How true is that sweet sentiment?   It’s one of the new releases this month from Flourishes called Timeless Quotes.   The Spellbinders Labels Four die is a beautiful way to showcase this sentiment.  I cut/emboss each frame by using two of the templates at together, secured to the magnetic spacer that came with my Wizard.  The piece left over from cutting the frame, the smaller Labels Four Die cut, was used for my stamping.  The frames and the Labels Four diecut are popped up – that gave me ample room to intertwine the ribbon through the back.  (Hint: No special ribbon tying involved here – the ribbon on the die cut is a piece of ribbon tied separately!  Easy!!).

Buttons topped with pearls are the final embellishment for the card.   I chuckled as I made this card because it was easier making myself use this Basic Grey – Sugared – especially after everyone weighed in here about their paper hoarding *grin*!

Card Recipe:
Stamps – Flourishes – Timeless Quotes
Paper – Basic Grey – Sugared, Bazzill
Ink:  Colorbox Merlot embossed with Clear Embossing Powder
Accessories:  Spellbinders Labels Four, Ribbon, Buttons, Pearls

It’s been a pleasure reading your comments this week – you all are quite the funny bunch!!

Oh Becca, As soon as today’s card popped up on my screen, my first thought was, “Oh My Goodness…..Becca has been CURED!” I recognize that paper as some that has “hoardability” written all over it. Keep up the good work!! Maybe we can “cure” this disease. I know,…….maybe we could start a “paper” ribbon campaign……..Well, I guess that wouldn’t work because to make our ribbons look good enough to wear, we would have to use our BasicGrey, Cosmo Cricket, Little Yellow Bicycle, K & Co., and on and on…….so you KNOW that is not going to happen!! Oh Well, lead us on, we can only do our best!! Linda S. in NEReplyCancel

Exquisite as always Becca. Thanks for letting us in on your ribbon “trick”. It may have lessened the mystique but it got me thinking maybe I could be less ribbon challenged than usual :D.

Had a composition thought. Did you try placing the half pearls on a diagonal in the corner to mimic the slant of the frame? Just curious if it didn’t look as good as it seems to in my mind when I think about that type of placement.

Any one have spring fever?  I sure do.  Today found me outside in the yard and inside doing a little bit of spring cleaning.  Once I got a break, I sat down to finish this card.  The card uses a scripture from the March Release of You are the Potter by Our Daily Bread Designs

I was tickled to try this Spellbinders Rose Blossom Edgeability template.  Once stenciled it made up into one of the easiest cards I’ve done lately.  We all need that right?  It also made for the perfect place for my sentiment.  For my sentiment both edges were cut with the Spellbinders Ric Rac Scallop Pierceability and on one edge both the embossing and piercing were done.  After tucking the sentiment panel up under the edge of the Edgeability and the card was topped with a header and bow.  The header has vertically scored lines that were done with a Scor-pal.  Ribbon, pearls and another rose cutout finish the card.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – You are the Potter
Paper:  The Paper Company
Ink:  Stampin Up Regal Rose, Rose Red, Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss
Accessories:  Spellbinders Rose Blossom Edgeability, Ric Rac Scallop Pierceability, Pearls, Ribbon, Scor-pal

Happy Spring to you!!  Be sure to spend some time outside breathing in the fresh air!!

Okay. . . there, I said it . . . I’m . . . a . . . paper hoarder.  {{Sigh . . . not that I don’t hoard stamps, inkpads, ribbon, fabric, books, and yarn . . . I’ll just focus on one today. }}  Looking back I can’t imagine how this came to be but I guess I can take comfort that I’m in good company.  Um . . . don’t deny it, some of you know exactly what I’m talking about – a walk through your studio would yield unopened packages of Basic Grey, Cosmo Cricket,  Little Yellow Bicycle and who knows what else.  For goodness sake, it’s only paper – right?   I’m known to hoard trendy paper past its expiration date – I mean it’s trendy one day then it’s discontinued the next and guess who still has it in her stash?  Does this sound familiar?  I love this Basic Grey – Sultry.  I seem to take more comfort knowing it’s in my stash that I do knowing it’s on a card that someone lingers over while browsing.  Ugh.  I’m trying to change but I think that the need to be thrifty often interferes.  I drove myself crazy making this card because I wavered back and forth between "should I" or "shouldn’t I" for so long.

Just to show you what I mean I’ll show you the behind the scenes look at this card.  Most of my cards are 6" x 6" and I love to use 140lb Watercolor paper for the base.  From Hobby Lobby I’ve found that I am able to purchase this Strathmore Watercolor paper that 6" x 18".  Once I score and cut a 6" square card base, I have a 6" piece left over for another card – efficiency bliss

Then I delved into my Basic Grey – Sultry stash.  Feeling quite liberated, I thought, I’ll actually use it today!  But then look what the thought of using two pieces of the green made me do?  I couldn’t cut into another sheet when so much of what I was using wouldn’t be seen.  It was layered just as you see here.  Is there help for me?  Now it’s not that way with all papers, just some and I sure don’t know why I scrimp and save every scrap!!  How about you?

This was a very quick card to put together.  I simply stamped the flower with watercolor crayons direct to the rubber and spritzed with water before stamping down.  That image was cut with the Spellbinders Labels Four die and popped up on a Spellbinders Labels One die – the entire panel is mounted on a piece of Basic Grey Sultry that is cut with the Spellbinders Ric Rac Scallop Pierceability.  Easy!!

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Penny Black, Wordworth – Sentiment
Paper:  Basic Grey – Sultry, 140 lb Strathmore Watercolor Paper
Ink:  Black Brilliance
Accessories:  Spellbinders Labels One, Spellbinders Labels Four, Spellbinders Ric Rac Scallop Pierceabilities, ribbon, bling, button, Conte Water Crayons

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your day is glorious!!

Becca, you had me giggling! I, too am a hoarder (hangs head in shame). But it makes me soo happy!! I have several Anna Griffin papers, particularly stripes, solids and florals (what’s left?). Yup- can hardly bring myself to use them, so there they sit all comfy and cozy. Whenever I have a special project to make (as in my Easter Gift/Name Bags for our family dinner) I then crack open the safe and swoon over my papers but only for a moment- right before using them with love.
I’m almost as bad with my beloved ink pads.
Your designs are soo inspiring and thank you once again for sharing them with us! I can hardly wait for my Sweet 16 Spellbinders winning sets to arrive, and I hope I can then create something as purdy as yours with my generous stash of goodies!ReplyCancel

Thanks for affirming that I am not the only one with a problem….although a good one I think. So many times I have been in just the same spot.

I have a layout and knowing there is pretty paper being hid I almost always will take a square out that wont show. Who knows how I will use it or if I will but when it is that pretty it should not be hid.

My DH use to think I was crazy but I tell him when he uses all the tools he has in the basement that are still in the boxes he can discuss my stash.

I confess…so am I!!! Two weeks ago we moved. Our friends stopped counting the boxes that said ‘craftroom’ when it topped at 50 with more to load. No, I have not unpacked all my ‘friends’. I truly miss them and can’t wait to welcome them to their new home. Yes, my son just commented today that I really have a PROBLEM! Will I quit…NO!!!
I love all your work and am happy to have the same Hoarder Disorder as you.
    Hugs, GinnyReplyCancel

  • PeggyMarch 22, 2009 - 10:06 pm

You are too much!! Maybe everyone should move every 10-15 years! I used to be like you (and probably everyone else…) I could have opened a store at my house with everything that I had hoarded over the years. Then the day came that I had to leave my home that I had spent 20 years in! When I moved I only took clothing and a few sentimental things as I was residing in a temporary place while I started a new job and essentially a new life. It was “cleansing time”! When my house sold, the old stuff that was “out of date” was donated and what craft supplies I brought with me were in 12 (did I say that many!!) boxes (large shipping boxes, I might add!) delivered by the movers. Another “cleansing” took place and my 12 boxes probably landed at four that I kept. Yes there are some papers, stamp sets, etc that I still think ” I will use someday” but I have learned how to clean out every few months and when I go to the store I am able to halfway restrain myself from buying something thinking that “oh I will use that someday”, because most times someday never comes.
Guess I got long winded there Becca!! Just wanted you to know that you are in the majority, not the minority!ReplyCancel

Boy did you hit home with your paper hoarder statement. I have some of the most elegant marbled paper I have hoarded for more than 15 years. The sheets were cut to 5 1/2″ or 6″ squares when I got it. It was so expensive and I have to this day only made one card with it for fear of not having it any longer. Unfortunately that isn’t the only paper I have hoarded.

    Great card by the way.ReplyCancel

  • Elaine AllenMarch 22, 2009 - 10:20 pm

    Morning Becca –

Obviously you are not only if the comments above are anything to go by. You at least use the paper, not me. I can honestly say that I have never made a card with patterned paper yet. Oh I have loads of patterned paper, but when I go to use it, I start to think, maybe that will look too busy, or it might be better as part of a collage. And oh my God, if its two different sides, then its, this side is better, oh but then the back side is wasted, so nothing gets used and everything ends up layered in solid colors! I keep telling myself that I must start using the patterned paper, especially after seeing what a wonderful job you have done with your card. I just love the colors and that pattern. Again another lovely job by you.

    Thanks

Just today I was agonizing over the placement of a template on some “speciality” Easter paper I had purchased at Archiver’s. I’m telling you…..using that double sided paper is sheer agony, isn’t it?? I am glad you did! I was just thinking today “what a waste of paper” when I saw Dawn tape down her layers, which is normal and standard, in her video. I think it is great that you cut out the middle of the green paper to use on another project. Well done.ReplyCancel

Becca, Today’s card is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I have to say, YOU ARE NOT ALONE in hoarding paper. I’ve got paper that I’ve had for 20 years (yes, that long). I won’t use it because I can’t find it anymore and MIGHT need it. Some of it is just too pretty, too nice, even though I know the recipient would enjoy the card, would they “understand” the paper. And of course, as you said, it’s not just paper. I could open my own paper store, glitter store, sticker store, and of course stamp store…etc…A friend who is on hold to help me move was telling another friend that she recruited that when she helped her move her that was not even an inch of what was to come once we hit my craft room. She couldn’t believe it, wait til she sees…ReplyCancel

good for you for actually USING the paper. sometimes i can NOT cut into it. especially if it’s the last one……i am not alone. that is comforting.

and i can recognize paper while viewing others cards…..and i have two store racks (gotten from a LSS going bust) full. and i still am tempted to get more….an alarm should sound when i touch paper in the store. buying online avoids the alarm so i have been going to PTI alot recently and i must say their stuff is yummy. now i will have to get the watercolor paper from HL that you mention here. drat

of course, same feelings go for stamps…..but at least they dont “go away”.ReplyCancel

I don’t mind using my 6 x 6 pads of paper but I have a huge box full of my 12 x 12 which I am loath to cut into…it’s too bug for cutting, right!
I too adore Basic Grey Sultry and all BG paper really and Kay & Co. We are a lost cause I think.
If anyone knows an anidote please let me know before I become lost forever under a huge pile of 12 x 12 nevermore to see the light of day.

    Becca,

I too am/was a paper hoarder but in the last year
I have been cured. It took moving to another state and having to go through my scrap-room that converted me. I donated a ton of stuff and then there were a lot of papers that were not necessarily the latest in trends but i still really liked it, that’s when I decided 25-50-100 years from now when my albums would be passed down to future generations it would all be out of date anyway I was using what I had!!! I still buy some paper occasionally but not like I used too and if something new comes in the old goes out!

Hate to say it Becca, but you are just a “novice” LOL I’m 73 and been a paper hoarder my entire life. Like most of us I have trouble “parting” with papers. I love to look at them and hold them but when I took a card class 2 yrs. ago I realized that it was time to start using some of the papers. It has been fun going through stashes of papers that I’ve moved the 4 times over the years and come up with ideas for their use.(some of these are from HS days—1950’s) I know my girls will only toss them so I’d rather use them in my cards than see them lost forever in the dump. You’re lucky if paper is all your hoard—I hoard stuff for beading, decorative painting, embroidery, etc. etc. etc. :O)

I absolutly don’t want to use it. It’s so beautiful but doing absolutly no good just sitting there. Looking at your card has got my mind spinning and hopefully will get me off my duff and use some of that wonderful paper. Keep up the good work Becaa, its an inspiration to all of us. Blessings, BeckyReplyCancel

LOL. Oh, Becca! I love the “sisterhood” of stampers!

I, too, am a paper hoarder. It’s in storage boxes in three closets, under the bed, in a cabinet, in file boxes, and stacked on my desk. And what am I going to do on the first day of Spring Break??? I’m heading to Hobby Lobby for the 1/2 price sale on – you got it – PAPER!!

Isn’t life just grand????? I’m so happy to be a stamper!!

Happy day to you and yours!

I’m actually relieved to know that I am not the only hoarder. I buy tons of beautiful papers, but then I have such a hard time running them through the Expression or cutting with a spellbinders die. I save just about every scrap. I have them sorted into sizes. Long strips that come off the edge get punched with Martha Stewart dies so they will be ready for a project. Smaller scraps get put into a box for when I need a circle or some other small punched object. I even keep the small dots that come out of the paper punches in medicine jars for shaker cards. It’s just so hard to let go of fragments from these gorgeous papers. I’m glad that I’m not the only one!! :)ReplyCancel

Haha, you are not alone!!! The best part is, I sat yesterday with that same green paper, wondering if I would ever find green paper again??? To use or not to use??? Then gave up half way ‘cos I did not like the card? It must be a disease. I love your blog Becca

I am a paper hoarder for sure! I sometimes don’t even remember what’s all in my stash… still looking for the best way to store it… i.e…. by color or Mfr, etc.
And I will do this trick every now and then. I love it!ReplyCancel

Becca, It is good to be in like company!!! Since you seem to be saner that me, I will consider it consolation to continue in my paper hoarding too! When I see a Michael’s or Hobby Lobby ad for half price paper, I can’t help myself. Ha, Ha. And then I have to justify more paper holders to keep my stash since the other holders are full and brimming over!ReplyCancel

I keep every little bit of paper. I am an addict! Another thing that fuels my addiction: I work for a printing company and I’m around paper that gets thrown away every day. There is this one paper that we use to print pocket folders. It comes 26″ x 40″, but our press cannot run that large size. It gets cut in half to 26″ x 20″. Still a problem size. So they cut 7″ of the 26″ size and there is a nice 20″ x 7″ strip left. It is 110# white laid stock. How can anyone throw this away??? Well, the first time I realized they were throwing it away, I begged for it. All 2000 sheets of it. It sat in the back of my car for ages until we went out of town and needed the space. I still have tons of it, and use it for bases for my cards all the time, but I’m sure I’ll never use all of it unless I give it away. A friend and I made a pact (actually I drug her kicking & screaming) to only have whole sheets of paper left by the end of the year. We could give them away or use them or throw them away. It didn’t matter, they just had to be gone. That night I sat down and made 15 cards out of some beautiful paper that I’d held on to for months because it was too pretty to throw away! I feel your pain! Thanks for sharing!ReplyCancel

    Hey, Becca!
It’s so funny to hear people admit they hoard, too! I usually buy assorted items, but then have the hardest time parting with any of it! Buttons, ribbons, paper…I scrimp and save every little piece and trim any parts that don’t show, if possible!

I’m trying to ease up a bit, especially since we will be moving this summer – what better time to start a little purging! I will be donating what I don’t use to a local service project – Cards for a Cause.

I’m learning how to use watercolor crayons, so your card is just what I needed! As always…beautiful!!!

    Happy stamping!

great card. you’ve been peeking in my window. LOL. i also hoard paper.

looking at paper at my LSS is like shopping at Costco/Sam’s Club. better buy some now because it won’t be there next month. there are times i want to be in my craft room but not make a card. so i start reorganizing. i look at some of the paper i haven’t used and wonder “what was i thinking”. some of it is plain, weird or just not me.

once a year i take paper, embellies, etc. to my girls scrap weekend and put it out on the table with a help yourself sign. it’s amazing what other people can do with my rejects.ReplyCancel

Why do we think that we must be the only person who hoards…..paper, ribbons, etc. I guess I’m really glad that I am not the only one with this sickness…….I have two shoe boxes just for Basic Grey 6×6 pads and another one for miscellaneous. My husband has no clue what is in my craft room and I’m not going to enlighten him….I HAVE stopped buying for the foreseeable future. I need to get it all organized into some usable semblance of order before I buy one more thing……and as we have a major flooring project going on just now, my guess is that I will try to go to CHA Spring 2011. ;)ReplyCancel

*LOL* I’m guilty too. Aren’t we all? It seems that it’s sometimes more fun buying the paper and stamping stuff than using it. It’s too hard to cut into a new sheet of paper! And then it’s a real rush when you finally use some nice paper and make a beautiful card. What a great hobby we have. :D

    Becca,

You are not alone, I think all truly obsessed paper crafters hoard stuff. Lets see where shall I start….I hoard paper, ribbon, buttons, prima flowers, brads, many other misc. embellishments, etc. I’m sure there’s more, but you get the point.

Absolutely gorgeous card. I love how you used the watercolor crayons on the stamp and spritz before stamping, that flower stamp is perfect for that method. Love that DSP too; it is hard to go wrong with Basic Grey these days.

Hey from Nova Scotia (cold and snowing as I speak)
I am fairly new to this, but I am getting the swing of the hoarding thing.
I have a thing for paper and ribbon. I love them.
I could just sit and look at them all day. They have such wonderfully delicious colours and designs, I think I have to have them all, so I buy them. Today I left my husband in the car while I went to paper store to pick up a few sheets for my scrapbooking pages of our trip to the Domican. Needless to say I was there so long he fell asleep and I came out with more than I went for. Guess I’m not alone.
Love the most recent card by the way. Gorgeous as usual!!!!

Hi Becca, another beautiful card from you.
I laughed at what you’ve written today, it seems it does’nt matter where a papercrafter lives we all seem to have been bitten with the same hoarding bug. I too have special papers that I am loathe to use, and periodically take them out to look at, then put them away again unused. Don’t know what I’m saving them for, just feel they are too nice to use.

Good evening, Becca. I think, in the light of all the comments that have gone before, it is a proven fact that crafters are hoarders. I, too, love my paper and in the past I have bought 2 sheets of the same paper so that I can use one and keep the other for stroking lovingly and returning to the stash. I also have a penchant for stamps even though I am not a stamper. I see a stamp and I must have it, thinking “I really must try this stamping lark”. Then it goes in to my box and never sees the light of day. I’m coming down with stamps. Then, of course, there’s ribbon….. I think I’ll stop :)

Your card today is beautiful :)ReplyCancel

It’s so good to hear that I am not alone! Paper Hoarding is a sickness. I rather pleasant sickness I might add. We really do need to start a support group. Who could we possibly tell all these secrets to who would not think we are a little “off”? Just like this weekend, I accidently went to JoAnn’s and they happen to have a great sale on paper. I felt it was my duty to help stimulate the economy, but leaving some of my “green” paper in exchange for a variety of their paper.

    I need help!

Love your work. Again, it’s an inspiration.ReplyCancel

Becca, I never knew that there are so many paper hoarders until I started reading the card blogs (June 2008). As long as I can remember, I have had an obsession with paper and pens. Starting in second grade, we had to use fountain pens. What do fountain pens use????? INK!!! I always “collected” expensive stationary and pretty journals, not that I used them. I just love paper. I also have several fountain pens, Koh-I-Noor technical pens, etc. etc. At work I use my own pens and pencils, not what the company provides. My skin would crawl if I had to use one of those 20 cent Big pens. The same goes for DP. I even have saved 1/2 inch strips of striped DP, because I thought I may use it. Even I roll my eyes, when I catch myself doing it. It is a weird obsession but obviously widespread. I wonder if there is a medical term for it….lololol – paginaphobia….lololol.

I almost forgot! Another stunning card, Becca. I also like watercolor paintings.ReplyCancel

You are so sweet and funny! ;) I have “out dated” paper too…but I consider them treasures. I don’t worry about trends – I use what I like. The only problem with this is when people like the card [or scrapbook page] they ask me where did I get the paper from. LOL. Either it’s out of stock or I can’t remember!!! Paper to people like us – is like fabric to quilters! Enjoy your paper because it never goes out of style. -Con.ReplyCancel

Great card as always. I have two pads of Sultry. Basic Grey is my weakness! At least I have switched from 12×12 sets to 6×6 pads. But yeah, I have some of everything back to gypsy. Sad. I keep saying no more. But then the colors of Marakech (sp?) are so different. Gotta have a strong blue, they haven’t done a strong blue before… and it is combined with pretty orange/yellow shades. And then porcelain… such soft colors — they truly will work so well with so much. I wonder if there is a 12 step program!ReplyCancel
