food ready and round up the rest of the family. After the meal and before dessert we move into the living room to enjoy the huge tree and mounds of gifts (this year we are adjusting to the economy and the gifts will be fewer but the love greater!!!) My husband insists that only one gift is opened at a time so everyone can watch the recipient’s response. Also cuts down on the chaos! We begin with youngest grand and move all the way to Granddaddy then start another round! It’s a “strain” on the youngest ones to wait!!! Then dessert is served. After all have gone home to wait for Santa, my hubby and I and anyone who has stayed behind head for our church and the candlelight communion service. I’m in charge of the candles for the 11pm service and will assist in serving the communion elements. Hubby and I return home and reflect on the past year.ReplyCancel

Our favorite tradition is one my husband and I started. Usually 2 nights before Christmas (weather permitting), we bundle up the grandkids and drive around our little town, singing favorite songs, to look at all beautiful displays and lights. The grandkids are getting older, so I don’t know how much longer they will want to do this with us, but I hope forever. Then we come home to cocoa with marshmallows and cookies!

    Hi Becca,
congrats on reaching 900,000! That’s great. I love to come check out your blog since I found you just a few months ago.
I have a few favorite Christmas traditions. One, every year we get our girls a new ornament. They love it!
Two, I’ve been trying to get 2 silver picture frame ornaments for our tree every year to put a picture of each girl in. Haven’t found the frames yet this year.
Another tradition I love is to spend time with all the extended family either Christmas eve or Christmas day. It alternates every year. This year it will be Christmas eve. I’m just sad it won’t be as much time as some years because both my husband and I will be working that day at least until 5 pm. At least we’ll be together later!

I really enjoy my visits to your blog… so many beautiful things to see!

My favourite Christmas tradition doesn’t happen anymore… my Dad used to read us “The Night Before Christmas” from a book he had as a child, on Christmas Eve. Once we had kids, he would read it to them.

Now that Dad is gone, we all remember it well, but no one has stepped in to take his place.ReplyCancel

My favourite Christmas tradition is my family get together. We always used to have a huge party at my nans house but sadly so many of the family have passed on now. I try to make it special for my own family now and hope that they will remember our get togethers at Christmas with the same fondness that I remember those of my childhood.ReplyCancel

My husbands family has a wonderful tradition of reading the story of Jesus birth from Luke before we open gifts. It helps remind us of why we are even exchanging gifts. Hi Becca,

Congrats on your 900k+ hits! Your artwork is beautiful and always inspiring, it’s no wonder you’ve had so many visits!

We have many Christmas traditions, but I will share this one. We usually have 8 Christmas trees in our home, each decorated in a different theme. I get up in the morning before I awaken the girls for school and turn the lights on each of the trees and put on soft Christmas music. I’ll also light fires in the fire places and when they get up, the house is warm and festive and it really puts them in a pleasant mood before going out and tackling their day.

Thank you for the opportunity to win these Nesties. They are on my Wish List.

    Hugs~

My favorite Christmas tradition was started 21 years ago this Christmas. My baby sister had just had her first child a week earlier and was still not up to much. I came over on Christmas morning to see her family, and found out they really didn’t have any food to make a complete meal with since her husband had been laid off just a few weeks before. In my car, I had lettuce and tomatos for a salad I was making at my parents, I also had a loaf of bread. She had bacon in the freezer….so I took out the bacon, had my B-I-L start thawing and frying and had Esther sit at the table and put bread in the toaster and I cut up the lettuce and tomatoes for BLTs. I still have BLTs for Christmas breakfast every year with my baby sister and her family! My nephew has 2 children and this will be their first Christmas with BLTs for breakfast! I hope this is one tradition we can have for a very long time to come.ReplyCancel

Becca, I love checking your site everyday as you do such beautiful cards. I envy you your talent as I am sure everyone else who visits does as well. We don’t really have a Christmas tradition anymore since our son was killed in a car accident. Everything changed after that and we have a very low-key celebration. This year we don’t even have a tree up, as we have a 7-month old puppy and are afraid she would get into the ornaments. Maybe next year! This is my husband’s retirement puppy and she has been quite a handful, but life would be boring without her. Hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas.ReplyCancel

I’m glad you’re pleased with your blog count — because we’re sure pleased with your blog! You are a true source of inspiration. Reaching 900,000 is pretty amazing but seems appropriate since I’d have to say you come across as a someone who is a one in a million kind of person! Regarding traditions, there are so many but I’d highlight putting cookies out for santa even though my kids are teenagers, reading from the bible on Christmas Eve, and making goldenrod eggs on Christmas morning. Thanks for sharing your creativity and your faith!

Becca congrats on 900,000 hits! I truly enjoy coming by everyday to see what you have created for us to drol over! Here’s to another 900,000!

One of our favorite holiday traditions is on Christmas Eve when we all get together and listen to the good classic Christmas carols while we get to open our annual Christmas Eve gift of a new pair of pajamas! We usually have hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles and get our new jammies on and then sometimes we also put in a favorite holiday dvd before the evening news comes on where we can see where Santa is on the weathermans radar, or check it out online if we miss it on the news. Of course by then he is getting close and that means the kids need to get to bed quick!

    Merry Christmas

You are just sooooo sweet and generous. My favorite tradition is getting together at my parents house on Christmas Eve. Now my son is the youngest, at least I can empathize with him! Have a Blessed Holiday!

When I was young we celebrated Christmas Eve each year with the family going to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at our church. As a child, it was mystical and I’ll never forget the warmth I felt. The true meaning of Christmas was so evident. Years passed, times changed and and the tradition was lost. Later I married a wonderful man and the tradition was rekindled. Celebrating this special holiday at our church’s Christmas Eve Candlelight Service is warm and meaningful. The softness of the light and beauty of the music moves my heart and soul. Thank you for letting me share my Christmas tradition with you.ReplyCancel

My favorite family tradition is celebrated on Christmas Eve every year. My mother is German and was born and raised in Germany. So, we have a typical German smorgassboard for our Christmas Eve Dinner. This includes homemade German Potato salad, German ham, and other yummy items! After we eat, we exchange gifts with my parents and my niece. I know that once my mother is no longer here, I will continue this tradition of a German dinner on Christmas Eve! I forgot our tradition! We always travelled to see our grandparents during Christmas. The Eve was spent on my step-father’s side, and Christmas day with mom’s side. The meals were always prepared first, and then the kids got to open packages.

Our most favorite holiday Christmas tradition is having all the family including all the grandchildren and neighbors and friends in for a beautiful Christmas Brunch. We include baked ham, Egg & Sausage Casserole, Home Fries, about 7 lbs. of bacon for everyone to pick on and there usually isn’t any left over. We also have a full array of fruit, cookies, pumpkin roll, and chocolate pudding cups topped with fresh whipping cream. Congrats on hitting 900,000! I can see why! Thanks too for offering such enticing blog candy. I have been using Nestabilities for just a few months and absolutely love them. Our favorite family tradition is the gifting of new jammies for everyone for Christmas. To ensure we are all in our best jammies for Christmas phtos, everyone gets to open one (or whatever it takes) present Christmas Eve. Big surprise what it is…hah! The kids all say it is THE tradition they will take with them to their new families, so I guess it is a ‘hit”.

Favorite traditions: sharing Christmas brunch with my church family (a rural church with many generations of families attending), Christmas Eve service at my church, our Christian school Christmas program with the sweet voices of the children singing of Christ’s birth, hanging the “Names of Jesus” ornaments on a special tree with my grandson, laughing and playing games with my family at our Christmas get together. Wow – congrats on the 900K hits. My favorite Christmas tradition was decorating the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve while growing up. We would pick out the tree the day after Thanksgiving and tag it. The weekend before Christmas would find us cutting down the tree and taking it home. My dad would set it up and put the lights on but we didn’t decorate until Christmas Eve after the candlelight service at church. After the tree was decorated, we’d eat either roast beef sandwiches or meatball sandwiches. Good memories indeed. Thanks for the chance to enter!ReplyCancel

Well, our family would open presents on Christmas Eve, so Santa had to come early. My sister would take me to my room and shut the door whyle Santa came. I would hear bells jingling and then Santas boots walking across the floor. Then after Santa left we could come out and open presents. Christmas day was spent at Grandmas house. My other memorie is the tree. I loved it and would play barbies in the tree. My dad and I would go to the lot and pick out the perfect one. They smelled so good.ReplyCancel

One of my favourite traditions is when we sit around the table for lunch and we crack open our bon bons with the person sitting next to us. Then put on our silly xmas hats from inside the bon bons and wear them throughout lunch, We all look funny and our heads get all sweaty from the hat, because it is alway hot on xmas day here, but its just one of the things we have always done since I was a little girl. I also love singing carols with my family around the tree, singing is so good for the heart.

Your blog is amazing, as is this great giveaway!!

My favorite tradition started after I had kids. It is the excitement of Christmas morning as they run down the stairs and see the presents for the first time.

In my childhood we opened presents on the 24th at midnight. Although it was very exiting to see the gifts we did not have the tradition of “Santa” himself. Being Spanish we celebrated Christmas more as the “birth of Christ” and then we celebrated the 3 Wise Men Day in January.

Its just fun to play with the concept of Santa and all that he does for the good boys and girls.

Thanks for the chance to win.ReplyCancel

When I was growing up we spent Christmases with my godparents. At their house, the tree was brought and decorated by Santa on Christmas Eve after we were in bed. I could scarcely stand the suspense on Christmas morning waiting for my Mother to tell us that we could go downstairs. The tree stood in their reception hall… 8 feet of total splendor, lit by candles with presents piled underneath. That was the best part, for me anyway….the first glimpse of the tree with its’ flickering candles.ReplyCancel

My favorite Christmas tradition is to read the Christmas story from the Bible before we begin opening gifts. Then each person opens a gift as everyone else watches so we can share in the experience.

Our family then attends the Nativity liturgy at our church, which officially starts right before midnight, and concludes around 2AM. It is a beautiful service! Then after sleeping in on Christmas Day, we enjoy a warm breakfast together. Christmas Day is usually very laid back for us since we don’t have extended family that lives nearby for visiting. Sometimes we will visit with church friends later in the day after we have all fully rested!

    Hi, Becca,

I truly enjoy your blog. Congratulations, 900k hits is an awesome accomplishment, especially in nine months.

Our Christmas tradition is to trek 150 miles or more every Christmas eve to spend Christmas eve with my family and another 50 miles to spend Christmas day with my hubby’s family. This may not seem like much, but when my husband was active duty it became more and more important to us to spend the holidays with our respective families, so even when we were in Japan, we still made the trip. It has always been worth it. Time with family is more precious than gold.ReplyCancel

Traditions! Wow where do I start. The Christmas tree is a must do and like others it is an eclectic collection of ornaments given and bought over the past 38 years – including the original string of popcorn we did the first year we were married. Cards written every year and this year topped out at 108! I just finished writing them today!!! Pizzelles are our traditional Christmas cookie. It is an Italian waffle cookie and this year we are making 5 batches of 7 dozen each! Most recently we have given our adult children half of their gift in the form of a check. They must use the money to make Christmas happen for someone else! Just like you — giving the Nesties to make someone happy at Christmas! Thanks.ReplyCancel

Traditions? Well, as far as I can tell, we don’t actually have any unless you consider the general stuff like putting up the tree. But then, the stocking tradition has lasted quite well seeing as I am now 34 ha ha!! This year, Mum said that stockings would not be done this year because they are expensive and I agreed. But then Dad decided that actually we would, so this year, it looks like the stocking tradition lasts one more year!!

Our Christmas tradition was to have all the family together on Christmas Eve and have a fondue. After that all of the kids (including myself) would grab a sleeping bag and crash where every we could find room and fall asleep until Santa came. We would get woken up just after midnight as Santa was taking off. Taking off of the roof that is … someone would make all the appropriate noises and we would think that Santa was actually on the roof. Our family has a table cloth that was started in the ’70s when I was a little girl…each Christmas, my Grandmother would pull it out and use it on the table and everyone would sign it with a date and maybe a picture to commemorate their attendance. My grandparents are now both deceased but we still use this table cloth each year…my children are added as well as my neice and nephew. Looking at all the “entries” brings back such good memories. I only hope that my children hold it as dear as I do.ReplyCancel

Because we don’t “do” Santa and I like to make Christmas morning more than an attack on the tree, we started doing treasure hunts. When they were younger, I’d give each of the kids a card with step by step directions to their treasure on Christmas morning. The older ones helped the younger one and it was a fun time.ReplyCancel

Hi becca! thanks for the chance to win such awesome blog candy! Well, let’s see……I think our favorite Christmas tradition is getting together on Christmas day at my sister’s house and exchanging gifts and memories. Reminiscing about past Christmas’s and how thankful we are for where we are now. I really enjoy being with my family and are so grateful to have them in my life. What better way to spend Christmas?ReplyCancel

Christmas is such a joyous time of the year. One of our traditions is to attend Christmas Eve Mass with my family. We then spend the evening together sharing a meal and reminescing about the year. We awake the next morning to opening our presents and having a wonderful Christmas breakfast. I hope you and your family have a joyful, peaceful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Savious Jesus Christ. Helen ReitersReplyCancel

Congrats on your 900,000 hits. It’s a tribute to your fabulous ideas and talent. Growing up in the country, we made most of our christmas ornaments using construction paper to make paper chains, cut-lace snowflakes, paper dolls and balls. We blitzed them out with glitter and ribbons. We did this until we kids were all in Intermediate school. It was fun because we competed with each other to make the most beautiful or bizzare ornaments. Mom kept a lot of the ornaments and gave them to us when we all married. I had mine framed to remind me of the ‘good ol’ days’.ReplyCancel

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is to pull out all the Christmas decorations early in the morning and decorate all day. Reliving memories of Christmas’ past and ones who are no longer with us. Then once we are done we jump in the car and go out that night to drive around town and see other house’s outside decorations ~ then come home for some yummy hot chocolate.ReplyCancel

Baking cookies. My Mom would start in October and bake/freeze at least 2 kinds every week, I never thought she was crazy then! A few years back I took all her handwritten recipes and preserved them with copies for my collection. I don’t start in October and the selection isn’t as varied but I wont ever let a Christmas go by without baking at least 2 kinds of cookies…I have to, it’s tradition!

    Happiest of Holidays to Everyone,

Our Christmas tradition was to get together at my parents house on Christmas eve. Mother would make chili for our hot dogs & we’d have ham sandwiches, sausage balls, potato salad & pecan pies. Now that my parents are older everyone comes to my house for Christmas eve. We don’t have the good food that my mother always made but we enjoy each other’s company & open presents.ReplyCancel

First of congrats on hitting 9ook!! that’s awesome!
My favorite tradition is food related. My mother always made a delicous Christmas Pudding that took forever to make and included ground beef suet. hmmm sounds pretty wierd, huh? Well this is the first year I made it and can’t wait to try it out. I hope it’s as delicous as the last one my mom made.

Holy cow Becca! 900 000! You go girl! Congratulations!

And what a nice little bit of candy too !

A tradition for us before Christmas is to make sugar cookies as a family. Then we ice them…and we always tell the kids to be more generous with the icing! It’s a one to one ratio! The thickness of the cookie should be the thickness of the icing…they think it’s hysterical and love it!

Christmas Eve is the service at church which is all of our kids favourite part. Then we’re off to my parents for opening presents (this is a German tradition…we’ve never waited till Christmas day)….

    Blessings Becca!ReplyCancel

Congratulations on 900K! I so enjoy your blog and you ideas are fabulous. I have so many Christmas traditions that I love, but the one that comes to mind first is buying a special ornament ( or ornaments) for our son. I always get him one with son and the year on it, the others are whatever I think he will enjoy. When he was little it was Sesame Street characters. Now that he is older it may be Indiana Jones or one of the musical instruments he plays. He has had his own little tree since he was two years old, so, you can imagine how many ornaments are on the tree now. Granted, Sesame Street and a few from the early years are packed away and being saved for his children. This was a tradition my mother started for me and I so appreciate those ornaments, especially now since she is no longer with us.ReplyCancel

I come from a family of 6 children. Christ’s birthday is still celebrated as a family, at mom and dads on Christmas Eve, with many of the family attending midnight mass at the church we were raised in. Hearing all the church psalms, brings back so many wonderful memories of our childhood, and family gatherings.

My favorite Christmas tradition growing up was going with my Dad to “make hospital calls”, as he called it, on the elderly in nursing homes and VA hospitals. He visited the local ones weekly, but those who lived in other parts of the state, we only visited on holidays, particularly Christmas Day. The time spent driving with him and the joy he brought to those sweet senior citizens really made an impact on me. Now, my dad is 90 and in a nursing home himself. You can bet, my daily visits with him are equally precious.ReplyCancel

My favorite Christmas tradition is hanging up all our handmade ornaments on the Christmas tree Thanksgiving weekend. We usually make one each year, so some of them are made by my kids, and the other ones are those we received through a swap(from a home school message board). Many of the handmade ornaments represent a picture book like Corduroy, Madeline, Night of the Moonjellies, etc.ReplyCancel

We have four children, all grown now. When they were very young, our family and close friends would gather at our home on Christmas Eve for dinner, church, and then an evening with all children taking part by singing a song, playing an instrument, or reading a poem – what gifts they always brought to us. We would end the evening with my reading “The Christmas Guest” by Helen Steiner Rice, long before it became so popular. We would then have a birthday cake to celebrate the birth of Jesus, with all singing Happy Birthday to Jesus, which we still do today. Our children being grown now do not perform for us, but they always ask me to read “The Christmas Guest,” which still brings tears to the eyes of all and reminds us of how we should live our lives, and then we celebrate Jesus’ birthday. I know this tradition will continue with our children and their children. We are very blessed, and very thankful.

    Have a blessed Christmas.ReplyCancel

Our family tradition has gone to pass as the “family” has gotten too large. My mom was the oldest of 8 children. From the eight children, I am #4 of 24 grandchildren. We used to have a family party the Sunday between Christmas and New Year. Now with my 2 children their are 42 great grandkids and we are still growing. Everyone is spread over several states and on each coast. It has only been the last 3 years that all of us have failed to get together in a rented hall to celebrate. I am sad as this year my grandma is turning 85 on Christmas day and there will be no party. At least my family can help her celebrate.ReplyCancel

  • PaulaDecember 18, 2008 - 10:05 pm

My favorite Christmas tradition happens on Thanksgiving. After dinner the dishes are cleared and we gather around the table and do a Christmas craft. One year we (Mom, Dad, Grandma and me) had pulled down grape vines and made wreaths. Everyone had brought stuff to decorate wreaths and we made some beautiful creations. Another year we decorated sweatshirts. Most years the crafts aren’t that large or involved. All ages participate — older ones helping the younger ones and young ones helping the older ones. It is a great opportunity to interact with the kids and each other. I remember one year Roddy was over in the corner asking Shelly to come help him. Shelly was ignoring him. FInally someone said something to Shelly about it and she explained he had tied her shoe strings around the table leg. This year we made foam reindeer ornaments. Simple and easy and was fun and funny trying to figure them out. They still haven’t forgiven me for the angels made with beads and safety pins. I think mine is still partially finished wrapped up in a napkin somewhere. Those suckers were hard! Last year we (mostly the kids) made Christmas cards to send to soldiers in the hospital. One year we tied a quilt for a new baby in the family. Another year we tied two lap quilts for an aunt & uncle who were both going through chemo. Everyone — including the guys — tied a few “love knots”. No matter what we do, it is a wonderful time for interaction with family and friends and we take home a little rememberance or send a little love.ReplyCancel

My favorite tradition involves an advent calendar. It has a little stuffed mouse that the kids would always move from day to day. I remember just a few short years ago my youngest was in her teens and I would smile when I realized the mouse had moved without my prompting. Then we had a couple of years where she wasn’t so interested, and I would have to gently point out that the mouse hadn’t moved.

Well, this year she went off to college. I thought I probably wouldn’t put up the calendar. But she insisted I HAD to put it up. So now guess who is moving the mouse!

Lots of memories of that calendar.ReplyCancel

Congratulations on reaching 900,000. It is not surprising, as your site is wonderful! We so appreciate your talent, your inspiration, and your Christian witness. As human beings, created in the image of God, we were meant to “create”. You certainly have embraced that concept. Christmas holds many traditions in our family. As our parents have passed away, some traditions have changed. We now enjoy re-lighting all of the advent candles with prayer and scripture before sitting down to Christmas dinner. We share much good food, fellowship and gifts but most of all we share God’s love reflected in our love for each other. Thank you for the wonderful Blog Candy opportunity. Have a blessed Christmas!ReplyCancel

We have so many holiday traditions that are all beloved. My very favorite is … on Christmas morning we have Jesus’ birthday cake for breakfast. It is the one day a year the kids are allowed to have just cake for breakfast, which makes it an extra special treat. Not even on their own birthdays do they get this. lol It’s a simple way to remind us all what we are really celebrating. Before opening presents we light the Christ Candle in our Advent wreath and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. I think it brings the focus for them back to Christ rather than ‘what did I get’.ReplyCancel

My favourite time is late on Christmas Eve. With presents wrapped, table laid and prepared veggies in the fridge, I sit in a tree-lit room, drinking coffee, watching the Midnight Service on television and thinking of family and friends who are no longer wish us. I started doing this when our son – now 35 – was a toddler and it’s still the best part of Christmas for me.

Whatever you are doing this Christmas, may it be happy and blessed for you all.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions has always been the cookie baking that my kids and I do. When they were little, it was so much fun to watch them carefully choose which cookie cutter to use and just how many sprinkles to put on each cookie. Now that they are older, it means letting them help choose the newest recipe to try. Some of our best conversations happen while watching cookies bake or while nibbling on the the fresh, warm sweets.ReplyCancel

It was our tradition when my children were young to wake up on Christmas morning & read from our bibles the true story of why we celebrate this holiday. We always did this prior to opening our presents, so we could focus on our Savior, who is the greatest gift we will ever receive. My children are grown now, but we still enjoy doing this with our young grandchildren. My Christmas dinner this year will include a birthday cake for Jesus, where the grandkids can all take turn blowing out candles and singing Happy Birthday to Him.ReplyCancel

I love to go out to a local spot where there are lots of berry laden bushes. I have a great time cutting a big bunch of greenery and red berry delights and making them into a Christmas bouquet for the front of our house. I find it easier than faffing about with a circular wreath! I’ll be doing that tomorrow (Saturday) so that they last into the New Year.
Merry Christmas to you and will be looking in and delving onto the history here. You have some great work.ReplyCancel

    Bekka,
Congrates from England, I am pleased to visit your website on a regular daily basis, you are truly a talented young lady, and thanks for the marvellous creative ideas you inspire in us that do not have the talent, but still enjoy trying.

When our grandsons were tiny we usually had all the family with us, and we used to have our Christmas breakfast of Ham and soft boiled eggs with slices of brown bread, which they always looked forward to, then off for a walk with the new toys, Now being on our own we spend our Christmas with friends as boys now spread around the world.
Wishing you a Very Happy and Peaceful Christmas

Our favorite Christmas tradition takes place on the night of my children’s Christmas programs. We go and enjoy the Christmas school or church program and then take a s.l.o.w ride through a friends neighborhood to admire the pretty lights. Afterwards we go home for some hot cocoa and a Snoopy Christmas video.
Lastly, it is off to bed for all of us.
It’s family centered, slow paced, and a good way to usher in the Spirit of Christmas…

My favorite Christmas tradition takes place on Christmas Eve night. My husband and children light the tree and sit around the lit fireplace just talking and enjoying each others company (hot chocolate and other goodies are always present). We purposely decline all holiday invites on Christmas eve so we spend our family time together. Around 10pm the kids will lay out the cookies and milk for Santa and then head off to bed leaving mommy and daddy with some extra quiet time together.

My favorite tradition is the Christmas stockings. My two sons now 21 and 27 still have their stockings which are ugly commercially knitted ones that I purchased because they were cheap and I couldn’t find ones that I liked that year. The boys were allowed on Christmas morning to get into their stockings before they woke us up and have something to play with before 7 am!! At 7 they were allowed to wake us up for breakfast and opening presents from Santa. Otherwise we were sometimes up by 5 am!! I had planned to replace the stocking with nicer ones but anytime I mentioned it both boys were adament that they always remain the same so they have. They still enjoy the stockings but getting up at 5 am to see what is inside is no longer a problem!ReplyCancel

My favorite Christmas tradition is decorating our Christmas tree. My husband & I have several ornaments from childhood and many more new ones since we’ve been married. We have many traditions but one that has caught on the past few years (now my kids expect it!!) is we have a game on Christmas Eve. I go to the dollar store and purchase simple, inexpensive gifts and wrap them up. Everyone picks a gift and I read a story about the “Wright” family and whenever I say right, you pass the gift to the right and when I say left, you got it, you pass the gift to the left!! When the story ends, you get the package you end up with! It gets to be pretty funny! They love it!ReplyCancel

I am from South Africa, so we always had a WARM Christmas ;) Our family tradition was to have a watermelon “fight” on Christmas day. We would always be around the pool and our Christmas lunch would be a huge BBQ. After lunch when everyone was relaxing and letting their tummies rest, my grandmother would sneak up behind someone and rub a slice of watermelon in their face. And that would start the watermelon fight ;) with everyone running around the pool trying to squish watermelon on as many faces as possible.
Those are such fond memories for me.

Now that I’ve been living in Canada for 7 years, we like to go around the neighborhood a day or 2 before Christmas and have a look at how people have decorated their houses (which was completely new to us when we moved here, as South African’s do not decorate the outside of their houses, only the insides).

Thank you for the chance to win these nesties – and congrats on your 900k mark! I love coming to visit your blog as your cards are STUNNING!ReplyCancel

The stockings always have a walnut, tangerine, apple and animal crackers. I decided I had better write down all the traditions we have so the children and grandchildren will remember when we are gone….The children and grandchildren seem to remember only their favorites.. One of our family traditions is going to the Christmas Eve service. Any of us who in the area go, the fist one there gets to save a pew or two so we all can sit together. It is a bonding, heartwarming time. The year my Dad was very sick (he passed on the 28th) our whole pew sat there and cried during Silent Night. Then we did the same last year – the first year without my Mom. It begins the Christmas celebration with the true meaning of Christmas, and also reinforces the importance of family and family memories.ReplyCancel

Wow Becca, that’s a lot of people visiting your blog! It doesn’t surprise me though, because you do such beautiful work. Your blog has been in my list of favorites to visit for quite some time now.
One of our traditions has been to go to the 11:00 candle light service on Christmas Eve at our church. Everyone has a candle which is lit just before the last song, by passing the flame from one candle to the next in the pew. The last song of the service is always Silent Night sung acappella. It is so awesome to stand in the glow of the candles, with just the sound of our voices, singing that song. It brings tears to your eyes.
Something we do for gift-giving started years ago as a joke, but has become a tradition now. Every year we’d give our children socks as a little add-on to their present. In their early years, they were looked upon by them as an “unwanted gift,” but as they got older, they started looking forward to those silly, ole socks. This year we’ve all decided not to give gifts, but just get together and enjoy the day/evening together. I just couldn’t let go of the sock tradition though, so I will be surprising them all with their Christmas socks again this year.ReplyCancel

Our Christmas starts on Christmas Eve by all going to church together. Then we come back to our house for food–lots of nibbles, meatballs, etc. We each open one gift (unless the grandkids talk us into letting them open another one!). We play board games until we all go to bed. In the morning the first person up wakes everyone else and we open our gifts. Later we have a huge meal together and late afternoon everyone packs up and goes home.ReplyCancel

My mom and dad (bless their souls) always gave my brother and I a Storybook of Lifesavers candies on Christmas. I have carried this tradition to my niece and nephew (brother’s children) and every year for the past 19 years they have received their Storybook Lifesavers. My huband evern asked them last year if they wanted something different or if they were too old for the candies. “NO” they replied, ‘we want our Lifesavers. So the tradition continues. It makes me smile.

Wow! I think I am #431! That is a LOT of responses!! Congratulations again on your milestone — that is AMAZING! :)

I love your blue card – the frame and ribbon is really so neat!

Our favorite tradition is to go to church Christmas Eve, come home and watch Charlie Brown Christmas, and then each person can open one present. The we sleep in for awhile Christmas Day (now that the kids are older!), have a nice breakfast together, and open the rest of the gifts.

    Merry Christmas to you!!ReplyCancel

My favorite tradition is getting the tree. It’s not like we go out to the woods and get one. We usually just go to Home Depot or someplace like that. But it’s like a game of chance cuz the trees are wrapped up like sausages, so you never really know what you’re going to get. Then we watch my husband struggle to cut it get it in the stand and hope it stays standing. Then, of course, the cat has to come and have a sniff and even climb in there. My daughter loves to decorate it, so I do the lights and she does the rest. It’s fun!!!ReplyCancel

We don’t have a lot of traditions. Our family is mostly 1200 miles away from us. When my husband isn’t working (which is rare) and now I usually work Christmas too, but when we aren’t working, we make sure to make cookies. We’ll make way too many and then we give them away. We’ll take a basket of cookies to the sheriff’s office or the local fire fighters. We’ve given them to the toll takers on the toll road to work. Jus someone stuck working to make their day a bit better. Thanks for the chance for the nesties. They are on my holiday wish list.

    Cheers!

My favourite thing to do was to leave a small present on the end of my little ones beds on Xmas eve for them to open when they got up sooooo early in the morning hoping that would keep them happy for a while. It never worked LOL. They would open it and then come wake me up for more but I was always awake anyway waiting for them.
My kids are grown up now and I have to drag them out of bed so I miss those times and am looking forward to grandchildren!ReplyCancel

Wow! Congrats on the posts, you so deserve them! Your work is truly inspiring. I look forward to every one of your posts to see what you’ve come up with next, each is more beautiful than the next!

Our favorite tradition is getting the kids all bundled up (if it’s cold – we live in FL) and go out looking for the yards with the best light displays. We pack cocoa or eggnog and cookies and just drive around, talking about why there is Christmas and instilling the real Christmas Story to the kids. They are older now, but it’s still just as much fun!ReplyCancel

  • Emma O.December 20, 2008 - 6:42 am

First I wanted to say thanks for sharing your beautiful talent & an opportunity for some great nesties!

On Christmas Eve we got to mass, come home open one gift, and the kids (after setting up the traditional cookies, carrots, & milk for santa and his reindeer) get a ride from grandpa up the stairs to bed. Christmas morning we open gifts one at a time in a circle with everyone sharing a warm drink (coffee & hot cocoa).

Again, thank you for sharing your beautiful talent & have a wonderful Christmas!ReplyCancel

  • BetsyDecember 20, 2008 - 7:37 am

My favourite Christmas tradition is the Chocolate initials that we all get on Christmas Day. This was started in my family before I was born, so it has continued for over 50 years. My parents are of Dutch decent and this is something they have always done. I continued the tradition with my children and my grandson as well as my children’s spouses. Next Christmas I get to buy another initial for my newest grandchild.
Another little thing that has become a tradition is the baking of a Cherry Bundt cake. My daughter says I “must” bake one every year.

Your cards are beautiful and you have such a talent. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas!ReplyCancel

All of my sisters are all fairly crafty and years ago (probably 15 yrs now) we decided to make ornaments to share at Christmas. Over the years nieces have joined us and we’ve expanded to include any type of holiday decoration. The fun thing about this is that this is truly a present we do not have an idea of what we are getting … and I often am truly amazed by their creativity. This year my gift will be a set of stamped holiday coasters using the ceramic tiles. Thank you for providing much inspiration this past year.ReplyCancel

Well, Jesus is the reason for the season, and the Christmas Eve candlelight service and communion always make my heart get so full and I get those lovely tingles on the back of my neck. How special is that? I am thrilled that this service includes communion, because being invited to go up to the altar and kneel at the rail while celebrating Christ’s birth is just amazing!

Second favorite tradition: Hot mulled wine! ;-)ReplyCancel

    Becca,

I discovered your blog in the last several months and visit it daily. You are an amazing woman and crafter.

I just spent way more time than I needed to reading all the traditions. I guess mine is pretty similar. Just going to my mom’s on Christmas Eve for dinner (or supper, as we in the south say) and gifts. Very light and breezy supper, usually homemade pork sandwiches with chips and TONS of my mom’s homemade goodies. My mom is older now, so the goodie making falls to me and my sister. But we set up at my mom’s and let her “help”.

Thank you for your wonderful work. Keep it up and many blessing to you and yours.ReplyCancel

Do you feel like a rock star? My new favorite Christmas tradition is being ABLE to finally make and send handmade Christmas cards, even though it was only 4.. I enjoyed everyone of them and as I made them, I thought of and took the time to email and thank the kind folks that had generously donated stamps and paper so I could have my hobby again. I lost my entire collection from a robbery in 2007. I had collected for years, both fine arts, decorative painting, and rubberstamping. I have really reallly enjoyed this Christmas! One of my most favorite family traditions is the ‘table gift’. When we sit down to eat our turkey dinner, each person has a small gift at their place setting to open at the end of dinner. This tradition was started by my grandmother back when my mother was a little girl in the 1930’s and has lasted through 3 generations of our family.

Our favorite family tradition started a few years ago as our children moved out on their own one by one. Each Christmas Eve they all come home and spend the night. It’s my husband’s and mine favorite day to wake up every Christmas morning with all of us under one roof again. To see the kids all camped out on the living room floor in sleeping bags and blankets. There is nothing like waking up to a house full of children :D.

Our other traditions include Christmas Eve. I have trays of veggies, beef summer sausage, slices of different cheeses, crackers, punch, several kinds of home baked cookies and home made candy out and the kids snack away most of the night and stay up and play games and watch movies until they can’t stay awake anymore, lol!

On Christmas morning, they are up at the crack of dawn. We pass out the presents and then complete mayhem begins as wrapping paper quickly covers the floor- I love it! We clean up the mess and then hang out together until I begin making dinner. We have a huge dinner in the afternoon and the kids stay until late in the night on Christmas day. It truly is our favorite day of the year as we celebrate family together and remember the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Who made us part of God’s family.

This Christmas will be bittersweet for our family this year because our 23 year old daughter’s fiance’ is being deployed mid-January for Iraq and he will not be home for Christmas next year because his tour is for one year. Even though they are waiting until his service is done to our country to get married, he has been and is such a part of our family and we will all miss him very much. I know that when his leave is up at the beginning of January that there are going to be lots of tears being shed in this family. Our prayers go with him as they do each day and each day for all of our service men and women. God bless our military men and women who are serving away from family and friends this Christmas day. I pray that the joy of the announcement of the birth of Christ those many years ago will fill their hearts with all the gladness and peace they can hold. This Christmas is certainly special for our family this year- we have to fit two Christmases into one day for our soldier, but I know as hard as it will be to see him leave for a whole year, it will be even more so a joyous day and celebration when he returns home.ReplyCancel

I am enjoying reading about everyone’s traditions. Mine is about food. I grew up in a family of 7 kids and Christmas day was always a flurry of toys and excitement and not much in the mood for eating. So my mother started cooking the big Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve and we would pick on the left-overs on Christmas day. My mother made enough goodies to feed 7 families, so being able to just eat dessert on Christmas day was heaven to me. Of course there was the open face turkey sandwiches, which are my favorite. I’ve carried this tradition to my own family. Happy Holidays to all of you.

    Hello Becca –

I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your talent. I subscribed to your blog and now look forward to receiving your email with your new creations.

We are very lucky to have a lot of family nearby, so we don’t need to travel very far to see everyone on holidays. My favorite tradition is the Polish Christmas Eve celebration called Wigilia (pronounced Vah-lee-a). We get together at my husband’s aunt’s house, where we start the meal by breaking the Oplatek (Wafer) ans wishing everyone good luck and Merry Christmas, etc. Everyone at the table breaks off a piece and eats it as a symbol of their unity with Christ. Then we have a great meal and sing Christmas songs.

    Merry Christmas!ReplyCancel

My favorite holiday tradition is decorating my tree. Every ornament is hand made, many by the loving hands of my grandmother and my mother who are with me now only in spirit. I think of the many hours that went into Grandma’s beaded ornaments. Mom’s creations were sometimes quite off the wall, but the outcome was always lovely. Her ornaments included scenes in L’eggs Eggs, a ribbon case from a long ago typewriter, and a melted down plastic tumbler with flowers and beads. I also like to use Mom’s crystal, Grandma’s silverware and my mother-in-law’s china for our holiday meal. It makes it seem like they’re all still with us.

Becca, thanks for your creativity. I recently discovered your blog and I’m really enjoying it.ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,

My son is now a young man planning to get married in March 2009, but as a young boy, he was always too anxious to wait until Christmas morning to open his gifts and would not go to bed. My family would get dressed for bed, pj’s, etc., stay up late Christmas eve and wait until 12:01 and we would all open our gifts and then try
to go to bed. Most times we would just sit around through Christmas day and make up the sleep on Christmas night!ReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,

Thanks for all your wonderful ideas you share with us each time. I absolutely drool over your work.

My favorite thing about our Christmas time together is on Christmas Eve when the children usually do a little “show” for us, we sing/play music and then someone reads the story of Jesus’ birth from Matthew. Then everybody gets to open one “Reindeer” present (not sure why we call it that really other than the reindeer “food” is put out on Christmas Eve). Of course, those presents are hand-picked by me and contain new “jammies” for everyone so I will have a chance of getting a “decent picture” on Christmas morning!!!

Thanks for the opportunity and have a Merry, Merry Christmas!ReplyCancel

Congratulations Becca! Couldn’t happen to a nicer person. Wonderful of you to share so generously. Personally I find blessings everytime I open your lovely blog. Such a gift you are to the stamping community.

Two traditions to share. My late husband Stephen and I had our first date at the Midnight Mass on New Years Eve. I used to tease him that if he had gotten his nerve up sooner we could have started out on Christmas Eve (can you imagine the sex in the city girls accepting a first date to a Mass – lol). Loving man that he was he said he wanted us to start out the New Year together but that we could make a tradition of Christmas Midnight Mass and if I wanted we could tell our children that was our first date! Well the kids never happened though we were together for 19 years before Stephen died and now 11 years after that I’ve almost convinced myself that was our first date (amazing how pliable the mind can be!). So Midnight Mass was our first tradition and the second…..

Since I married into a large Catholic family of varying income levels instead of giving presents not everyone can afford we draw names for stockings instead. Then on Christmas morning (occasionally Christmas Eve) we open them one by one and try to guess who filled who’s stocking. Everyone gets three guesses and lots of hilarity ensues. Amazingly there always seems to be an annual theme even though no one tells anyone else what they’ve been shopping for. One year it was candles, another funny socks, Pez dispensers and so on. Lots of goofy dollar store bits, handmade items and of course candy lots and lots of candy. Lately all the nieces and nephews, grandkids, etc. have gotten into the act and play Santa’s elf adding bits to everyone’s stocking thus making the guessing even funnier. Lots of love and lessons learned(humility when consistently guessing wrong comes to mind for this one) fill our hearts and give us a solid footing for depending on one another and bearing with one another throughout the rest of the year. The Christmas jokes tend to hang around for the year as well to give us lighter hearts (and the occasional score to settle next Christmas – lol).

Thanks for asking us to share. I won’t be making it home for Christmas this year but it did my heart good to remember and join in spirit all the love from past years and the love that will continue for years to come. – JeanReplyCancel

    Hi,
Going to the Christmas Eve service at our church is the wonderful opportunity that we seize every year.
Christ the Saviour has been born. Hope and love that we so desperately need.
    Merry Christmas everyone

    Hopefully, I’m not too late.

I love going to our candlelight service on Christmas Eve. It’s a quiet, simple service, but beautiful nevertheless.

    Hi Becca
You are a very talented artist and an angel with all of your wonderful human interactions with us all week after week!! Thank God for you. Blessed Be!
One of our cherished traditions is to make and share a awesome old “french canadian” recipe that has been passed down by paternal grandparents. We do this on Christmas Eve and everyone who is coming makes sure to be “home” in time to share this meal together. We love the food and sharing a meal together just like when we were kids. We always bring up some of our lasting memories of family members no longer with us in person and we bring them into our warm, and festive circle during this time. As I recall our years of doing this tradition it brings smiles and tears all at once. Thank you Becca for this experience.ReplyCancel

My very favorite time of years is Christmas and remembering reason for the season. We attend Church and are so blessed by the music and words from the Pastor telling us of the birth of Jesus. May all Americans feel as blessed as I do and thankful that we live in a free America where we can worship the Lord. This is my tradition spending time with family , friends and the Lord.ReplyCancel

A very merry Christmas to you, Becca! Been busy at work lately so haven’t been able to stop by as much. Your projects have been as beautiful as ever! We have a tradition that my mom started with her four children and I have continued with my four. I came to my marriage with a box of Christmas ornaments as a result, so now ever since my first child was born, we’ve always purchased a new ornament every year, and every child gets the same one. They all have a card in their ornament box, with the date and description of the ornament, and if we’ve collected the ornament on vacation, where we purchased the ornament. I’ve also noted other gifts of ornaments on their cards, since the children have received ornaments from others as well. They will leave home with ornaments to decorate their first trees, too. And they will have good memories as they decorate their Christmas trees and tell the stories to their future spouses. :)ReplyCancel

Happy Christmas to you and your family Becca, and thank you so much for sharing your amazing creations.

My favourite family Christmas tradition is my parents arriving at our house for breakfast and to share in the gift-giving on Christmas morning. My daughter was their first grandchild and she has brought us closer together.ReplyCancel

Our Christmas tradition is to get up early and visit our grandchildren so that we can breakfast together and watch them open their presents. The atmosphere is always happy with excitement and starts our day beautifully every year.

Well done in achieving a wonderful website that every card crafter looks forward to visiting! xxxReplyCancel
