APG May 2019 Die of the Month – Nostalgic Serenade Card Frame

What?  It’s already a new month!!  Hello there lovely friends, as you know I kick off each month with a Die of the Month.  The Nostalgic Serenade Card Frame has been designed for quite some time, but it wasn’t until I really got to sit down and play with it that I fell totally and utterly in love.  I’m only showing you a thing or two that can be made with the card but on May 12th the Creative Team and I will be showing our stuff and since it is Mother’s Day in the US, some of us will be throwing a shout out to Mom!

Wait until you scroll down and see the couple of things I did make for this post.  It doesn’t even come close to completing what the die can do so let me get into the inspiration.

Inspiration for Nostalgic Serenade

The design of this die is slightly intricate and nostalgic.  I research timeless patterns to inspire my dies and this one is just as at home in today as it was 100 years ago.  If you love ensemble making, then the nested frame setup of this die makes it great for shaped cards, folding and cutting it up.   Today in the video I’m sharing how to make a gift card set – all made with this die:

One of my secrets is that I love to get little note card ensembles as a gift.  Little did they know how easy it is to get hooked on using pretty little card for notes.  It’s so easy to just reach for the little cards that once they were gone, they are missed. It’s even that way with me, when sending a little note, why not send it on a beautiful die cut.    The little notes for this ensemble are the die cut folded in half.  They make a perfect mini card.

This is the card you get from simply cutting the die.  You’ll get a choice of aperture or not aperture but otherwise, you’all always get this stunning frame and the size of the frame is: 4-3/4″ wide by 6-3/4″ tall with lots of labeling and alternate framing options.

Just to make things a little bit different I tucked two corners into the frame for visual interest :-)

Anything that is intricate begs to be made into a shaped card!  I used my Hinged Technique to do this and in the end this card looks great from the back and the front because I glue templates on the inside so that the die cuts are back to back.  Yes, I’m a sewer and that’s exactly what you do when sewing to finish your garment.  I like that idea on cards too, plus it makes this card super sturdy!!

For this one I stacked up the multisized labels in the center instead of using an aperture.  I love that the parts and pieces from this can be used on so many of your other cards!

That’s my shares for you with the May 2019 Die of the Month!  Pop over to the Spellbinders Blog to ——>THIS POST <——– to have a look at many more pictures of the Nostalgic Serenade Card Frame.

If you are already a member or have purchased any of the Die of the Month Dies, I hope you’ll leave a review of the die on the Club Page.  If you like the direction I’m going with these dies, please leave a comment on the Spellbinders Blog Post so that I can continue to create in the same vein.  As always, if you have a comment on how these large dies work for you, please leave it – I read all of these and we discuss them as I plan additional designs.

    Becca,
Just another month in paradise! With another winner! I usually get my die about the 10th of the month. I have been busy as I am doing a Card Swap at Scrapbook Expo in Orlando and have to make 21 all alike cards for the swap. Also have to make one for a friend from UK who I met there 2 years ago and is not going to be coming this year as she is not too well. So a bunch of us are all making her a card and a little package of “crafting items” to send to her. I am about half done with the 21 so by the time my die gets here, I will be ready to play!!
    Hugs to you my friend,
    Ann RobbinsReplyCancel

Definitely reminiscent of a by gone era. Lovely shape and flowing design. Each month’s design surpasses the previous one and delights the visual senses. Thank you for the thought and love you put into these dies. Really love the shaped cards! Looking forward to see what the team makes!!ReplyCancel

Unfortunately I am not making any cards today. Nor have I been able to be in my craft room for over a week now. I’m away from all my craft things and craft making supplies. I think I am going through withdrawal not being able to work on my cards. I have this cardmaking habit and I know it. The designs you made with this die set are gorgeous. I can hardly wait to get back home to find my die of the month waiting on me to use it. Loving this box and lacy little note cards. Thanks ever so much for the instructional video. I will need it when I make my little box and cards.ReplyCancel

Becca, this set is stunning. I’m looking forward to getting it in the mail. I totally love the direction you take when you not only design your line of products, but the examples you and your team crank out each and every month. High Five! Sending lots of hugs, Diana
PS/ I hope you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with issues from Irma. You are in my prayers.ReplyCancel

Becca, I love your work and the dies that you have designed. I have but one question of you; why do you require us to be a member of a club to be able to buy all of your dies? I cannot afford the fee as well as the cost of the die! This is not the way our Lord and Saviour works! Is it that Spellbinders do not pay you enough?ReplyCancel

    • Becca FeekenMay 3, 2019 - 3:54 am

Oh Wendy, thank you for your kind words. Just a clarification – I’m a licensed designer and am not actually employed by Spellbinders. Spellbinders spends their money to manufacture the designs I produce. Since they foot the bill, they get to decide how to much to charge, when they release the dies and how they release the dies. It’s a privilege to have someone to take care of the manufacturing so I’m generally okay with their rules.

Now, having said that, the Die of the Month Club is a blessing to those on a budget. You can join for one month and quit the next. It’s the easiest way I know of to get the dies you want, predictably they come each month. You simply decide if you are in for the month or not. If any of these dies were in a collection I release it would be slightly more expensive than what they are selling it for in the club because US shipping is included :-)

If you are located internationally I believe they are working on some shipping options. Honestly, though, I don’t have any say over that. If you are international and it puts the dies out of your reach, I encourage you to message Spellbinders directly. In the interim please know that you are a blessing to me here and I’m thankful that you share your time and kind words :-)ReplyCancel

First let me say how clever your use of this die is, I especially like the way you turned it into a little “box”. You are so talented.
As for Wendy’s comment above, don’t take it to heart. There are all kinds of people in this world . Those that lift others up and those that tear others apart but it is such a shame she chose you to criticize. You are one of the few people in this world that I can truly see God’s light shine in all you do. I am sure our Lord and Savior , Jesus, is very very pleased in your behavior and maybe just maybe Wendy needs to stop criticizing others and examine herself first. People need to check out the facts before they go complaining .
    Love you my friend…. God bless…Denice with a “c”ReplyCancel

Good morning Wendy, When I read your comment to Becca it really saddened me. You obviously do not know Becca very well because if you did you would know how very much she tries to live her life for Christ and act in a way to make Him proud.

Becca is not in charge of how Spellbinders prices the dies or the way they chose to do things. You do not have to be a member of a club to buy her dies. They are available at most crafting stores and crafting shows. Getting into scrapbooking / cardmaking is an expensive hobby … it is your choice to pursue it or not. Becca is trying her best to make a living in a way that pleases God. She is kind and generous and loving and I believe God would be very pleased in most all she does.
I hope I am not sounding harsh but it is always better to be aware of the facts before you go criticizing or complaining others . Remember hurting the feelings of God’s children’s is not the way of our Lord and Savior.
With kindest regards, Denice with a “c”ReplyCancel
