I’ll seem a little bit chatty to you all today but this has been on my mind — has anyone heard that Michigan commercial that starts out 25,000 mornings?   Every time that commercial comes on TV, I stop and listen to it – it takes my breath away.   When you boil it down, 25,000 morning is what you get if you live to be 68 – yes, the first time I heard it I had my calculator out within minutes.  25,000 – is that really it?  It sure doesn’t sound like a lot does it?   I fell back in my chair after I calculated the years and I thought wow, how do we waste a moment worrying about what other people think?  How do we waste a moment of it not telling our families how much we love them?  How do we waste a moment delivering judgment instead of exercising understanding, keeping score instead of letting it go, saying no instead of saying yes?  My path over the last two years has been one of discovery and a recommitment to my faith.  I’ve diligently carved out and left behind some of the pettiness and drama that threatened to whittle away at my health and life.  I’ve met the most wonderful, positive, generous and thoughtful people through blogging.  And yes, when you put it this way – 25,000 mornings – it makes me appreciate each and every one.  How about you?  Chime in here and let me know I’m not alone in my thinking.

On to my card today – I’m back to share one of the April releases from Our Daily Bread Designs –   1 Corinthians.  I chose one of my favorite Spellbinders dies, Spellbinders Curved Rectangles, to highlight this entire verse which is a card sized stamp.  For the top valance I used two pierceabilites – Fancy Scallop and Ric Rac Scallop for the edge treatment and stacked the Spellbinders Classic Lace Border on top.  Most panels are smudged with Antique Linen Distress Ink and the bottom panel was smudged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.   Ribbon and pearls finish the card.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs – 1 Corinthians
Paper:  K & Co. , The Paper Company – Blonde Columns
Ink:  Adirondack – Stream, Distress Ink – Antique Linen, Distress Ink – Vintage Photo
Accessories:  Spellbinders Curved Rectangles, Spellbinders Fancy Scallop, Spellbinders Ric Rac Scallop, Spellbinders Classic Lace Border, Ribbon, Pearls

Blessings to you my friends as you get to spend another of those glorious 25,000 mornings.

Good morning to you Becca. Your card is gorgeous, as always. I loved your comment on 25,000 mornings. It is very interesting and though provoking. We do need to let go of a lot of things and remember all the good things and the many blessings our Lord gives us daily. Thank you for sharing and have a blessed day.ReplyCancel

I agree Becca, but unfortunately it was not till the last couple years of my life that I have let go and let God. (I’m 48) I felt all those things you mentioned were whittling away at my health. And since I have started with this new attitude it has resulted in a stronger faith in God and an appreciation of each and every morning. May God continue to bless you on your journey.ReplyCancel

Happy Friday Becca and good morning to you. WOW. That is a powerful observation about 25, 000 mornings and most certainly gives one pause for thought and the goal to make every morning count. Thank you for sharing that.

Also thank you for this gorgeous card. Lovely! I really treasure my morning trips to you blog and being inspired by your work and you thoughts as well.ReplyCancel

well, I’ve used my 25,000 + mornings (I’m 73)Some I’ve wasted and some I’ve used wisely. THe older I get, hopefully the more wisely. :O) I figure I’m where the saying says I should be—–“you are where God wants you to be at this time of your life”. That’s what keeps me going and gives me inspiration for my crafts and my life.

Becca, I too stopped and thought about this commercial the first time I heard it….25,000..is that all I get? Doesn’t seem like much and yet it is a whole lifetime….makes you realize that you really don’t want to waste a minute!! Each day we need to stop and listen to the birds and smell the flowers and then jump in and shout to the world how great God is!!ReplyCancel

I’m there with you. No time to waste in pettiness, depression and negativity. Some of us will not even be given 25,000 mornings. My wonderful SIL did not see 19,000, my nephew only was given a little over 3,000. The little girl in town that was killed yesterday had just over a 1,000 – and some little lives don’t even get a first morning because it is taken before they get chance to draw their first breath. Let’s be thankful that we were given another day to draw breath – and make the most of it.ReplyCancel

I have been trying my best to really work on removing the negative influences in my life so that my 25,000+ mornings are more postitive to me, my family and those around me. I would love to hear this commercial. And I hope to make it to 25,000 mornings!

I use Corinthians each year in some way on our anniversary card. This year was the best one yet. I used your corner punch technique as a frame around the verse. (Thanks for sharing that)

I was diagnosed the 23rd of last month with cancer, and has my outlook on life changed. My faith has always been an important part of my life, but I immediately put the petty things behind me (well, lots of them, I am working on it)

Thanks for sharing your inspirational cards and words each day. I look forward to them.ReplyCancel

TRUE…SOOO TRUE! Especially today, with the economy the way it is and so many horrible happenings all over the world, people have come to realize and appreciate how precious their families are and how important it is not to lose faith in God. Without Him, we are doomed! But with Him by my side, I can wake up with a peaceful heart and a joyful soul. What a beautiful day this makes! God bless you and yours~

You said it so eloquently! It is so true how much time we waste on things that really don’t matter. One of my favourite things to do when I feel overwhelmed is to stand outside at night, look up at the stars and then I can feel how very small I am and how insignificant my problems are compared to most in the world. This is very humbling and makes it much easier to put things into perspective and get on with life.

    Dear Becca

Your card is so very very beautiful…..

……may I write here a message for Melissa B Mitchell and her situation with cancer. Recent studies have found that almost all cancer is caused by unresolved emotional traumas and that healing the causal traumas represents releasing the root of this sickness and in an experiment of 40 000 people the cancer went back by itself. Here I really would like to mention that there is a huge gift from God out there which is Dr. Bradley Nelson who with God’s inspiration founded a very simple technique with which the emotional traumas can be discovered and also released. Dr. Nelson’s web-site is: http://www.drbradleynelson.com. Dr. Nelson wrote a book called ‘The Emotioncode’ where he explains in a very simple and easy to understand way, all the dynamics and simple release of such, as he calls it ‘trapped emotions’.

    Hi Becca –

Your card is beautiful, and what a lovely message you have placed on it. I’ve never seen the commercial you mention, but you are right 25,000 does not seem like a lot when you say it that way. We should not waste any one of those mornings, we should make sure that those we love and care about, know how we feel. Live your lives so you can look back and not say “I wish I had done this or that”, but live your lives with no intent to deliberately harm others, to be the best “You” that you can be.
I did the math and I realize that my grandmother has had 36,865 mornings, she is 101 years young! I’ve only had 19,710, hope there are a lot more for me and for all of you out there!

I appreciate the fine folks I have met in virtual ‘blog’ land and it is so uplifting to see that there are strangers who always want to help or be a shoulder to lean on…it helps dispel the negativity in the news, in the workplace, and in the neighborhood. And as I read everyone’s comments about the 25,000 mornings, it nudged me to think the other end of the spectrum… the 25,000 nights! And with that thought comes a reminder to make sure you say good night to your loved ones and tuck in a ‘thank-you’ and ‘I love you’… just in case someone doesn’t make it to the next 25,001st morning!

Thanks Becca for not only challenging us to create, but to think! Sincerely, BeverlyReplyCancel

    Hi Becca,
Another beautiful card!! I agree with you. Life is short, and it’s important to spend time expressing our love to others -our family, friends, and strangers. I’ve been through some rough times recently, but I had a lot of people praying for me, and I’m now at a much better place. Prayer is so important to get you through the rough times. It doesn’t always get better overnight, but I also think sometimes we have to go through trials to make our faith stronger. When you look at some of the things going on in the world today it really does make you realize life is too short to focus on the negative, and that faith in Jesus Christ is more important than ever!! And with the many popular religious leaders steering many people in the wrong direction it’s important to remember John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” All strength comes from God, and not from within ourselves.
Blessings to all, and stay strong in these challenging times we are in. It is possible to find peace and love even in the middle of crisis….and even more important to share that with others.ReplyCancel

    Becca

In Canada we have not heard that commercial, but sure makes you pause and think. My partner recently had a quadruple bypass and valve replacement, and my girlfriend is struggling with bone marrow cancer. These events make you realize how fragile life really is, and yes we do not do our days justice. My faith keeps me strong when I am weak, and helps me to realize what is really important. Your cards continue to be an inspiration.

Thanks for sharing that. It’s so often we let things bog us down…life…work…silly things…and forget what’s important…25,000 mornings really puts it into perspective…live life to the fullest.

25,000 mornings at 68…that is kind of sad. That does not seem like very many. I try really hard to count my blessings and to be thankful everyday, but somehow, that number just kind of takes your breath away and puts in all into perspective.
I hope you are well my friend…I pray for you and your family every night!
Thank you for all of your inspiration you give me

i loved this. and yes, that commercial rocked me too. made me realize that i need to appreciate everything in my life, because there is a limit. there is an end. i’m now a morning person! :)ReplyCancel

  • NickiJune 12, 2009 - 6:30 pm

Well, when I heard that commercial, I did the math too. And I figured out that 25,000 mornings take 68.4 years. Which means my last morning in July 31 of this year……..coming soon…..too soon.

I did write the following letter to to the State of Michigan –

    “Dear State Of Michigan,
My 25,000 mornings will be up on July 31. I will be only 68.4 years old,
and I have a lot of plans, which may or may not include a trip to
Michigan. 25,000 may seem like a sweet long number to some of you,
but to me it means there aren’t that many leftt…
I want to keep on working, keep on traveling , and see my first grandchild in September. So please up the ante to 35,000 mornings- that will give us 95 years to get to Michigan -thanks for listening.”

They did answer back. And I think it may be why the commercial didn’t last that long.

Enjoy your mornings – every day!

I’m a little bit late on this, but still in time to chat about it.  Today was the opening of the April Fan Club at www.splitcoaststampers.com.  I’m on the design team for a six month stint so each month I float out a sneak peek and hope you’ll come over and view the entire gallery.   Here’s my sneak peek for April.

If you are new to my blog and not familiar with Splitcoaststampers or the Dirty Dozen please check it out HERE.  Splitcoaststampers is a large stamping community that harbors a wealth of information.  The Dirty Dozen is a set of 12 designers who produce elite projects that are shown in a special gallery exclusively available to The Fan Club.  On the 15th of each month a new gallery is revealed to those who have a membership in the Fan Club.  So the new gallery opened at 12:01am on April 15th.

There is a twist this month!!  This month, each designer will be giving away one of their creations.  To get in the running all you’ll need to do is go through the gallery and leave comments on the items you might like to win.  The designer has not published which item will be given away so it behooves you to weigh in on each one.  In two weeks, a comment number will be picked with the aid of Random.org and the winner will be alerted by email.

So if you are a Fan Club member, or if you sign up to be a Fan Club member, be sure to stop by  the Fan Club Gallery and see the items created this month.  This is the best gallery to date and the ideas and talented submissions were out of this world!!  Who know, maybe you’ll be the lucky winner of one of the fab items on display!

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC11)!  Lucky me, I’m the challenge hostess this week!  My challenge to everyone is to use paper piercing.  Paper piercing is the art of piercing holes through the cardstock for decoration.  Paper piercing has evolved so much in the past couple of years with the invention of some highly detailed piercing templates.  There are all kinds of piercing ideas to use.  Whether it is just a pierced frame or border, some pierced corner accents, a few pierced dots here and there, or you go out out with ornate piercing template patterns, we would love to see what you create.

This was my first opportunity to use the new Flourishes background – Vintage Wallpaper.  I stamped it using two pigment inks that I dabbed on the card with Dew Drops sized ink pads – they worked perfectly.  The sentiment I used is from the Flourishes Sweet Peas set.  On my card, I used an Ornare template to pierce a circle and then cut the circle out with Spellbinders Standard Circle Small and hollowed out the center with a smaller circle.  I mounted the sentiment with the Spellbinders Tags 5 set and covered the tag hole with a pearl.

Card Recipe:
Stamps:  Flourishes Vintage Wallpaper, Flourishes Sweet Peas
Paper:  Bazzill, Strathmore 140lb Bristol Paper
Ink:  Veramagic Spanish Olive, Versamagic PInk Petunia
Accessories:  Spellbinders Standard Circle Small, Spellbinders Tags 5, Ornare, Pearls Ribbon

Be sure to visit the other Friends of Flourishes to see how they put piercing to the test!
